+1 for posting Sirlin. Playing to win is to competitive gaming what The Art of War is to leading troops into battle. Anyone who wants to be a top tier gamer should read that book. I read it over and over again when I was trying to be competitive in Street Fighter IV. It's how I learned to stop worrying and love the zoning game (TL for scrubs: fireball spam).
+1000 for mentioning Daigo Umehara. Less observant people call Daigo a mind reader. More observant people know that he wasn't guessing that you'd make that move. He's read your playstyle, knows how you'll react to certain stimuli, he's CERTAIN that poke he just threw out will bait out your favorite combo starter, and he's already started inputting the combo to punish you for whiffing it.
For those looking for the referenced articles in this week's episode:
Here's the NordVPN support article that walks you through it:
For Chinese, we are the lucky ones who can continue play our games behind the Great Firewall.
Sorry for the red ping, but that's the best we can get.
The situation is getting worse, every good VPN that can bring us green connection will always be banned by the GFW (maybe I should write government instead) in days, so we have to use Astrill which can't make our network faster but can save us from dropping again and again while playing, especially in the middle of Trials.
It's hell here.
And that's the real reason why we want to end the game as fast as possible, anything might happen in every mins, maybe the next second we will lose one teammate who is caught by the GFW.
GFW will cut you down as soon as it found you are using a VPN.
Depends on the VPN and your area, for example I'm in London and I'm currently using ExpressVPN (mainly because its good with netflix) but I have a connection like 10miles from me so my ping goes up from 20ms - 30ms. VPNs vary and they will all add some ping and reduce your download by some %.
I would recommend trying out Private Internet Access first, they are highly rated and I had great success however it didn't work for Netflix which the misses really wanted so I switch. There is some gaming VPNs, I used to use one way back and it actually improved my ping as the game i played was hosted in the west coast and I'm a UK player, however the VPN was had a host in the west coast too, meaning my connection to the VPN still had a high ping but the VPN connect to the server with a very long ping (150~ to 30~).
In terms of security against DDOS it should help a lot. Basically you route all your internet connection over HTTPS (secured) to the VPN and then the VPN talks to the internet, unless the person has enough power to DDOS the VPN you should be okay. I do believe there are ways around it and still being able to get your IP address but thats something very advance and I doubt the average DDOS would figure that out.
There is also r/vpnreviews/ and r/VPN/ which the question might be better suited towards.
Imo the default sticks for both consoles are just terrible, i use these https://www.amazon.com/CQCX-Xbox-One-360/dp/B00MMN7W9A/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1472656411&sr=8-2&keywords=kontrol+freek+cqcx
Buy a few from amazon then return the ones you dont want easy peasy.
Also a Plan C lighthouse runner. I firmly believe you can win a couple rounds simply because no one respects it (yet). By the time its 3-1 in heavy round its too late.
Although, unlike you I run it exclusively with a scout rifle, currently DIS-47. I don't feel like there's any engagement range I can't challenge with a Plan C / scout combo. The trick like any other weapon is to use Plan C in areas where it's going to excel. Keep enemies in claustrophobic situations, limit vert space, etc etc. It'll take a while before a new fusion player can legitimately run it in high level Trials but it is more than viable as an option.
I am not condoning playing games at work, but the issue may be the fact that your company may block UDP traffic for security reasons. Some VPNs (e.g. NordVPN) allow you to switch to TCP, which is generally slower but more like normal internet traffic.
I like it but not as much as increased control. It's definitely less elegant than better control, but it seems to be faster for short bursts. Here's a clip with catapult
Is it better than increased control? Maybe. I feel more comfortable with increased control. It's slower but not by much.
Here's one with increased control
Whoa, this explains so much. This means the damage/hp numbers for abilities from the Destiny Strategy Guide are indeed accurate. It correctly states that flame shield has a base hp value of 55 (I assume that's where that number originated) and they also give a base hp of 95 for Relentess+Force Barrier which, using this math, is consistent with the findings in this thread. In patch 1.0.1, HP was normalized to 200 so the 200/165 x base value = crucible value equation makes sense. Lots of unknown values are now clear to me.
Thanks so much for the detailed explanation!
Here's the raw link for people having trouble
Use Voidwall. Because you used Vortex, he was just able to walk out of it.
The way I read this table, the time-to-kill value is pretty bad on Grasp. Everyone is saying the ttk on this gun is excellent. So, what's going on?
This was not made by me! :
Found this on this subreddit a while ago. Good info. Not all is 100% accurate, as it is from the online databases, but it is a good starting point!
Bookmarked that link, so sorry, can't tell you who made it :(

This monitor is usually at the $180 price range and is the best bang for the buck, but seems to be priced high currently. It's pretty popular among the fighting game community.
edit: Here's a price history graph.
