The age old dilemma of being someone who must dress formally (suit) for work and loves his collection of mechanical watches ..... but unwilling to miss tracking key metrics from my garmin while at work.
I’ve seen this question arise many times on here and other subs (e.g. r/triathlon and r/watches) and thought I’d share a solution that I’ve come up with that has worked flawlessly for 4-5 months now.
I am an avid amateur triathlete and a lover of all training metrics. I wear a Garmin 935. After much trial and error (with purchases of after market straps and bands) I finally found one that will fit that is elastic and long enough to pull over a forearm or bicep. The SCOSCHE RAB19LGB is a replacement for a SCOSCHE HRM (like the ones OTF gives out) but it just fits (needs a bit of working the firsts few times) with a forerunner case/pin. It’s Velcro and elastic and easy to swap on and off with normal wrist strap. (I wear my Garmin on my wrist when I train And sleep but on my forearm or bicep when wearing a mechanical watch to work / formal event.)
The accuracy: after 5 months of wearing it on my forearm / bicep... I have compared and I am happy to report that in terms of RHR, Steps, Calories etc, there is no measurable / noticeable different in my numbers (example my average RHR was 48 for both month prior to switching and the month after). I also wore my wife’s Garmin on my wrist for a few days while wearing mine on my upper arm to compare step count.. spot on!!
This has been a great find for me and just wanted to share with the community in case anyone else has been looking for a similar solution. Link below:
I don't know what details these will pull in but for android (possibly iOS) Garmin will sync with Noom, weightwatchers
Potentially you also may be able to use an app like Health Sync https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nl.appyhapps.healthsync&gl=GB to sync Google fit data to Garmin (not sure it works, I know its supposed to work the other way). And Google fit is in the process of being updated so that it will start to track consumed calories.
The only problem is saying all of that, none of them are better than MFP - its still one of the best and easiest I have used.
You can add stuff manually - set up recipies for it, but its beauty is on how easy it makes it to add virtually anything easily by its bar code scanner and searching options.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.garmin.connectiq
The app is not working for me. As the rating shows I might not be alone
Edit: they updated the app and is now connecting to my watch
Not OP but my garmin vo2 is 58, been up to 61. I also swim and bike and similar ideas apply.
Few key principals.
1) Mostly easy, some very hard.
Look up 80/20 running. Here is a podcast on it https://www.buzzsprout.com/207319/879379-ep-9-intelligent-intensity-with-stephen-seiler.
2) Frequency > Volume > Intensity
Run often (most important), run alot of time/distance (very important), run very hard (not as important but still important). Relates to number 1.
3) Example workouts:
i) 1 hour easy, conversational pace
ii) Tempo run, take a pace 30 seconds slower than your peak 10km pace and do 4 by 6min at that pace with 5 min jog recovery. Progress the workout until you can do 4x10min, and then 2x20min.
iii) Fartleks or speed play, run mostly easy and then pickup the pace for a short period of time. I do a workout where it's like 8:30 mile pace for 5 min then pickup to 6:30 pace for 1 min. Repeat 6 times.
iv) Long run with 5k, 10k, marathon pace efforts. Depends on your goals. Long run can be up to 30% of your weekly volume in 1 run. So if you run 25mpw, then it should be no more than 8miles. This is not a hard a fast rule though.
v) Speed session. Go to a track or flat road. 8 x 400m or 6x800m or 5x1000m with 2+ min recovery between sets, jog or standing.
It's not just a "dumb" backup to the cloud. The data in the cloud is basically the authoritative storage. This allows you to go to http://connect.garmin.com/ on a browser, it'll show you the same data, you can change it, add a route etc., and it will sync back to the phone & watch.
But yes that doesn't mean it couldn't be done in a way that the App works offline!
This App should work:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nl.appyhapps.healthsync
You can't directly connect your Garmin Watch to Google Fit, as far as I know. That App acts like a bridge between Garmin Connect and Google Fit.
That's because it isn't a QR code, it's a different standard called DataMatrix. You can use Scandit to scan this code along with many others.
The item you’re looking for is called a “Bull Bar.” They were more popular on Casios in the 1980s, in metal, not plastic: https://www.amazon.com/Supachis-Protectors-Protector-DW-5600-Stainless/dp/B07RD4HVRR/
I think you’re going to have a hard time finding one that’s specific to a Garmin watch, though the Casio type linked above works on the Garmin Instinct and MIGHT be bendable to fit a Vivoactive. (interferes with touchscreen though so…why bother?)
Regardless, I’d strongly suggest also installing a screen protector, perhaps an IQShield LiQuid shield TPU type that’s sort of “rubbery” and will help distribute impact loads, whether from a bull-bar or just general use without one.
Had my 945 for 2 years and protected it with this screen protector since day 1.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07T1SKKTB/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_RkppzYappGib1
It's a 3 pack so I just switch it once it cracks. I'm guilty of knocking it into things.. I'm on number 3 now.
Screen is still just as clear as without it and haven't had any issues with putting it on or it coming off. Sticks well.
I've never had a Fitbit so I don't know exactly how it stacks up, but I have a Garmin vivosmart HR and I love it.
It has a step counter, a heart rate monitor, it tracks how long you sleep, how much you move around in your sleep, and is safe for swimming and showering. It talks about a stair climb monitor, but it doesn't seem very accurate for me and will say I've climbed stairs from walking a few feet in heels.
It has an inactive alert that tells you to move and while I wouldn't say the vibration is silent because the buzz is pretty loud, it does have a vibrating alarm. There is an app called Garmin Connect that allows your watch to connect with your phone and show the weather forecast, notifications, and a music control - basic pause/play & skip buttons. The band is about an inch wide, from guessing by looking at it, and really isn't bulky at all.
Here's a couple links (although I'm not sure the best place to get it - I bought mine new off Amazon, but I'm not sure if it was this seller or not. Links included for informational purposes only, not endorsement): https://buy.garmin.com/en-US/US/p/531166#overview https://www.amazon.com/Garmin-vívosmart-Activity-Tracker-Regular/dp/B0177V0H7K

