After my divorce I threw myself into group therapies, and one was about boundaries (specifically after narcissistic abuse) and used this book. I wouldn't put a blanket recommendation on it because there are some pickme bits (too much "communicate" and not enough "block and delete"). So this advice is coming with the caveat that this is purely internal and for the purposes of self-improvement and that your boyfriend's actions are 100% neutral (i.e., he's not being manipulative or shady).
There's a chapter at the end about challenging unhelpful beliefs within yourself. The questions you can ask yourself are:
You can also read into cognitive distortions/psychological biases and see what traps you're falling into.
I just had this problem recently. Some chilled on the side of the vinegar/soap dish but these helped: https://www.amazon.com/Stingmon-A2-Sticky-Fungus-Outdoor/dp/B07XLL463B/ref=sr\_1\_12?dchild=1&keywords=fruit+fly+trap&qid=1627425897&sr=8-12
Stand a couple of them in the bowl and lay a few around the bowl and either they will drown in the concoction or get stuck in the trap. It caught a BUNCH of flies. It's also summertime, so you may want to take your trash out more frequently and use bleach water in your drains and when you wipe your trashcan off.

I’m starting here https://www.freecodecamp.org
I’m gonna focus on it heaps 2021 and hopefully turn it into a career someday but it’s fun to do just for no reason too, it’s cool to learn how programming works even if you just wanna try out some basic stuff!
There's a lot of jobs in IT that often don't require a specific degree (or even a degree), and only need an understanding of coding, databases etc., in order to communicate with developers more effectively. If you can actually code a little, even better.
Here'a short overview and here's a longer list. Research the heck out of them and if you see something that sounds interesting, research some more.
In the meanwhile keep honing your JS & database skills with the many free courses/tutorials on YouTube. You never know just who or what might exactly click for you.
Again, it's not about becoming a programmer, it's about developing a general understanding for the field, which will give you an edge, when you apply for the above mentioned jobs.
A lot of them just need a good understanding of UI/UX and an ability to make small frontend corrections, and they are home office positions, great for introverts.
Never respond again. Ever. It only teaches him it needs XX number of messages/rings for you to respond. Those kind of men only pay attention to actions, not words. (Sometimes not even then.)
Keep it on silent at all times. As someone else said, legit callers will leave a message or at least a recognizable number.
Slowly transition to a new number.
Don't give that to any strangers or loser friends (male or female). Get a google number for those.
Oh girl the healing part never ends and takes the most active work. Days of Healing, Days of Joy has been a good one. This insta account Dr. Tanner Wallace and a lot of content mostly comes up on my tik tok and suggested insta page & when I’ve read it gone “wow that’s literally me” or “I never knew I needed to hear that” so seek it out and the algorithms will provide in my experience

I like Simple Path to Wealth also! I can further recommend this very slim volume - you can also find a PDF of it. Basically, compounding interest over time and invest-and-forget strategy. It gives clear foundational investment advice. Anything else will be embellishments but the core is here.
I'm glad I was helpful. Growing up with financially illiterate parents is really difficult but it can be overcome :) There are so many great resources out there nowadays.
It's very cute! Thank you for the tip. I did a search for more info. I hope this is OK to post a link here. Amazon link with more details.
Yes to all of this. There is a time for everything.
Have you read Wintering? Or When Things Fall Apart?
This. I started tweaking the speed each time if needed (me when I'm wide awake can keep up with faster audio then me when I'm somewhat sleepy) until I could keep up with the pace easily. Now I love audiobooks! There are a bunch of them at https://librivox.org if you don't mind public domain books (classic books can sometimes be easier for me to listen to than read) and your local library probably has audiobooks you can check out too. I like listening to audiobooks before I go to sleep sometimes.
That is one thing I had to stop too, I was making a trip or two a day to Starbucks for a $3.55 americano (plus more). I realized I had to stop, so I brought from home this pour-over coffee dripper to work. It's been stored away and unused for quite awhile. I can get very very hot water for free from the cafeteria and I've been making my own coffee at my desk using this and some store bought Starbucks coffee grounds and it's just as good and strong as an Americano. I might upgrade to a stainless steel one with a built in mesh basket. I bought the pour over coffee dripper from a store for like $10 years ago and a bag of coffee is $6 and can last me two weeks. I "need" my coffee..lol, I have a very physical job and I need the energy bump during the day.