/u/Nastyerror Here is an online version https://repl.it/B74A -- Load up the site, press "run" and fill in the values and you're golden. Was originally going to port it JavaScript and build a form around it.. But this was way easier to setup.. And I don't have to track the changes you make to the code.
That was exactly what I was looking for! Spot on man, I think a big problem when I play 7s is that I just get this desire to slay without any real regard to how well my team is doing. As you caught, I played very aggressive, which is something I don't typically do in 3's. Definetely something i'm going to need to work on in the search of that Unbroken :)
And yes, I did make sure to grab a clip of that shut down, that was probably the most montage worthy moment of my career in Destiny.

I use some nice philips open back head phones and modular VModa boom mic (it's attached to a 3.5 mm cord - you plug one end into the phones and the other end into your controller). Whole setup was less $100 shipped from Amazon. You do need a 3.5mm jack on your controller or else you'll need an adapter (newer XB1 controllers and Elite controllers have this). Not sure about PS4.
Amazon links below (the phones are actually discontinued but there is a lot out there - the price fluctuates wildly - they usually will hit $60-$65 every couple of weeks):

>The first step in becoming a top player is the realization that playing to win means doing whatever most increases your chance of winning. That is true by definition of playing to win. The game knows no rules of “honor” or “cheapness”. The game only knows winning and losing.
There is a really good, really long series of posts on The Art of War and becoming a good crucible which is a great read. The above quote is from the section on Introducing the Scrub. Worrying about being "cheap" is restricting yourself from being the best you can be. And if someone thinks it is cheap, then they are not playing to win.
A few friends and I developed an app called FireteamGo for android devices. It's a dedicated mobile app for LFG. Right now it may look barren, but we're trying to get the name out there for people to start using it to find each other play. Iron Banner is its own dedicated section. Please check it out!
> Like I said, you want attention
Yes, and like I said, I also want a reaction. You gave me both. Thanks.
Not at all, not as if using my actual account will have any effect on my life. It's just more practical to wear a mask. There aren't any drawbacks, it's a simple concept.
> What is this one singular opinion?
Don't get too confused. I didn't say you had one opinion. I said you're single minded because the only opinion you care to acknowledge is that of yourself, and of people who are like yourself.
> Who are these people like me?
Twats.
> What are these logical arguments?
That you're a twat.
> Not exactly a merit-less assumptions, but thanks for confirming.
There's a word in the paragraph you responded to. It's a word that is synonymous to assume. I'm sure you can find it, and understand that its placing means that you're exactly making merit-less assumptions.
> I think there's more to it, but that's just me.
Do tell.
> Still not sure why you're grouping me with oneblueastronaut out of all these other people in CPB that talk the same.
Because you're both twats. Obviously.
> No, just pointing out the cognitive dissonance/hypocrisy.
No hypocrisy at all. I don't go around telling people I want the "sweaty community" to be more publicized yet act detrimental to my own cause.
> Pretty sure a reply in any form or manner is already considered a reaction.
Like I said, you want attention.
> Don't worry, your reaction isn't a notch on my bedpost.
> Correct, this is practical for a number of reasons. The most important one being my desire not to divulge my actual reddit identity but still have the ability to call out twats.
http://genius.com/Three-6-mafia-you-scared-part-2-lyrics
> You're only open to one opinion: You and those of others like you. But when presented with arguments that logically make sense but are against you, you have a knack for withdrawing.
What is this one singular opinion? Who are these people like me? What are these logical arguments?
> Sure, I freely admit I'm pissed. If I had wanted to divulge how many supposed L's I have, I'd have used my main account. But as it stands, look who's once again formulating merit-less assumptions.
Not exactly a merit-less assumptions, but thanks for confirming. I think there's more to it, but that's just me.
> I asked him this question, as he's been known for exactly that but evades answering replies and inquiries that are directed at his twat-like behavior. What makes it even more amusing is that this is completely contradictory to his supposed claims of "wanting the community to be aware of the sweaty scene". Surely even he can discern that there are better ways to accomplish this. Perhaps you can enlighten me.
Still not sure why you're grouping me with oneblueastronaut out of all these other people in CPB that talk the same.
> Now, if you're directing my own statement at me, it's kind of a moot point isn't it?
No, just pointing out the cognitive dissonance/hypocrisy.
Anbu is one of the best sweaty players in the game and runs sunsinger/shotty majority of the time (although depending on map snipes as well). His map control and movements are top teir and so much fun to watch and learn from. He's been running a lot of voidwalker post patch but you can trudge through all his past broadcasts where there is pleanty to see. He streams almost exclusively sweats.
Checkout The Lost Fireteam leader in action with his first curse / shotgun.. godly. Watched him beat Rhabby, kjhovey in trials the other day doing a carry.