I received this one yesterday. Quality seems pretty good, about on par with the original band. They look similar enough to the bands you linked...a lot of these things are made in the same factories and just sold under different brand names.
If you install the Android File Transfer tool https://www.android.com/filetransfer/ you'll be able to access the filesystem of your device.
I'm sure it'll vary by device, but I just checked my FR945 and I have .fit files going back to Jan of this year when I bought it.
1 - Export the file as a .gpx (you can do this from Strava ("Download") or find a current .fit to .gpx conversion tool (not sure if GPSBabel does this, haven't looked in years).
2 - Use your gpx editor of choice. All let you delete errant points, some let you move points. Last time I did this (and it's been a while) I used http://www.gpstrackeditor.com/
Hmmm I see a bunch but it could be us vs uk: Compatible with Garmin Vivoactive 4/ Venu 2 Case, Premium Soft TPU Screen Protector All-Around Protective Bumper Shell Cover for Vivoactive 4 Smartwatch (3Pack) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07ZSX15P5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_DJF1A75YW92DZXQ8MMK5
I've never run without my phone. In addition to being worried that something could go wrong and I'd need to call for help, I love taking pictures while out on runs. I don't find it a pain to run with ... currently my holder of choice is running shorts with special phone pocket that's tight to the thigh ( https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07TYY88WW/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 )
I don't think the fr10 has Bluetooth...
I have gotten a USB adapter for my phone and used this app (android) to upload my old FR610.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.carlopescio.uploader
Carlo provided great support when I needed it like setting up a new phone.
At the time my phone was micro USB so I used an adapter similar to this.

