The Amazon Canada page for this book has the most snark-tastic review from someone who read all 648 pages of this holy Christian doorstopper and apparently the RANDOM ALL CAPS AND QUESTIONABLE WORD CHOICES are all through the text.
This sounds so much like this cultish thing called Biblical Patriarchy. Have you guys heard of that? It is really big in the homeschool movement where men need to get back to their place in society as leaders and controllers. It is very dangerous imo. When I was married my wife saw this guy named Doug Phillips speak about this at the homeschool conference in Missouri and she brought home so much of his propaganda afterwards. She literally spent $200 on his Biblical patriarchy shit and played the tapes for me and said she wanted me to be more like that guy. I said I didn't like the sound of that guy at all and I think its dangerous to teach our daughters that kind of thing. Turns out I was right and he was fucking his 17 year old nanny. So much for Biblical patriarchy right?

A book I found invaluable was Why Does He Do That? by Lundy Bancroft. I never thought my ex was abusive; I just thought he was a dickhead. Reading about the patterns of anger I was shocked into recognition. It was devastating in its way... But helped me to detach, eventually.

Depends on the kind of dog. A lot of dog toys are more or less meant to replace a natural activity so that a dog can follow their natural urges. It's kind of like how a herding dog might have never seen sheep, but they'll try herding people or toys or whatever because they just somehow need to. My dog has a high prey drive, and she's basically programmed to want to kill small things. For the most part, I can't let her do that, but I can give her squeaky toys. Plus, the only toys that I can give her unsupervised access to are Kongs (which she's not interested in unless they actually have stuff in them) and some kinds of squeaky toys so she kind of needs them because I can't give her 100% of my attention 100% of the time. There are also different kinds of squeaks in squeaky toys (like some that sound like a duck or chicken instead of squeaking etc.). Then there are crackle toys (these are great) that sound like squeezing an empty water bottle (reminds dogs of crunching on small animal bones); I'll give them to my dog when she's trying to squeak things but I need to be able to hear something like a phone call or video conference. Supposedly there are also ultrasonic squeaky toys that humans can't hear, but I've never tried them.
TL;DR Whether or not dogs need squeaky toys depends on the kinds of natural drives they have. If it's specifically squeaking you have trouble with, there are other options that will fulfill the same need.
They are not to my knowledge. I grew up with the Pearl's books as well as these

Amish and Mennonite are anabaptist and generally popular among the more conservative. Most Baptist fundies profess to want simple lives that are close to historical cosplay, Amish and Mennonite would comply with these ideals but it's difficult to convert into the groups at times. If you're not familiar with Charlotte Mason home school curriculum I suggest looking into that and the good and the beautiful. Other ones that fit this ideal but are not recognized as well as ATI are beautiful feet and memoria press (which I grew up with). They are beautiful curriculums with very classic looks but hidden underneath is an extremely patriarchal message. The now defunct vision forum was well known for supporting several of these.
Hey OP! This is a little off topic but I hope it helps you. I wasn't raised fundie, but I've recently been learning about Childhood Emotional Neglect and realized how prominent it was in my childhood. I think a LOT of fundie families unknowingly promote this sort of emotional suffocation. It can happen intentionally (narcissistic parents) or unintentionally (emotionally absent parents who just think their MO is the norm.)
My parents did their absolute best, but I still had complex emotional needs that they couldn't meet. I don't blame them, but it's helpful to recognize the patterns.
If you need resources, I've found Dr. Jonice Webb to be a leading voice on the topic. She has a book called Running on Empty which I'm reading right now. It explains so much.

Me too I'm very skeptical about the rumor. Consider this, Ellissa and Rebekah went to Dallas over the weekend to a church conference, on Sunday Tim proposed and had a dinner celebration and if you look on Suzanna's VSCO that Sunday afternoon she was hanging out with her parents in a coffee shop. In 2005 her mother lost her baby, and being this her daughter's first baby I don't think she would be calmly sitting down in a coffee shop knowing there's some issues with her grandson. Also, Kristen recently miscarried and we all know how much she wants a baby, I don't think she'd be in the mood to do social media, lives etc knowing her sister-business partner is going through that. All in all, it would take a heck of a cold hearted family for something like that to happen. I'm just gonna hope for the best she's ok and they just want some privacy.
Now you need to watch Gloriavale: The Return. See how Dove and Watchful get along, etc.

