I disabled Google's calculator core app back when I was on the Nexus 5. I ditched it for Xltyhe Calculator. Aesthetically, it's the same as Google's calculator, but with more features and capabilities.
Check out this one, it's like stock but with history (and maybe more functions?). It also runs better than Google's on my phone.
The calculator app by Xlythe has the same design as the Google one, but more features. It had a calculator for android wear for quite some time as well.
I've been using this open-source calculator, and it's a pretty good extension of the basic one; it's also also available on Google Play.
I can take it or leave it. Sometimes it improves usability, sometimes the animations are pleasing.
But I'm finding some apps that used to be Holo (dark) themed are now using garish colors or light gray text on a white background. And I hate that.
Example: Xlythe's Calculator.
A bright pale aquamarine background for the function panel is not pleasant or easy to use. It's telling that the developer kept the Holo version around on the Play Store.
I'm more forgiving when apps let you choose your own primary and accent color.
Textra and Solid Explorer are great examples of Material design.
Xlythe calculator. Icon pack is just set to round icons I think. It's really nice, and has a floating calculator which you can launch from notification quick tiles. It's really useful

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android2.calculator3 this one is basically a more advanced version of the stock calculator with the feature you want. You can launch the chat head through a widget.
I've still found nothing better than my current calculator app. Its basically a clone of the stock app but with more advanced functions and a graph
Someone mentioned it below. Xltyhe Calculator.
Okay. It's weird, and I'm not too sure.
My sister's OnePlus One had it. I got jealous and desperate and wanted it as well.
So, I started downloading calculator apps and kept checking my widgets menu to see if I got that widget or not. I did it like I was on coke or something.
Turns out you have to restart your phone (perhaps only your launcher?) for the widgets to show.
So, after a restart, I had tons a couple of widgets, and many more calculator apps.
I set the widget you see there, and started uninstalling apps, then got bored or whatever.
Anyway, I still have a few calculator apps and that widget.
So, maybe its:
Or CALCU™ Stylish Calculator Free
Mostly, it is CyanogenMod.
That reminds me, I gotta delete myself some calculator apps.
:)
+1. I use Google-built apps (since those come stock on a Nexus) and first-party apps for 3rd party services (namely Facebook). I prefer support and simplicity.
only exception is Calculator, where I use Xlythe's for the hex/binary number formats
Try this cyanogenmod calculator! It has everything fromHistory, digit grouping, themes, floating widget. And looks exactly like Google calculator

I use the Pujie Black watch face. It's extremely customizable, it's got cool animations, and it lets you configure a drawer of 6 watch and phone actions that you can show by tapping a specified part of the watch face, plus like 6 more custom buttons you place on the watch face.
I also recommend the Bits watch face. It's not as customizable, but it can display a lot more information, and it has even cooler animations.
If you use the Google Clock app from the Play Store on your phone, you get extra functionality in the Alarm app on the watch.
If you use the Google Messenger app for SMS on your phone, you'll get a Wear app for it when your watch gets Marshmallow.
If you have Android Device Manager installed (which you should), you'll get a built-in Find my Phone app on the watch.
A calculator app on the watch is useful, I use this one.
Strange when I try to open the store page for Calculator by Xlythe I get this error. I had it installed before I factory reset my phone and now I can't download it again.
That is utterly bizarre, you're right. I had not noticed, as I never use it, but yep.. wth? I used to use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android2.calculator3&rdid=com.android2.calculator3 and reinstalling it now.
This calculator app has a floating version. You'll need to add the floating shortcut widget to your homescreen first but after that the calculator can be minimised into a bubble like FB chatheads
The phone requires Marshmallow, perhaps the Watch does as well, don't know. Now, why Google made it require M is beyond me.... I would suspect it was intentional, although it's pretty easy to set the minimum SDK to the wrong value. I'd have to guess there's something in M that they needed, even though it's really just a calculator.
I installed another one built off AOSP that has the Wear components and it works fine. I am not the dev/etc, just a user. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android2.calculator3
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android2.calculator3
This app looks & works exactly like the Google Calculator, but has a lot of added functionality like Hex, function plotting etc.
The cyanogenmod calculator is a better fork from the stock one IMO. Actually has a usable history.

