I have this same exact model and configuration. Only difference is mine is black. That’s literally it. Specs are the same exactly.
A few things:
Fuck that’s a long link.
When you’re done using it, shut it down. All the way. Don’t put it to sleep. Shut it down. Oy vey.
I can’t think of anything else right now but if I do, I’ll add to this. Enjoy your new machine. It’s a bucking feast.
I really prefer my hand to be rare, not cooked to well done. I did lower the temp by reducing the graphics gpu to 90%, lowered it about 10°. I also bought this at Amazon. cooling pad
I almost fell out of my chair when I found this on Amazon! If you're interested you should probably snag this before it's too late - I'm sure Alienware has the design and likeness of the Area-51 protected by a trademark and could shut down this product if they a) found out about it and b) weren't getting royalty payments

Just wanted to share this with everyone as it's about the best looking USB-C hub out there and it's a perfect match for Alienware fans.

The 480GB model is also on sale for $93. Fantastic upgrade, significantly faster than any SSD Alienware ships in their systems.
Have not really tested how effective this cooling pad is on my X17 but it seems to do a great job at certainly keeping my lap cool if I decide to game with it resting at an angle on my legs. I'm planning on getting the Alienware 38 ultra wide monitor also for it. Really enjoying the laptop playing Half life Alyx on Quest 2.. Have not played a game in years on my macs which is why I changed over to Windows again..
BTW the cooling pad I have is thus one.
KLIM™ Ultimate + Laptop Cooling Stand with RGB backlighting + 11" - 17" + Gaming Laptop Cooling Pad For Desk + New 2021 + USB Powered Fan + Very Stable And Silent + Compatible Mac And PS4 https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07NNQXTQT/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_2D15EKV75CG7RZBHDFBJ
Love the RGB lights on this cooling pad also. It has one 200mm fan.
It was $250 at BestBuy/eBay a few days ago, I would wait for the price to drop.
https://slickdeals.net/share/android_app/fp/405907
I'm also interested in this monitor, but I'm hoping the Gsync version drops back to around $300. Or if Alienware puts out a 1440p 120hz+ IPS monitor for ~$400, I'd definitely go for that. If that giant 34 inch one gets a little cheaper, please pray for my wallet.
Hi i a have a15r2.
Its a 15.6 inch, quite hefty but managable. If u get a nice backpack for it than no problem.
Battery life 4 to 5 1/2 hours. Depends on usage.
Very awesome. Its my main system. Gaming, programming, multimedia and editing. Also have a second monitor connected to it. Also have the ability to purchase a Graphics amp in future.
Go for Gtx970m. Its the best for full hd and good performance. I have it and it runs cs go around 300fps super smooth. Gta 5 ultra no problem. Don't suggest getting the 980m though since its a 300$+ more pay which can be used later in 3-4 years to get a graphics amp.
Some tips when buying. I bought the 8gb, 970m & 1tb hdd option. You can save some money buy upgrading to 16gb and a 500gb ssd (samsung 850 pro) rather than buying it already preconfigured. BUT it all depends on the region u are in and i would suggest to count the prices all up.
Some acessories: A pouch i bought for it. There is a alienware design too and i bought the 17inch one which is alittle bit bigger but i was afraid the 15" one wont fit. (design 420)

