Imma go ahead and be the old man that I am - Earplugs! Don't fuck up your hearing - you never get it back. I love the bass and loudness as much as anyone, but don't be dumb - tinnitus is no joke. pack something like these so you don't lose fidelity, just volume - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0044DEESS/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&th=1
As a side note (since this seems to always get brought up with depression), one of the major reasons Robin Williams committed suicide is that he had a rare form of dementia called Lewy Body Dementia.
Edit 2: All of his content on soundcloud is gone
Edit: have been contacted by Billy Van...things are being checked out.
This is another track he is claiming as his own, who knows how many are stolen...

they use custom 500$+ ones, dont bother, theyre easy to lose and not needed for casual listening
instead i got eardials, 35$ on amazon, designed to be invisible -- clear silicon that fits perfect in ear and isnt noticeable. also the guy who makes it offers amazing customer service
only downside is theyre rather uncomfortable after a while, and irritate the ears a bit (might just be me) also dont push them in too far

Nu-Nu-Disco. You know, to differentiate it from the last time Nu-Disco was a thing.
Or are we on Nu-Nu-Nu-Disco now? The Independent was using the term 13 years ago.
Edit: had to change the link to use the Wayback Machine because it's that old.
Reading the official complaint, this appears to be the case, but not to a degree that he is no longer entitled to his share of the profits from all things Krewella related.
> • how can I be as cool as you? Would wearing thick rimmed glasses help at all?
Ha. Appreciate that. I suppose it's all relative, no? Just doing your own thing and to stop giving a fuck about what anyone else thinks is a good start.
> • how far into Tools of Titans are you? Or have you finished reading it?
Finished it. Loved it. Robert Rodriguez's interview at the end is worth the cost of the entire book.
> • what's your drum programming workflow like? Do you just place audio samples into the timeline in ProTools?
Basically. The audio clips are from all over the place: Things I've recorded on the fly, synthesized, previous sample sessions, the occasional sample. And yeah, all just gridded and audiosuited to death in pro tools.
> • what's your #1 workflow efficiency tip?
Self imposed deadlines.
Technically trap is a rap subgenre from the southern US. Electronic producers took the beat style and applied it to edm, adding synths, basses, vocal chops, etc.
As ghostCatalyst eloquently described, its drum based, but nowadays trap is fused with just about every other genre's characteristics and it has become harder to define. Future bass is a subset of trap, Hybrid trap is trap beats with dubstep bass, and dub/drumstep producers often throw in small trappy sections in to their otherwise standard dub/drumstep.
There's a whole slew of others, but the bottom line is fuck genres, their days are numbered as everything is becoming more blurred.
JBL Pulse 3. My gf got this for x mas and we love it. Its priced at 200 but you can get it off amazon for around 170 which is where she got it from. It's great especially for ravers since its got LEDs you can change and make custom features. Plus its water proof, floats, pretty durable, and you can get at least 10 hours of use with out charging. You can even get 2 or more and sync them together apparently. Oh yeah and most importantly its loud af. Especially if you put it in a corner or somewhere the sound can bounce off. https://www.amazon.com/JBL-Pulse-Wireless-Bluetooth-Waterproof/dp/B074Q4S2NJ
Try high fidelity earplugs. I have tinnitus too, and also photograph EDM shows for a living. I usually keep two pairs of Eargasms off Amazon in my tour bag at all times. I no longer have tinnitus post shows and the ringing has severely decreased.

Album I made of Garrix at Veld this year. Was also in the center and near the front. Couldn't have asked for a better view of everything. I've been to 3 big festivals now and no experience has come anywhere close to Garrix. Maybe it's cause I'm rolling and his music has a sense of unity to it... or maybe cause he's always the finale lol. Anyways, he's closed 2 of the festivals I've been to (Veld) and honestly, his set alone makes the entire festival worth it.
While I don't listen to his music regularly, I know enough of his stuff to singalong with everyone and have a good time. I think that's why I love Garrix at festivals. It's the perfect festival experience.
That said, man played Tremor at least 3 or 4 times that set. Way too much.
Another suggestion, maybe a bit technical, but running a virtual machine from an external drive might be an idea. You can have a nice clean laptop, and just install any programs on your virtual machine that you want.
Create new accounts with a different email, only login from your virtual machine. When you're done with whatever your parents consider so horrible, just shut the machine down and they won't be able to see any difference.
You can even make a copy of it so if your parents wise up and try to take it away, you'll still have a digital copy of everything exactly how you wanted it.

