Because Apple wont allow it. Read this for more information, but basically, any open sourced license similar-to or based-on GPL will be pulled from the App Store because they conflict with Apple's own licensing.
Still a bit more work to get this baby polished. I know that the iOS updates have been lagging, so I wanted to share what's taking so damn long. I've been working on improving the comment entry on both iOS versions - especially after the lessons learned in developing for the Mac.
One of the biggest short-comings of ABHD is its lackluster comment entry. So I've put some work in to make this a far better experience. In subreddits that use graphic tags (like 7f12u, AdviceAnimals etc.), you will be able to scroll and tap the image to insert it into your comment.
I'm also developing support for primitive markup (like Bold, Italic etc.), but will likely roll that out in a subsequent update. I'm looking to seed this for testing over the next couple of days, and I hope you find it far more pleasant than the old way. :)
Also, if any iOS devs like the look of those tab/toolbar views - I rolled up the source code here in an easy to use library so that you can drop them into your own projects.
It's called quoting and is shown in this short formatting tutorial

3 things stand out from this page:
I really hope those features can be used in an app that's otherwise iOS 7-compatible, for the sake of us iPhone 4 owners. :)
(I don't remember what, but after at least one previous major-version iOS upgrade I saw a lot of apps updated that would still run on iOS _ but would use new features from iOS _+1 if that's what was running.)
Working on an 8 must be nice. I sadly lost it after installing one of the iOS 11 updates. I use Apollo now, which works well enough for the most part, but I do still miss AB. :(
First, be sure you aren't sorting by new or something. If you are sorting by best or top, and all comments are +1, it's because the subreddit hides scores for a period of time.
its this program that changes the colors of the screen throughout the day. It doesn't necessarily change the brightness; it adjusts the amount of RGB there is making it easier to see during late night browsing. Here is the link to the website and this video will do a better job explaining it than I did I think.
andrewroycarter has it absolutely right. You just set the "separatorStyle" of the tableView. The way I did the vertical thread lines in the comments is that every cell is responsible for drawing it's slice of the thread lines.
So a single cell would draw something like this:
| | | | Lorem ipsum dolor...
Those vertical lines then all line up together from each row, and it gives the thread lines a continuous appearance.
Here's the code that draws the thread lines for each level. You just call this from your drawRect.
Sync for Reddit is the best Reddit app on any platform by far, in terms of both looks and user experience. Easily matches alien blue and surpasses it in some areas like better spoilers support.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.laurencedawson.reddit_sync
It's designed for ensuring that no one has intercepted since the server encrypted the traffic... But.. There are boxes that intercept: http://www.zdnet.com/article/how-the-nsa-and-your-boss-can-intercept-and-break-ssl/ for an example article
3rd-Party Android apps show gold no problem.
Source: Reddit Sync...just about better than Alien Blue. (I use iOS on a daily basis, but my tablet is Android)
I don't know of any other app for iOS that saves gifs and videos, but I do know that if you jailbreak your iPhone you can download AlienBlue++ which will do what you need. AlienBlue++ Cydia Link: http://cydia.saurik.com/package/com.unlimapps.abplus/
Thats a real shame! Alien blue Dev is completely on the ball, as is his iphone app. By the time this guy gets "R I F" working, on a Galaxy S at least, Reddit may actually have realised the market in Android - and built something that works perfectly, after all, they'll need to generate an income someday!
A "committed" developer means nothing - Alien Blue would do wise to remove all his eggs from the one basket..
And get porting his brilliant app to Android!
Technically, Orangered doesn't deliver true push notifications. It basically works using background refresh, which is what Alien Blue is currently doing. The main downsides, as you probably already experienced, are decreased reliability and battery life. This is especially a problem if you set Orangered to a low polling interval (high frequency).
The current alternatives for true inbox push notifications for non-jailbroken devices are IFTT/Boxcar and [Notifications for reddit](/r/NotificationsApp). I've lumped IFTT and Boxcar into a single alternative because they both use the same backend service (Superfeedr) to check for new inbox items. Superfeedr is alright, but notifications can be delayed up to 15 minutes. IFTT and Boxcar also require you to do some atypical setup work – namely enabling and supplying your personal messages feed URL to them. Once given, the only way to revoke access to your feed is to change your reddit password.
I won't say much about Notifications for reddit because it's something I've been recently developing and that makes me biased for obvious reasons. I've also declined to link directly to the signup site, as that'd be a bit scummy. It does the same thing as IFTT and Boxcar, except it delivers real-time true push notifications and directly integrates with iOS reddit clients. I really hope to support Alien Blue on release, but that depends on if URL schemes (and parameters) get implemented or not.
Hope that answers your questions and gives you some things to explore. Cheers!
R.E.S. is good, but I'm looking for a client. Something that's a lot more clean and easier to look at than Reddit in the browser. Something like this (I found it after making this self.post).
It has to do with the way people interact with Reddit.. some are occasional users and are happy with the way the standard website is.. and the standard Reddit app.. and that’s fine
Others wish they had more options, shortcuts, and a different overall look and feel of it so the use plugins and/or different apps.
Here’s the link for RES Incase you’re interested https://redditenhancementsuite.com
I think a similar comparison would be how people interact with Twitter.
You can find more useful tips over in /r/alienblue101
>And if I did, it wouldn't be through imgur, would it?
Yeah, it'd be uploaded to imgur, just like if you were making a post.
I'm all about some f.lux! I don't have a mac (but know someone who does) and I can't jailbreak on 9.1, iPad 2. Check out the following post on the f.lux forum (don't spam the forum, it started getting spammed with Chinese / Indian people soon after I posted about the forum on reddit)
https://justgetflux.com/forum/topic/1209/8 they're about way more than just the program!
>Currently, iOS does not allow developers to access the Private APIs we need to make f.lux work on iOS.
I'm talking about the reasoning against a general app release as opposed to the side loaded app via Xcode.
Ah, this makes 100% sense, thank you for taking the time to explain. Now that you mention I do recollect the Reddit purchase and having to update the app through another developer.
Well, OP, in that case you have two options:
Disclaimer: Assuming this is a free application, I'm assuming moderators will not have an issue with a download being provided directly. If so, feel free to delete the link.
I do wish a comparable alternative client existed on iOS. Competition's done absolute wonders on Android- going from dreck like Diode to reddit sync in a few years wouldn't have happened if there wasn't a serious market there, rather than just one client grabbing the whole userbase from the get-go.
amrc, Aliens and Baconreader's iOS port all can't hold a candle to AB. It's unfortunate.
This behavior is probably caused by the same bug that was found a few months ago in iOS 7 rounded rectangles implementation:
> iOS 7 rounded rectangles are buggy. > > Unfortunately, there are parameters for which the shapes generated by bezierPathWithRoundedRect:cornerRadius: are obviously wrong.