Just use a cloning software and do it yourself.
If system is working fine, you don't want to send it back and get something new screwed in return.
You may use Macrium Reflect 7, if you want. https://www.macrium.com/reflectfree
Following tutorial to help you.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ufaX_d8o1ZM
Once cloning is done, don't forget to select your SSD as your boot drive in your BIOS setup.
Call tech support and let them do migration for you, only if you think you can't do it by your own.
But, if you have got a new system that is working fine otherwise, there is a risk that you get new issues once you receive it back from service center.
Using hard drives/ssds the way you want doesn't void your warranty.
BTW, if anyone needs a burner email account to get the file then check out this service. Maybe everyone else knows about this kind of service but I just discovered it and it will be one of those on-line life changing things:
Basically you open up the page and get a temporary email just to get stuff like this. You keep the web page open and any reply shows up right on the web page. It's really awesome.
People always say that. I play mostly on my Desktop PC with this monitor
I can def tell the difference between that and my other 2k monitor. I understand the 17inch 4k standpoint, but textures and outer lines on assets I still think look better in 4k. I have a 240hz 1080p monitor that I use on Valorant. But single player games I couldn't go back from 4k.
The mouse keyboard combo is this one:
The speaker is a cheap one I bought off Amazon. I have an Astro A50 that I use 99% of the time, but if I just want to relax from headphone I use the speaker. This is it: Soulion R30 Computer Speakers, USB Powered Small PC Speakers, Colorful RGB Lights with Switch Button, Surround Sound Portable Computer Sound Bar Speaker for Desktop Laptop https://www.amazon.com/dp/B085HZPNRJ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_2J3ZY4SW8AF0D2SXQWVA?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I should add that even though the speaker is cheap, I think the sound is really damn good, though I’m not an audio guru.
If you mean this one, I had to cut this to make it fit: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08LT8R63T?psc=1&ref=ppx_yo2_dt_b_product_details

It still worked, just wanted you to be aware.

And yeah I got the 1TB model and the Micron one isn't amazing but still IMO enough so I don't think I'm going to swap my OS.
I use this cleaning putty all the time to remove dust from keyboard, Alienware PC, speaker grills, works great and does not fall apart or get stuck.