Thank you so much for sharing your experience. If you haven't yet read it, the memoir Girl at the End of the World by Elizabeth Esther is sooooo good - it's about her journey out of a deeply abusive and controlling fundamentalist cult.
Oh man I am going down this rabbit hole. In part 2 of Morning Routine the blanket training is so evident as the kids (mostly) remain on that blanket, on their backs (even the 3 year old!) for SO LONG while she makes bottles, brushes teeth (also I know its sped up but those little ones teeth were not well brushed), and gets them dressed. Have you ever laid on a marble floor (let alone with your head so close to a brick wall)? It is so not comfy. That three year old must be really blanket trained to have that kind of patience every morning.
Also, at breakfast the 3 littlest who can eat solids did not have their grapes cut up! I watched a four year old choke on a grape (saved by the neighbor whose house we were at), and then again in college saw my friend’s little brother choke on a grape (she swept in with that Heimlich immediately), so I def have babies with grapes paranoia. Cut your little one’s grapes, people!
Wtf does Paul do for a living? Because that house is NICE.
I also looked at Leonardo and his wife’s instagrams and I’ll give the family this much, between the Morning Routine videos and Leonardo’s insta it appears the older kids really love and enjoy their younger siblings, and it doesn’t look like they have sister-moms or brother-dads, or even a buddy system, so atleast there is that.
Anyone know the kids ages? Seems like the little ones and the biggest ones are all close in age, but like they slowed down a bit in the middle maybe?
EDIT: Paul (the dad) has a podcast! Definitely religious, can’t bring myself to listen to it, maybe one of you can. Here is a link

I am so so sorry you had to put your dog down. I feel like let’s take on a hike knew special meaning when you are chronically ill.
Also, I would look up “emesis bag” on Amazon. They are disposable bags for throwing up. This is going to sound so weird, but picture a large condom. The open end is a hard ring. The rest is a touch plastic. Several ERs in my area use them. You hold the ring to your mouth and throw up into the bag. Then you throw it away. These have been a life changer for me. They come without being stretched out first (similar to a condom) so they can be stowed in the car, purse, wherever. And unlike solid pans/trash cans/etc., it’s easy to keep one in bed with you if you wake up ready to vomit. Here’s an example. I don’t know if this is the cheapest or anything. And they also come in packs less than 50. This isn’t a referral link or anything.
Oh okay that actually makes tons of sense because there are some "pioneer girl" books that look to be for younger kids. Which I would expect from the original books but a biography that's more real and less fiction doesn't seem like something to sit a ten year old down to read. I was trying to figure how they turned 101 pages into 400 lol. Someone mentioned this book is textbook sized so I though maybe that had something to do with it. Someone also mentioned prairie fires too. So I added that one to my list too.
This is the one I found. Is this the correct one?

> yes, as long as you use mitts. can't have your hands touching flesh.
Best I can do for you is these pinchy silicone hand protecty thingies.
It's not even like they have to be super duper expensive. In a two second search on Amazon I just found swim skirts with capris in the low $20's and rash guards from $8. This is also pretty cute and under $20. They even have some "burkinis" as low as $25. There are not-insanely-expensive alternatives if they were willing to look for them...
I have seen these little cast iron pans that come with some sort of dessert kit. They have them even cheaper at walmart, even seen ones at the 99 cent store. When will one of these hucksters start selling them as "vintage cast iron" for the cottage core look.
Your comment reads like someone with an agenda to push. I’m sorry that the world doesn’t fit your views.
Biracial children do not get an edge over monoracial (my phrase, to mean the parents are of the same race). Frankly, with the amount of prejudice in most countries, they are at a disadvantage from a career standpoint.
I say this as a parent to a biracial child. That isn’t how I would like the world to be, but from my observations of the world (and science degree) that’s how it be.
I've found my headbands I use, work perfect as masks. They are now everywhere being sold as masks called Neck Gaitor or head bands. I actually found kids sized ones too. They work way better with my glasses and aren't as sweaty imo. Some have better fabric than others.