I totally agree about the teabagging. I was doing a double run the other day and we lost to a team 5-4, just barely. And not only were they teabagging the whole game, they teabagged at the end so... Fed up, I sent the one kid a message and told him to "grow up, you only won by one round and you're teabagging"
Let's just say that didn't sit too well with him :) I got it on video: https://www.twitch.tv/v3r1tas/v/59929226
> How would you recommend sharing an entire match?
Twitch. There's a setting to archive past broadcasts. This allows everyone to re-watch your entire broadcast. This setting, a check box under Channels and Videos under Account Settings, can be only be accessed via the Twitch website on a browser (last I checked), and not through the Twitch app for smartphone/tablet. Archiving broadcasts is also a convenient way to export to YouTube. You can use the create highlight feature to export entire matches to YouTube if you wanted to.
Another solution, if you have a Windows 10 PC, is to use the Windows 10 xbox app to stream your xbox to your PC. From there you can use screen capture software like OBS to record gameplay to a file on your PC to upload to YouTube, or Twitch stream with that instead of the Xbox One's Twitch app.
you may not be, depending on your setup, bandwidth, etc. You have to take the entire network situation into consideration. use a 3rd party site like https://www.speedtest.net/ while you're streaming, and while you're not to see what's going on. In general though, having more devices and transfers going creates much more lag in the gaming realm. It's not cheating if you're not doing it intentionally but it does create an artificial benefit. the only fair match is one in a closed network, a closer one would be dedicated servers (which we don't have in destiny)
Perhaps bring back the radar for trials and leave it off for competitive? As a solo player I have made a ton of clutch plays in competitive due to the lack of a radar. Here’s two of them
In general I don’t feel hopeless anymore even in a 1v4 situation, without the radar I feel confident that I can make a play or two. This really matters as a solo player.
Grab heavy and go hunting!
This week I remembered to use my dank "xbox record that"

Firstly based in the UK not US, and secondly it depends on who they use, if they use AWS for example they have decent coverage and have sydney covered.
https://aws.amazon.com/about-aws/global-infrastructure/
Also it depends, for example I play a lot of crucible with a friend that Aussie and its always laggy for both off us due too the tight sbmm, the host can be in the US which for someone in aussie is at least 500ms ping. If you had a server the distance would be much closer. Also unless the load balancing is handled poorly you should have a much more consistent connection as servers generally have a very stable out put.
Off course no solution is perfect, however when I play Overwatch with a team all around the world its honestly very stable and lag free for all off us, outside off small spikes that effect the person lagging (some of my friends in destiny are from south america and internet is not very stable) its a pleasure.
Sure. This is the exact code I use:
https://repl.it/@Zahand/CompGrind
However, it doesn't seem to work well on repl.it, but it runs fine on my machine. So if you have the same problems then try running it locally instead
I'm running The Ram with Soul Rip. Isn't The Ram suppose to proc Life Steal and immediately start health regen? I'm only seeing ~ 10 hit points back on melee hits/kills. In the gif below, you can see I proc Life Steal and Energy drain but my health doesn't start regening. Am I doing something wrong? I could've sworn it would proc and my health would regen immediately (in PvE content). I had this happen multiple times yesterday with The Ram equipped.
You can play through Chrome if you have a Stadia controller. Open Chrome, go to stadia.com, switch to desktop mode and launch the game. I think it needs to be wireless, but may be worth a try with a bluetooth or usb connection and a non-Stadia controller.
I was checking the performance with a with a program similar like afterburner and trying diferent settings; for the lulz I try in ultra and 200% render and I got 100% video usage and just a 60% on CPU. I was checking and my motherboard has PCIE 2.0, has something to do with that?
That is correct, but Sony's EULA also states that the user may not impersonate someone else.
https://www.playstation.com/en-us/network/legal/terms-of-service/
ETA - see under "Community Code of Conduct"
Arguably doing an account recovery is impersonating someone else so if Sony discovers the account recovery, then it is within its rights under its EULA to ban the account of the person doing the account recovery while also banning the account of the person being recovered.
As to whether this has ever happened, I cannot say but Sony does have the right under its EULA.
I'll get them, on occasion, but I don't get suspended longer than 30 minutes. Big part of the problem is the P2P connection that bungie is holding really tight on for no good reason in particular..
However, I've noticed that my own computer starts having these very slow load times / boots because my video card temps were getting extremely high. I would recommend analyzing your temps when you're playing Destiny, especially before/during/after an hour+ of game time for a rough comparison. Far as I know, when my card is lower than 60'C I have my normal, really fast loading time. When it gets over 72+, that's when I run into more frame drops and slower load times.
HWinfo was recommended by a fellow PC Guardian and I gotta say, it's pretty awesome if you don't have a preference already.
