I’ve seen that stupid vest everywhere. On a fake service shitbull in my town grocery store just the other day. Totally fake, bought on amazon. It even comes with a bullshit pamphlet of service dog “rights” ... 50 of them so you can try to con your way out of anyone who questions you.

Ok a related subject: There’s a really fantastic podcast by the noted aggressive dog behaviorist Mike Shikashio and legendary shelter dog behavior expert Sue Sternberg that you should listen to. Basically, she talks about how the “no-kill” concept has been overly successful and nowadays it’s the normal, social dogs have become increasingly rare - all the best, friendliest and most-affectionate dogs are being sterilized while the most aggressive ones are allowed to breed freely, causing shelters to fill up with fighting stock bully breeds that should never be in homes with families or inexperienced owners.
She argues that there needs to be a way to produce more sociable puppies to meet the ever-growing demand. While she says that there are responsible breeders out there who are selecting for good temperament and health, they simply aren’t producing enough, so there needs to be a new, more humane method to make enough puppies that will grow to be friendly family dogs, as the good breeders are being out-competed by the terrible backyard breeders by far.
There’s also a fascinating talk at the beginning of the podcast by Shikashio and Sternberg about the behavior of street dogs in Mexico, and how surprisingly non-aggressive, friendly and content they were - often more so than the dogs that are encountered in the US.

Thank you. We have three other pitbulls that live on this street (not including the two pictured). I have this (don’t have my carry permit yet), gel pepper spray, and a hunting knife. All in a top drawer waiting to be used if needed
Carry a knife. Morikniv I have some of these and would make it a habit to wear it when ever you go outside.
This is the second time I’m linking this podcast in as many days, but you should definitely check it out. It’s by a famed dog trainer who works with aggressive dogs interviewing an expert on shelter dogs (who is pro-behavioral euthanasia). Basically, the first segment of the podcast is about a trip they took to Mexico, where they noticed that the street dogs were far less aggressive than the dogs they encountered in the US. It may be because street dogs interact with so many other dogs and animals on the daily that their aggression is tempered by frequent contact - if you’re a dog that’s stuck inside all day and only see other dogs and cats as well as unfamiliar humans once or twice a month then you’re probably going to freak out and attack when you do meet one; whereas if you see other animals and strangers all day, every day then it’s just another day to you. Also, the most aggressive street dogs are probably taken out of the gene pool by through natural selection - if you’re a dog whose first instinct is to attack then you probably aren’t going to live as long as a sociable one. Also, the more sociable street dogs are more likely to get fed, which also probably encourages less aggressive behavior.

Thanks for the recomendation. That's a pretty blade.
I went with this one- tons of people seem to recommend it. We shall see on Thursday I suppose.
This is the one I have. Haven't had to use it yet, but it looks very stabby-stabby. I carry it with me all the time, in my pocket. Fits nicely in your hand and has a good grip. Easy, spring-assisted blade that's just under 4". That would be good to puncture a lung or irreparably damage a jugular right up under the jaw.

I'm pretty sure it just uses capsaicin oil lol.
That said, we love spicy food. However, we have accidentally pepper sprayed the house when cooking with certain potent peppers. It really gets you when it's in the air. Uck. I can imagine the throat burn just thinking about it.
I don’t find them similar at all.
How old are you? It’s hard to be young and different.
So go off and don’t believe for a bit. See how that works for you?
I believe the truth will out. I just hope you’ll still have your face if you decide to cuddle some nanny dogs...but maybe it takes that for some people.
At any rate, best of luck to you..

Thanks for posting and asking OP. I see a few good suggestions on here.
I personally muzzle my dogs as well for certain situations. Vets, and groomer specifically because they are high stress environments. My dogs have never shown a sign of ever wanting to bite but I would rather just remove that potential from them. They actually do like the vet, the groomers not so much.
I mean honestly the vet and groomers, a lot of dogs are stressed and scared which makes other dogs stressed and scared. They can smell it in the air. I think more people should practice muzzling when they know they're in a risky environment, and I think muzzles should be disitgmatized.
I also second looking into getting a break stick just in case something does happen. It's the only way to unlatch a biting pitbull without injury. Oh and I use basket muzzles so they can still get treats and drink. I bought from Baskerville. I got this particular muzzle because worst case I could forsee is fear biting. However for a pit bull I would look into something more durable since they can be pretty adament when trying to attack.

