I think you are confusing hangouts with Google Voice: https://voice.google.com/about
Although at one point I think there was a link in hangouts to use google voice to make a call.
I've been in a similar situation. As far as showing you have ties there isn't much else you can do on a resume beyond a local phone number and address. I think you can get an 808 number in Google Voice that ties to your current line (I have one out of state tied back to my 808): https://voice.google.com/about
I know other people will caution you against using a local address that isn't yours, but if you can be notified by family when something arrives you'd be good; alternatively, you can open a mailbox at a UPS store remotely (again, I've done this on the mainland coming from Hawai'i). Remember, you're not likely to receive any mail until you're hired. Just be ready to hop on an expensive flight on short notice if they want an interview.
With both of these I'd say the important thing is to not lie when asked by a potential employer. Of course, if they're asking then you have a chance to explain your ties in person.
While it's not a ton, I've mentioned it on this sub before. FreedomPop phones. Get a smartphone from them, or your own smartphone (or maybe even dumbphone) with one of their sim cards and get 500 texts, 200 minutes and half a gig of data for free every month. You can add friends (I used strangers online) for up to another half gig. My last phone from them that I got 2 years ago was a $30 smartphone, and I've paid nothing else since. It uses VOIP for calls, so if you're in an area that has a high saturation of cell use (airport, traffic jam, etc) the calling might be spotty, but even then texting works fine, and the rest works great. They make money by charging for things like voicemail, so I got a free Google Voice number and hand out that number rather than my FreedomPop number and never have to worry about voicemail that I can't listen to. Anyway, saving an extra $35 a month is $420 a year.
You can also get internet for less through PCs For People, (as low $10/month) but it washes out that first year because you also need to get a modem from them.
Never respond again. Ever. It only teaches him it needs XX number of messages/rings for you to respond. Those kind of men only pay attention to actions, not words. (Sometimes not even then.)
Keep it on silent at all times. As someone else said, legit callers will leave a message or at least a recognizable number.
Slowly transition to a new number.
Don't give that to any strangers or loser friends (male or female). Get a google number for those.
https://voice.google.com/about
Sign up for one here. If you have a google account, login and choose a number. You’ll need the google voice app to call and text.
Works like a charm and separates my personal number from work.
I have a device that supports eSIM (Pixel), and I don't have a Sprint SIM currently in device (using eSIM), but you don't need that to have two numbers on your Sprint (or any carrier device).
Go to Google Voice, get a free number (you can change this number, or port a number in to it if you like) install the Google Voice app, forward incoming calls to your device. Set it for data and wifi calling. And setup your preference for outbound GV calls.
The GV number is free, as is Google Voice. Free unlimited calling in US/CAN, unlimited text (MMS/SMS).
If you want dual SIM, you will have to find another carrier that supports eSIM, and then use the physical Sprint SIM whilst using the other carrier's eSIM.
Technically, I suppose I can have three numbers on my Pixel. (SIM/eSIM/Google Voice).
Create a google voice number. She can check messages on the app or website. (You can have the text and voicemails forwarded to her phone but that will get disruptive.)
A big thank you to her and all the workers keeping us alive!
Something like Google Voice. It’s a good option for those that don’t want to give out their actual phone number to a stranger. I only give out my number after date one and I know I want to keep talking to the person. Otherwise I think Google Voice is a smart route to take.
It comes through as a standard text message in the US. There is no extra fee or charge.
Most cell phone carries do extra charges in two cases:
1) You have a limited number of texts per month and you go over
2) The text message is sent through your data plan and you don't have a data plan.
But neither of these things apply to the texts fetlife sends if you are in the US.
Here is what the fetlife text will be like (from a throwaway account I made through google voice): Link
And google voice can be done on any computer, not just your phone. Meaning you don't need to download a special app from the app store. If you don't have a computer, you can easily access one at a public library for example. Here is the link to google voice for your computer.
Google voice is not available in all countries, but I'd try the computer version anyway to rule out it being a mobile phone compatibility issue.
Bad idea. Practically nobody reads newspapers anymore. Is the boyfriend in his 50's? If you go that route there is also the possibility of being sued for libel. Make sure you have evidence.
Google has a service where you can get temporary phone numbers for text messaging. Use that. Text or voice. Definitely tell the boyfriend.
This guy sounds like a major creep! Drop out of social media for a while, get a new number and give it to just a select few people. You could get a Google phone number to use on your current phone.
This is a good reason to get a Google Voice number for any non-personal contacts. Assuming it's an option where you're located, of course. Not only does it provide call-flow options your standard cell number may lack, it also has the added benefit of being transient so you're free to ditch the number at any point and change to a new one.
Already landed that job you were after? Abandon the number and get a new one. Need a number to provide for the contractor you just hired but simply don't feel like handing out your personal number? Give them the GV number and swap it out once the work is complete. Just met someone new and want to hang out again but aren't quite 'there' with sharing personal contact info? GV's got you covered. If shit turns weird, it's easier to burn that number than your personal one.
Sure! Unless you already have a Google phone (in which case, you're stuck with that number), you can create one via your Google account at https://voice.google.com/about and download the app to your phone. I actually made mine for an unrelated reason, but I kept it for dating apps because it's not listed on any websites with my face next to it or anything like that.