Nearly all the current automotive devices have the Trip Planner app. I recommend the DriveSmart 61 if you want a unit with a large screen and a DriveSmart 51 if you want a smaller screen device.
If you don't mind refurbished, they have some good deals right now at BuyDig.
It's 26:05 for 5K that was a virtual race though, and I was running through streets and a bit on earth road and not a proper track(I don't have the access to one right now).
So maybe that's also skewing results that much.
I thought about using my whole race time and used this calculator: https://www.omnicalculator.com/sports/vo2-max-runners which gave me 36.43 which is closer to Runalyze's guess :)
I've bought a few, and never had a problem with the payment systems. I do use a virtual card from Privacy.com to keep myself a little safer (I disable the card when I'm not using it).
Just use your phone and I would personally recommend the MSW (MagicSeaWeed) Surf Forecast app from play store (am sure there would be one on iOS too) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.phonegap.MSWMobile (has subscription options, but you can easily just use what you get from the free portion and it more than covers what you will need - you get each low and high (can see up to a week for your location), first light / sunrise/sunset & last light, wind speed and direction, wave size/ swell size & frequency/ air & water temp. Plus can see a forecast - 6am, noon, 6pm for each day with most of this info.
The tide app is pathetic. Really just dont bother. Has to have a data connection and will not retain any info that has synced, making it useless if you plan to use without your phone - and if your phone is there - why bother - get far more info from the phone. And it only provides your specific location - so if planning to travel any distance, its again useless.
Haven't tried the surfline one. Have tried a couple of others and some watchfaces, but sooner or later most of them run into API issues.
i dont think so. the forerunners are 20mm quick release bands IIRC, and the fenix line is 26mm.
*edit: but i used these - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08HCH3614 - on my venu(which is 20mm) and theyre awesome, too
I'm assuming you're on android too.
So I use "Health Sync" to send my Garmin steps to FitBit (My family is in the FitBit ecosystem).
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nl.appyhapps.healthsync
I use it pretty straightforward to take my health data from Garmin and send it to fitbit. I know you can connect Samsung Health and Google Fit to the service too. I do not believe that you can read from both Garmin and Samsung Health and write to a third app (e.g. google fit)
Broadcast HR via BT isn't supported on the Venu. I used this app pretty successfully on my original Venu with Peloton, it doesn't work on the Venu 2 mind! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.bipr.treadmill.speedtransmitter
Yes, I had TWO similar scratches (a little shorter than yours but i think they were just as deep) on my brand new vivoactive 4 about a year ago or so. I was so upset that I hadn't been using a protector, but i assumed that an expensive watch designed for activity would have a more scratch resistant screen (turns out you have shell out like an addition $2-300 for the sapphire glass, i think).
Anyways, I got some screen protectors and they completely erased all the scratches I had. You would never know it had scratches. Sometimes it gets little air pockets after a long time (and you can rub those out)... and you may notice the screen protector because of those tiny pockets, but i never see any scratches. I am 99% sure the same will happen for you. But, if it doesn't, I would call/email Garmin and see what they say.
I am using this brand: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B07Y2GVLQC/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and I think I've only replaced the protector once in about 1.5 years. They hold great and work well.
Best of luck.
Are you using iOS or Android?
On Android I'm automatically syncing Garmin Connect to Google fit with Health sync (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=nl.appyhapps.healthsync), it can alsoalso talk to Fitbit.
Hey, thanks! Anyway saw it in Amazon, just searched Vivoactive 3 watch band and protector and selected from there.

https://www.amazon.com/MOTONG-Garmin-Vivoactive-Case-Protective/dp/B07BKTT64J
I bought a silicone protective "case" on amazon. It was around $7 and does a good job protecting the bezel.
I've had very good luck with the ANCOOL bands found on Amazon for $14 or so (cheaper if you buy 2-packs and whatnot). I've closely compared these to the Garmin brands, and I can't tell a difference. Same markings, same screws, same materials, they wear the same, etc. I've used them for over a year and had one hole tear out on one band, but that was because I hooked my band on something, and the clasp tore the band and was definitely not it's fault. I'm confident the stock Garmin band would have done the same.
I bought the following 935 protector on Amazon, but unfortunately it doesn't fit the 945. Its slightly too large and due tot he bezel doesn't sit flush against the screen. So back in the market for a 945 screen protector

I had the aqua band and was not big fan of the band so I ordered the following one from Amazon. It looks very good and also very durable.

This should work for you. I used it for a little bit, but didn't find the data in Google Fit to be any better than what's already in Garmin Connect.

Garmin is great at collecting data, but not so good at analyzing it. You might want to try Runalyze, which can import your activity data automatically from Garmin. They have a more sophisticated and transparent VO2max calculation, and after each race you can recalibrate the calculation based on your result. The predicted race times (derived directly from the calculated VO2max) are then much closer to reality.
It won't even let me screenshot the error message.. it says it's "not allowed."Here's what it says

Believe it or not, but Garmin has reversed the decision about deleting the local fit file, but it may take a bit to be restored. http://www.zonefivesoftware.com/sporttracks/forums/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=18047
IIRC, Motion Based became Garmin Connect. To get data from the 305 to Connect, you'd need to install Garmin Express.
ETA: Once you've got that set up, you can connect other websites (like Strava and Training Peaks) to your Garmin Connect account, so any data uploaded to GC is automatically synced to them as well.
Ah yes, loading the maps from your Garmin GPS is sluggish at best. I believe at least on GPSMAP 64 series it was still USB one I believe… So i download maps I install on my laptop and plan routes only using those, then I just have to sync the trip folder to the device, which is only few kb. As an alternative to Basecamp you could try QMapShack (open source, https://github.com/Maproom/qmapshack/wiki). I quite like it, but there is a bit of a learning curve. I started using it with quickstart options, and online maps. The advantage is that the maps will always be up to date then.