Are you planning on keeping your current 1 TB 3.5" in the x51 along with the other two 2.5" drives? This will have you at capacity as there are only 3 SATA ports on the x51 motherboard, you won't be able to use the CD drive. The best answer I can give you on that is to find an adapter that'll slide into the 3.5" bay that allows for a 2.5" drive to be held in its place (something like this which actually supports two 2.5" drives in place of one 3.5" drive. Keep in mind I can't confirm if this works, just a suggestion!) Another choice would be that you could mount the 2.5" drives on the existing 3.5" HDD or somewhere else in the case. The problem you run into is that there isn't a lot of space and the case is hot, so keep that in mind before making any firm decisions.
You might can try to get a 330w PSU from eBay in your country or ordering straight from Dell. The part numbers you should search for are: Y90RR / 5X3NX / F0K0N / XM3C3 / 331-2429. Keep in mind the 330w PSU can be listed as an M18x laptop charger, but as long as you can confirm one of the part numbers above you should be good. I could be wrong, but I think you can sometimes buy from a different country's Amazon store and get it shipped internationally, so you might want to check into that as the US Amazon store has the 330w PSU listed.
The problem with CPU coolers in the x51 is that there is a cup that sits on top of the cooler which angles the air out of the case so your case doesn't get hot. I'm sure it'll function fine with a good enough cooler but you might not see much lower temps without it (in theory). This thread on the Dell website seems to have a lot of good information that might help you out.
Not the best looking but it works, I picked it up. Based off a video posted here and the guy fit the 17 in it with no issue. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01ECFQ9D0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Ive read a lot of the 17" wont fit so if you buy from somewhere like Amazon you have to buy an 18" which are not as plentiful.
These are my thoughts:
- Do you have a machine that works for you right now? If you do, I'd be really tempted to wait a month or two to order, for them to get the issues worked out manufacturing the 15". Just my 2 cents, I realize it's annoying advice lol.
- I was going to say you don't need to pay extra for the processor, but then I realized it's i5 to i7, I can see doing that.
- Memory is good, 16gb is the "never need to upgrade" point.
- I've had 2 drives before, and I HATE it. Every time I run across a config like that it's a constant pain in the ass. One of the drives always gets filled up, or I reinstall the software and it loses track of the second drive (happened on my dad's computer), etc. I will never do that again. I ordered the cheapest base drive, and a 1gb sandisk for $250 from amazon -
https://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Ultra-2-5-Inch-Height-SDSSDHII-960G-G25/dp/B00M8ABHVQ/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc
On the screen size, lol that sounds fine with me. Personally, I debated between 15" and 17". I don't really find a "real" difference in portability, I've been using a 17" for several years now. It's mostly just that the 15" looks cooler when I'm using it, the 17" looks a little big to use and carry around. I couldn't convince myself I wouldn't miss the screen size though, and I wanted to be able to use it in as wide a variety of situations as possible, so I went with the 17".
Also went with the 4k display, but I won't argue that one. :D
These results are for the R2 (because Dell hasn't updated their support site to include the R3), but the chargers are the same.
The 15" with the GTX 1060 came stock with the 180W charger, the 15" with the GTX 1070 or 1080 comes with the 240W. Either one will work for you.
http://www.dell.com/en-us/shop/pfydresults/242653/?categoryId=2999
But of course, Dell overcharges. On amazon, search for "Dell 180w" or "Dell 240w" and find one with good reviews. The charging "tip" and voltages are standard across all Dell computers made since like 2002, so that's all gravy. I personally like this one: https://www.amazon.com/adapter-Dell-Precision-M4800-Serie/dp/B00KD1G3N4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1500585416&sr=8-1&keywords=dell+180w
Unfortunately, the big companies have stopped producing the 7200 rpm variants in large sizes in favor of making ssds. A quick Amazon search gave me one for $300. I suspect most in production were made pre-2013 so they’re a dwindling and expensive stock. I get that you don’t want an SSD but what you’re asking for is going to be pretty pricey if you don’t compromise. There are a bunch of Amazon hdds with >2TB for laptops under even $100 but they’re all 5400 rpm.
Rather unfortunately, the Alienware 15 is too big for some 15.6 inch bags, because of the protruding back exhausts. You will have to look for 16-17.3 inch bags. 16 inch is more comfortable.
The closest that I found based on your needs is this on Amazon (US) https://www.amazon.com/Case-Logic-LAPS-116-15-16-Inch/dp/B004NY9UXM
This is all that I can find. Comes in Purple and red like you said. I’m pretty sure that someone will suggests something better than this case, but I’ll try to help.
First reviewer says they have a 960 evo working in it at full speed.
That one too plenty of reviewers stating they are using it with a 960 evo and it was the first amazon link to come up when I google searched 'nvme pcie adapter'.
So, I have to ask again any links pointing to the supposed issues? Because without the full picture I'm not sure why there would be any issues.
I was looking for a new sleeve for the Area 51M, and I was worried I wouldn't find any good options because of its size. I was quite wrong, and grabbed this sucker on Amazon for a little over $20. It works great, and isn't a crazy tight fit. Here's the link: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B079HYKPCW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This Thermaltake cooling pad made my 17R4 look tiny, I have no doubt the A51 can fit on there!
Windows defender is enough, only if you have common sense. But if you want to visit adult rated sites then I suggest getting a good antivirus. I got 2. Bitdefender because it’s low impact on my device and malware bytes. Double protection. I care about my device.
Google Documents is a good alternative to Microsoft’s office if you don’t want to pay. Or libre office.
ExpressVPN for anonymity and Qtorrents
iTunes for my iPhone
Dash lane password manager. It’s up to 50 passwords if you get the free version, and that’s more than enough for me. Keepass is free for windows and got unlimited codes
Of course gaming apps, what’s a gaming laptop without games or photoshops like adobe.
I7 3920xm has a single thread of 2011 and multi thread of 9224 and thats without overclocking.

