if it helps. Firefox for Android Beta got UBlock origin add-ons
Assuming you bought this device with your own money, you are well within your rights to re-image it with your own licensed copy of ChromeOS. Incidentally, FireFox is technically an option: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox_beta
However, if usage of the school network is conditional to the school administrator controlling the device (which is a rather lazy BYOD policy if you ask me), then you may not have this option. Essentially, you can either choose between having your own device, or having a device manged by your school administrator.
Secret Settings are only available in Firefox Beta and Firefox Nightly.
If you want something more stable but still on the new interface, Firefox Beta (yes, the name is wrong) has moved to the new GeckoView version of the browser.
It is fixed in Firefox 53, which should be out in ~5 days from now.
If you can't wait, you can use the Beta version until then.
You go into the settings > About Firefox > tap on the top logo several times. This will enable some extra settings including enabling the custom sync server settings. About:config is not enabled in release builds. You can use Firefox Beta or Nightly if you need that.
Maybe I'm a bit confused about how version numbers work in Firefox - Are the third numbers considered beta? Even by that logic Daylight should've been introduced in 79.0.1. before becoming stable in 79.1.0
Then what about the seperate Beta channel? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox_beta&hl=en_US
Frankly, unless you want to use esoteric add-ons, I think you would be better off using the beta. It has a better UI and the sync UI is improved. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox_beta
Bromite is based on Chromium but it's ungoogled and has adblock. Basically privacy friendly Chrome with adblock. Firefox beta is a rewritten Firefox that is overall better than the old one. It doesn't have all add-ons, but there are few like uBlock Origin and Dark Reader.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox_beta
Firefox beta has a bottom address bar, FYI.
>Do I scour the interwebs for the Chrome .apk iteration JUST before this update so I can get my beloved Duet back?
Bad idea - you open yourself up to security holes.
>I also can't login on Chrome for Android either.
If you cannot login in Chrome as well then I don't think there's any problem on Firefox. It could be an Instagram issue.
Can you try this on this version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox_beta?
Firefox Beta has a bottom address bar (like Duet used to), doesn't track you, has end to end encrypted sync of browser history, bookmarks and passwords, and has (some) extension support.
Are the files abnormaly large (above 1gb?). It 100% should work in Firefox on android even it is very large. Do you have any add-ons which might be disrupting it?
Can you try on a fresh version of Firefox (no add-ons or changed settings), you can use firefox beta and not lose your main browser.
Don't know if it will work for you, but I installed Firefox Beta on my phone and it performs much better than release version of Firefox.
Which is currently in Beta and can be downloaded from the play store.
edit: Also, that information would line up with this bug.
The latest stable version is 106. Firefox 107 is currently in beta status.
You can use the dark theme as a workaround.
This isn't an official platform. Please send your feedback to Mozilla employees: Translation add-on Firefox for Android.
Note that Nightly is the alpha version. There's a proper Firefox Beta, which is more stable than Nightly and now also supports AMO collections.
That is very strange. Can you try Firefox beta - as it uses different user settings so we can be assured that there are no leftover settings that may interfere: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox_beta
The browser shouldn't crash regardless of your settings, so there's nothing I can suggest you besides waiting for the next update.
In the meantime, you can try the Beta version. It's technically a "work in progress" test version and may contain new issues, but the problem you're facing on your phone might have already been solved on it.
You've mentioned podcasts, but the extension is programmed to work only on Youtube and Vimeo. I tested it, and the extension worked with a Youtube video.
Maybe your phone or Android version has a feature to "battery saver" feature that is blocking it?
You can try it with Firefox Beta to see if it has the same issue on your phone.
Check if it works with Firefox for Android Beta.
If it does, then there's something wrong with your main Firefox install. Go to your phone settings, find the Firefox app and use the Clear Data
option to reset all settings.
You can use Sync to transfer your bookmarks to the beta version before doing that, and then after resetting the settings, you can sync them back to the stable version.
It shouldn't matter because in my attempts to fix this I have made other browsers the default and I have uninstalled this browser. Anyway, I'm using Firefox for Android Beta.
Install Firefox Beta or Fennec so you can access about:config
and change image.animation_mode
to none
.
Firefox Beta or Fennec let you access about:config
with greater stability than Nightly.
There are not. No updates since 24 February and the official Security Advisory on Mozilla.org does not mention a Beta update. Stable does show an update 3 days ago on Play. It seems that the Mobile Beta is not receiving security updates.
I feel like this is a good time to remind people that you can help prevent these kinds of issues from rolling out to the rest of the population (and help Firefox) by switching your browser to the beta version.