Thanks. It's also worthwhile switching between burst glide and strafe glide. The superior directional control should not be underestimated.
Here's that clip I mentioned.
That's absolutely the case. I'm on Xbone and gt is Yaga Nub. If you look at my history I have a very slow progression in both my DTR score and kd ratio. My DTR score was a 1 for about 3 months and my kd ratio was .1 or so for the longest time but now my DTR score for Control/IB is 18 and Clash is 11 and my kd hovers at 1 (it will never get very high because of all the deaths I had before I started to really enjoy pvp). However, if you looked at my stats you'd notice that my other DTR scores are really low. I never used to play them and it shows. Because of ToO I've begun playing Skirmish but I hate playing Rumble and will only do it when it's the daily Crucible mode. If you like to snipe, watch TrueVanguard's videos or go to a steam like https://www.twitch.tv/drlupo or https://www.twitch.tv/ninja_with_no_l. Those guys are very good with their snipes. There's lots of other people streaming that can probably show you how to best use the weapon of choice for you.
The other tip that I have is don't switch weapon sets until you're comfortable with what you are using. For instance, if you start a day of pvp with Thorn/Shotgun, don't switch that set up for the rest of the day. Practice with that set of weapons for the whole day. The next day only switch one of those weapons, for instance switch out the Thorn for a Messenger. But until you get better try not to switch your weapons during a match. Force yourself to get comfortable with a one load out before moving on to another.
I haven't seen an export option. If we can get the data out we can re-use a lot of the framework I've already laid out to get to similar insights. I've messed around briefly with import.io in the past. That tool might be able to help with getting it off the browser screen to an excel sheet faster than copy-paste + cleanup.
I think there may be a bug in your code (most likely due to rounding)
I rewrote it in C# and am getting numbers dead on with exxtroopers TTKs for 100% headshot/bodyshot scenarios. The calculations are identical, I just cleaned up the inputs a little.
For example, I'm getting 1.016 / 1.54 for PDX-45 with yours but 0.93 / 1.44 with mine. Doctrine shows 0.77 / 0.95 for yours while mine is 0.8 / 1.0.
Also, if anyone wants to turn it into a webform, feel free to use my C# code.
I bought a mod pack off amazon that gives the same effect as the elite Controllers(xbox). It was $30 and totally worth the investment. I hated taking my thumbs off the sticks to jump or slide so the mod pack has improved my moviement tremendously. Here is the one for PS4 Collective Minds Strike Pack F.P.S. Dominator Controller Adapter with MODS & Paddles for PS4 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01L8QHXJA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_w34gDbG6TANP2.
It was fairly minor; NordVPN rents servers in multiple datacenters around the world. The datacenter in question fucked up and left a management tool open. No consumer accounts or data was really compromised and NordVPN dumped that server operator, obviously.
Surfshark is a good VPN that maintains a solid ping in Destiny. They have a quicker connection than NordVPN.
I think True Vanguard has a discount for it right now. Link is on one of his recent vids.
I picked up NordVPN last week. It seems great mostly, but I’ve noticed instances where my connection is reduced immensely at peak hours. Was lagging terribly in comp, to the point where I DCd from the VON, joined back, and won the game now that I could move.
Perhaps I need to be more strict about my server choices, but it’s been great 95% of the time and my ping and speeds are hardly taking a hit at all.
I've heard good things about ExpressVPN, and they have great reviews on TrustPilot. It does cost money though, I don't have any suggestions for reliable/safe free ones.
There are a lot of promotions to get a discount though: try code OFFICIAL (or maybe it's ) to get some kind of deal on it.
Anyone looking for recommendations, I've used Private Internet Access for the last 2 years and have experienced very little latency issues with it. But, they got bought out by a company recently that used to inject malware into software, so I will be switching to Mullvad when my PIA subscription is up. If you don't care about all that and just want speed, PIA is great.
i have this corsair mouse with this HUGE thumb platform on the left side. I tend to use my thumb/wrist to push against the mousepad like you do and this mouse is perfect. you can really stabilize yourself instead of having your whole hand on top of a mouse. also it sounds like your sensitivity is too high, if youre jittery or overaiming and having to constantly recorrect then your sensitivity is too high. like if you see an enemy, and go to put your crosshair on him, and you go to far and aim past him and have to go back and correct your aim then youre sensitivity is too high.
Don't change the destiny settings, buy a new mouse and change the mouse itselfs settings and leave the destiny ones default. I used to be jittery and kept overaiming and I lowered my DPI by half and its literally night and day. 1.3 k/d to minimum 2k/d just from the mouse and settings. that shakiness is just from going back and forth because its too sensitive. Pretty much find a dpi between like 600-1600 whatever feels good and use it for a few days, then test your aim and try to quick aim something and see how far off you are, if your crosshair didn't go far enough y our sensitivity is too low, if it went too far its too high. do that for awhile to see if you tend to overaim or underaim.