Good luck!
Four years to find a song? Someone hasn't tried searching the song by rhythm.
http://www.musipedia.org/query_by_tapping.html?&L=%5C%5C
Edit: ... Actually, everything I put in returns Pachelbel's canon, or Darude Sandstorm.
Anything that goes into our body is going to be hard to return. I’d say if you can’t find a retailer that specifically says they’ll return earplugs, then you’ll need to find a compromise. I’d find a pair with high reviews, offers the features you want and comes with multiple size pieces.
Eargasm comes with 2 sizes I believe, but maybe you can find an option with 3 sizes.
Maybe this one? Vibes High Fidelity Earplugs - Invisible Ear Plugs for Concerts, Musicians, Motorcycles, Airplanes, Raves, Work Noise Reduction, Hearing Protection - Fits Small Medium Large - As Seen On Shark Tank https://www.amazon.com/dp/B018WPOQSG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_6EJV91151GVHG7YTP5RC
Good luck!
Digitally Imported is the way to go. They have channels for everything. Click over to https://www.di.fm/ and just start going through different channels at different times. Just remember there's good and bad of everything so if one tune isn't your thing check back later.
Hey Matt, gotta a few questions for ya:
• how can I be as cool as you? Would wearing thick rimmed glasses help at all?
• how far into Tools of Titans are you? Or have you finished reading it?
• what's your drum programming workflow like? Do you just place audio samples into the timeline in ProTools?
• what's your #1 workflow efficiency tip?
Thank you
Armin will play a mix of big room, progressive, and trance. Where are you seeing him? His set from Miami would probably be a good indication of what he will play (if it's an ASOT event use this set, not his garbage mainstage one).
My favorites are either his Triple J set or his Diplo and Friends mix
I'm not trying to imply that producers get Nothing from track sales, but the records/labels and the distribution orgs get the lion's share of the money from purchasing music. The money in the music industry has shifted away from purchasing music and more towards tickets for live performances and merch, and artists usually get higher proportions of these sales. If you really want to support the artist, proliferate their music and buy tickets/merch.
Additionally I'll just mention that there is research that suggests illegal media downloads actually have a long term positive impact on sales by creating publicity and widening the artist's reach source
I did the same thing for years up until last fall. With some help from NewPipe and youtube-dl, YouTube is totally fine for all your music needs. I finally switched to Spotify, but it's definitely a "nice to have" rather than a "need to have"
He has only released a a couple in the past 6-8 months. Here's a mix of 10 of his songs I made about 11 months ago when he released a bunch of songs https://www.mixcloud.com/LeaveittoBever/tchami-mix/
Why do you think that?
Also this has been one of the easiest way to move libraries to Spotify -> https://www.tunemymusic.com
The only challenge is the music you have uploaded yourself, Spotify doesn't have a cloud library so you have to transfer it yourself from device to device and then can listen through spotify.
Like djWHEAT said, make sure you take this survey: https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/6LC7WFD
If we answer this positively they will keep up the music channel, and we will hear more of this on twitch.