The video says it has about roughly 9 discharges, and that competitors usually have about 3. The actual label claims 25 discharges.
It actually has about a 20-25 ft range, but for high accuracy it's about 10 ft. You can hold it down for as long as you need too, it doesn't have "set bursts" or anything like that.

The other advice is really for any job: do NOT do anything you think is dangerous, unsafe or you are not trained to do. I have seen too many people injured in construction doing things they were not trained for.

When a homeless Pitbull finds a Labrador Retriever mask the morning after Halloween, she wears it with hope of finding her forever family. This is her chance to find a home as America's #1 family dog! She'll finally be popular and loved! Or will she? Feeling forced to be someone she's not, she embarks on a path full of obstacles, surprises and life lessons. Will she ever be accepted for the kind and loyal friend she is without the facade? Will she not only find her forever home, but also herself?
>You should be aware that those two things are not the total answer.
Oh I know. I've seen the exact video you're referring to. While break sticks and pepper spray are not fool-proof, I have first-hand experience with using Fox Labs One Point Four to break up a fight between two pits when an off-leash male attacked mine. The fight was over as quickly as it began. I'd argue that, for the vast majority of dogs, it is a very effective deterrent, and will continue to carry it because I know how effective it is.
>You need a sub of pit owners that recognize the risks and are willing to talk about it. If it doesn't currently exist, you could be the one to set that up.
I created and moderate a sub that was designed for this - r/pitbullawareness
>Your flair is only going to hurt some people here. This sub includes people who've lost children and pets to pit bulls and who've been attacked by them.
Unfortunately I didn't choose this flair, it was auto-assigned to me. It used to just say "Pit owner", but I think that changed by the moderators at some point several months ago.
>There is no such thing as a good ambassador for the breed, except if they advocate breeding them out. (Pits aren't the only risky dogs - no pit hate coming from me. Other breeds, such as Dogo Argentino etc can be and are just as dangerous.)
I'd be 100% fine if pit bulls went extinct, and am in favor of laws that would require sterilization. As it's said so often on this sub, dogs that do not exist do not suffer.
The argument that they are trying to make, but seldom have the brainpower to describe in words, is:
1.) Pitbulls are disproportionately owned by by black people and maybe by hispanic people.
2.) White people can’t ban black people or hispanic people from your neighborhood
3.). If you ban the black person or hispanic person’s dog, you can keep them out of the neighborhood.
Most pit nuts don’t understand their own argument because they are just selfish and want to own killing machines, so they argue poorly. They repeat the accusation (racism) but don’t understand how it is supposed to be racist.
Additionally, pit nuts waffle between calling it a minority-owned breed and “America’s dog” or “An American Icon”. So what is it? The dog of repressed minorities? The all American dog? I don’t see how it can be both, but again, pitheads only care about endangering everyone else, the argument are just window dressing for their goal of owning a scary dog. Kinda how their dogs are harmless and wouldn’t hurt a fly, but also “protect” their owners and “make them feel safe”. Which one is it? Protector or incapable of doing harm?
You know how fake service dog handlers like to carry around cards saying how they can't be denied access? I might have these regulations put on a card and start handing those out.

I thought this book was rather good, but for the most part I've had to cobble what I understand about the topic from a lot of different sources. Unfortunately there's a lot of fluffy self-help that overlaps with this topic so it's hard to find information about it that isn't either motivational nonsense or too technical for a lay person (such as myself) to understand.