Random question but are you the guy who made my favorite calculator app?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android2.calculator3
The Cyanogen calculator is pretty good. Link
Pujie Black, Fit, Google Authenticator, a calculator (I use this one), Talon for Twitter.
/uj its the actual material calculator app with everything like ripples and stuff. Love it!
Edit: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android2.calculator3
It's available in the play store now here.
I'd prefer having a floating calculator open like the one from https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android2.calculator3
I prefer aot Xlythe's calculator: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android2.calculator3
It has the same design as Google's one but has a ton of added functionality.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android2.calculator3
It's very similar to the stock calculator, but with more advanced functions as well as history.
The calculator from Cyanogenmod
Needs no permissions.
I've been fairly happy with this one for a while now.
It's not Google's but looks exactly the same
my feedback would be that while I like it, I feel like the biggest challenge you guys have to face is that a a keyboard with lines stops feeling truely material, but doesn't make for a good calculator. personally, I prefer https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android2.calculator3 and https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.solovyev.android.calculator but I truly would love to see your app continue to grow. other feedback: I would look int ways other than lines or at least other than boxes in order to delineate keys, the shadows look a bit exaggerated, I would tone them down a notch as you already mentioned in response to another person. if you want to make it know that there is a side menu, you could change the opening guide where it shows you the features of the app on first open, to include a slide that informs the user that there is a side menu that can be accessed via a swipe from the side, but I can understand your decision to place it on the keyboard, this is really just another option. the way the text of the delete and clear buttons is off center feels out of place, not entirely sure why though. You might consider playing with some differently formatted fonts such as bold to indicate hierarchy and help people find more commonly used functions more easily. The icons color scheme doesn't feel like it matches that of the app, and as others have said, feels complicated/cluttered. I think all functionality in the side bar should be placed above the "rate" "go premium" and "share buttons," in my oppionion it's fine to have them there, but they should be out of the way so that people only have to look at them if they're trying to do one of those things, you may even separate those entries in the menu from those above with a line, or some other way. I would use a material graphic for the image in the side bar as opposed to what feels like a generic material design wallpaper, it would make your app feel like it has a lot more personality and make it stand out. the blue that indicates the selected item in the side menu should match the color scheme of the app. the ability to swipe own on the "display" of the calculator (where inputted expressions are displayed) and have it side down to display output history, with the ability to copy entries to the clipboard, or save them retroactively. I think the color scheme in general might need rethinking, but I can't really say. you need to be able to adjust the amount of time it takes to use a key's secondary function
I haven't gotten to do any complex math with the app yet, but the input engine you described sounds phenomenal, I plan on keeping it installed and playing with it some as time goes on, and watching the app develop. also, I would love to help contribute if you guys could use a hand with anything graphic design, I'm always looking to do pro bono work for my resume (as a 17 year old without formal graphic design experience or education, anything for the resume is a good thing x) so if you guys would like to use a material graphic for the picture in the side bar, or need help at all with the icon, or really anything at all, I would be extremely excited to contribute.
Regardless, keep up the phenomenal work, I can't wait to see what your app becomes as you continue to improve it over time!
I use this one.
What can I say? It works. 2+2*2 equals 6 and it also displays roots and graphs.
this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android2.calculator3 was the calculator app on the HTC 10, and puts calculator tile in quick settings
The one I use is a slimmed down scientific calculator called just "Calculator" from developer Xlythe.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android2.calculator3&hl=en
I've always replaced stock with this one:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android2.calculator3
Try this one here. It is basically the same, and should work for you.
I like these open-source calculators, which are open-source and based on Cyanogenmod's calculators:
I suppose the extra permissions are for Android Wear. I'm not sure, but the permissions are quite mild anyway.
And I'm installing the OP calculator! It looks good, with a fresh approach to a "calculator".
CM calculator which is basically the same plus a cool widget https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android2.calculator3
This one? it can work in a "bubble"
