Battle Cats is a cute Japanese-origin game about cats taking over the world with some strategy and RPG elements. As you progress through the game, some of the characters get quite ridiculous. It's a fun time-waster. There's even a subreddit.
Out of curiosity I googled Battle Cats and I might just have to give that a try during my next break. Absolute respect for putting your logo on the car!

There ya go :) It has lots of options for a free game. My brother recommended it, I'd never heard of it before that either.
Battle Cats está piola, llevo como 2 años jugandolo. Tiene una progresion tremenda y hasta su propio meta, no es PvP eso si.

The first cat unit in The Battle Cats game. Was really invested in playing this game when I saw a video about it a couple of years ago. Zelda for those interested. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.ponos.battlecatsen
I think OP wants games like The Battle Cats ( i haven't played since 2.0, I dont know how much it has changed)
They can be pretty fun time wasters. Lots of people seem to call them Tower defense but it's not the typical tower defense. The game takes place like a 2D side scroller and there is a base on each side and you send different unit types to kill the AI base (you have to manage resources and cooldowns to spawn them), but the AI sends their guys too. They run into each other, fight, and whoever wins that skirmish will keep going for the base or until they run into more AI. You pretty much just have to overwhelm them to kill their AI so they can get to the base killing.
I used to play quite a few of these games but it's been years haha. There was a norse god themed one I played amongst many others. There was also other variations that started cropping up, but I quit most, because of the time sink. But the astronomical amount of apps makes it hard to figure out what it was. Battle cats was good, but not my favorite, but its the only one I remember since i played it last.

sadly the pictures don't really show any resemblance of gameplay. Here is a random video...it doesnt start out near this hard lol. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xeKs8ugR1hk
No, its often that, due to game design, they can't actually play any further without a real money investment. Take BattleCats as an example. You get 200 or so points in the beginning and spend them by conquering levels. You then earn exp which can be used to increase your total points pool.
If you run out of points, you can either stop playing for the hour or so it takes for them to regenerate or pay a small amount to restore them immediately.
I've been playing The Battle Cats recently. Games themselves take about 5-10 minutes on the longer side. Lots to unlock and upgrade. Quite fun. Also on iTunes

Speaking of BattleCat, The Battle Cats (tower defense style game) is one of the most fun mobile games I've played .
It is the really really old original Battle Cats version which from version 1.8 or somewhere onward becomes BCJP when PONOS stripped out the dual language feature.
If you are installing from apk download / out from market, you have to manually update it by installing newer version of the apk, which in your case is BCJP 3.4.0 apk.
Get that here: http://www.reddit.com/r/battlecats/comments/2w2m7u/bcjp_34_apk_android_only_httpbitly1vpbmku/
Just warning, it is fully Japanese only language. Playstore would not update even though it shows you have it installed if you installed from external apk.
If you insisted on getting the official current EN version instead, go here: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=jp.co.ponos.battlecatsen

Not sure if the Switch version has the same parity as the above mobile versions.
For a second I thought I saw Battle Cats...

Sending units against computer enemy who sends units against you, upgrading and getting new units with some unique abilities.
There are ads you can choose to watch if you wish to restore energy to play more, otherwise the energy just restores on its own over time. But I like its system, you wont get bored with it as fast when you cant play 2 hours in a row.
Been playing for almost 2 years, expanding the arsenal of cats, the toilet game...
