If you use multiple computers, it is possible to work around this by putting your save files on Dropbox and creating a symbolic link in windows.
This guide explains it nicely.
For comparison, the damage radius of spear's spin attack is 500 for the second charge.
The game's code comes pretty much in two parts: the engine and the data. The data resides in <Game Directory>\Content
. The numbers you're looking for can be found in these data files, either in .lua
or .sjson
file format. They're all plain text files and can be viewed by any text editor (e.g. Notepad). It's recommended to use a syntax-aware text editor to view them (e.g. Notepad++)
Specifically:
Game\Text\en\HelpText.en.sjson
. This is the English localization file. Search for the item's name to find its codename (e.g. searching for Extending Jab
would find out that it's the display name for SpearReachAttack
)Scripts\TraitData.lua
. Search for the codename (e.g. SpearReachAttack
)here.Keep in mind that the numbers you find here are interpreted by the game's code. So they may not mean what you think they mean.
And before anyone asks: Massive Spin gives a +30% radius bonus to both charges of spin attack.
Edit: make it clear on what are projectiles.
Chasing historical accuracy on myth is its own can of worms. Heck, being historically accurate on “history” often involves interpreting how reliable your sources are, even if they’ve traditionally been accepted as fact.
I actually really liked Neil Gaimen’s take on it in his forward for Norse Mythology. Afraid I don’t have a paper copy (Audible is nice when you’re commuting), so apologies for not actually quoting, but the gist of it was that at the end of the day, retelling myth is a form of storytelling, and the author should be expected to add their own meat around the established bones.
Needless to say, I imagine most people in this subreddit would agree that Supergiant did an excellent job of taking the basics and remixing it
If you want to support the developers, Epic has the best split of all storefronts currently. Since it uses Unreal Engine 4, the publisher+engine developer (in this case the Epic Games Store) get a 12% cut, relative to 35% on Steam (source: https://www.unrealengine.com/en-US/blog/announcing-the-epic-games-store). Is there another reason you don't want to use the Epic Games Store?
This collection of Greek mythology is a classic. It has the most famous tales, and it is easily accessible with nice illustrations.
If you want to read The Odessey, I recommend the Emily Wilson translation. It’s a recent translation, but probably one of the nicest there is. It has more accessible language while keeping the poetic aspects. However, I recommend learning a little about Ancient Greece first before you read this one. It makes it much more enjoyable.
Emily Wilson is currently working on a translation of The Iliad, so I hope that will be available soon.
For those of you who were interested, here is the final draft of that paper! Sorry it took me so long to submit, summer classes are kicking my ass xD

Looks like it doesn't currently use an Epic-specific path, so assuming the Steam version uses the same path, it'll probably just work:
https://pcgamingwiki.com/wiki/Hades#Game_data
If the Steam version puts it somewhere else, then you'll probably need to move the path manually.
modge podge is a type of glue/sealer.
this is what I used though in hindsight I would do another coat of a fixative on the marker itself before using this!
The newest work by Stephen Fry is pretty good (especially his narrated audiobook). He retold the entire myth and heroes sagas in his own storytelling style. I really loved it.
here is a link to an Amazon page for it, but I found it at a used bookstore for like half the price. Incredible book, highly recommended.
Nice! For future reference the fonts used in the game are here:
Speaker name: https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Caesar+Dressing
Speaker title and text are both: https://fonts.google.com/specimen/Alegreya+Sans+SC
Title is Medium weight, text is Extra Bold weight.
Looking forward to more!
This isn't an identical font, but I wonder if it's close enough for your purpose?

If you buy from Amazon this is the one I have.

Nope, sorry. It would probably be possible to port it to rainmeter, which provides a similar service to Wallpaper Engine but is free. Unfortuntely I don't really have the time or motivation for something like that though.
Foobar2000, with the vgmstream plugin, can play .fsb files as well as convert the audio into more common formats.
Cloud saves are a new feature on Epic, just now being rolled out for a little over a dozen games. No word on when support will come for Hades, but hopefully if there aren't any big issues with the implementation, it won't be too long.