I have them in personalized placemats for my mini dachshund and my chihuahua’s food bowls, they’re gorgeous art and look great in the kitchen. When you're dealing with dangerous dogs surf of deployment is key. There's a front magnetic flap that keeps it from moving and puts it at a deep pocket carry position the back edge is slightly taller than the front for fast access even though it's low profile and it's lined in the inside due easy cleaning after use. Have you seen the bowling pin targets? ? Just practice on hitting smaller areas in different positions at will. Also some ranges have the feature of targets that rotate into position so you could practice your draw/acquisition/fire that way.
Baby gates are used here as well to keep dogs out of certain areas, but mostly they're allowed to roam free throughout the house. If there's a certain piece of furniture they're not allowed on we just train them so that they understand that that piece is off limits. Dogs usually sleep on regular dog beds or in dog bed houses like this one. We had one for our dog, and it didn't really take much for him to get used to it. We put one of his pillows inside and he took to it right away.
Honestly, locking your dog up in a crate is such a foreign concept to me. I didn't even know that was a thing until a few years ago when I stumbled across it on the internet.
I think it helps a lot - you can read the reviews here:
I'd advise considering the merits of children very carefully then.
May I recommend a pet rock?
I know what I’m getting every one for Christmas this year!
There are muzzles and there are muzzles.
Do your homework. If you're going to take that route, then you need to shell out for an expensive one.
There's a lot of pit owners running around with these floppy silicone looking things. That will not keep a pit from attacking. It won't even keep a pit from doing much of anything (look at the 1 star reviews).
Something like this would be more appropriate for a pit.
Bad owners. You know your dog is aggressive and/or bothers other people. Stop apologising and do something about it.
You might want to gift them this during the holiday season.
You can get bitter apple gel and dose any part the dog is messing with, but some dogs just don't bother. I recommend these reclosable diapers.. Then you put the pants cover things over the diaper.
I'm loading in Yuma AZ and got to this place at 930pm last night for a midnight appointment. It's 1045am and I'm still here. I'd take LA traffic over this, you roll slow for a bit but you're going to get somewhere. Sooner or later you'll get past the thick part and get to the speed limit.
Shelters lie, so you can't rely on anything they say.
Also, you may need to know for renters insurance, etc.
I hear your point, sir, but you see, I have just purchased a service dog vest on Amazon for $14.98 and thus your anti-pit dog racism has been neutralized. Check and mate.

> Free-ranging stafford attacks 4-month-old puppy on Ypres ramparts: "What if that dog attacks a child?"
Ypres A stray dog is causing problems on and around the Ypres ramparts. Last Friday, the 4-month-old puppy of Rachel D'Hulster (24) was attacked. Other victims also report that the same four-legged dog is causing trouble. Apparently, the owner is not aware of any wrongdoing. "And what if that dog attacks a child?"
"On Friday evening, a little before 6pm, my friend Gauthier and I went for a walk on the Fortifications with Tilly, our 4-month-old border collie," says Rachel. "At the Houten Paard we were suddenly attacked by an aggressive stray dog. The animal bit our puppy several times. It was a brown Stafford type dog, which was running loose." Rachel and her boyfriend were able to pull their dog up by its leash and thus save it from worse. "The owner of the stafford got angry when we approached him and just walked on. We didn't really dare do anything anymore."

I am a big fan of the bear/air horn. It doesn’t hurt animals or people, but it can be an unpleasant experience for the dog and it may think twice if you give a short air horn blast as the dog runs up to you.

Also, if this was indeed the owner, glad it was him and not some innocent kid. I hope more pits turn on their owners because apparently it's the only way pit nutters are going to learn and stop their BS pit propaganda and pushing these dogs onto innocent families just wanting to adopt a shelter dog.
I would strongly recommend avoiding those rescues that brings over dogs from other counties. There’s a great episode of a podcast by noted dog aggression expert Mike Shikashio and shelter dog expert and pro-euthanasia for aggressive dog advocate Sue Sternberg. At the very beginning of the podcast, the two talk about how they were in Mexico for an international dog behavior conference and there were a ton of stray dogs wandering around the town. But what was striking about these dogs was that they seemed remarkably sociable, entirely lacking in aggression, didn’t bark, behaved appropriately in terms of basic dog behavior with both humans and other animals, and generally seemed content with their lives. While a few had veterinary issues, these dogs seemed like they were living more fulfilling lives than dogs do in the United States. As these dogs encountered dozens of other dogs and animals on a daily basis, they were far less likely to be aggressive with one another.
Sternberg and Shikashio bring up how these dogs are likely happier than dogs living in the US who don’t get much exercise or are left on their own for the majority of the day; in fact, the rescues that are bringing dogs from places like Mexico, Turkey, Thailand, Vietnam, etcetera are being made to live in a situation that ends up causing them to suffer more than if they had been left alone. These dogs were semi to fully feral and putting them in a home environment is going to do nothing but cause them to be anxious. Basically, if you want to help those dogs then donate money to a local charity in that country to provide veterinary care or food and spay/neuter/release for them. Bringing them over here will just end up with a neurotic, miserable dog that was never meant to be a pet in the first place.
carry a knife, this is a good one. It's a dagger shape but because daggers are illegal in a lot of places, it has a false edge- only one side is sharpened instead of being a duel edged knife.
Get yourself a can of this.
Dremel makes a dog nail grinder that is fantastic. It’s also a functional as an actual tool as my boyfriend has switched out the pet nail attachment and used it to grind other stuff before.
I got this one, and I have no regrets. I tried a cheapo electric nail trimmer before getting this one, and it took way longer to get the job done, but I’m sure there are much better non-Dremel options out there too!
Oh wow… she totally looks like a pitbull. Shame on the rescue that misled you. As someone else said, I would start muzzle training her for when she’s out on walks, around strangers, at the vet etc. You should probably also acquire a break stick and keep it with you at all times. Kuntrona Pitbull Break Stick Professional Dog No Bite Sticks Toy for Training K9 Police German Shepherd Medium Large Dogs https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07FZMXFM7/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_6Y8AE81RYA3FEBWH33Y4?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I don't blame you for carrying something to use against a crazy dog attacking. I would however keep to a 3" or less blade with no lock as you will need "good reason" to legally carry anything either larger, or of any size if it has a locking blade. Unfortunately "for defence against an attacking animal" is not considered good reason in UK law, much the pity.
Still, a very sharp 3" slip-joint knife will absolutely be of great utility if God forbid you find yourself needing it. Of course if you have other ideas about what type of knife you want to carry more power to you, I don't have a problem with the concept.
You may of course already know of these knife laws but just in case you don't you could keep within the law if you wish and still have an effective tool. I would suggest an Victorinox Alox 2 folder with 2.5 inch blade like this for example. Legal to carry without having some specific "good reason".

