If you have a fingerprint sensor, you could do most of those with something like a fingerprint gestures app
Also check your music app, sometimes you can set it to switch tracks with a long press on the volume buttons
The other cool dude who commented here has got your last two questions answered so I'll answer the first. Yep, Fingerprint Quick Action does exactly what you want. From the first time I've used it it worked great! The only reason I got rid of it was because its far more easier for me to just press the notification down thing in the home touch button area...
I use fingerprint quick action https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ztc1997.fingerprint2sleep you can program it to bring the nonification panel down by taping it once or twice and many other things.
There is an app that override the fingerprint sensor to do some other actions, like go home, swipe left and right and such things. If I recall correctly it's this app.

I made a post a few days ago regarding setting the scanner to go home the only way I've managed is through this app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ztc1997.fingerprint2sleep&hl=en I really hope google add a move that allows you to just enable fingerprint home because it's made the experience so much better IMO.
i love this phone you can do whatever you want :D

It's no longer updated, but it works for me perfectly fine.
If anyone knows of an updated app which can accomplish the same thing, I'd appreciate if you could let me know.
I'm using immersive mode and fingerprint quick actions, associated the fast swipe/quick tap to the back button and the single tap to the home button.
I think is a great solution for us having the fingerprint sensor on the front.
The closest you can get is using a fingerprint quick action app like this one and setting it so that when you touch the power button it goes home.
But you forget the most important thing which is price. I don't think the $100 difference offset is worth everything you mentioned. If you want a better camera, go for it, but the SD626 and SD625 is a bare improvement.
As for the fingerprint navigation, you can use this on any phone that has a fingerprint reader.
There is an app for that: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ztc1997.fingerprint2sleep
It isn't updated for a long time though, and it doesn't work on Pie. There is a Magisk module but only for the Oneplus 5T.
I think it is all very specific to the fingerprint sensor being used, and not universally compatible.
There is an app called Fingerprint Quick Action, you can use double tap to map custom function and you can use root to go to sleep. Without root there are only half-assed solutions as far as I know.
To use the fingerprint button other than just to wake/lock the device on Moto Z Play, you can download Fingerprint Quick Action. I use it as a home and back button now.
Overall, I prefer the Z Play over G5 Plus mainly because of mods, AMOLED display + bigger size, and a better battery. Software is near identical and camera is decent enough for me to not care too much about the difference.
You use a app that replicates this, it won't be as smooth as the pixel/Nexus phones but it should do the trick.
I used this third party app called Fingerprint Quick Action in the past so not sure if it still works. I no longer use it as it caused too many accidental swipes.
I just figured it out, this app works perfectly with no root: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ztc1997.fingerprint2sleep
There's an app called "Quick fingerprint action" on play store. Quick fingerprint Action It lets you customize the finger swap actions. I've tried it on a mi 9t pro and it works. I think it'll work on a note 8 too
There are a few apps on the play store that can do it (but you have to dig)but since they're not native to the Moto system, they do weird things. But one might end up working for you. Here are a couple examples:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ztc1997.fingerprint2sleep
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.flextrick.fringerprintscannertools
Fingerprint Quick Action seems to be what you are looking for: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ztc1997.fingerprint2sleep
It's open source so it's unlikely to steal your data. The same app is also available as an Xposed tweak if you really want
I use Fingerprint Quick Action to do this. The Play Store page says it's not compatible with Android P but it works fine for me.
I use this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ztc1997.fingerprint2sleep
Works pretty well, but might have some bugs. I have two taps setup to turn on the flashlight, and that works most of the time as well.
Yeah this is curiously missing. However there's a temporary workaround using Fingerprint Quick Action. Works fine for me. Hopefully they add it with the next update - no idea why they even thought of removing this.
I'm using
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ztc1997.fingerprint2sleep
And mapped it to back/home/switcher to use with full immersive mode for both 2 regular and XL. Works like a dream for the most part except when you have to authenticate apps with fingerprint. In that case the gestures get disabled briefly. Saves a lot of thumb cramps on bigger size phones.
Fingerprint Quick Action in the play store blows this away. I was exited to have the feature from Beta 2 but having a single action vs 2 or 3 from FQA pales.

