It's actually way easier, install Oxygen Updater and search for updates. Works like a charm.
Edit: in the settings you can choose between incremental and full update. And incremental update is advised if you are on the lates OOS version.
Rollouts are staged (a good practice to catch problems IMHO).
I use Oxygen Updater because I'm comfortable jumping the line. It immediately notifies you of new updates and lets you download them. You can install them in settings, no ADB required.

It's a staged rollout but you can use Oxygen Updater to bypass that and get it right away. The app gets the OTA from the official source so it's reliable.

That update already came out, they're just rolling it out in stages. If you're so keen to update then you can use Oxygen Updater app to download and manually install it otherwise just wait and eventually it will show up on its own.
Generally speaking unless you're very enthusiastic about it I would suggest just waiting because since it's a new release there's bound to be issues and those will get fixed as time goes by and the chances of you directly getting a bugfixed version are higher.
yup yup, can confirm for the Global version, just download the app, use it to download the OS and install it thru the system settings (Settings>System>System Updates>click on the little gear on the top>Local Download>update)

Use Oxygen Updater, alerts you to latest updates (incremental and whole ROM). You can even set it so that it flashes magisk automatically after the ROM.

IIRC it will lose the unlock button in settings, meaning that if it is currently locked to T-Mobile you will have to contact T-Mobile customer support to get it unlocked to use on other carriers, whereas with the T-Mobile software there is a button in settings it can be unlocked without needing to contact customer support.
Other than that you won't lose any features.
And to use it with another sim you need it to be unlocked so you should probably unlock it before flashing anyway making this not an issue.

With most software versions you get the update when OnePlus finishes it.
With the carrier specific software you have to wait for T-Mobile to approve it, which adds some additional delay.
With both software versions the updates are gradually rolled out to more and more devices (it's not immediately made available to all devices because that would put a lot of load on their servers), however with the standard software you can jump ahead with this software allowing you to get the updates even sooner.
The standard software gets faster updates.

OnePlus do a gradual rollout for all updates. But you can either download the latest beta stable from oneplus' website. Or use oxygen updater.

First you have to roll back to the Oreo stable version following rollback-oneplus-6-from-android-pie-to-android-oreo guide, make sure to backup your data since this file will factory reset your device.

I still don't have 12 available through the system settings, although the Oxygen Updater app sees it. I don't know what the holdup is with the official rollout. US model 7 Pro FWIW.

I just updated my Global OP7P last night using the Oxygen Updater app to download the beta, flashed it normally through the OOS firmware updater.
You do have to adjust settings in the app for advanced mode and for beta (full) updates before the update will show.
So far everything works great, feels a little snappier than 11.
I was mainly worried that I would have issues since the images are for the Indian version of the phone. (In case anyone else is having second thoughts of flashing the beta)

I got this fixed...Open the Google Drive link ( my Google Drive ) and you will see the Local Upgrade apk. When you hit the drive link select the 3 dots and "Open In Browser" and you will be able to install the app straight from Google Drive. Once installed, go to your app drawer and search for "system", the app will appear with a cog over a white background as the icon, tap that and you will be greeted with the familiar local upgrade interface. Download and install the OTA file from Oxygen Updater app.

This app gives you always the newest updates. Just make sure you tell the app the right region your device has (global, India, EU, etc.). The region you got it from isn't necessarily the region your device has. For example I am in the EU but I have a global device. And use the "stable (incremental)" updates method but that should be the default setting anyway.
You just need to press download in the app, wait till it is done and then go in the settings > system updates > press the top right symbol > go on "local update" and there you can just tap on the update. There are no downsides using this method over the regular. The app just takes the files from the OnePlus website.
To be able to use 30w charging you need the official OnePlus power brick and the official OnePlus charging cable or a charging cable which is capable of delivering 30w. Most cables can't do 30w. Yes. OEM unlocking allows you to unlock the bootloader which allows you to do things like root the device. You should also be able to install Oxygen Updater or load the latest factory ROMs without having to wait for Metro to push them to you.
Get Oxygen Updater. This can't be real, since Im on security patch january on my op 7 pro and my friend received the january security patch a few days ago on oneplus 6.

You could try to install one more time the update. I've got the European version of Oxygen OS, so there might be some differences in the software itself but I can tell that there were minor problems and bugs on the version 10.0.6, which aren't anymore existing after udpating to 10.0.7. My OnePlus 6T Factory Unlocked is updated to Android 10, I used the oxygen updater by Adhiraj Singh Chauhan on the play store. It'll find out if your update is out or not and download the update. Some are being delayed (T-Mobile Mostly), the international ones are being delayed mostly because of the Virus supposedly.

I used it to update to 10.3.1 the day it came out. It's not available over the air because it is a staged rollout but this app allows you to skip that queue.
I would first try resetting all app permissions:
Settings > Apps > All Apps > three dots > Reset app preferences
This will reset all the permissions and defaults for every app, so make sure to go into the important ones and re-enable permissions and defaults you like.

I updated my through Oxygen Updater and it's worse. My battery drains like crazy. Any keyboard has the ugliest chin underneath, it's higher up the screen. The new gesture control is HORRIBLE. Every time I try to control my phone I activate the Google assistant. It's horror, hope for the new updates asap

Trying to flash OOS 5.1.5 or 9.0.5 directly won't work due to Treble implementation being added by OTA (in detail OOS 5.1.4 prepared stuff for Treble, OOS 5.1.5 enabled Treble and 9.0.5 is latest stable release available)

It lets you download the updates when OnePlus releases them, without waiting for OnePlus to roll it out to you specifically (OnePlus usually pushes updates out to only a percentage of devices and gradually pushes them out to more, untill it becomes available to 100% of devices). You can then install the update file through the built in updater without rooting or unlocking bootloader.
Check if you have the latest update i.e. OOS 11.0.0.2 (hotfix) if not, download Oxygen Updater from the play store. Check for updates (if any). After that, Factory Reset it from the recovery. 99% bugs won't exist after performing this procedure.