Have a week free trial, but may need to pay for this.
I use SyncMyTracks for activities.
They sell those little silicon covers for the charge/data port. I always thought they seemed silly but maybe using one would prevent the corrosion?

Sync your watch before running to be able to find GPS satellites quickly anywhere. A Garmin watch can track running activities anywhere without needing to update maps. About the only thing that changes is the time zone while traveling that might cut off a walking or activity streak. You could test whether there is an improvement adding Glonass or Galileo. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.android.gpstest&hl=en
Not sure about where to attach a speed sensor on the bike, but you can put the cadence sensor on the pedal crank arm.
Amazon has cheap speed/cadence sensors for around $20. But they will only do one at a time (either cadence or speed but not both) It works with my forerunner for cadence.

I got a bad skin reaction from the silicon vivoactive 4 band and bought the fabric band below and it fits perfect and no more irritation!. Great quality too
Start with a Q-tip and a polish like "Flitz" (which is a mildly abrasive metal polish).
There's an off chance it's just something stuck to the surface.
Jeweler as you suggest would be the next step.

I got the Fenix 6X Pro in June last year and use it to track my walking, hiking and mountain biking. It collects so much info that I can get a really detailed look at all ofworkouts. I absolutely love it!!
t's £515 on Amazon right now & mine is showing a 5x £103 0% monthly payment plan too 😀
Yah. The watch definitely is messing with me. I think that I over push myself because of it. For example, when my GPS drops out and I don't realize it, it shows that I am going slower than usual. So even though my cadence is the same, stride the same, I push to run harder and faster. I'm blindly believing the watch which I know is not good. I just hate seeing subpar performance, even though its not.
I need to stop obsessing about looking at my watch and specs, including H20 intake. I usually drink this after my hard workout days, and even though its like drinking a thick shake, I can down it. My body body definitely is thirsting for it. When I try to drink it on easy days, it make me gag, so yes I should be listening to my body more.

Thanks Hippie.
Thanks for the link I'll get some ordered. To be honest the screen protectors I've bought aren't exactly what I'd have wanted, they're the film type. I gave up trying to find glass ones for the time being as amazon only seemed to want to show me 46mm glass screen protectors instead of the 30mm I'd searched for. Here's a link to what I've currently got on order though. https://smile.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00H48H388/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_XjdcGb1WMWKST
I own a MK2I & the Pin's are removable. I'm using the band in my previous post, the watches pin's are like a traditional watch pin (1.8mm)... I use a small multitool knife to remove the pin.
these are similar pin's on Amazon, just to get the Idea

1st of all congratulations & welcome to the club... 😎...
2nd, all the Fenix & the Descent watch lines share the same band size (26mm) so if it fits a Fenix it will fit a Descent.
3rd I am very fond of the Nylon Straps (aka Nato style straps) & I've been using them since the my Fenix 3... they are durable & breathable & I love the look.
Just keep in mind that some 3rd party bands with the Quick release are kinda finicky & could come loose & you might droop your watch... this is why I always got for the kind without the Quick Release buckles... especially now that the MK2/2I are easier to remove the bands than the Fenix (No screwdrivers needed).
below is a link for one of the bands I bought with my MK2I...
I hope you enjoy your watch... & have safe dives...
Here you go:

Actually the reviews for that specific product are poor but it's the first thing that came up when I googled "electric shock alarm clock"
I have a 945 and the vibration wakes me up every single time. If the vibration isn't strong enough and you don't want to use any sounds, I dont believe there is anything else that can be done with the watch that would work.
I am sure that since I just said that, oversleeping will occur in my near future.
Garmin sells their athletic watches with bands that don't breathe. Silicone looks athletic, apparently. I've bought 3rd party replacements before, I think the snaps line up on different brands. I've had the Polar H7, then bought this strap from Amazon for the Polar, it also fits Garmin.
Edit: But if you're looking for the whole Unit, I just got this ANT+ one that works well with Garmin.
Looks like you can pre order it now in the U.K. via Amazon
Shipping October 5th for £259 or £299 for the 'gunmetal' option.
Not sure if you read the customer reviews...It's not even a 3 star, most say it just does not work well. That rare for something with 200 reviews unless it really does not work very well. https://www.amazon.com/Garmin-Speak-with-Amazon-Alexa/dp/B075H6MFCZ/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1516413125&sr=8-2&keywords=garmin+alexa
Don't spend $200 on a replacement. They're $150 on Amazon. I can't say if it's normal or not, because the device I've had that long is the vivosmart and just short of 1 year.
I have a Fitbit Alta HR extender that I use with my Garmin VS4. Something like this:
I use a tiny port cover I got on Amazon. They're cheap and comes with 10 because they're easy to loose. Might not prevent this from happening but maybe? https://www.amazon.com/LDFAS-Compatible-Vivoactive-Forerunner-Smartwatch/dp/B075738TD2/ref=mp_s_a_1_1_sspa?keywords=garmin+245+port&qid=1559737856&s=gateway&sr=8-1-spons&psc=1
I use this three pack from Amazon, can't even tell it's there, has a nice oleophobic coating and rounded edges. https://www.amazon.com/Compatible-Forerunner-Protector-Tempered-Smartwatch/dp/B07RKM9DJ9
If you are looking for a good starter activity/heartrate/sleep tracker for your mom, I would suggest a refurbished vivosport from Amazon starting at $54 for the small/medium size wristband. It's a small, basic, touch interfaced device that's relatively simple to use. Refurb Vivosport Amazon Link
I bring my phone with me on my runs, specifically to be in contact with my wife if needed (it did happen a couple times, my wife's water broke during one of my runs). It also happened to me a couple of times that I get hurt during a run in a middle of a trail run, nothing too bad and I was able to walk, but maybe one time it could get worst, i'd rather have my phone.
So yes, I'm personally waiting for the 955 LTE and I bring my phone until then. I'm fine with very limited functionality as it should cover all my needs.
Just in case this is what I use to carry my phone right now:

Polar H9 works well. I got it for $60. It has way better HR accuracy than my watch on my faster days.
It connects to my watch and keeps track of my HR. It doesn’t have all the other fancy abilities and metrics of some other straps but I can’t complain.
POLAR H9 Heart Rate Sensor https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08411CZYL/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_0ONzFbQRCK4PR
I purchased teeny tiny silicone covers for the battery port and the irritation disappeared. Turns out my skin was sensitive to the nickel used on the charging pins.
https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B07543XFVK/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_imm_t1_uGQxFbZZNJA9F
Not sure if this is considered cheap but cheap enough for me. I use this pair for my run and they were absolute delight to my run... I just wished it sound better with Spotify on the watch, on the phone it sounds pretty amazing for the price. Not the best but definitely good for its price.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07TTB8S8F/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_P7ShFbNX26MNE
edit: Don't use this if your run requires you to be aware of fast moving vehicle.
Amazon..just ordered the white band as well. The band is almost identical to the OEM...literally don't see any difference in thickness/flexibility.

It's software 9.0. It's happening to everyone. Set watch to stand alone (Phone: off in the settings). Delete watch from Garmin software on phone. Delete from bluetooth on phone (unpair). Then reconnect using Garmin software on phone..
I've been using this: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=mabi.android.gcmrunner&hl=en_US
The reverse version (S Health to Garmin) made me desperate yesterday. For future users with the same problem: after 4 attempts with free appsand a lot of rage I managed to transfer the old Samsung Health (S Health) data into Garmin Connect with the paid app (for 2€ or smthg and u could return it within 2h) SyncMyTracks. :D Finally!
Shameless plug for my own app here...
My new app "Heart Tracker" is available for Android and does exactly what you're looking for... It shows a realtime graph of heart rate, and keeps track of heart rate and calories as well as a bunch of other features. You'll need the Android app and the Garmin companion app as well. It was actually developed using a Vivoactive HR so you're in good hands lol. The Android app also supports WearOS devices for those who don't have a Garmin device.
And you're in luck because the app is $free this week (normally $1.99USD). Check it out and let me know if you have any questions or feedback!