You can use Google Voice or textnow were the two suggestions. I haven't used either of them yet but I'm sure I will for call forwarding so I'm reachable even when not on WiFi.
I also have a Office 365 subscription which comes with 60 Skype minutes each month for free. I cannot receive calls on my phone number through Skype but outgoing calls use my cell phone number (you have to set this up in the Skype settings).
> I think I still don't get it really but I also never heard of Google Voice either
Google Voice is a free (for personal use) VoIP service like Ooma or Vonage. When you sign up, you get a real phone number with SMS text messaging capabilities.
You use the service with an app on your phone and can even forward the GV number to an actual phone number - both cell and landline. To get the GV service, you have to register with your Google/Gmail account and add your mobile number. They will send a verification code to your REAL mobile number to validate.
This is what the scammers are after. They will ask for your mobile phone number and use that to register a new account. Google will then send the verification codes to finish account creation. You give those to the scammer and voila! The scammers have a clean Google Voice account but attached to your phone number. When they scam people and if an investigation happens, you're the one who must deal with the fallout, not them because it's YOUR mobile that's attached to the service.
I personally use a "burner" phone with just voice and SMS to do Mercari/OfferUp and eBay transactions. It's to add a layer of security between me and scammers and a method to keep my "real" phone number clean (as much as it can) from text message SPAM. You can do this with Google Voice. All these selling platforms want your mobile number; instead of giving out your personal number, you can sign up for GV and use that number instead.
While I have a physical "burner" phone with a different number, I also have GV as a third level of protection. I don't use it much, but if I run into a questionable character on OfferUp or Craigslist, that's the number I give them.
Your question is very specific. You can use (for example) Sudo or Google Voice to setup a virtual phone number or you go into a country where you don't need to register your personal data to use a phone number. Or you just buy a second sim-Card...
Or you get your friends to Signal and co. ;)

Get a Google Voice number. Go to the end of the page, click Get Voice. Select Android, IOS, or Web.
You may have to create a Google account if you don't have one.
Have you tried Google Voice? If what you want its just a 2nd number, to call sometimes someone or places without your personal number, this is very good and also free. Another option is to hide your number by putting *67 before the the number you’re calling (peoples mostly will reject that call, business will answer)
GV - Google Voice - is a number you can sign up for with Google. It allows call delivery to multiple phones along with txt messaging and voicemail. https://voice.google.com/about
DND = Do Not Disturb. On your phone or GV you can set hours will your phone won't ring/buzz.
Sorry to hear you're going through that.
If you don't have a phone that can make a call or text, connect your current one to WiFi and sign up for Google Voice. That's what's most important right this minute so you can get in touch with your husband.
https://voice.google.com/about
Also, keep in mind 911 will work even if your device is not activated (911 won't work through Google Voice, but should work through your device itself).
Then, if you haven't already, message Sprint on Facebook or Twitter.
Next, create your own post explaining what you just said, and maybe someone here can assist.

*Actually, Google Voice will require verification, so that suggestion won't work. Sorry about that!*
No need for sad faces! Pretty sure they're free. Just go here https://voice.google.com/about and go through the steps. You'll need a Google account, but if you don't have one of those, those are free also.
The only modems that's will have the connection for their phone service is the ones that they provide.
Keep using the spectrum one untill you cut the cord from your house phone.
Side note, if you're only reason for keeping the home phone is that you don't want to lose the number then I would recommend porting the home phone number over to Google Voice. $20 one time port fee, no monthly charges.
Wow, people are being stupidly unhelpful this time. Google voice allows you to get a free phone number that works for fetlife. You will have to tie it to your regular phone number just to verify that you are indeed a real human. But you can disable call/text forwarding. So the text will only appear on your computer.
Here is the link
1 - The easiest way around this is to get a Google Voice number. It is absolutely free and can be used as a 'throwaway' phone number. You can have the number forward to your actual phone (for example, if they have to verify the number is legit), but you can also have it function as voicemail-only (it will never ring your phone). No spam calls ever.
2 - Try to look for the same products on AliExpress. To me it is a simpler interface and I have never had the problems that I had with Alibaba. Most of the vendors are the same (though they may use a different name). Bonus, you don't actually have to sign up for a vendor account. However, I have not automated any dropshipping through either of them - I only use them to actually buy stock and have it shipped to me. Others may can comment on any automation if you need...
You can get a phone number with Google Voice, and then use it in conjunction with a device like this to use it with a phone handset.
There's the possibility of scammer's trying to collect your personal info, but the longer you talk the less likely that's going to be the case. There's also the problem of crazy people getting your number and calling at 2am from every pay phone or borrowed cell within 50 miles after you start trying to block them.
You can check out Google Voice if you want a regular looking phone number. You can also just use chat apps like Google Hangouts or Skype which avoid the hassle of phone numbers.
Speaking of going NC and cell phones:
Once his phone situation is settled, your SO should set up a phone # via Google Voice, and have that be the telephone # he gives out to people. His "real" phone # should be kept very, very secret, as if it was a nuclear missile launch code.
That way, if his phone number somehow manages to make its way back to his parents--and let's face it, mistakes happen--they'll be trivially easy to block or ignore. And he can always deactivate that Google # if needed.