We won't really know without specs although possibly on lower settings? If you have the R2 then I presume you have the last generation with SLI GPU's in it? You might be ok on low settings although you won't be playable on high. You can try http://www.systemrequirementslab.com/cyri for a rough idea but that is not a sure fire answer either.
It's been done. Check out: /r/hackintosh
and more importantly http://www.tonymacx86.com/laptop-compatibility/167396-hackintosh-dell-alienware-15-inch.html
Tonymacx86 is THE hackintosh website.
AFAIK as long as it's a legitimate dell psu, any dell laptop or even the pc's that use power brick psu's will work. The next 'issue' then becomes what is the minimum wattage for your laptop/pc. Providing you meet both requirements, you're set. There is only 1 thing online that i have found as a work around. It's quite involved though, so I've not bothered and i doubt others would either. Here is a link for interests sake: http://hackaday.com/2014/03/03/hacking-dell-laptop-charger-identification/
I don't recommend using Windows on any LCD unless it's glass covered (as Windex can ruin LCD screens). You're much better off using a basic cloth with plain water, and wiping down the screen. Also, if you have a can of compressed air, use that.
For wiping the laptop hard drive use a program like BC Wipe that can clear out all free space to DOD level 7 wipe standards (making sure somebody can't restore deleted files).
http://download.cnet.com/BCWipe/3000-2144_4-10009333.html
Let it run over night and you're good to go.
If you sell on eBay, be sure to document the entire process. Before you send out the laptop take pictures of the laptop from top and bottom, all four corners, opened and closed. Also, ask someone you know to film you packing the laptop and preparing the box, taping it closed (preferably at the place you're going to ship it out of).
This way, in the exceptionally rare instance somebody decides to scam you, you can provide video evidence that A) the laptop was in the condition you sold it in and B) you have video evidence of packaging the laptop and shipping it out at the store. This will give Paypal or any online vendor evidence that you did due diligence and sent out the item.
Warning. My one is absolutely terrible. See pictures here: https://photos.google.com/share/AF1QipNF0YU3ZzrK3yiHeiB8fR7aG9wLuxXpeunO5aTVUJ8wJ__bBR2-0NnHBx365Om9jw?key=blo0V3VORURCcUYxaHM5Tzh4dTR5ZnNoajhCamlB
I would avoid and get the TN panel
From the information I found it looks like it originally came with a 120w - 130w charger, so any multi-tip/purpose charger should work.