From what I can tell they're the same book. Maybe different translations or editions? Most people these days are reading this version but for all I know the text is identical, so I say get your hands on whatever copy is convenient!
Congratulations on investing for your future! I am currently reading this book. It helps break everything down and is very realistic.

With your hair - you have to start slow. I got over my clean hair stress by picking a day 2 hairstyle that was low maintenance but almost needed a little bit of natural hair oil to look good/stay in place without a bunch of products (money saving being the goal for that element) do I would make a shift to day 2 hair is kinda cute, I got compliments for it too which helped feed my own self approval of this practice.
Because of lock down i can get to day 7 - (I shower with a cap on) this has all been easier for me because I have naturally curly hair and constant washing is killing my curls - growth and natural shine.
Day 2 hair can be "perfect too - if you set the intention and expand your personal growth with it.
I reccomend this book so much: Women don't owe you pretty
We are socialised so much into thinking that the "Pretty privilege" means people will be nicer to us and often we are nicer to pretty people ourselves. When we recognise that in ourselves we have the opportunity to challenge our behaviour and grow. If you're scared or anxious of this (which are very valid feelings to have) this is when you should keep going. Like others have suggested, see if you can get some help from a Councillor, doctor or therapist to build a support network for yourself, investing in yourself is what you deserve and it's incredibly attractive.
Read the book, it will help ❤
I just have to start off by saying the debt load that we are expected to assume in college just to get a chance at a decent job is disgusting. I think the "free intern" culture in the US is also a racket. If they are devoted a lot of time to training you in the field that's fine but your labor that benefits them deserves to be compensated.
I agree with another comment that you should get through school as quickly as possible. Borrow as little as possible but you're better off making student loan payments from your awesome salary than staying an extra year in school and paying for it with a measley college job.
See if you can get a paid internship, and if it's free they better be able to justify what value they are offering for your free labor.
Get frugal. List out all your regular bills and expenses and ask how you can lower it. Don't ask whether you can or not, just ask your brain how and you'd be amazed at the creative answers it comes up with.
Maybe , while in school, you can f*ind ways to earn money that aren't a limited your time/labor for $$ structure*. As an accountant major, maybe you can host workshops on accounting advice...for a little more effort you can recruit more attendees, whereas if you work one on one with individuals you limit yourself. I have a photographer friend who sells some of her work on Etsy. She outsourced the printing, shipping and framing and it brings her at least $1,000 a month for literally maybe 2 hours of work a week. I use her as an example but translate this into your own strengths and skills that other people seek out.
I think your situation provides an excellent challenge that will better serve you in your career. Depending how clever and resourceful you are, it could be something to mention in a resume/interview, like that dude who funded his Harvard degree entirely on scholarships.
Thank you!
I love that jewelry mirror! I put these trays together with this organizer that fits perfectly in the largest tray.
If you haven't met already, let me introduce you to r/Indiemakeupandmore! It's quite the rabbit hole but there's a ton of threads on the sub about where to start and what brands offer sample sizes to get you started. So far I've tried Alkemia, Firebird, and Poesie. And Poesie has some wonderful teas!
Tea is a great replacement. I like peppermint herbal tea, 0 caffeine and good for your digestive system.
My mom replaced her coffee with this stuff when she was trying to work on her inflammation issues and liked it. I'm not a coffee drinker so I cannot compare, but it wasn't bad tasting at all when I tried it.
! Languages sound so cool to learn! I speak Spanish in case you wanna practice more :D
That's fine you don't know much, I didn't either and I still don't know lots, yet I'm working as developer haha
Javascript is used to interact with the elements of HTML (for example making a slider or changing a text in a button).
The 3 parts that are frontend development in websites are HTML + CSS + JS.
There's an amazing page (I don't know if you know it already) https://www.freecodecamp.org/ here you can find lots of tutorials and it's actually a good road map.
There's few videos of what web development is. This guy is one of my favourites.

How is your knowledge of HTML at the moment?
Yes, Anki is great, and Memrise is like a gamified version of Anki. They'll try to push you to the paid membership, but you can just stay on your free account forever, that's what I do. You can make your own deck (import it by copy/pasting from Excel) and share them it you want to.
It is possible to work on IT without a formal degree.
I know several women of all ages that entered IT later in life, both via some quick one/two year acceleration course and via self-training. The only requirements are: wanting to learn and having time to learn.
There are many scholarships online to teach women how to develop, if you can't pay for some training. Some of those scholarships are run by the same companies that just want to hire women and can't find enough in the job market. Some are run by NGO that want to help fix the gender gap.