My wireless Skullcandy Crushers give out unreal bass which you can adjust through a bass-slider, while the treble and mids are good enough. As far as I know, these are the best sound quality WIRELESS headphones with an emphasis on bass at it's price on the market, primarily beating out the Sony XB950B1 extra bass with overall sound and build quality, and with the extra option of a slider on the Crushers.
It's around 150 bucks so I'm not sure if it's within your price range. I know skullcandy gets alot of shit, and there are definitely better choices out there in terms of better overall sound quality, but the slider and the wireless capabilities at this price were enough to sell me on these.
edit: I notice the Sony's are around 100 bucks now on Amazon, instead of 150 like when I last checked the price. If the extra 50 bucks is an issue, these are also perfectly adequate alternatives.
oh! you were there!
can you help me identify the very first track? i just want to know the name. i've been addicted to it. not even sure if its his track....thanks!
Haha yeah, I feel you. Garrix was the only one I had to see no matter what. Bought tickets as soon as I saw that he was playing. I recorded a good chunk of his set. Close to the front and in the center too so I had a great view.
hope this helps!
also heres a list of a few sets from countdown
https://www.mixcloud.com/Traumzauberwald/
RL Grime, Nectar, and Porter weren't recorded I do not think but I was there and I can tell you that it was fucking amazing! I did not see porter however, cause I was at Alison Wonderland. My buddy did take videos and from what I saw it was sick.
here you go! you'll definitely recognize a lot of these folks if you follow this shit. A lot of times labels like disruptors or Columbia will require artists to have there folks as advisors to ensure the track follows mainline EDM trends, and subsequently will generate revenue for the label. This doesn't mean the chainsmokers are fake, or bad. It means their signed to a record label and have to play ball in order to get their tracks out.
Edit: removed a line with incorrect info.
This is a shameless plug but I'd argue my weekly mixes are just as good if not better than any of what the big names are putting out.
Big Room, Electro, Progressive, mashups, pop remixes, etc you name it it's on there.
I made a mix with some Gryffin in it, there's a bunch of other future bass and future house type tracks. Let me know if this does anything for you.
Genre-wise it's a pretty old house genre, garage house.
Take a look at the tracks listed here (last tabs for recent stuff) and see if you'd find anything that suits your taste.
Also Calvin's latest remix (Alone) fits into that category.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Theory-Computer-Musicians-Michael-Hewitt/dp/1598635034 This is hands down the most comprehensive guide I've come across and it's taught me everything I know. If you post on /r/edmproduction this will be the first guide they recommend. If you can't afford that then here is a free guide that is also very good. https://gumroad.com/l/tldrmusic
Just found their accounts on reverbnation and youtube, right now I'm a bit undecided on their music.
/r/bigroom, you can it also call it anthem, festival house. But when you hear people saying it's "progressive house", it's not. The confusion is made by labels going along with Beatport's unwillingness to get with the times and update their catalog/classifications. If you wanna, check out /r/proghouse and /r/realproghouse to understand and feel the vibe of that style of house music.
If you know an artist or genre you like, you can use this website to spider web out into the infinity of all related artists and genres. Its wildly useful.
Here's an hour mix of some stuff you might enjoy. Also I would check out Hybrid Soundsystem.
it really makes me laugh to see all these comments of people waxing nostalgic for their 'early days'' of discovering EDM.....four years ago.
I guess I've probably been listening to electronic music for longer than many of them are alive (first CD I can remember would have been Rave Til Dawn in 1992) and that is both a bit depressing and enlightening.
The file was about 1.22 GB to upload. If anyone is interested in a direct download, not on Soundcloud, I can upload it. Audio is directly ripped from Lifestream.