ummmmmmm.......mine is fine since 2012 on a m17xr4 beast.....i suggest using http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/System-Tweak/Logon-Screen-Tweaker.shtml been using it for years, can use whatever image you want and you dont have to mess with any files and can be changed back to win 7 basic anytime. Now if you want the original alienware logon screen that ships with your unit, simply google it...i had to get a replacement for mine when i first messed with the win files. thats why i use logon screen tweaker.
This seems to be a minor bug with Windows 10. I kept getting the same thing, but I updated my drivers and now it hasn't happened for a while.
Check this link: http://www.drivethelife.com/windows-drivers/how-to-fix-display-driver-stopped-responding-and-has-recovered-on-windows-10-8-7-xp-vista.html
I've got the 256GB SSD and have no complaints.
The 1TB hard drive is pretty sluggish though. I use PrimoCache (http://www.romexsoftware.com/en-us/primo-cache/index.html) on my AW15 to cache my spinning drive on my SSD and the performance has been greatly improved across the board... particularly when I often play the same game (which I do).
Congrats on your find though... I've been really happy with my AW15.
Use GPU-Z to determine your vBIOS version: https://www.techpowerup.com/gpuz/ I'm on the old vBIOS now and it says 86.04.54.00.0A
A new one can be downloaded at the Dell's support or here: http://downloads.dell.com/published/pages/alienware-17-laptop.html and new vBIOS version is 86.04.5B.00.8F.
I Use HWiNFO64 on my 15 R3, install it and on the first run make sure Sensors-Only is ticked, once it loads click the fan icon on the bottom left corner, then set the RPM you want it to stay at, then click Set Manual, if you want it to go back to auto just click System Auto. https://www.hwinfo.com/download.php
You should update to the latest BIOS. You can check temps with HWinfo monitors or even with MSI Afterburner. We don't ship with bloatware, not that I'm aware of anything changing either. Got some kabylake systems yesterday and there was no bloatware.
BIOS: http://downloads.dell.com/FOLDER04110935M/1/Alienware_15R3_17R4_S1.0.9_K1.0.1.exe
I'd monitor Temps and wear with HWInfo https://www.hwinfo.com Great tool.
Mine came with 5% wear out of box and degraded (or increased) with each charge. Resulting in 13% in around 2 weeks. This is just not on.
Keep an eye on it over the next few weeks. It could well stabilise as they do come tested so wear will be evident.
Just as an FYI for the future. The Microsoft website has a downloadable app that checks compatibility for your PC, scroll to the bottom:
https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compare
I use Enterprise because I'm a tech guy and hate having the store etc pushed on me. Get that junk off. Just give me a start button and some sweet sweet hyper-v please.
:D
In my opinion, don't update anything except graphics drivers and Windows security updates.
Other than that, get yourself a decent browser, i'm sure you'll be on Safari so that's not a problem. Consider using Adblock and white listing your favourite sites, this can stop pop ups or clicking on the incorrect "download now" link which some sites love to put on.
Some useful tools:
Share X - This lets you send screenshots quickly & easily... even gifs!
Borderless Gaming - "Fullscreen" any-game you play
If you must use Windows - you only really need Professional if any of the following are true:
So unless you know what most of those mean - home is probably fine.
See https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compare for a high level compare.
I used Macrium Reflect (free) which is a great UI for resizing, and modifying the partitions to swap volumes between drives. https://www.macrium.com/reflectfree
Moved a 128 GB SSD -> 1 TB SSD upgrade Moved a 1 TB HDD -> 2 TB SSHD
among others.
There is some danger (including one that forced a reinstall on my part, and one where I accidentally deleted my partition table), so make sure you do your research and make appropriate backups before you go ahead.
Yes the crucial should work. With mine, The BIOS did find the profile. And when I enabled it. It booted up but wasn’t stable. It kept giving BSOD.
So that’s when I replaced it with a second set, and it was the same behavior.
The third set:
TEAMGROUP T-Force Zeus DDR4 SODIMM 32GB (2x16GB) 3200MHz (PC4-25600) 260 Pin CL16 Laptop Memory Module Ram - TTZD432G3200HC16FDC-S01 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08W224DXL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_B9SW2BZ8P28526G0SPRZ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Which is the same timings. I figured it was crucial. But I received it today and after I changed to XMP profile, it won’t even Post after the profile change in the bios. I tried clearing it via usual methods and I couldn’t get the BIOS to reset. So now I’m getting a MOBO replacement.
After extensive search and use, I came to the conclusion to always use a protective sleeve, inside the backpack or whatever. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B083N9VFM8/ This one fits most requirements I have for a 15" laptop; 360° protection, water resistance, inner felt and double layer outer cover, etc. Fit would be a bit snug for the M15... I am yet to try it, but is the best candidate so far. Don't know if there are units for 17" though.
currently out of stock but this link will show you what it looks like and provide the part number.
If you call Dell customer service and can connect with a rep that is willing to make it happen they are selling them for about $12 with free shipping.
I watched a few comprehensive reviews regarding cooling pads and they provide little to no benefit to modern laptops. So I ended up just buying this Steklo Laptop Stand Adjustable... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00VIZ60QY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I got this for my X15: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07XD8M43P
And it works fine. The copper plate and thermal pad is secured to the drive using two rubber bands, one on each end.
Dell sells proprietary ram. You cannot get it aftermarket except eBay out of another Alienware. What I did was bought these https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B083TSH22R/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and sold my Dell OEM ram on eBay to cover most of the price of the upgrade. The R10 is very particular about what frequency and model of ram you put in the aftermarket. Some googling should give you an idea of what works and what does not.
There can be a big difference for undervolted GPU. For 1950mhz on 0.931V, when GPU usage is at 100%, the difference is small as without undervolting, the GPU core would be around the same clock with just very small higher voltage. But when GPU usage isn’t at 100% it can make a big difference. For example, I limit my highest frame rate to 165fps to match my monitor refresh rate but GPU doesn’t need 100% usage to produce that many FPS, if you use the default boost table, GPU will boost over 2025mhz clock and maintain the 320W power draw. With the undervolt, GPU will not boost clock that high and only draw 260W power for that clock. Less power = less heat.
Repasting GPU may or may not give you a better performance. It all depends on how the paste was done in the factory. Provide thermal paste on the vram can give you great result on reducing vram temperature. Dell’s 3000 cards, the heatsink isn’t touching the vram that’s a pretty big design flaw. You can search there’s a ton of topic on that on this subreddit.
I haven’t done repasting yet as I’m looking to swap case and water cool cpu and GPU in the near future with this 3080 water block for reference card .
Fear not Bro.
I got you.

