I created a template for you to use. The formulas are all there, so you shouldn't have to do much more than copy it over to your own Docs and input the data.
I track games played per position only because the devs have stated that the position played the most weighs a bit heavier, however there isn't necessarily any extra data I can crunch to tell you much more than...make those your best grades. Heh.
NOTE: You will need to go to File > Make A Copy and save to your own Google Docs to edit.
Team Name: Puck Goes First (PGF)
Owner: radapex
GMs: Mikealcl
EASHL Page: will post tomorrow, once team is created
Here's a link to my spreadsheet.
Once everything's been input, it's a quick way to sort/organize your lines, plus:
value system that automatically rates every player on your team based on their age, potential and overall
PP/PK ranking for each player to quickly set up your special teams
Offer Estimator to get the most out of your contract negotiations
Extensive scouting data on almost 300 draft picks, and system to determine future needs, and best leagues to scout based on current team
Probably other stuff I've forgotten about.
For me, GM mode is 10% in-game, 90% excel. This spreadsheet probably says it uses macros, I'm pretty sure you can disable them without breaking anything.
I am currently doing this as I got a new PS3 and I have to earn legend again (I have the games obviously, but my grade tanked when my old PS3 was dying and I kept freezing, and disconnecting early in the game, so now I am working to bring it back up).
In regards to team play:
Look at the performance tracker and go to the 'Team Play' section. Everything in there will affect your team play.
Big minuses are turnovers (passing the puck to the other team or calling from AI and having it picked off), getting checked, and taking a penalty.
Pluses are dumping on the penalty kill, good passes, drawing a penalty, and hits.
As soon as I cross the blue line, I just take a shot if I am under pressure. Dumping (not hitting the net) will hurt your teamplay if someone on the other team gets it (counts as a turnover and a bad shot). That's just because the dumping system is borked (you can tell if you have commentary on, as they will comment on it).
In regards to getting all your grades up:
Use Rob_c's Weighted Legend Tracker (TM). Just make a copy of the google doc and enter your stats from your performance tracker. It is weighted as your most played position will affect your over all grade the most.
Have you tried my spreadsheet?
Go to your performance tracker, count the number of filled bubbles and GP for every position, and fill out these boxes. The sheet will show you exactly how far you are from A-, and exactly what you need to work on to get your grade up.
Edit: If you find there are too many other people using the sheet and you don't want them messing with your numbers, go to File > "Make a Copy" to have your own private version to work on.
Edit 2: Added a % for B+. If someone is working their way towards their B+ grade, could you tell me if the spreadsheet is accurate?
For the mini-tournament on the PS3 side I think we should form 4 teams as quickly as possible, we usually have more than 8 guys online by 8:30, and we can draft players as they come online.
Here's the link to last week's tourney google doc, I think it's still relevant.
we started making one for PSN on the offical reddit google doc roster here
Try this link, I'm not sure if I uploaded it right. If it doesn't take you to an excel sheet you can download, then I did the link wrong.
I use a macro on this sheet so I can select two cells, press ctrl+D and they swap places. It will give you a security warning, but I promise it isn't malicious, it's actually pretty sweet for working out your lines. Source of the macro.
I was looking around and found this link. It asks for a 5.95$ payment though. I do not know this website, maybe someone else can confirm if it's legit: http://www.old-games.com/download/7022/nhl-2004
Opinions on it seem to diverge: http://www.gamespot.com/forums/pc-mac-linux-society-1000004/dont-buy-games-from-oldgamescom-where-can-you-buy--29399430/
The producers have said they are aiming for a presentation closer to NHL on TV, with intros, overlays, etc. I hope this means improved replays. No new announcers, but I'm sure they brought Thorne and Clement in to record additional phrases and play-by-play (glass breaking, Winter Classic) so maybe it won't be as stale as the last year or two.
For those interested in the realism, the EA team is working to get all of the team intros/entrances up to date. SJ enters the ice through a giant shark's head, for instance, while the Oilers skate under an oil derrick.
Gamespot had posted a couple of periods of gameplay a few weeks back. I will edit this comment to add the video when I can dig it up later today.
FWIW, the Action Tracker not only shows those stats, but it appears you'll be able to replay any of those key moments (hit/shot/goal) at any time. No more scrambling for a camera at the end of a period when you want to capture that sick goal you scored online.
The person on the other end of the chat isn't a gamer. I'd be surprised if he's even computer literate.
Most chats/call centers hire anyone who is willing to follow the script, they don't hire based on knowledge or wit.
On Xbox One you'll be able to play 1 to 4 players locally.
Open your highlight, set the size of the GIF. Keep it's biggest dimension under 640px
Set your recording speed to 16 FPS
Press Record, the quickly press play on your clip, then stop recording as soon as it's over.
Edit > delete the first 2 frames. The first frame will be the big black play button, the 2nd frame is actually the last frame of your highlight. EA's highlight system is buggy and actually puts the last frame of every highlight first. If you watch carefully, you'll see it flash for 1/10th of a second at the start of every clip on the EA site.
Delete the last frame (if you didn't stop recording in time and had another black play button at the end)
Save > Quantize
Upload to gfycat or imgur if it's small enough.
I have made this sheet. All people would have to do is put an x for each time they think they will be available to play.
I hate google docs, but I'll move it there in 2 minutes so you can watch as I plug in numbers.
There has been a lot of issues over this actually. I based my post on the NHL 12 Optimizer made by neomap/ChitownSwagger NHL 12 Optimizer
I'm not actually sure now anymore about it. Also theres debate on where to put rebound control because you don't want them dropping dead in front of you.
Definitely use the Secret Code Post that Prongs mentioned. All skater positions affect your grades (though the last 25 games as well as the positions you play most are more heavily weighted). I am using it now and it is making very clear what i need to do.
Here is the Google doc of it from that thread that you can use:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AnqNzOOkmhpHdHBRek96Z2ZhR21uVzJJTG5KaFhKYmc#gid=1
Just plug in your positions and see what you need to improve!
Exactly. There are plenty of players around right now for additional teams. Noone should feel pressured to join any specific team.
Additionally, if anyone starts a new PSN team and wants to be added to the rosters spreadsheet, send me a message with your team name and email address to share with. (Google Docs)
Puck Goes First still has room. I reduced the spreadsheet down to our roster spots (max of 12 at the moment) to make it a bit clearer.
I'm pretty sure it showed up around 2002 and was in place until at least 06. There's a GameSpot review of NHL 06 that references the hero line, and I remember seeing it in earlier releases.
I had a copy from years ago, but you can buy it here as well. Whether or not it's worth it for $10.. maaaaaybe, but a big maybe.
Best Buy is offering a goalie boost pack with preorder this year. I'm sure this is just like the skater boost pack from Gamestop, but with keeper gear and boosts.
Amazon does occasionally show release day delivery on the listing when viewed on a non-Prime account, but RDD is not offered when you check out.
You can use Wine for Mac, Bootcamp took up to much of my hard drive so I uninstalled and got parallels. But if you just want to use it for that game, get Wine bottler. It's free and the website teaches you how to use it.
It's pretty easy, actually:
Once you have Windows running in a VM, you can download the roster tool and work with the roster files just fine. I have run this before on my Mac without issue.
No details really, just something I had found while spending some time in free skate. You have to pretty much start to dangle with the right stick as soon as you hit LT - otherwise backwards skating kicks in. It feels like you get a little more fidelity/control over your stick movements from my testing.
If you try to do the old forehand-to-backhand (or vice versa) by rotating 3-6-9 on your right stick, it does perform the spin-o-rama so it can be a little tough to work with early on.
Here's a small clip of me screwing around in free skate.
Bit pricey but: here