May I suggest you to search for some local Women in Tech (WiT) Association and ask there?
It would be much easier to get in touch with someone close to you that can point to local resources. I can only point you to resources online (like https://www.freecodecamp.org/) but they are not the most straight forward. FreeCodeCamp is a very good one, but it is so big it can be overwhelming without someone guiding you.
If you can't find any WiT association nearby, you can also search for some tech community around you and go there to ask. Websites like meetup.com are full of them. You may even find some mentor there. But a WiT association is always better, more friendly.
I keep some puzzle games like this in my desk. Sometimes I take a walking break or play with one of these when I'm burned out on looking at screens or stuck on a problem.
I really like the following book and author Beverly Engel I think, hope the link works The Emotionally Abusive Relationship: How to Stop Being Abused and How to Stop Abusing https://www.amazon.ca/dp/150126205X/ref=cm_sw_r_awdo_navT_g_SDAMVQ9F6JR3PNRW8CVD
Is it possible you may have ME/CFS? I'd recommend looking into treatments for that. I found this book was a pretty good starting point, but there's a lot of possible treatments out there: https://www.amazon.com.au/Fix-Your-Fatigue-resolving-reclaiming-ebook/dp/B01MSAMFKC
The thing that has helped me the most is going keto/zerocarb, but it varies from person to person. Good luck!
This may be vague, but something to consider is understanding that you will be shifting away from the structure, quantitative metrics (pay, KPIs, performance reviews, etc) and expectations that come with the corporate world, and now the structure, definition and rate of progress, as well as more qualitative metrics of progress (like work life balance, decreased stress, comparison to others in corporate title jobs, etc)will all be defined by you. This would likely be a good thing in your case, but there's definitely a lengthy period of ambiguity you have to learn to be comfortable with this, and probably helpful to plan ahead for.
The ideas you listed sound like you could start small while still working for a stable income, and pursuing your new endeavor on the side. Controversial, but I think it's one of the best ways to break into an entrepreneurship. I recently took an Entrepreneurship class and would recommend the textbook to consider different aspects of self employment, it was immensely helpful, particularly the worksheet activities to flesh out different ideas.
I'm so glad you're doing well, OP! The career stuff sounds amazing but finding people for coffee is also a big deal. I've found that stuff hard to do :) I have also been doing some dopamine fasting and it's working really well for me. I was learning about it through Andrew Huberman, who I found through some people on here (thanks guys!). I hope it works well for you! Keep us updated.
I returned my foster cat today. She'd only been with me for less than a month, but I'm gonna miss her little face and her cuddles so, so much. Caring for her after her surgery and getting her ready for adoption was so good for my mental health and even though it is bittersweet, I know she'll find a great home. I will resume fostering in the new year, after the holiday craziness is over.
I have a lot of assignments due over the next month and I know it's gonna be very tough. I've decided to start hot yoga to try and push myself and release some tension.
I've almost finished listening to The Body Keeps the Score by Bessel Van Der Kolk and I can't recommend it enough. Would like to get back into reading fiction, when I have the time.
I usually wear a bright blue blouse with my gray or black suits with a piece of statement jewelry like a big gold necklace. Or how about a dress instead? I have a few jewel tone green dresses from Calvin Klein. Here's a similar dress, https://www.amazon.com/Calvin-Klein-Sleeveless-Starburst-Malachite/dp/B08JZHYV8P?ref\_=ast\_sto\_dp&th=1&psc=1
There are lots of little hack-type things that would work for this. :)
Meditation is very helpful for dealing with your very natural reactions to stress

I highly recommend this flip lock guard for your dead bolts https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071WJVHWD/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I have it and it was easy to install! Just a heads up, it says it's the black color but for some reason they sent me the silver. Which was a bit annoying, but I didn't feel like sending it back. However it works great! Have fun in your new place :P
Read books, great advice yes. Other things:
Ted talks...informative
Kahn Academy...free and good content
Learn history. Actual history."Lies My Teacher Told Me: Everything Your American History Textbook Got Wrong" excellent book everyone should read. I have a Ph.D. in education. I was a public school teacher. This book was very informative and factual. My Master's thesis was about some of the issues with how we teach history. This book was very enlightening and yes, I fact-checked it and it checked out.
YouTube has some reallly good tutorials and series. For example, I am refreshing myself on how to crochet with youtube videos. Learn a craft. You can trach yourself with tutorials.