I wear that one in black, but they have a silver too. I like it, did have to take a link out, but it's easy enough. Also, the Vivoactive 3 are all standard 20mm quick release bands, so you have a pretty limitless selection to work wtih.
holy shit, that is crazy!
Amazon all the way, my last watch had a strap made from velcro and it was fairly comfortable, low profile, no issues...until the velcro wore out and it slid off my wrist on a plane and I lost it, luckily it was just a fitbit versa so no huge loss.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Why-We-Sleep-Science-Dreams/dp/0141983760
was an interesting read.
Obviously he's not the be all & end all on the topic of sleep but his research findings explained a lot of why I feel how I feel after XYZ.
The ideal area is 7-8hrs & my experience of getting less than this, this & more than this echos his findings.
Obviously, like with anything, there are exceptions though I will stand by my earlier comment of 10 hours is not something to aspire to, which is a million miles from what you claim I said - which was "there is something WRONG with 10 hours".
Flitz Metal Polish and a q-tip.
If that's not enough, an electronics "scratch pen" is designed to take corrosion off electrical contacts: https://www.amazon.ca/KTI-KTI-70550-Sanding-Pen/dp/B000FN8H52/
Bought these for my 255s. They work well but on one of them the velcro is starting to loosen a bit https://www.amazon.com/Relting-Watch-Bands-18mm6-Relting-16mm-18mm-20mm-22mm-Quick-Release-Nylon-Sport-Band-Adjustable-Breathable-Replacement-Wristband-for-Women-Men/dp/B0B2RM3J1M/ref=mp_s_a_1_7?crid=21G31T9U2ZNS2&keywords=nylon%2Breflective%2...
So did you not search "garmin 255s band." I get a ton of options when I search this Amazon. I've had great luck with all sorts of bands from.amazon. ancool, notocity, tencloud, etc. Here's just one for example. https://www.amazon.com/Compatible-Replacement-Breathable-Lightweight-Wristbands/dp/B093T2BS2F/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?crid=3GHUMYDLIVZXE&keywords=garmin+255s+band&qid=1671208277&sprefix=garmin+255s+%2Caps%2C141&sr=8-3
I had the same, and they disappeared when I bought a nylon strap, like this one on amazon: https://www.amazon.se/dp/B09CQ5RTK5?psc=1&ref_=cm_sw_r_apan_dp_KR1RAHX2FHP5HS7HPZSB.
Will never go back to the horrible silicon bands!
I have bought 20+ different straps over the past few years for my Fenix 5 and 6. I have used Garmin silicones, various knock-off silicones, a few Nick Mankey bands, a few leather bands off Amazon, and probably others I can’t remember. I wear my Fenix 24x7 and take it off only to charge. I currently am wearing it for everyday office work, house & yard work, and paddle boarding; but have worn it in the past while running, MTB & road biking, swimming, hiking, and weight lifting. My favorite bands are the titanium band that came with the Fenix 6 and this nylon band I got from Amazon: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B092Q6KJ5D/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1 I like the titanium because I can wear it in the shower or paddle boarding and don’t have to worry about it being saturated with water but the nylon one is more comfortable but it takes a bit of time to dry.

I’ve had Forerunner F35, Fenix 5S, now Fenix 7S. This band has been the favorite of mine as well as my brother’s and I’ve tried about 20 since 2015.
You need a watch spring bar tool to pop it out.

changing back to garmin connect 4.18.1 fixed it for me and my Garmin Instinct. I know its just a work around but still better than nothing.

Sure. Did a quick & dirty experiment last night. Used an economical cadence sensor from Amazon which I taped to the side of the wheel of my 9.5i Nordic Track elliptical. I used a different IQ Elliptical app (Free) and input the 20" stride length designated for the Elliptical (quick check of dimensions of the wheel, pivots and foot platforms, and would have guessed 18", but whatever). Had an easy connection of the sensor to my Epix2 with the IQ app, input 20" in metric (0.51m), and away I went, with the watch giving me the same rpm as the elliptical's console. Took it for a spin and came out of it feeling like a have a good way to measure rpm, but the app is lacking - it will give rpm and avg rpm while looking at the watch face during the activity, but in the end, only ended up with a graph of rpm, a nice picture but no numbers. I plan to try it next with the F3b app. I may also post a review to the first app, and through that see if the app developer can include more data in the activity summary.
Hope this helps!
Take Care!
Where are you located? I got it from a Swiss seller.
But it’s this one https://www.amazon.de/YOOSIDE-Ultraleichtes-Trocknen-Schleife-Uhrenarmband/dp/B0B7FZ6Q8T/ref=asc_df_B0B7FZ6Q8T/?tag=googshopde-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=615314600313&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=15760317640040382071&hvpone=&hvpt... just one black
vo2max isn't an indicator of fitness. I'm not sure what suggestions you're looking for but Jack Daniels book is my favorite for training. It emphasizes using the vo2max-equivalent paces you're able to run.