I have created on called Plane9, it's free, stand alone and still being updated. The other option would be one of the commercial versions from soundspectrum
go to beatport and select genres. Listen to a few songs from diffrent categories. You will know what diffrent qualites of diffrent kinds of edm when you feel it > eg Electro house has a buildup so when you know when the drop will happen
> Techno is the same set of chords and rhythm repeated
I like the music choice. What software did you use to mix them? I would recommend looking into MixedInKey (or use Traktor's key detection) to get some ideas on the how to do Harmonic Mixing. It is not an iron rule, but its a good suggestions to get more proficient at choosing which songs might work with others.
http://www.mixedinkey.com/HowTo
Can I piggy back your post and ask you to criticize my mix?
I used this when I switched from Rdio to Spotify and then Spotify to Google Play Music. I was lucky enough that my playlist was only at 75 as it occasionally confused remixes and the original songs and it took a little time to sort things out. I can imagine it'll also be a little problematic to transfer from YouTube (which doesn't have specific titles as sometimes they will contain "OUT NOW" etc.) to something like Spotify.
I'd try it out and see how optimal it is. For songs that aren't on say Spotify, do what the other poster did as you will find out, songs won't always be on Spotify or Google Play Music
I can definitely relate to this. Going to events solo because none of my friends liked EDM. It gets boring and kind of lonely after a while. Luckily, one day I found this group on the Meetup app and ever since we've been going to tons of events and festivals together! My advice to anyone else, get on Facebook or Meetup.com do some group searches for your city using keywords like " X Trance family", "X Rave Community", or "X EDM", where X is the name of your city, state, or province. If you're in Canada and live in Calgary, check out "The Calgary EDM Squad", that's the group I joined and I've met some amazing people through it.
It’s probably sold out as I can’t find it either, but here’s a sketchy Amazon link for kids sizes I believe. You probably won’t be able to find it at retailer stores anymore.
FWIW, here’s a listing of a different color way on grailed.
I got them from Amazon! A bit pricey but honestly super worth it because of how sturdy they are and how easy it was to install. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07TZNN59C/ref=cm_sw_r_tw_dp_U_x_NYLCEbR776ZR4
Pretty surprised, been to your HQ in ATL more than a few times and I do recall most people that have been there for ages have more than a few small collectible bottles :)
This was .. in Summer I believe?
https://www.amazon.com.mx/Coca-Cola-Sin-Az%C3%BAcar-Creations-Marshmello/dp/B0B59XNYQR
I use high fidelity plugs, they are great. They lower the music without muffling it: Alpine PartyPlug Pro Natural... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074P5PXQZ?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I go every month or so to Vegas clubs and those plugs have made sure I don’t become deaf lol
Do you know that for sure? Because that vest means nothing, you can buy one here
I'm making assumptions but I'm pretty sure if this was an actual service dog, it wouldn't be in the pit at an Excision show. People spend $15K to $50K for service dogs, often so they can save their lives, so they probably won't take that type of risk. A Service Dog isn't a $15K Wrap you scored in the Electric Forest campground so you could show it off to your friends in the pit.
This is the pack I use:
It has a sturdy waist strap and a chest strap that keep it nice and secure when I’m moving erratically. I’ve had it for over 3 years now, and it’s holding up extremely well.
The subs are killing your ears - it’s everything else. You feel the subs and if you’re up front at an edm show, it’s probably not good for your insides.
I run audio and always want to protect my ears. Buy yourself some of these.
Westone TRU Universal WR20 Reusable Hearing Protection Filter Ear Tips - 20 dB Advanced Filter Technology (Blue) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00K6CX3MO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_GMA476RBB52AGW8WRGDT
It’ll bring the dB level of everything down about 20 but you’ll still (mostly) get the clarity you want that makes being at a concert enjoyable.
Knowing your age and gender would helpful.
We did a kiddy rave when my twins turned 9 or 10 and even though I’m old now I still like to dress up and go to shows or festivals so I’m full of fun decor/toys/outfit ideas :)
No matter how old you and your friends are I highly recommend having a body painttable set up. The Amazon link to a set of paints comes with a free UV flashlight that you could take on your outfit shopping trip to be sure you are going to get the glow you want :)
These foam light sticks were a huge hit at the kids party and I’ve seen them at lots of shows and fests since then so I highly recommend.
Search Amazon for blacklight toys and blacklight clothes. You can find fabric paint, tape, clothes, and all sorts of other blacklight reactive goodies.
Nah it isn't :(
I've gone through so many lol. The only thing I can think of is that its unreleased or a mashup that I don't know.
Here's another link btw. I never use vid hosting websites so sorry about that: http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=8z4rox&s=8#.VIulsSuUfQg
Love this. Heard it at the beginning of Episode 207, Pretty Lights - The Hot Sh*t.
Edit: Sounds like the theme from 28 Weeks Later, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i6OtF7daIPM
Episode 37 of my weekly radio show is out now. Features tons of new music that came out recently from guys like Lookas, Sunnery James & Ryan Marciano, MORTEN, Joey Dale, Ephwurd, Herobust and more.
https://www.mixcloud.com/AandSOfficial/as-electric-radio-ep37/
Just make sure that you set it to show you "all shows" instead of "recommended for you" that way you really won't miss anything. Also, check out my mix.
Lyrics here: http://genius.com/Tora-jaigantic-lyrics
I'm so stuck on this song right now. I think it's about a stalker/murderer. Freakin' love Galimantias' remix, makes the meaning more literal with the gunshots and police broadcast, and the cheery tempo and beat makes it all the more chilling.
Hey guys, I found the live set and downloaded it and found the part with that song, edited it out and made an mp3 of it so it wouldn't have Skype sounds, enjoy: https://www.mediafire.com/?mfo5p0nqx0z1v3x
I can’t seem to find good ones at Amazon?
I have DT 880 headphones, would this splitter work or any suggestions?
/u/TheUnarthodoxCamel /u/CaseParty /u/TheShadyJester /u/jake23 /u/FeelWhatIFeel I made new better recording, its melody after drop and its literally that high piched sound, hope this ones is more clear :D https://clyp.it/vhx1kxpw
Thanks for help :)
Have you seen him live? I understand the difficulties of making it big as a good DJ in the scene when you just don't have the talent/desire to produce but that's really shitty if he can't do either
Edit: I just listened to this set https://www.mixcloud.com/EDM_Liv3/10-years-armada-stage09-shogun-electronic-family-armada-stage-on-ahfm-19-07-2014-sh4r3-or-d/
The guy "makes" what I'd describe as pretty emotional trance, maybe slightly trousey I don't know the specifics but this set is literally a generic big room fest. I fucking love big room and I even like generic big room too but its like he just checked the most played out big room tracks list and played like a compilation of all of them sped up and pitched up with a few of his "own" tracks thrown in, no flow or consistency whatsoever. Not to mention he abuses the fucking echo effect waaaay too much. Its like VINAI and their use of the filters
Here's two genres you might enjoy, Drum and Bass and Trip Hop/Future Bass
You have good taste, I play a lot of those types of songs in my sets. Try this mix and this one, if you like either of them I have loads more.
Thanks, I forgot that I took the 2nd Gryffin track out since it wasn't flowing well. There's only the Open Season remix on there. You'd probably also enjoy Autograf and Hotel Garuda, they have a similar style.
I usually spin heavy dubstep and electro, but I like to switch it up and play some more relaxed stuff from time to time. I did two other future house/tropical house mixes that you might enjoy. You can check them out here and here.
here's a juicy tracklist with a mix of classics and current bangers:

Two of my favorites:
Another Brick in the Wall Part 2, remixed by Eric Prydz
Rockit, remixed by Charles Feelgood -- well, dangit it's on this compilation but apparently it's not on the web. Maybe I could work something out tomorrow if anyone wants to hear it.
Here ya go! Looks like it will be released in 2 weeks.

Here's a mix with tracklist (look for button in middle of page) of some more heavy shit.
For the best bass, download the mp3 and listen to that instead of streaming. All streaming services cut most of the ultra low end.
Haha yeah I really love the stuff. Helps that I DJ/Produce and specialize in that and heavy electro/bass music (not dubstep). Personally, festivals are worth it over regular shows 90% of the time. More talent, more to see, longer time experiencing, and the variety of taste is awesome. There's only a few performers and shows that are amazing in a more intimate setting.
Jon really does amazing work in both his aliases. His productions are always crisp and incredible. He really knows how to master his tracks to get audio that most other producers fail to achieve. I'm always finding his songs live tend to really grab a hold of the listener through the quality and place you in a whole different experience.
Edit: if you want to find some random amazing tracks, trying searching BBC Ace Of Clubs in soundcloud or Google
Edit 2: a lot of these suggestions are heavier forms of drum and bass with electro and dubstep elements. If you would like more standard form (like Netsky plays) or some liquid drum n bass, please shoot me a message and I'll happily compose a list of those as well.
Edit 3: Di.FM has awesome channels where you can just pours play and leave it. It's both a website and a terrific mobile app. Something like 80 different channels. Definitely worth the look for the lazy days where you just want music.
Edit 4: Shameless self promotion
Edit 5: TOO MANY EDITS. hah.
Liked the original State of Bliss better. Only place I could find it. Will not let me time stamp it. Starts at 34:00
definitely chilstep, here's a mix of some more. I also have an older mix with some too.