I use there heat sink for the R11, the one in the link is for the R10.
Found this on another thread, perhaps it will work?
Heck if it doesn't work send it back. Amazon is good on returns.

It's a steal for the price.
honestly i dont know what the difference is.
i bought this one:
https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07C5VG64V
take that with a grain of salt though - i heard that r11/r12 favor corsair ml120pro.
I did the standard PWM fans with no issues. Top fans for the radiator adjust speeds, the front fan is locked at I think 27% but that’s apparently a standard thing with the AW BIOS or setting. Looked into it to try and adjust it and couldn’t find anything to let me ramp it up further. Have had zero cooling issues though so leaving well enough alone I guess.
These are the ones I ordered:

I have the exact fans listed in the PSA I posted a week or so ago. They’re noctuas and they’re low profile. I use a y connector (the noctuas come with some, but I used longer ones) connected to my top fan header. The temps are a little lower but a ton of heat is removed as measured by my feet.

Commenting just to follow.
I now have the ram I've selected, but not the R10!!!
Look out for a difference in board/bios? between early 2020 Ryzen R10s and 2021 5xxx series.
Seems there is a difference and this may have an impact on reading older recommendation reviews etc.
Will be interested to hear what others have gone with, but after discussions with others I've opted for the below and just bloody hope it works when/(if?!) the R10 does arrive:

The current one in my m15 R4: Sabrent Rocket Q 2TB NVMe PCIe M.2 2280 Internal SSD High Performance Solid State Drive R/W 3200/2900MB/s (SB-RKTQ-2TB) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0829DZH2W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_843V3DHZ8773EYP6237Q?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
The fastest storage would be M.2 NVMe in a x4 PCIe adapter. Something like this . The Alienware PCIe bus does not support bifurcation . . . so you can only have one M.2 NVMe SSD in the adapter. They do sell adapters that have controllers, so that more than one SSD can be used . . . but they are much more expensive. Make sure your SSD is M-key, something like this . . . but you can get them cheaper.
Looks like if you have a modern 5000 series ryzen R10 then your best bet is with the HyperX Fury Black 32GB 3466MHz DDR4 CL17 DIMM HX434C17FB4K2/32
The Crucial ones have worked for previous versions but the latest R10 ryzen 5000 series is more compatible with the above, which could explain the issue you're seeing.
Looks like you would need an active (powered) converter like this, but although that item description says 4k it doesn't have enough bandwidth for a good refresh rate for gaming. There probably is something that works but it might be expensive.

eBay has it too… If Amazon US won’t ship it to UK, the eBay seller might. It’s a difference of 2$US. Amazon is cheaper.

Good luck on the order. Got mine from eBay before I saw the Amazon link. 🤦♂️🤷♂️
Consider adding a second 1TB M.2 NVMe SSD in a PCIe slot with an adapter like this
My suggestion would be to go on to amazon and look for drives.
Any 3.5" hard drive would work in the R7.
I would recommend something with at LEAST 7200 rpm drive if you can't afford an SSD.
You have to flash the chip itself with a special tool on another computer with windows. I used a MacBook Pro running Bootcamp and it worked perfect. See 2nd pic. Here's the tool: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07R8S8V4H/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I like those old Auroras so best of luck!
I would recommend getting a copper heatsink. I have a pair of these for my drives: icepc M.2 PCI-E NVME 2280 SSD Graphene Coating Copper Heatsink,High Performance SSD Radiator with Thermal Pad for Laptop PC 2280 NGFF Solid State Disk Cooler(70x20x2mm) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B083FJTXNV/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_BDkaGbB9CZS3J?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Unfortunately it seems as though they’re unavailable at the moment but the dimensions listed should help you find a good alternative. I wouldn’t go thicker than 2mm to avoid clearance issues.
If I where you I would get an electric blower. It's cheaper than getting cans of air all the time and comes in handy even around the house.