It was hard for me to track because any movement was too much for what destiny needed, if you think about shooting 20m away you only have to go like half an inch or something if they strafe.
heres the mouse its amazing

Just to clarify a point here - the XIM is not a cheat or exploit, it's a 3rd party controller. Hori makes one just like it that's officially licensed by Sony: https://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Programmable-Controller-Officially-Licensed-4/dp/B07MFN1QCS/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=hori%2Bps4%2Btac%2Bpro%2Bm2&qid=1574364188&s=videogames&sr=1-1&th=1
Bungie does not ban people for using XIM, or a Scuf, or any 3rd party controller. They do ban for using a modchipped controller, or other "rapid fire" mods, but the XIM does not have those capabilities, or add anything to the game beyond what a regular controller can do.
Okay, I will have to try the warm water thing this weekend, thanks!
Taking breaks is a good idea, although I still want to play the game so my breaks will probably just be PvE or private match 1v1s/rumble. I will look into incorporating that more often.
These are the headphones I am currently using. They are super comfortable but I don't think they are closed back, I can still hear everything pretty well when I have them on. This is the other pair I own. These ones have good sound quality and get quite a bit louder than my other pair, but they are pretty uncomfortable to wear for longer than an hour. I have glasses, and they press them into the side of my head, which is not very pleasant after awhile. I would prefer to not have to buy a new set of headphones, but I might have to if they can help with this.
>I should add that I’m on PS4 specifically, so if an Xbox elite controller is a suggestion that’s unfortunately not an option
Try a strike pack. I've used mine for over a year now. Great durability, maps to whatever buttons you want, and won't break the bank.
I've used this for years:
https://www.amazon.com/Gam3Gear-Brook-Converter-Gaming-Adapter-Keychain/dp/B01GDVGQ48
It works fantastically well. I use an Xbox One Elite controller on Xbox/PC/PS4 (via this converter on PS4) and on the PS4 it feels almost exactly the same (the response curve feels very slightly different but not in any meaningful way).
Brook have a newer version which seems to do things the one I use doesn't do (like carry audio through to the controller headset jack), so that might be the better option to buy, though I don't have any personal experience with it.
I got grips for my Xbox controller to help with ads sensitivity. Having a longer joystick gives a more precise range of motion(giggity). I was able to up my sensitivity to 8 and now all my movement/aiming feel much smoother.

External Drives are nice, because you can reformat them if you get rid of the console. Even if you upgrade to a 1X, there's still a viable use for them, too. If you got the cash to spare, this drive is pretty reliable and the step down will still do you some good. I did notice a change in speed when I moved my content over to the SSD, but the old hardware inside still definitely showed. But I hear yah, mines still kicking and doing what it needs to do, while at it's own pace. lol
They definitely don't stop at higher glory. I was getting hit with them a TON once I got around 4500 glory. It made the last 1k toward Not Forgotten annoying until I set my router up to use PIA (Private Internet Access, a VPN) and was able to avoid the disconnects.
I'm a fan of this monitor and it's the one I'm currently using although it's a 60hz monitor which is the limit for consoles anyway so this should be fine for you (also on sale right now) - https://www.amazon.com/Dell-Screen-LED-Lit-Monitor-S2318H/dp/B06XYPQWYW?th=1&psc=1
Brown switches are a good half step between reds and blues. I have tried both blues and reds in the past. Blues were too stiff and loud; reds were too mushy, but Browns have been the Goldilocks switches for my fingers.
As far as getting away from a tenkeyless keyboard, I was on a search for the right keyboard for me and landed on the Coolermaster Masterkeys M. I sometimes work from home, and wanted tenkey functionality, but didn't want a long-assed board for my day-to-day. https://www.amazon.com/Cooler-Master-MasterKeys-Mechanical-Keyboard/dp/B01ITE93K6
Good question. I've had it with broken PS4 controllers. Gone through three in the past year between my son and I. Really hoping this is going to be as good as the specs say it is https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07KF1FB1F?pf_rd_p=c2945051-950f-485c-b4df-15aac5223b10&pf_rd_r=QN7FZ59F2NJ63ABVPAAD
Just food for thought here. Why don't you stick to controller until you get a bigger mouse pad? Mouse pads are not that expensive anyway.