I bought one of these for my fenix 5 and have done literally thousands of miles on my road bike with it without issue. I wear an HRM Pro and have a powertap hub and I wanted to be able to easily read those outputs while I ride. The one big caveat is that my version of the F5 only has breadcrumb mapping so I don't really use it for navigation much. Still, I don't see myself moving to a computer whenever I upgrade (someone please buy me an MK2s).
Ultimately, I've spent enough cash on gear elsewhere and this feels like an easy spot to be happy with what I have.
There are several like this. I don't know anything about the brand but the price is good and reviews seem good as well
I bought this cable on Amazon. It does both charging and syncing on my computer. Some of the cables only charge. It is also around 6 feet long.
I have a fenix 7x sapphire and it's perfect for cycling. Just buy the Garmin bike mount for it.
Wash after every workout and try letting it breathe a little, you may be wearing it too tight. If you do this while it's wet, your skin never gets a chance to dry, so always being damp can cause a rash.
Also, try a nylon strap. This is what I use in my f7.
Also, especially on a new watch, contact Garmin. They have been known to send people free nylon, leather, or metal straps.
There were things I liked about the Fenix that made me almost go that direction, but I just can't make the move away from the light weight build of the Forerunner series watches. I also live where it gets cold and the review that talked about how it feels VERY cold on your wrist when it's cold outside did not appeal to me. If they made a plastic based watch with all the rest of the Fenix features, I'd probably have that instead, but the Forerunner 955 seems close enough in features for me to not justify the weight / material change. Just FYI I just ordered the 955 Solar on Amazon today for $450 - The deal seems to keep coming and going over the past few days and it took me about 10 attempts to actually buy it today once it showed that it was available for order... I'm not going to complain about that price, that's for sure. I used the link I found on an earlier post in this subreddit to find it, just checked for it a couple times a day until I got lucky today.
Tons of options on amazon. I bought one and hated that it was a solid piece and didn’t like how the screen sat relative to me, went straight back to my k-edge bar mount. Here’s one I’d try if I was giving it another shot https://www.amazon.com/Thinvik-Computer-Garmin-Adjustable-Touring/dp/B07Y853X1M/ref=sxin_14_pa_sp_search_thematic_sspa?content-id=amzn1.sym.6b029eb3-7d41-4744-b45d-69fe835e098d%3Aamzn1.sym.6b029eb3-7d41-4744-b45d-69fe835e098d&crid=2KZYRISO66TT...
Yeah it works great. A buddy of mine got me one of these for Christmas last year.
There are several brands that sell the same, since I'm in Europe I got this one:
https://www.amazon.nl/dp/B09YNCH1H7/ref=pe_28126711_487102941_TE_SCE_dp_1
I really like it, is light, attaches great
They sell a charger on Amazon with a round base and you just plug it into the port. The watch sits face up on it. It’s amazing and I’m surprised Garmin hasn’t made one because keeping my watch on the charger has always been so frustrating. This solves the problem and it’s super cheap. Amazon
Think it’s a fairly common problem. Had it happen with my VA4 as well.
I had some success squeezing the charger lightly with pliers but it started happening again.
Bought replacement on Amazon. 2 pack for £6. Work fine. https://www.amazon.co.uk/AWINNER-Compatible-Sapphire-Forerunner-Vivoactive/dp/B09F98BG9D/
No issues so far with these replacements. I try to make sure I plug it in watch face down and not move it about while it’s charging.
Other threads on here discussing the same problem recommend switching to a puck style charger but I haven’t tried those yet.
I like the Watch Steward bands, have one on my Epix right now, but these 2 are more like the Enduro band and work very well.