There is a "recently closed tabs" feature in Firefox Beta that will arrive in the next release. You can access it now in Firefox Beta: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox_beta
Thanks! Sorry, I totally missed that this was Android - that is fine but can you do some more troubleshooting?
Can you see if you can reproduce the issue in Beta? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox_beta
I use Nightly. If you are on this sub-reddit, I'd recommend Beta: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox_beta
If you are willing to report bugs, use Nightly! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.fenix
TLDR: I got through!
I spent 6 hours trying to fax over my DL and SS card and answers to all of those Identity Verification questions that they've published. Repeatedly attempting and getting "line busy" or "no answer" but about 4am got a fax confirmation.
Also, I uploaded both on the website under My Documents but with that, you have to get through on the phone line to actually let them know they you've done that for any action to be taken 🙄
So then I set an alarm and started at 8am. I either immediately got disconnected after the "high call volume" recorded message or completed the maze of "press 2 to stay on the line" questions and then it would say "we're connecting you now" which was immediately followed by the "high volume" recording and it would drop my call. 🤬
At about 10am I was actually really on hold for a live person and getting hold music!
While sitting there @ 28 minutes of hold, I downloaded Firefox for Android Beta, just to try yet another browser (I've gone through all the tricks of using Chrome, DuckDuckGo, clearing cache, using laptop vs tablet, turning Do Not Track on, and off, etc) and when I got logged into DEW, it looked different for the first time and I clicked the Identity Verification for the now approximately 1000th time and it went through!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox_beta
No, it is a separate install. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox_beta
Bookmarks list should be coming in some updates - see https://www.reddit.com/r/firefox/comments/ixxqcf/android_homescreen_designs_latest_mockups/ for mockups and provide feedback there if you have any.
Hmm, that is really weird. Since you can reproduce it and it doesn't need to be live, can you try beta and see if it happens there too? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox_beta
FWIW, some of us have been using it for about a year now. Clearly our uses are not always exactly what your uses are.
Thankfully, it is easy to see what is happening in the next version of Firefox - you can just download Beta and try it out. If you hate it or find issues, report bugs!
Beta is currently better than release. If you are an enthusiast (if you are posting here, you may be an enthusiast), I would recommend beta: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox_beta
The bad reviews are from longtime Firefox users who don't like the new UI and some missing features. Growing pains, basically.
This is the current "stable" version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox_beta
The standard Firefox build is still based on the legacy Fennec and will soon be phased out.
If you need Chrome integrations try to use Bromite (also available on F-Droid), a Chromium fork, open-source and privacy oriented alternative. See if there's that bug there or use something different meanwhile, as Firefox Beta a great browser for one-handed operations.
Firefox mobile is being rewritten for performance. As far as I can tell some release users have been upgraded already, but if you want to ensure you get the rewrite install Firefox Beta.
They actually did some (horrible) consolidation recently. Firefox preview is now firefox beta. Meanwhile, existing users were transitioned over to firefox nightly for some reason with no easy way to migrate data over to the new firefox beta.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox_beta&hl=en_US
ublock origin support is nice, but it's missing a lot of creature comforts (swiping down to reload, swiping the address bar to quickswitch tabs).
There are known issues with auto-fill passwords on Fenix with different password managers. Refer this issue: https://github.com/mozilla-mobile/fenix/issues/9773
And report your issues there if need be.
Thanks. :)
Can you try this version: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox_beta
It's the new version of Firefox being developed by Mozilla which is faster but still lacks some features and is set to replace the current stable version.
If you liked the bottom address bar, Firefox Beta has one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox_beta
That and working sync across desktop and mobile and nice privacy features.
I don't use Google Play, so I download the APK directly. It's the same thing as : > Beta <org.mozilla.firefox_beta>
I think there were two releases for each build before :
I just guessed this from this page: https://github.com/mozilla-mobile/fenix/releases.
The new Firefox is just a bit rough around the edges still.
However use the Firefox Beta channel rather then Preview:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox_beta
They're both the new version of Firefox, but Preview might be discontinued.
Does turning off auto complete suggestions not work for you? Have you tried Firefox beta and see if it's the same issue there as well?
Are you using Firefox Beta ? Can you test this on Firefox Nightly? There was a bug affecting this but it's been solved but the updates to the beta version are rolling out a bit slowly.
Does disabling "Show search suggestions" doesn't work for you? Have you tried Firefox Beta and disable "Show search suggestions", it's a new version of Firefox which is set to replace thr current Firefox for Android.
IIRC Fennec had sync related bugs specifically with bookmarks. Fenix uses a new Rust based bookmark sync that is supposed to work better.
Does it work better in Firefox Beta? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox_beta
> It’s just that I always found the performance of them pretty similar, whilst Firefox with its Geko engine had always felt laggy and stuttery which is a real shame.
Try Firefox Beta: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox_beta
If you really care about the performance then you should not use Nighltly versions they are meant for the developers and early users and contain bug and are unstable hence the name Nighltly they are produced almost daily.
As for the performance I'm not seeing any differences from chromium browsers in fact it is faster than Chrome on my device. If I'm correct you're using a device which has Qualcomm Snapdragon 430, which is a low-end processor and Mozilla is trying to improve the performance on those devices as well.
For now use Firefox Beta version (its name has changed for now to Mozilla Firefox Browser due to an experiment they're running).
And if possible please report your performance issues to developers here: https://github.com/mozilla-mobile/fenix/issues
Wherever features request please file it here: https://github.com/mozilla-mobile/fenix/issues/
By the way, what you mean by "tabs on the bottom"? Firefox Preview already has bottom navigation bar. Try the Firefox Beta version perhaps you'll like that one
Okay, this sounds really interesting! Are you using Firefox Beta, What device are you using? Have you filed a bug report for it, of not file bug report for the Firefox Beta here: https://github.com/mozilla-mobile/fenix/issues/
Firefox Beta has a bottom address bar (like Duet used to), doesn't track you, has end to end encrypted sync of browser history, bookmarks and passwords, and has (some) extension support.