This is the same size Shroud uses for instance: https://www.amazon.com/Glorious-Gaming-Mouse-Mat-Pad/dp/B00NOD04CY/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1543602777&sr=8-3&keywords=glorious+xl+mouse+pad
Your sensitivity is so incredibly high I couldn't imagine controlling that thing. My sensitivity I use which is quite popular (same as Gigz and Kraftyy) is 800 DPI @ 5 sens but I use a .7 ADS modifier. My eDPI for look sensitivity is 4000 while yours is 36000. 9 times faster than my sens and I don't even consider my sens slow. I know people who use 800 DPI 3-4 sens.
Btw picking up your mouse is just something you have to do anyway, in all games. Watch this vid of a former CSGO pro explaining arm vs wrist aiming and having to pick up your mouse. Notice his large mouse pad but still requiring having to pick up your mouse over and over again. It is a skill in itself knowing when to reset your hand as you turn so that you don't fall off/hit your keyboard whatever: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PLvBQx1g1qA
You can also get switch testers online if you don't want to go test them out in a store, but it's obviously not the same as getting to type on a full keyboard. Good luck and I hope you get a keyboard you love.
The Art of War is full of anecdotes that apply surprisingly well to first person shooters. It talks all about how to be tactically smart and chosing your engagements.
In short you're really talking about recognizing when to engage and when to disengage. Another term for all this is situational awareness. I agree that watching gameplay is one of the best ways to get better at this.
The Art of War was a book I couldn't get behind because most of it is nonsense written before the age of critical thinking. This however is a book I can fully support. I am glad we are moving in the right direction.
You're arguing that artists intent trumps consumers perceptions I think.
I don't necessarily think that is the case for tbofr. There is real wisdom here that absolutely can be applied both broadly and specifically to Destiny's pvp. All it takes is study, interpretation and exposition. All of which OP has shown to do pretty well with his breakdown on The Art of War.
Ahh i see, i see.
Well, sooner or later, somebody's going to pick this up. ;)
Musashi is an... Interesting guy to say the least.
He's not only an exellent tactician who are undefeated in combat, but he is also hailed in Japan as the greatest swordsman to have ever lived.
Now, Five Rings is wastly different from The Art of War.
How different, and in what ways?
Hehe. Im not going to spoil it for ya ;)
This is exactly why I decided to post the weekly exploration of The Art of War. It helps all levels of player, it's garnered some nice discussion, and really gets players to get out of their comfort zone and self-examine how to get better.
For the most part, montages are great, but the trickiness lies in their creation: they are the Greatest Hits of a player over the course of X amount of time. It makes them predictable and novel. And now that the novelty is wearing off, people are realizing that they don't have much content to them: they're mostly fluff set to music.
What you also need to understand is that high level PvP'ers aren't always going to have the communication skills and/or motivation to share with the class what's going on in their heads or self-commentate a match. They obviously have an advantage over other players, why hand that edge over to you?
To those top tier players doing this: my hat is off to you. You're going above and beyond, honestly. To the other 99%: sometimes blood, sweat, and tears are more effective than words on paper.
For sure! I've really enjoyed your The Art of War posts so far! That's the kind of interesting material I like seeing on this subreddit. It's a little obscure but still applicable and that's what makes it interesting. I don't need a subreddit to tell me how to use TLW, or to know that some random legendary is serviceable but ultimately shit in crucible haha I enjoy the stuff like your posts that make me think about my game and maybe give me that one obscure train of thought that helps me improve.
Keep up the good work
I like the low domed ones in this set
YES! And there are 4K gaming monitors. Just make sure it has HDMI.
I have ASUS 28" 4K https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BYU0GVC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_gcYLyb0V01S58
(It also has on-screen reticle, which I haven't used yet, but helpful if you wanna learn to aim better)
Other benefits having a gaming monitor vs. a TV - quicker or reduced latency - super fast refresh rate - smaller screen for quicker reaction*
*I used to play on a 65" Vizio and believed I could see further into the battlefield, because everything is bigger (on a big tv). I was hesitant about gaming on a smaller screen that I couldn't see distance, but turns out, the smaller gaming monitor allows full view of the battlefield for quicker reactions (bigger TV you might have to move head or eyes to see left and right), and no issues seeing further into the battlefield.
Overall, everyone is right. You'll feel the difference playing on a gaming monitor. I won't go back to a TV. I even tried playing Overwatch on a friend's TV last weekend, and I swear I thought his PS4 controls were so sluggish that I was screening around with movement speed in the options. When I got home, I realized his control movement settings were on default (as mine has the same numbers), but moving and playing felt so smoother on my gaming monitor.
Lastly, if you love games...do it. Buy a monitor. It's an investment that will make you happy. Then, buy a SCUF when ya can. :)
PS4 Strike Pack FPS Dominator https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01L8QHXJA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_2IUtybYDGBMPV
Pick up those. Far cheaper, awesome quality, and can be switched between controllers, as ps4 controllers don't last very long.