I'm using a liquid one from Amazon, a week so far no issues. But I still feel totally exhausted so no change there yet. I'm getting blood tested again in a month, so we'll see.

Not a surveillance device but I highly recommend getting a personal alarm to carry with you out and about. You pull the pin and it makes a very loud unpleasant alarm sound until you put the pin back in. I use this to de-escalate situations that don't really call for me macing someone in the face. It draws attention to whoever is creeping on me and they usually flee in shame when they realize all eyes are now watching them harass me. I recommend Basu brand from Amazon (make sure its sold by Basu - lots of knock off products). BASU eAlarm Plus 130db Emergency Alarm for Camping & Hiking, Tripwire Alarm, Bear Alarm, Perimeter Alarm https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B01ISNQK04/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_VPWH0BZZPAF91SHEN1YZ?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I hope this isn't an overstep, but can I recommend a book? It's called You Are the One You've Been Waiting For and there's a pdf version you can purchase from the IFS institute that comes up if you Google search the book title.
It addresses how we look for partners who have similar attributes to our parents and try to win them over to heal that childhood wound, all without ever consciously realizing. For example, you might go for emotionally unavailable men if a parent was like that in an attempt to prove to yourself that you were always lovable. There's another book called Adult Children of Emotionally Unavailable Parents that makes for a good companion to the first as it addresses the "healing fantasies" we carry about being "saved" or rescued from our situations. Your comment about using the crush as a form of escapism is what made me think of this one.
Anyway, the first book is a bit outdated in that it assumes a hetero relationship in which the woman is leading the charge into therapy, but overall it's an extremely helpful (if not emotionally taxing) read.
These magnetic measuring spoons brought joy to my life. I love them so much I bought a second set.
Get yourself a nice set of pyrex measuring cups like these. Everyone's grandma has some for a reason.
Also, I love, love my stand-alone mixer. Good ones are expensive. I got mine for Christmas one year. I don't use it every day but when I do, it's amazing.
Food processors, I prefer a small one and a standard size one. When in a hurry that small one is great for mincing an onion in 2 seconds. When you are making soup or whatever and many things need slicing, chopping, shredding, the large one is perfect.
Get a nice set of forks, spoons, and knives. Spring for the good ones. They can last a lifetime and if you go on the cheap you end up eating the finish on them.
I like to troll Macy's for kitchen things that go on sale frequently. I got a great deal on my plates and bowls set. Most of their inventory is high-end and way too expensive regular price, on sale is within budget.
The Glamour Grid from Etsy helped me organize my jewelry collection, so I can better choose for my outfits. https://www.etsy.com/listing/112181507/hanging-earring-organizer?gbraid=0AAAAADtcfRIUN4htLpL6q6YF3N1Oo8SOK&gpla=1&gao=1&&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=shopping_us_-jewelry&utm_custom1=_k_EAIaIQobChMI0-yl...
An Apple Watch was an essential add for me this year. I purchased it, and a phone upgrade as well, at Black Friday this past year.
Bullet journaling (dot journaling) has changed my lice entirely. I started with this $14 book Dot Journaling_The Set: Includes... https://www.amazon.com/dp/1615194096?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
so when I bought it it was like $50 but it looks like the price has gone up since then 😥
As others have said, at this point it's best to look for a new job, where you will be compensated better.
A couple of resources that you might find useful:
1) Nice Girls Don't Get the Corner Office
2) A Power Mood
You are capable. You are worthy. You deserve to be paid generously.
Allen Carr. I was going off of memory (it's been like 4 years since I read this book), so I butchered the name a little bit in my original comment. Easy Way for Women to Quit Drinking. Sorry about that.
I found this book really helpful:
Overcoming Low Self-Esteem: A self-help guide using cognitive behavioural techniques by Dr Melanie Fennell.
You can find free downloadable resources related to the exercises in book at the bottom of this page.
Two books I recommend: Women Who Love to Much, and How to Do the Work
love this post! thank you for sharing op.
i've been wanting to get into stem myself. already learned a little coding/computer science/software engineering and such taking cs50 from harvard for free online challenging but great course.
for those who feel like they 'aren't good at math' (not true!!!) i highly recommend the book "A Mind For Numbers: How to Excel at Math and Science (Even If You Flunked Algebra)" or the free course 'learning how to learn' which is based on the book and the teacher barbara oakley is awesome. she flunked math and went back and kicked ass super inspiring story. teaches you how to actually study.
re: algebra i started learning on khan academy and for comp sci etc. i've found that i really need to understand the concept of abstraction - was hard to wrap my head around at first but really seems to be the key to get things to click at least for the basics i've been learning so far.