Firefox Preview will be phased out in near future in place of Firefox Beta based on Pull Request I saw on Mozilla Mobile's GitHub page. But I couldn't find the link it.
Firefox Beta is the most stable version of Firefox Preview. It's best to be on that channel rather than Firefox Preview, which likely will be closed once this makes it into the mainstream Firefox Stable build.

>MacOS: Been trying hard to use it since Quantum release. Lots of bugs & most annoying is the battery power drain. They've optimize it better now, but took a long time.
Honestly, I almost never use my machines on battery, so I used Firefox forever on macOS, but it is a lot better on battery now.
>Android: Just slow. Dragged my feet sticking with Firefox, but finally gave up last year and just used Kiwi. But, I'm hopeful Fenix when ready would bring me back.
Just use Firefox beta - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox_beta - I won't deny that Kiwi is fairly fast, but the new Firefox is fast too. I have been testing on lower end hardware as well.
I thought they had adblocking? The only one I know that has specifically uBlock is Firefox. Have you tried the new beta? It just landed, and it's much faster and more modern.
The plan is for Firefox Preview, was that it would eventually filter down to regular releases of Firefox.
Before it was Firefox Preview/Firefox Preview Nightly that was the new browser.
And Firefox/Firefox Beta that was the old browser.
Right now, the updates in Firefox Preview, are now on Firefox Beta.
There isn't much reason to get Firefox Preview over Firefox Beta, which is much more stable.
Tldr, this one.