Also kontrol freeks, great for stick customization. I personally run this, KontrolFreek GamerPack Classic - PS4 https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00Q52MNMU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_hUUtybT65WGW8
If you or your kids are slightly DIY you can get trigger stop kits you can add to the controllers, and even do the "gamer grip" stuff that scuf does by getting plasti dip, there are tutorials and vids on YouTube.
Canadian links, you can find all of that on US links on Amazon.
Scufs quality is always hit or miss, and their customer service is bad. Use caution if you buy from them, once they get your money they don't give a F about you.
Comes with the adapter for the 3.5mm jack. Adapter has an easy way to adjust game vs voice audio, as well as easily mute. If you ever upgrade, at least you'll still have the adapter.
I've plugged the the headset into my computer and it works great. People always think I have a fancy mic setup.
The mic also detaches so you can use them as normal headphones.
One of the affordable monitors that is accepted for competitive play is below. I just got one this week and it is awesome.
https://www.amazon.com/BenQ-24-Inch-Console-eSports-Monitor/dp/B01H5KKRLY/ref=dp_ob_title_ce
I think you should try to google a few ways to rest/relax your eyes while staring at a screen for a long time. I have to do things like this as I am on a computer almost all day as an engineer.
The other thing that this brings to mind is blinking when you shoot a scoped rifle. I'm not sure if it will help, but you could try googling how to avoid doing this.
You might also want to try using different scopes. One with more range might be easier to see.
Hope you get it figured out bud. If you have resolution, do update this or make another post because I'm sure others have the same issues.
Assuming you are on PS4;

This thing is amazing for the price. I have gone through 3 scuf controllers, 2 still going and my first one died of my own stupidity. The only reason I have not ditched the scuf for stock controller + this attachment is because of adjustable trigger pull. I cannot go back to a full trigger pull after having the scuf for so long, once I figure out what to do to get adjustable trigger stops on my stock controller, I will prob switch. The only con, HAS to be wired at all times. But I play at a desk with a monitor so its no big deal.
if your on Xbox they make one for the xbox controller as well.
This is the one I bought and it was cheap and easy to buy and it also came with a 3-year warranty from the store I bought it from. I would go ahead a research more on your part and I believe BenQ monitors have rave reviews. The country I live in now doesn't have amazon so I settled with this Asus.
https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-VP247H-P-Monitor-1920x1080-Speakers/dp/B019HN6P36
Thanks NCX! excellent list and reviews you have there. Unfortunately, the HP doesn't seem to be available in amazon uk and the rest seems to be unavailable as well or very expensive 190£+
I've added the following to my "watch-list":
I feel my choice would be between the Samsung or the more expensive option Dell P2414H UNLESS any of the other monitors get listed in a lighting deal (20% off or something).
What do you think?
That's cheap a f. Amazon selling a40 TRs for $320 cnd. Make sure it comes with a mix amp if you using it on console. Mix amp by it self is like $120. https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B014F77FGA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_UMi4wbHDYXG1A
I picked up this set of headphones off amazon for half the price of the ones you linked.
They're not amazing in their own right, but for the price they are incredible. I was previously using a $600 set of Sennheisers I used to use in a studio, but wanted a headset with a built-in microphone (that I also wouldn't have to worry about rage-breaking), and these have not disappointed in any way.
The manufacturer seems to have products ranging from $15 to $250 so there's definitely one at your ideal price point. I did read a lot of reviews saying to look out for fakes because this is apparently a popular brand to counterfeit.
I'm by no means an audio equipment expert and had never heard of this brand before buying one, so if Sades is the Comcast of headset manufacturers or something please feel free to let OP know. Happy with mine though.
The Sony Pulse Elites are great too (that were made originally for the PS3).
They work with anything that has a USB port, have sliders on the headset for game and chat volume, are super sturdy and well priced (~$100).
My only gripe is the weight but you get used to it. Also no "boom mic" so you don't look like an air traffic controller with them on, nor do you have to worry about where the mic is placed.
http://www.amazon.com/Edition-Wireless-Headset-PlayStation-3-63089006306200/dp/B0087OZ5FG
there are some decals you can get that use the static of your screen to stick, so you're not actually using any adhesive.
http://www.amazon.com/Keyboard-Mouse-Adapter-Xbox-Playstation-3/dp/B00MG654FM
Make sure you update the firmware and get the latest app from either the app store or off their forums (if you use Android)
I guess it depends on what stick type you use for the Elite. My suggestion would be to use the default length sticks with the CQCX. It's a convex version of their CQC stick. They don't sell it on their website anymore but hey Amazon.
Another thing you could do is try the longer stick with the Alpha. It's a slight concave but the shortest length you can get from them. It also has a wider surface thumb area.