iSub is an App that allows you to stream music from a server. I have a server setup through these guys. Basically I have about 2TB of music on a computer in my living room, using subsonic allows me to stream it over the web or through mobile devices. The only thing that has cost me anything so far is the iSub app itself was like $4 (best $4 App I've bought yet). Subsonic is free and you just need to be a bit tech savy to set it up. I share this server with about 15 close friends and we all use it constantly. The 1.5GB is a cacheing option through iSub so that you can play music even when you don't have service (planes, etc).
AVFoundation has been around since iOS 4. I doubted you could prevent pausing music but it does look like you can avoid that.
This might get you close.
Just lots of little things. Options for auto night mode so the theme is white in the day and turns black at night. Multiple views to choose from whether you like lists, small thumbnails, or big images. Easy access to subreddits with a swipe in sidebar and overall just intuitive and easy to use.
Best of all, it adds all these features while still looking minimal and clean. A lot of reddit apps on iOS trade the looks for functions, which is why people still stuck to alien blue.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, it has waaaay better spoiler support than Alien Blue. Perfect for GoT and other TV shows.

I have tested all Reddit clients on Android and the one I like the most so far is Sync for Reddit.
There is a free limited version and a paid one. I didn't mind paying since it works so well. What I really like about this app is the ability to navigate with a swipe back (like iOS or AB) which is not a thing on Android.
