Last time I tried using Google Maps offline it didn't really work. I was going on a trip from Vilnius Lithuania, to Tampere Finland with a stop in Helsinki. Google allowed me to download like 90% of Lithuania only.
That said, I still don't really get why people buy Tom Tom's. I've been using this for like 7 years now without a hiccup.
Was hältst Du denn von MapFactor Navigator? Ist immerhin unter Android die am höchsten bewertete Navigations-App auf Basis der OSM-Daten.
Good list and maybe it should be pinned in the wiki here. Thank you for the offline maps suggestions, will give a try on OsmAnd, a cross platform one seems interesting for members of the family with different devices. An useful note to each app would be telling the platform it is running on. Already using MapFactor for sometime now and I like how it allows downloading maps of only selected countries. And most interesting to me is that it allows trip records as files which can be replayed or shared.
I think "navigator" is:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mapfactor.navigator&hl=en

I have it as a backup, in case Waze and Google Maps will not work well :)
I tested it on MapFactor Navigator an offline GPS navigation app based on OSM; and it works seamlessly.
download navigator and on settings u can remove motorway...it will go u everywhere u want without going to motorway(highway) if u need help pm me https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mapfactor.navigator&hl=en

Hey, best thing to use is offline maps with an android device. Use program called Mapfactor, and make sure to download maps for Georgia.
Maps are based off of open source map project www.openstreetmap.org, they're great.
One little problem if you are already in Georgia looking up this app, the program will not show up at the google store, so in that case you would need to take out Georgian sim card, download Ghost VPN, and clear the google app in your phone before you would be able to download the app. Some reason half the programs on there don't show up for our region. But once you install it everything works just fine.

Have you done a full reboot of your phone? Tried safe mode? What model of phone is it?
Is there an app you run when you connect to Bluetooth? MapFactor GPS Navigation Maps can activate Car Mode, others might too.
Are there other Tasker tasks that seem to run, or is the Car Mode the only one?
Navigator od MapFactor-a je definitivno najbolja navigacija koju sam koristio za android, a uz sve to je jos free i radi bez interneta.
Evo je: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mapfactor.navigator&hl=en
Try MapFactor. It uses OpenStreetMap and has an included maps downloader so you can set it all up right on your phone. I've used it in China without any data connection, and it was very handy.

I find Navigator an excellent alternative to Google Maps. Apart from searching for a destination, it doesn't use mobile data making it light on power consumption as well. I use the free open source maps.
on android I use MapFactor
You only need to download the base map of your country and any updates, initially. It does not need data to work, although it does offer some options if you want it to.
I have been using it for years, and updates still being made by the developer, maps are open source and updated fairly regularly
I have Navigator as a backup option:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mapfactor.navigator&hl=en
Haven't used it in a while though.
I've used Navigator for bicycling routes.
I considered using Navigator when I could have a job as a delivery driver. I didn't get the job, though. Navigator uses Open Street Map and has a optimization function. Seems to work. With ETAs, but no for every stop. Just next and end.

Don't know if MapFactor has a version for an apple device. It offers everything I need, no strings attached to a provider, pure GPS, can download maps of any area I'm interested in, FREE, did I just used caps to say it's free?
I've been using MapFactor GPS Navigation on my Android phone. You can download offline maps. Great since I can't always get a cell signal.
Uses OSM (free) or TomTom maps. You can set a profile where you choose how much priority it should give each road type.
Map Factor GPS reliably got us all over the Costa Rica, coast to coast, north to south with no issues. Only once did it suggest a poor route but with a little advance research we made the necessary correction on the app. It operates only on GPS, no WiFi needed and is totally free. I downloaded the GPS App on to a tablet.
I am off to the Nicoya Peninsula next and will be using this GPS app again.
Sygic is good, but try "Navigator" which is also free and has offline maps. Currently it has even better rating on Google Play than Sygic so one might say that Navigator is the best offline GPS navigation app ;-). Check... https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mapfactor.navigator
I drove all over Costa Rica using this without getting lost. Leaving Juan Santamaria Airport (SJO) in Alajuela can be very busy and stressful but once out of the city it gets a lot easier. The drive from Alajuela to La Fortuna is gorgeous. Driving around La Fortuna is no problem. Driving at night can be a little sketchy as I passed many cars with no headlights working and people walking along the side of the roads. Unless you are going off road you can probably get away with a basic car and not a 4x4. This can cut your rental cost in half. Check if you have car rental insurance on your credit card and bring a copy of the policy. They have different insurance level there and will try to sell you the most expensive one. Go with whatever you are most comfortable with. The top one is piece of mind but expensive and may not be necessary if you have insurance on your CC.
I'm not sure if your GPS has the function, but there are apps you can download that will tell you. A quick search shows that MapFactor Navigator for Android will do this for you.
You may have to look for an app that works in your country though.
Oh sure. It was MapFactor GPS. You then download the maps for the states you want. Since I have a large SD card, I have like 5 states on it.
You can also just use some free turn-by-turn navigation that uses free maps and you can download larger areas beforehand (as Google allows only 50x50km max.). For example there is MapFactor: GPS Navigation or BE-ON-ROAD, they are maybe not as accurate as live Google maps (as update roll-out occasionally, like 2-3 months apart) and don't have traffic information, but they are good enough for the occasions where I can't use my data plan.
I used MapFactor while on a trip to Ecuador. The really cool thing is that it can track you in real time while you are flying.
Google lets you cache a small area but it can only be used for looking at, not for searching or navigation. Also it only works for 30 days. After that time frame you have to update the map.
Here's a free navigation app that lets you download the map data for offline navigation: MapFactor: GPS Navigation
I've personally had good experiences with https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mapfactor.navigator
take at loot at map factor offline and many more options.
I am, the one you mentioned is good, but I use this one more often.
This isn't an Android subreddit, Linkme won't work here. I'm guessing you're thinking of MapFactor Navigator (but maybe not).
Mapfactor Navigator. Hab schon etliche andere Apps probiert, bin aber immer wieder zurück zum Navigator.
If you don't need turn-by-turn navigation there are lots of non-Google possibilities such as MapFactor, Magic Earth, OsmAnd or Sygic. Heck some might even accept using Google Maps via a web browser, obtaining just a list of directions. For turn-by-turn there are fewer selections, generally none are free, such as CoPilot or TomTom GO (though TomTom AmiGO is currently free which it might continue to be after it is out of beta).
For Android I love Mapfactor Navigator. It also uses osm maps, and checks all your requirements.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mapfactor.navigator
This is kickass. I use this all the time
There are some free apps that do that too, like this
I've been using mapfactor for years without issue
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mapfactor.navigator
"navigator" is an excellent option for offline maps
Another navigation app that uses OSM data is this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mapfactor.navigator Used it when I was abroad in Germany.
If you wanted to try it, it is available completely for free on Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.mapfactor.navigator
I used this one for a couple years. Always worked well enough for me.
You can also use an offline gps in case of emergency