I've tried both and I've defaulted to the longer stick that came with the elite. All in all once you use something for so long you just get used to it. Just like the first guy said. These are good for raising your sensitivity without losing a huge amount of accuracy. Either way good luck
Agree that a headset is the way to go and you don't need to invest much. A decent set of earbuds or even something like this will be great.
I use these on the left stick: http://www.amazon.com/Grip--Analog-Stick-Covers-Xbox-360/dp/B003NSLGW2/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1454013821&sr=8-3&keywords=ps4+grips
with a kontrol freek on the right stick. It helps with the grip but doesn't increase the height of the left stick.
You don't want a splitter unless you want to have Destiny on both screens as the same time. If you want to choose which screen will display the image you need a switch/matrix that does 2in/1out or something like that. I've got a Rocketfish HDMI switch from Best Buy that I use and I haven't expereinced any lag that I'm aware of. But I'm using a pc monitor. Something like this should work for you.
I do not own a BenQ, but have spent a fair amount of time in monitor calibration. These few points are universal across all monitors and TV's
You want to turn everything that has a On/Off setting to Off. Here's a small list: Motion Smoothing, Black Extension, Vivid Color, Noise Reduction (NR), and C.A.T.S.. The only exception is Game Mode.
Ideally, a 1080p monitor will be it's clearest at 0 Sharpness when running 1080p content. Although, I have had the pleasure of owning some sets that were defective and looked worse at 0. :/
The vivid setting makes colors too colorful, which makes details more difficult to see. The Standard and Movie/Cinema presets are almost always much better.
If you would like to take it a step further, a blu ray calibration disc + blue filter glasses would be the easiest and cheapest way to go. The disc that I use is Disney WOW, and it's easy. It explains each pattern before introducing them and is very user friendly. I found the links if you're interested:
http://www.amazon.com/Wow-World-Wonder-Blu-ray/dp/B00462PTDQ
http://www.costore.com/thx/productenlarged.asp?peid=87&pid=2875999
Edit: You use the glasses on the color pattern ;)
Edit 2: Monitors use full range. So you have to go to your PS4's Video Output Settings and change RGB Range to Full.
Get a 50ft Ethernet cable and a pack of these and just tack it to the very bottom of the walls. After a day or two you literally won't even notice it anymore.

It has a very low response time for a low price! It's 40% off on Amazon right now. Sorry, I don't know how to recommend it without sounding like I work for BenQ...
This is probably along the lines of what you're looking for man. I have it and love it. Only thing I wish it had was a VESA mount. But I only have one monitor as of now so that's a non issue.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00GMGHCVG/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_mbYVvbDNB1GAB
I don't use anything else, just a regular Dual Shock 4 and a big leather chair :).
My monitor is an Asus VS278Q.
I would suggest any monitor with a response time of 2ms or less, less is better, obviously. I don't have a fantastic CPU so I didn't need to worry about 4K resolutions, just capable of full HD over HDMI for PS4 gaming.
I am no expert so I hope to see a few more replies in here, too!
I used to game on a 55" Samsung LED. Actually bought a Big TV for gaming. It looked very cool when playing PVE . But as soon as i started playing PVP a lot. i used to notice the disadvantages.
1-) There was a certain lag (hard to explain ) 2-) Radar was very hard to keep track at 3-) My Eye used to hurt following the quick activities that were going on screen
Then i switched over to this
http://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-VX279H-Widescreen-Monitor-80000000/dp/B00N1ULSUW
I am a good pvp player . But after the switch my pvp skill even got better . At least from my personal experience i would advice everyone who is an avid pvp player to switch to a good quality gaming monitor
It's not that bad, I'm assuming that /u/switchblade_sal has something similar to me which I got here
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00GV0LR64
Besides the chord nothing really obscures the screen and its better than sharpie/tape since it's easier to see with the lights off.
One thing I've noticed with destiny though is that the weapons reticule seems to move a little bit over time. I'll set up the LED so that its dead center in my sights but than about 15-20 min later I'll notice that it's off up to half an inch. I've seen the reticule move in every direction so I know that it's not just the suction cup slipping. Curious if anyone else using something lie this has encountered this problem.
It's not a huge problem since I'm using it to get a sense of where the center of the screen is and not no-scope snipe people, but still annoying
I got this Asus. It's been great to play on. You don't have to turn your head to see the corners, and the input lag is advertised at 1ms GTG. The difference is quite noticeable coming from a big TV. Lot cheaper than those BenQ monitors as well.
Wireless speed isn't the only factor... Wireless has unpredictable delays which also contributes to the "poor connection" rating.
This specific Ethernet over power line adapter works great on my ps4. Took me from red on my wifi to green on the wired connection.
Oops: just noticed a similar device was linked. Fyi, the "tenda" brand disconnected me ToO often. Netgear doesn't disconnect me.