Use Firefox for Android Beta and install plugins like adblock and User-Agent string manipulators that trick Reddit and Facebook from redirecting you to their mobile-only versions!
I am guessing this means that Firefox for Android Beta is now Quantum.
Google Play links for the lazy.
(Sorry, for some reason, I can not add text to the entry.)
The file: https://uploadfiles.io/zh2ur
Sorry, it just works in Firefox for Android.
Based on Rikaichan for Android, which is based in Rikaisama, which is based on the original Rikaichan...
I just changed the dictionary file and made a couple of changes.
As it is unsigned, you need Firefox beta:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox_beta&hl=es
And you need to disable "xpinstall.signatures.required" in about:config:
Just enter about:config as page url, search in the list for xpinstall.signatures.required and toggle its value to false.
Feedback, please.
It lags on every phone. I'd recommend Firefox Beta. It's been the best Android browser I've used. (and you can install add-ons like adblock) You can also use Firefox, but Beta is very stable and I've found it even better.
This one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox_beta
Nightly builds do tend to have problems. If you do not want to deal with those problems you may want to stick to the stable version.
Reporting the issue will probably help.
Here you go its currently v57b just isnt called Quantum.
Have you tried Firefox Beta?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox_beta
Only Mozilla managers can answer your question. Please use this page to send your message to them: Expand Add-on Compatibility in Firefox for Android.
Until they decide to expand the number of extensions available for the main Firefox app, you can use Firefox Beta instead and follow this tutorial (it says Nightly but works with Beta too now).
It was recent yes.
There is a bug with the naming of the beta where it is showing as just Firefox.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox_beta
Try that link.
Mozilla Firefox Browser, previously known as Firefox Beta.
Try Firefox Beta: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox_beta
Try Firefox Beta. It is complete rewrite, but unfortunately doesn't support many addons yet.
You are using <org.mozilla.firefox_beta>
The links the others gave will help a lot and good for backups depending on your mobile-tablet device/android OS version.

Firefox Beta has a widget. It will be in release as part of Firefox 67.
Yep. Make your second install the beta version.

Hope you're on Android: Firefox for Android.
In that case, DNS-over-HTTPS could help you, but it's only available from <code>about:config</code> on Android.
You'd have to install the modified Firefox release from F-Droid or Firefox Beta, and then set these about:config
preferences:
network.trr.mode
- 2
or 3
(documentation)network.trr.uri
- https://mozilla.cloudflare-dns.com/dns-query
This test page shows you whether it is working.
Configure the proxy on desktop from the settings page to your liking, then visit about:config
and take note of the modified network.proxy
settings. Use an Android version that has access to about:config
like Firefox Beta, Fennec or Nightly and apply the same settings.
Out of curiosity, does it work in Firefox beta? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=org.mozilla.firefox_beta
On Firefox Beta, Fennec or Nightly, go to about:config
and try clearing dom.popup_allowed_events
.
You can enable Total Cookie Protection on Firefox Beta, Fennec or Nightly by going to about:config
and changing network.cookie.cookieBehavior
to 5
. Blocking third party cookies is stricter than TCP.

You can make mobile sites a little less annoying by installing uBlock Origin and enabling all the annoyance filters. There's also the built-in "Desktop site" toggle.
On Firefox Beta, Fennec or Nightly, you can go to about:config
and create general.useragent.override
(String) with the value you want and increase the viewport size by changing layout.css.devPixelsPerPx
to 0.7
.
On Firefox Beta, Fennec or Nightly, you can go to about:config
and change dom.indexedDB.privateBrowsing.enabled
to true
but this will make it less private.
On Firefox Beta, Fennec or Nightly, you can go to about:config
and change media.peerconnection.enabled
to false
to disable WebRTC.
Does it still happen on Firefox Beta?
On Firefox Beta, Fennec or Nightly, you can go to about:config
and clear dom.popup_allowed_events
.
You could install a different version like Firefox Beta for school notes.
Beta also has access to about:config, though not the arbitrary addon support of Nightly.

Firefox Beta has add-on support, uBlock Origin is enabled by default on the latest update. If you're after a video downloader, I'm sure there's an add-on for that too.
UC Turbo is owned by Alibaba group, it's basically a data mining browser, with security and privacy vulnerabilities. Firefox on the other hand is owned by Mozilla, their technologies are open-source and it's a non-profit.
There are other options such as Vivaldi and Brave, but I like Firefox the most.
Firefox Beta comes with uBlock Origin now. Has a dark theme too.