These are the stats I got. Missed the 3 stars for the first game. I think its the same as Seanahue with the shot totals and the GW goals.
GG guys thanks to Wendingopsu and the 2 captains.

The first game stars I missed and didn't get the shots for Britle Team either. I thought someone else got the scores if not I'll update later.
absolutely. at this point in time Wednesday is winning with 18 after 23 votes... i assumed that would end up being the case but just wanted to make sure!
Jeff Bakalar from CNET also put NHL 15 on his most disappointing games list of 2014 and I'm pretty sure he's otherwise been in love with the series.
http://www.cnet.com/news/the-most-disappointing-games-of-2014/
Maybe he's just a bitter Devils fan :P
I haven't done it since the first year they introduced it. I did some quick reading and it sounds like most people are using ~100db this time around as they've changed up the custom music a little bit, adding heavier echo effects for arena music and the like.
If you're on Windows you can download MP3Gain, which will allow you to normalize an entire folder of MP3s at once.

This would help in conjunction with learning cheese tactics and how to play a 200 foot game, whether on d or on the rush. You can get a copy on Kindle for cheap.
Just a head's up - you can use these to split the the mic/headphones into separate inputs. Super cheap...I think $5 and primeable
I use that plugged into my PS4 controller w/an antlion modmic + sennheiser headphones
Why does no one carry thumb grips?! I went to Wal-Mart, Target, Game Stop, Toys R Us, CompUSA and BestBuy. No one had any kind of thumb grips. I wound up getting these from Amazon.