Nah, he's definitely not tribal house. He's kinda the definition of UK bass tbh. See: UK bass vs. tribal house.
Fo sho. Love me some bassnectar.
A good friend of mine got into EDM because I took him to a bassnectar show....and I basically had to give him the ticket.
After the show he turned to me and was like..."that was one of the most amazing things I've ever experience...why didn't you bring me sooner?!?!"

I've actually done well with these Edifier R1850DB speakers for $200 -- Edifier R1850DB Active Bookshelf Speakers with Bluetooth and Optical Input - 2.0 Studio Monitor Speaker - Built-in Amplifier with Subwoofer Line Out https://www.amazon.com/dp/B073W1R4XQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_JZQST76N9A3AVHR1C5Z9
They're plenty loud and the bass is solid even without a sub, but they do have a line out if you wanted one. There are a few in that line too, you could maybe even go a step up from these.
alright so I don't know if there's another one, but the magic word one you first go type interference in the console it gives you the nonsense.
After that you take the nonsense and shove it in the decorder and it gives you an image.
Take the image, save it to your desktop and shove that in an image editor (I used this one https://www.befunky.com/). Play with the color editor and then you'll see some more nonsense.
Take the nonsense from the image and shove it into the decoder and it'll give you a URL. The URL is going to ask you a password which you'll get back in the console by typing brute. I was confused about the password cause I thought it was the opposite of online, but that's actually the password and viola you get a dead end (AFAIK)
Wait... why do you simply think what Beatport says is the final word? Half what is classified in there is mislabeled. Look at all the Strobes released in Beatport, you see? Add to fact that many tracks out there should not be categorized since many are breaking boundaries or making and interchanging elements.

As a DJ I mainly use My Beatport as here I can follow artists and labels that I like and listen to all the releases that come out every Monday.
If you have some favourite artists, try following the label they released tracks on as you will also find other similar artists that the label has signed.
Otherwise (shameless plug) I do a weekly radio show where I play the latest releases from various genres of music, here's my latest show.
I've seen it many times. Sometimes, tracks even disappear of the top for two or three days and then come back. (example: http://www.bptoptracker.com/track/alright-2014-lucas-and-steve-nothing-but-funk-remix/5033271)
Moreover, when I try to access the page on Beatport for these tracks, I get the territory restricted message. (try it: http://www.beatport.com/track/dont-hold-us-feat-angelika-vee-original-mix/5116564)
So I guess, that is really the case. I can't be 100% sure however but I don't see cheating as a reason to remove the track completely. If they removed it from the top only, maybe. But we can't even buy it anymore.
I would reccomend taking a moment to look at this site! Its a genre generated map and allows a user to find a genre and then view everything that closely relates to that.

I also enjoy using this website to get a good sense of artists that closely relate to what you are looking for by inserting an artist and then a second. In doing so it calculates a playlist(on spotify) of 10-15 songs that will move from the genre of the first and flow into the second. It can also be found by just searching "boil the frog" on Google.

Happy findings!
The way I track new (and old) genres is using this flowchart/hyperlink cobweb that lists every subgenre.

It plays Spotify tracks from the artists once you click on them so you can hear a sample. Cheers.
Yeah, he's talking about Aphex Twin's Avril 14th, which Ye "sampled" on Blame Game from MBDTF
No record of GRiZ ever using it on Who Sampled.
Maybe he used the sample in a live set?
People are gonna in here are gonna throw their own definitions in here but what I found out what helps newbies in the scene to differentiate each style of electronic is to check out the smaller subreddits and take a listen to their postings.
I am pretty sure there are more and checking out di.fm can really help you define the sounds for you since they got a lot of specific channels of different types of dance music.
Digitally Imported is the way to go. They have channels for everything. Click over to https://www.di.fm/ and just start going through different channels at different times. Just remember there's good and bad of everything so if one tune isn't your thing check back later.
The 50 tracks was more of a rebuttal to the argument that they play each song for 4 minutes and then outro into the next. Here's the set so that you can see for yourself.