You are correct, most books are aimed towards index funds, which are good but not the whole picture. I learned a bunch about what goes into how stocks are evaluated from Khan Academy on YouTube (their videos on price to earnings ratios are great). I also really enjoyed this book, which while it is called Day Trading, really does an excellent job of explaining the fundamentals.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/1945051817?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
I also use a stock screener to figure out which stocks really fit my parameters for investment, which I then use to do more deep dive research into the individual companies. I really like Zacks stock screener.
Also practice with a stock simulator! Doing so allows you to test your research and theories without risking any money up front. Once you have practiced and really gotten your methodology down, you can move forward with putting real money in the market. There are lots of stock simulator apps; I like Stock Trainer.
Hey! You make perfect sense, but I actually typed it and printed it out, and then I just taped it to one of the blank note pages in the front of the planner, lol. But the planner I use is this one - I still highly recommend it, even though it’s just a regular planner that you write in manually
this book is more old school so some of it may be outdated but the principles apply today: https://www.amazon.com/MEET-RICH-Business-Friendship-Romance-ebook/dp/B005SZ15P6/
Marpac —the one with ten level adjustments that can be controlled through your phone for noise machine (the others were not loud enough)
Looks like there is a major sale on them right now
-Bose quiet comfort 35 are the most comfortable
-Apple air pods, because they are convenient
-also use macs soft foam ear plugs, I got the women’s brand because they are thinner and they work a lot better
Hope that helps
This book is truly excellent for this. It’s really long but I read the whole thing and made extensive notes on it. Maybe I can figure out how to put them in a google drive for everyone’s benefit.

40 over 40: 40 Things Every Woman over 40 should know about getting dressed
My mom had this book when I was 12 and I must have read it 6 times. The title should be ignored- the advice is not just for women over 40. It has so much great insight in how to look polished and chic.
My other favorite style book is Style by Kate Spade. It was more of a lifestyle book with so many cute details and great notes.
https://www.amazon.com/How-Talk-Kids-Will-Listen-ebook/dp/B005GG0MXI
This may seem like a weird book to suggest, but it's helped me acknowledge and navigate negative self talk. Perhaps it could help you, too.
Just in case anyone lurking was wondering what mats I bought my daughter to include some of my hobbies in her play time:
I bought these off Amazon but obviously buy where you feel comfortable.
For guitar practice- Baby Einstein Magic Touch Ukulele Wooden Musical Toy, Ages 12 months + https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07R1YNQWD/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_LvdmFbK82PEWT
For “painting” - My First Crayola Touch Lights, Musical Doodle Board... I can’t link it for some reason. I picked this because she still puts everything in her mouth and while some fingerpaints are nontoxic I still worry about her eating it.
To learn French I bought three sets of picture cards- My First Touch and Feel Picture Cards: First Words (My 1st T&F Picture Cards) https://www.amazon.com/dp/1465468137/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_otdmFb4T6SYA1

Thank you ladies for your awesome input. 🙏🏻
I use a similar one from Amazon and love that it syncs to my phone for goal tracking. Here is the link.
I bought this one on amazon about a year ago. It syncs to my phone easily and I've had no issues with it. The app has all the information I need and more. It syncs with Apple Health and my LoseIt app.
It looks like my model isn't available right now but a newer one is. Similar pricing too.
🚨🚨🚨 PLEASE watch the documentary "Anonymous Fathers Day" on Amazon or YouTube first! 🚨🚨🚨
Your child has the right to know who their father is and where half their genetics comes from. You must be prepared for the fact that your child can grow up and resent the fact that you considered half of their genetics to be unimportant enough to be anonymous.
If you go forth with IVF, choose a sperm donor that your child can contact once they turn 18, and a donor that you know the FULL NAME OF.
This is to prevent your IVF child from dating one of their half siblings. Sperm donation in the U.S. is severely unregulated, and it's easy for men to lie about who they are.
If you don't even have the time to watch the documentary, then you don't have the strength of will to raise a donor-conceived person humanely. 😬😬
Edit: If you're in the U.S., please consider using Canadian sperm instead of American. Canada has outlawed anonymous sperm donations for many GOOD REASONS. 🇨🇦🇨🇦🇨🇦