I used a program called Wallpaper Engine which is available on Steam. (It lets you both make and use live wallpapers.)
I think rainmeter is also used to make live wallpapers and provides some cool features that's not really possible in Wallpaper Engine, such as changing desktop icons. It's also free, unlike WE, which is nice.
Amazon! I can link it if you'd like, I did slightly modify it with some black fabric dye to make it darker. Sexyshine Women's Backless Gown Dress Multi-Way Wrap Halter Cocktail Dress Bandage Bridesmaid Long Dress https://www.amazon.com/dp/B096VNN5YS/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_SKEEHNSJRW737P43X45P?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 it is not for busty women but if you a flatty like me it works nicely
Welcome to the game!
A huge portion of the game is dash and attack. Dashing gives you iframes (invulnerability frames) which means you cannot be hit while mid-dash. So dashing is vital and the button you'll press the most.
If you're new, I'd highly recommend either remapping the dash to one of the trigger buttons or getting a back-paddle controller so that you can dash and attack near-simultaneously (which also triggers dash-attack), instead of the standard dash-move-thumb-attack.
Here's the controller I have: https://smile.amazon.com/Afterglow-Nintendo-Switch-Wireless-Controller-500-137/dp/B07VFCJHFQ
Though I cannot whole-heartedly recommend it because it is made of hard crystal plastic, which if your hands sweat even a tiny bit will make it hard to hold. The paddles are large and easy to press though.
Either way, the paddles take a tiny bit of time to get used to but it's a very tiny cost for the speed.
Here's a more standard controller: https://smile.amazon.com/PowerA-Enhanced-Wireless-Controller-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B08BK27KZF
Notice the tiny buttons on the back around the grip.
It's like a fingers glove with a metal rod going ip the length of my thumb. it's this one specifically.
I don't use it only because hades is taxing, I have a disability.
Here’s the one I got, it took taking the controller apart to set it up, but it’s been such a QoL improvement. (eXtremeRate Black Back Paddles)[https://smile.amazon.com/dp/B095H6WXX6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_AJB1WHEQ4NGBKYA5BKGB]
Mine too!
If you want to take their interest further I can recommend these books: https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07DBG697Y
There's also the Stephen Fry books of course, but you'd probably want to be 9+ for those (and be willing to discuss some genuinely immoral behaviours coming from many of the deities).
I play on Switch, handheld about half the time, and it looks fine. With that said, I can't play a game like this with Joycons at all. So I use a Hori Split Pad Pro, which I strongly recommend for anybody with adult-sized hands who takes their Switch on the go.

This one! It looks like a milk carton
I’ve tried coming it reading texts first, and I’d say it’s better to get a wide shallow view of the gods, heroes, and their context before diving into individual texts.
And for me what I knew of the major stories and gods from when I was a kid wasn’t enough to really track.
Of course this is just personal experience but I took a Greek and Roman literature course and was lost... but then I took a 101 Greek and Roman mythology course, got a great understanding of all the moving pieces, and could read works like the Iliad and not have to pause every three seconds because of a reference I had no context for.
During the 101 course, I used these guys a lot when studying for tests: https://thecrashcourse.com/courses/mythology
I ended up contributing a research paper on heroes comparing sports stars and Greek heroes that, according to my professor, was an untouched area of study. I’d also recommend a sick text book that might have already been mentioned in here:
To summarize my point, wider context helped me dive into the texts without getting burnt out.
You're exactly on pace with my experience. I got to Hades maybe a half dozen times before beating him for the first time in the mid 30s. Just keep trying and you'll get it.
A few bits of unsolicited advice that may or may not be helpful to your playstyle:
As others have said, the pillars are essential to phase two.
If you have a damage dash (Poseidon or Athena) then I recommend clearing most of the urns after he summons them. You don't need to get them all, but clearing out the middle and around the pillars makes his laser attack much less dangerous.
More than any other boss fight, patience can really help. Keep your distance and wait for openings.
Depending on your boons, casts can be a great way to get some safe (long distance) damage on him. This is even easier if you manage to get Hermes rapid cast boon.
Finally, regarding the Switch hardware itself. I know this isn't possible for everyone, but if you play a lot of handheld Switch then you should check out one of these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08FJ7XY3B/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabt1_alPRFb70PV3RF . They look ridiculous and make the system less portable, but if you mainly play handheld at home then they really make it more comfortable to play. No rumble, but I think that's an acceptable trade-off. If you can justify the expense, I'd really consider it.
It seems like there’s two that I haven’t read that are really good starting places! My favorite starting point is my Mythos by Stephen Fry or if your looking for something as just a nice easy read Song of Achilles is amazing. These are the two recommended by other redditors: https://www.amazon.com/DAulaires-Greek-Myths-Ingri-dAulaire/dp/0440406943/ref=nodl_