I got this one when it was on sale for $39.00

Hello u/Beechy13, it appears you tried to put a link in a title, since most users cant click these I have placed it here for you
^I ^am ^a ^bot ^if ^you ^have ^any ^suggestions ^dm ^me
I got a really solid and durable backpack off of Amazon a year or two ago for the purpose of carrying my 17 while I went to grad school. It's a Fjallraven Rucksack. It wasn't cheap, but the quality is amazing. It feels so sturdy and I rarely worry about my laptop when I'm carrying it.
Don't bother with the 16 GB ram or the 512 GB SSD. It's much cheaper to add them in aftermarket. Dell charges you $100 extra to go from 8 to 16 gigs, but a 32 gig DDR4 kit @2400 mhz is only $140 from Amazon. A single 8 gig stick will set you back only $40.
I personally ordered the 6820HK/1070 stock config, and I'll be adding in ram and hard drive space later.
Yeah I did. We are huge Amazon shoppers, so after checking Crucial's page and Dell's page, I ordered this:
Ballistix Sport LT 32GB Kit (16GBx2) DDR4 2400 MT/s (PC4-19200) SODIMM 260-Pin Memory - BLS2K16G4S240FSD https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DGOF3E4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_gR7byb5ZB8BEH
My current laptop has 16GB and works fine for personal use, but my CAD programs use the entirety of the 16 so I wanted to bump it to 32 to speed up my workflow.
Phew, okay, i just wanted to make sure
It's really not something i can hear on my laptop unless i have my ear pressed against the keyboard or bottom of the laptop, so i'm not worried about it if it's normal!
I repasted mine with Thermal Grizzly right when i got it. I also bought these from amazon to give more room for cooling!
I got this one and it fits nicely: https://www.amazon.com/FreeBiz-Inches-Laptop-Backpack-Laptops/dp/B01ECFQ9D0/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1483021120&sr=8-2&keywords=freebiz
~$60 on Amazon
Get the newer intel 8265. It's $26 on Amazon link and free one day shipping (in my area anyways)
BIOS Version 1.0.9 Make sure you also downloaded the new BIOS that just released the other day LINK (Assuming you have the 17R4 as your title says, but you wrote 17R3 in comments)
Do you have any complaints about that cooling pad? I was looking at the one you have, but I'm always suspicious of the dimensions Amazon lists and wanna make sure I get a pad that fits a 15r3 perfectly. I was also looking at this one https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0051GK6RA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_yKcEyb088RXCX because it has vents off the front side, which would be perfect if I'm using it on my lap in bed (no need to worry about covering bottom vent)
Your power consumption will be absolutely fine. No worries there. Make sure your card is a blower/reference style and not open air for better temps.
I'd do trial and error. I don't do any overclocking so I can't speak on what would actually work or not. Take it in increments. Overclock it a little and run a benchmark. If the computer doesn't force shut off (a telltale sign of too much power consumption) you're good. Keep going until you either reach your intended overclock or you get shutoffs. If the computer ever force shuts off during a benchmark like that, do not leave your card clocked like that. You risk damaging your system.
I'm seeing that the 480 allows up to 6 monitors but you might see a drop in performance when adding more monitors. You can always plug one into the on-board graphics port (located at the very top of your x51's back panel) if you won't be using all 3 for widescreen gaming.
Here is a cable that should fit your needs (if you want to compare prices, there's a few different ones on Amazon. This was just the first result). It only supports up to 1920x1200 so if you need it for a different resolution I'd look elsewhere.
These are fast and will do well. You don't really need anywhere above 2666 RAM for the mobo/CPU combo that the 13 has:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BMMVNL4/
NVMe M.2 1 TB SSDs are ridiculously expensive- but I have this particular 1 TB SATA SSD, and it has boost software that can increase it's speed (check the amazon reviews.) I really love it, and would highly recommend:

This mode has no g-sync. Since I will be using it mostly for digital art I think it will be ok
Bought the latest Intel model off Amazon:
Intel Wifi Wireless-AC 8265 8265.NGWMG Dual Band 2x2 AC + BlueTooth M.2 Brown Box

I just wanted something reliable with a good driver, I've never had a great experience with any Killer NIC or Wifi hardware. My Razer Blade Pro had similar problems due to the killer hardware/drivers.
The cooling solution is more than adequate... when it works. The problem is the quality control stinks. So, if you have a problem, deal with it. If you don't, be happy that you don't.
Now, if you do have heat issues, and need to resolve it, Alienware provides you with all the documentation you need to do the job correctly. Go to the dell support site, look up your machine, and download the full users manual. It will tell you how to take that machine apart step by step. Read the manual, go to Amazon to get a couple plastic tools to help open the machine up. A kit like this is amazing for opening up electronics. That allows you to get between the plastic pieces without damaging them. Also get some new thermal paste, appropriate pads, and decent alcohol. I use this stuff here because it is a cheap, big ass bottle of 99.9% pure alcohol.
I would recommend the ebags professional slim. It houses my 15r3 with ease with an extra 3 inches on each side. Not only that but it has a lot of storage space, and organization pouches. It also has a mouse holder which I like. You can get it from Amazon, or directly from ebags.

Simple solution to connect a 2.5" SATA drive to USB (LINK Amazon)
I've used it clone, copy, and move data with no problems. Since you will most likely just be moving data from the HDD to your new system, what I've linked (or something similar) should be all you need.
As far as future backups, having a complete image (vs just backing up the data) can be a time saver during a restore. But backing up data (pictures, music, game saves ; ) is fine if you are limited on storage space. As alasdaivfr suggested, a 1-2 Tb drive should easily handle a data backup and Windows does have some ways to perform the task. Third party imaging solutions are available, like Macrium Reflect Free (and to get the free version you have to search for that) or EaseUS Todo Backup Free. Both are drive imaging and backup but not necessarily for individual file transfer.
Good Luck.
I sent you a PM but I'll post it here too. I just got a Socko 18.4" laptop bag and this thing is awesome. Has tons of space and could easily fit the laptop and all college supplies.
I swapped the PSU with an EVGA Supernova 750 G3, 80 Plus Gold 750W, Fully Modular from Amazon:

If you have any questions about the process let me know.
It seems to me like your WiFi card is getting old. Before we assume that the WiFi card is bad, try re enabling it in Device Manager or open up the computer and take out the WiFi card and put it back in. If those things don’t work, it looks like that your WiFi Card might be bad.
I found this on Amazon. It supports Bluetooth and 5GHz WiFi.
Basing off the specifications of the part, I’m going to assume that it is a half size module.
It is $11 USD for the cheapest replacement that I can find.

Ok you guys convinced me LOL! I got the Eluktroniks instead -

It comes with the 2080 Super as well for just a little more
The ones I ordered and how I placed them. They have two different heights so it works out great for me..
Does it cover the vents a little? Yes. But I recessed them inward so they wouldn't effect the fans.. This doesn't effect thermals on mine..
It is a 100x100mm VESA. So you won't have a hard time finding a wall mount for it. This is one example linked below. But as long as you find a 100x100mm you will be fine.
read speeds are showing up as 3389 mbs and write are 3,165 mbs using Crystal Disk Mark 8. I use a metal one, but I have often thought about this one.
8usd. You can check NordVPN on eBay. No monthly payments. I just bought it. They gave me the log in/password in about 24 hours. And I log in. Just promise to never change the password of the account
It’s better than paying 10usd a month for 12 months. Lol
Thiis is what i'm interested in.