Please read the opening pages of this book - because this could be the story you are about to step into: https://www.amazon.com/Pit-Bulls-Dummies-Caroline-Coile-ebook/dp/B08M4BCF77/
The writer originally advocated for pits. Then she adopted two pit bull puppies - one of them female. Just like you have done.
Read the section titled: "Why this book isn't sugarcoated". It's short. It's just beneath the introduction. It tells what happened after this cute little female pit bull grew up.
>We cannot even imagine that she can grow up into a dangerous dog. Can she?
Yes. It's a lottery. If you lose, you could lose a lot.
If it comes up you can suggest a break stick.
They're about $20-30 on amazon, but it sure will be cheaper than a surgery.
Also, Pitbulls for Dummies 2 might help. The author went through a horrific pitbull experience of her own that reshaped her thinking.
This may help curve their aggression at the fence by making it painful to carry on line that. Neighbor’s mix will freak out at the fence right outside my home office if he notices my dog is on that side of the fence. Startles me every time because it’s such an unhinged reaction to my dog just existing in her own yard.
I keep it’s battery fresh, cranked to max and pointed right at a crack in the fence he prefers to bark at. He’ll still start barking , but he stops pretty quickly.

I have Sabre gel pepper spray. I like that it comes with a little pouch that straps to your hand, but thankfully I've never had to use it so that's as far as my recommendation can go.
Yeah I really hate thinking of carrying another thing when walking, but I've realized some of my unleashed dog encounters have been with pit bulls and I'd like to have a plan in the event of the worst. The first recommendation for any dog attack seems to be giving them something to bite on so a baton makes sense.
A taser is different than a stun gun. There are some mixed stories about both, but so far I've seen many more positive accounts of stun guns working on pit pulls. Tasers can be deadly, which is why there's controversy about police using them, so I'm glad that the lesser option seems to be most effective in this case. If I'm going to get a weapon it might as well be something I'm comfortable using in different scenarios, and I really don't want to own a taser or gun. Though everything under the sun is allowed in my state; I could get a thousand assault weapons or even shudder a pit bull.
Oh I am so very sorry. I can’t imagine how awful that must have been for you both. I’m a little of over year into training my medical alert/mobility dog also, it’s an intensive endeavor and rewarding- but could be crushed in an instant over some selfish dog owner. I know it was hard to go through, but were you able to find out any info to report it? I’ve seen some people have asked an associate to get the license plate if you were understandably unable. It’s awful that we have to defend ourselves, but unfortunately we do. My purse is frankly an arsenal, but finding tools you are personally comfortable and safely using yourself is your choice. Find what works best for you! I keep this pepper gel in my treat pouch, it’s not an aerosol spray (they aren’t safe for indoor use and get everybody) the gel only affects what it lands on, it won’t get you or your dog.