There is a documentary on Amazon Prime (free with Prime) called A Courtship that is just a giant WTF. It follows a particular young woman waiting to be matched in marriage and also looks at purity culture in general: https://www.amazon.com/Courtship-Kelly-Boggus/dp/B018396PBM.
Basically, a cross forms a bridge to a ledge that represents Heaven because Jesus is the only way there.
However, the issue with the Bridge Diagram is that it clearly represents that you don't need to go to church or read the Bible (as seen in what I linked), so......churches typically leave out that part out or replace it with money, family, works, education, etc.
That's a book from 1982, not peer-reviewed science. lol.
>Your comment reads like someone with an agenda to push. I’m sorry that the world doesn’t fit your views.
Sorry that random shit people wrote 40 years ago is capable of shaping your views. Maybe keep up.
>Biracial children do not get an edge over monoracial (my phrase, to mean the parents are of the same race). Frankly, with the amount of prejudice in most countries, they are at a disadvantage from a career standpoint.
Citation needed. And we've seen what you use as citations lol.
>I say this as a parent to a biracial child.
Embarrassing. Don't do that to yourself. Your citation was already embarrassing by itself. Seriously cringe feelings here.
>That isn’t how I would like the world to be, but from my observations of the world (and science degree) that’s how it be.
Your degree is clearly extremely outdated, given your citation, or you don't really have a real citation or the wherewithal to even know what a good citation looks like.
Hint: citations go to peer-reviewed studies that aren't at odds with modern data.
Edit: My mistake. They seem to have rehashed their data in 2010, still out-of-date, but it isn't publicly viewable. Also, after further reading the 2010 material, your point isn't held up. It clearly states the opposite of what you are saying.
I have the Asperger's Syndrome, further complicated by the presence of the PTSD as a result of domestic violence, and I sympathize with you. I was engaged 3 times because of my difficulty in connecting with others. However, I met someone with an advanced degree in Psychology. He understands my behavior and my need for alone time (I feel drained by a protracted social interaction and overwhelmed in a large group of people and even plain bored, because most people do not share my intellectual pursuits) and my interests quite well. His parents, not so much. They interpret me as being anti-social. But at our age (he is 48, and I am 37), that is rather irrelevant. My advice is akin to what another poster said, but with an important modification: do seek someone who is at least willing to be educated about the AS and then do educate that person about it. Do not just give up. There are certain occupations, such as psychologists, social workers, medical doctors, etc., members of which tend to be better educated about the AS and more accommodating. I would recommend using online dating (I met my partner on Match.com) for a very particular reason: you can quickly and easily screen your potential matches from a fairly large pool of people. After all, even with the AS and the PTSD, I was engaged 3 times, and there is presently a ring in my partner's night table (I accidentally stumbled on it, while searching for ear plugs, but shhhh :) ). So, not a lost cause at all. You just need to change your strategy and your selection pool. Good luck!
Just so everyone knows that isn't a real gun. It's an air rifle that is similar to, if not identical to, this one on amazon. A younger cousin got one for Christmas this year and I'm baffled as to how it doesn't have an orange tip.
The only really good fundie books I have read were nonfiction -- Saving Alex, and Educated by Tara Westover. Both are very Mormon fundie and horrific in places.
Content warning for homophobia, corporal punishment, spiritual/emotional abuse, maybe some thoughts of suicide in Saving.Alex.
Content warning for graphic description of injuries, spiritual/emotional abuse, sexism, tinges of Holocaust denial in Educated. May be more troubling scenes I have forgotten in each, though.
Would one of those silicone things that goes under a mask be more comfortable for you? I haven't tried one but I see them mentioned on reddit occasionally

I am so sorry you had to go through that. You might really get a lot out of the book Girl at the End of the World - I know I did.
Not unlike other fundamentalist religions, actually. Uneducated, welfare frauding , inbreeding, “conservative” voting, child abusing, pedophiles.
I read a book a few years ago called Unorthodox by Deborah Feldman (Amazon link: https://www.amazon.com/dp/1439187010/ref=cm_sw_em_r_mt_dp_BBxNFbYHJHYKV) that was turned into a docuseries on Netflix by the same name.
It’s not about the school board thing, but it gives you an insight into the religion and the culture, if you’re interested.
I, personally, am fascinated by fundamentalist religions/cultures, so I’ll take any recommendations on books/films. 😉🥰
She could easily wear something maternity that is tight/form fitting that is actually comfortable. Something like this would look accentuate the bump and rest of her body, but still let her sit or breathe.
When my kids were babies and starting to eat on their own, we came across disposable placemats like this: https://www.amazon.com/Extra-Sticky-Disposable-Placemats-Baby/dp/B00UZKH616 To be frugal, we'd clean it and reuse them. (Also, we didn't know when we'd find them again.) That was years ago so you'd probably find these in a dollar store these days.
This family is just nasty for kicks & likes.
I am also in Germany, I use NordVPN to watch HBO, Netflix etc. We are on a partial lock down from today's night and Netflix said they will lower streaming quality to accommodate all the traffic that came with mobile work and people sitting at home in general 0_o

