My mom had that same problem with email drafts getting deleted (WHY google has a confirmation for send or delete but not for discard draft, I will never know dear God), I've started using - with her permission - a chrome plugin called typio form recovery. It basically captures everything she writes on Chrome locally, and then you can recover to a given page for a user set amount of time. It of course has blacklists of sites you don't want it to work on.
It's made my it life a lot easier, helping her recover drafts on a number of occasions. Also a similar app for android type machine, except this works across the entire device.
Again, both of these are functionally keyloggers. Beware of using them if your device is used on a corporate network, and of course is only is legal if you use it with the full consent and explanation to whoever's device it is.

Type machine. Never have to worry about that again. It saves every keystroke, is always running and falls under that category of 'only use it when you need it'.
Type Machine is basically a keylogger that saves you time if an app crashed or you accidentally deleted a bunch of text. It's like a general 'undo/redo' for the keyboard.
Sorry to hear that. I've never heard of a keyboard that does what you're looking for, but Type Machine, which records everything you type (in the apps you want it to monitor), has bailed me out of several situations like yours.
Type Machine often saved my ass..

Unfortunately it has this stupid bug that the volume slider won't disappear automatically (without touching the screen) or stay for a really long time until it's gone.
There's Type Machine an Android Keylogger that records everything you type, sorting it by app, and allowing you scroll back in time to the last word entered
Additional features include an app blacklist, password protection on the app itself, and auto clearing of history after a specified time period
If you're on android, there's an app called Type Machine, ^(link) that runs in the background and saves what you write, so you can recover it if something crashes/fails to go through.
To be clear, while in principle it's similar to a keylogger, there are a few major differences:
For the record, I have no affiliation with the app. I installed it after losing a long email I was writing (grumble grumble gmail on android has no confirmation when deleting a draft, which is super easy to fatfinger, and no way to recover it afterwards). It's saved me on multiple occasions since then.
If you're not on android... I have no idea, sorry.
Doesn't really fix the bug within the app, but i find that this app does a pretty good job as a system wide failsafe for lost drafts, crashes, reloading of apps, etc.

Type Machine uses accessibility to store everything you type for a limited time, allowing you to actually 'undo' an accidentally deleted input.
I see. I didn't think of that. I use Type Machine just in case I accidentally delete the text I'd written or an app crashes but I hadn't considered a scenario like yours. I guess an undo would definitely help then. I wonder if ctrl+z would work with a physical keyboard?

This app will at least record what you type AND in what app you typed it in.
Are you sure you don't want to just turn off your phone, stick it in a drawer, and use an alarm clock when you go to bed?
Type Machine has worked for well for me over the past 5 years or so. However, there have been times where it stopped recording after a software update and I had to grant permissions again. I've primarily used it on Samsung Notes phones, but I also have it running on an old LG G6 and One Plus 7 Pro.
For this purpose, I already have applications TypeMachine and Inputting, but I will save yours, I will know, good luck!
Not directly related to reddit but there's a paid app called type machine. It's basically a keyloger. Is logs everything you type in each app in case the app crashes or some other reason. So you could always retrieve your comments from type machine if they don't go through.

Type Machine is a local keylogger that saves everything you enter on the keyboard in case your app crashes or you accidentally select all and clear.
It's two years old but basically it's complete, as in it does everything it is supposed to do and theres no reason for an update.
It has saved me time from losing stuff by fat fingering and app crashes, although the crashes are a lot more rare these days vs when it was released.
Type Machine is a nifty $2 app that saves everything that you type so you won't have to worry about losing what you typed by accidentally exiting an app when typing or app randomly crashing.
Type machine is a keylogger that records the text history of each and every one of your apps unless otherwise configured
Type Machine. It's a great productivity app. It saves everything you type on your android phone. Basically a keylogger for Android. You can lock the app with a PIN code, blacklist apps, automatic scheduled cleanup, prevent screenshots while using the app, etc.
Type Machine has saved me so much time because of this, it paid for itself easy
This is the main reason I have Type Machine on my device
Type Machine was made for exactly such situations (or when an app crashes on you).
Check out Type Machine, it'll mostly prevent that stuff from happening.
There's an app for that: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fi.rojekti.typemachine
This might help just a bit if shes on android

I use Type Machine. It costs two bucks, but it's reliable and secure.
Check this app out, it has saved me so much time it's worth the price: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fi.rojekti.typemachine
Like u/ttrublu said, it depends. But here are some apps.
A couple of emulators if you're interested in that.
Root apps
Xposed is a must if you're on Marshmallow or below. Your phone should be rooted for Xposed to work. F-Droid is also excellent. It's an app store where you can download free, open source apps.
Then this app should be of interest to many of you https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fi.rojekti.typemachine
Slightly OT: I have Type Machine installed for such accidents.
Type Machine is app that saves everything you type, including in Firefox.

It displays a notification when you restart the phone, so just turn off notifications.
If you're on Android, you can use Type Machine
Type Machine. Yes, works on A10. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fi.rojekti.typemachine
I'm using a similar app for years. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fi.rojekti.typemachine
Can i test your app? Seems yours have more options Thanks
Type Machine. it's not a keylogger but something like that. btw it's a paid app.
Similarly, you can use Type Machine on Android.
Also, Type Machine app (paid, unfortunately) provides the same functionality on Android, system-wide.
Incoming Bias (I mean, you did ask this on an LG subreddit) :-p
I've been a fan of the past few G-devices (had a G2, went to a G3, and currently use a G4), and I always get compliments on the camera and the screen when I handed it to people to take photos. People don't like LGs UI, but I'm impartial to the pastel colors and don't think they're too hard on the eye. Sony's software is one of the closest you'll get to stock outside of a Nexus phone, with only Motorola being one-step closer.
I can barely notice the UI because I use Nova Launcher anyway, and even if I wasn't a fan of the brightness/audio notification sliders, they can be hidden (quick toggles can't though, but that's ok because they're helpful). My one big complaint is that the default DPI of 640 is obscene for this phone, and one of the main usages of root would be adjusting it to a more comfortable 580 (even as low as 520).
Also of note is that LG has a clipboard that is handy for copying multiple things (Screenshots and text), and it'd be hard for me to move off of it. If you weren't going to go with LG, there are apps that can replicate that functionality - like Type Machine - but YMMV.
With battery usage, I personally prefer swapping because if I get low, I don't have to handicap my usage by lowering brightness or turning off autosync, etc. Not only that, but if i DID need to charge, i can just hand the battery charger to the bartender or use a battery pack while leaving it my coat pocket - no longer am I tethered to the wall or do I risk leaving my phone somewhere to charge.
But on the other hand, some people like the idea of having marthon-level battery life so that there is no fear in the first place.
In terms of day-to-day usage, you'll just have to weigh battery longevity with Sony against swapping to a fresh battery with LG. Both use cases have their merits and pros/cons, so it'll be up to you to determine which fits your usage.
Maybe check out this.

Type Machine is a godsend for those accidents …
Doesn't necessarily answer the question, but it sounds like you could use this. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=fi.rojekti.typemachine
I swear by it.