I know not every phone has a fingerprint reader that would be compatible with this, but at least it increases the amount of devices that have it.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ztc1997.fingerprint2sleep
I use https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ztc1997.fingerprint2sleep&hl=en and set long press to Home and I use it so much that when I handled a tablet at work I ended up trying to press the back of the case to go back >.<
edit: wait did you mean long press on the backwards button im dumb
We are in the same situation, except I found a simple solution to our problem. I felt the same way too with my 6p. Root your phone and flash this mod from XDA. It literally has every single Pixel XL feature. From the assistant, animated home button, weather widget, unlimited photo storage, and so on. I haven using my "Pixel 6p" for a very long time now and I went to Best Buy recently to fool around with an actual Pixel they had on display......after 2 minutes I put it down because it was the same thing as my 6p...except my 6p has dual front facing speakers. Try it out because it saved me from blowing $799 on a new Pixel XL and im going to wait for the next wave to come out. If you have any questions let me know. Hope it helps. Here's the link for the mod: http://forum.xda-developers.com/nexus-6p/themes-apps/flashable-zip-night-light-round-icons-t3486794 Here's the link for the fingerprint actions: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ztc1997.fingerprint2sleep&hl=en ENJOY! :D
There is another alternative called "Fingerprint Quick Action": -
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ztc1997.fingerprint2sleep
Which is compatible with more devices and has an xposed module version. That doesn't require accessibility services enabled.
"Fingerprint gestures" didn't work on my RN3 Pro and was incompatible with it.

Would anyone be able to test an app for me on Axon 7 please? It's called Fingerprint Quick Action https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ztc1997.fingerprint2sleep
Under the quick action heading change the single tap to expand notification panel. Then go to your home screen and tap the scanner to bring down the notification panel. Does it come down fast or really slowly? (Coming down really slowly is a marshmallow bug, just want to know if it's present in ZTE's android version too).
Edit: no need to test anymore, the bug isn't present on ZTE's marshmallow
While the functionality isn't the same Fingerprint Quick Action gives you some great options.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ztc1997.fingerprint2sleep
You can install an app to get fingerprint gestures. I'm using this one.
Oh yeah, I forgot that the proper API was added in Oreo, which the 5T officially doesn't have yet.
So unless you want to use a custom ROM, you might have some luck with apps that rely on hacks (fingerprint misreads) in order to execute actions.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=vn.tb.th.finger

Looks like this one posted below might work for you
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ztc1997.fingerprint2sleep
Sadly no, but there are a few 3rd party apps that can add partial functionality (like what /u/Gravvitas said) - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ztc1997.fingerprint2sleep
I use Fingerprint Quick Action for single tap screen off my 6P. No root. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ztc1997.fingerprint2sleep
Sounds like this is what your looking for
Fingerprint Quick Action does the trick for me.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ztc1997.fingerprint2sleep
The only built in gesture for the fingerprint scanner is double tap, and you need to use one of their prebuilt actions (no custom actions): https://i.imgur.com/T76KUum.jpg
If you want swipe gestures on the fingerprint scanner, you can try the app Fingerprint Quick Gestures: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ztc1997.fingerprint2sleep
The app appears to work when I tested it just now, but you'll probably have to set it to autostart and also remove battery restrictions on the app to prevent the phone from killing the app.
You can use apps like this https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ztc1997.fingerprint2sleep
Maybe you can try it with this app?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ztc1997.fingerprint2sleep
If you really wanna try it out!
this app does what I wanted :D https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ztc1997.fingerprint2sleep
I've read on XDA that this app could work for you.
There is fingerprint quick action on the play store https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ztc1997.fingerprint2sleep But I found the vibration at every pressure quite annoying.
Try this app: Fingerprint Quick Action
This app works great for fingerprint gestures.
PSA: use this app to get fingerprint gesture: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.ztc1997.fingerprint2sleep