I actually specifically bought a drill that came with brush attachments but they sell just the brushes online. Here’s one set of them. But they also have some for different jobs, like some made specifically for your car or for hard to reach places.
Anyone interested in this narrative of submission = mutual respect/choice in fundamentalism should read Emily Suzanne Johnson's This Is Our Message: Women's Leadership in the New Christian Right
I just finished it for one of my grad school classes, so it's reliable, but it's an easy read (150 pages, pretty comversational in tone).
Basically she uses 4 prominent female Christian leaders to establish a historically consistent use of narrative and language by women both negotiating for power within and being limited by these biblically ordained gender roles. She uses their own books, interviews, and TV appearances to illustrate an increasingly more political role from the late 50s to the present.
Her main argument is that progressives, liberals, feminists, centrists and even some of their own party members are often confused and subsequently dismissive of this hypocritical language/incorrect use of words, but we shouldn't be.
There's a well-established precedent that's theologically and politically consistent to them. These conservative women in power consider themselves the inheritors of the real feminist legacy by upholding the position of wife and mother as a position of glory. Moreover, it appeals to a lot of people, especially women who don't see themselves as actively political. A lot of women identify with this.
She doesn't advocate for this at all just to be clear. Her point is that by dismissing it as silly and illogical underestimates their movement and how rooted it is in the US.
Anyway thanks for coming to my 2 hour and 45 minute Monday class compressed into a reddit comment 😄

The names are insane and the moral from what I can tell is women shouldn’t work.
Honestly pie crust is a bit more difficult, but after a little practice (and if you own a proper pastry cutter) it's not too bad. If there's anyone here who needs to impress the in-laws (or just make a tasty pie for yourself if you're quarantined) you should make a pumpkin pie with a full butter crust. Just be patient and toss the dough back in the fridge and take a Netflix break if the dough gets too warm (it's supposed to stay chilled). So don't procrastinate- pie gets made the day before Thanksgiving, not the day of. Even if you use canned pumpkin or premade filling, the butter crust will make your kitchen smell like heaven and it'll blow any pie with a storemade crust out of the water.
Or maybe I just think it's not hard because I'm also a sinful woman with small boobs who works. IDK.
Michael Keller has written a book with the zippy, soul-catching title of:

>Truely helped me to connect with the lord. If anyone is suffering with depression it will help and its one of those books you can read oveer and over with no problem. Its a very important book in the reforming or rehabiliating All. Even when you dont thank you need it. Just a totally awesome book. God bless to all that deside to read this book. Also should be used as a bible study .
There’s a great book written by a Brown student who transferred there for a semester to write about it. The Unlikely Disciple
I'm now remembering that the fundie church we briefly went to when I was a preteen, did this musical with the kids: https://www.amazon.com/Jehoshaphat-Childrens-Musical-Teaches-Prayer/dp/B0010KPMI4
The story is that Fat Fat Jehoshaphat is the king, and he goes on a fast to defeat some army, and at the end he has become Flat Flat Jehoshaphat because he lost so much weight by fasting.
This clip is like a porthole to hell. Kids don't do this kind of thing unless they are taught to. I was a little pale kid with blue eyes and blonde hair and my favourite Barbie was black with curly brown hair and caramel highlights.
I just thought she was so pretty and my parents happily encouraged that behaviour. My mom was thrilled to see me carrying that doll around everywhere. It was this one- https://www.amazon.in/K8070-Ballerina-Barbie-African-American/dp/B000M8WZ7Q
She's not wearing purple tights though ... her legs are made of purple plastic, that always pissed me off but whatever. lol.
I’m not sure if this is helpful but there was a book that helped a lot of my friends figure their bodies out. There was a big grey area around sex because of purity culture so I blame that big time. The book is Pure by Linda Kay Klein, she talked a lot about vaginismus. link here
So incredibly frustrating when your body revolts against you.
My anxiety causes me not to eat which then makes me nauseated, too. You have to take care of yourself. It sucks and it’s a massive struggle, but you must force yourself to have at least 150 calories every 3-4 hours during the day. This will help keep the nausea at bay. It’s much easier to handle the lack of appetite when you aren’t also feeling like you want to vomit. Once you get to the vomit phase, it’s a hard hole to climb out of. (For me, then I still don’t eat which makes me feel worse, and now I REALLY don’t have the energy to make something healthy or do anything.)
When I’m not hungry but it’s been 4-6 hours since I last ate, I force myself to eat one of these: RX Nut Butter, Vanilla Almond... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D3H4CQF?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
They’re easy to keep on hand, and they give me enough calories to stop the spiral before it gets out of hand. It sucks that my advice is, “you just have to force yourself to eat,” but it’s so much easier to stop the spiral than it is to dig back out of it.
This may be wrong (thanks for the new rabbit hole btw!) but i found this on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Gloriavale/dp/B07DJVR3C5
