1) that location is easy to mount via something like this or this
2) see #1 (no blockage of window and no vertical space wasted)
3) LOTS of space wasted with your method. NONE saved. Not by a long shot lol. Saving 19$ is a positive point... I get that. But you in NO WAY SHAPE OR FORM saved space with a tower like that.
Now, don't get me wrong. I go ham on many of my own hobbies, as you clearly did. But it seems pretty obvious you didn't do it for reasonable reasons. And that's okay... but don't try to explain it away. Just admit "fuck yeah, I did that because I could!" lol

I hate to be the bearer of somewhat trivial news but this antenna will far outperform your unnecessarily huge setup. I have almost every antenna available including the 915 MHz 8 Dbi Rak antennas and these cheap little Proxicast wide ban antennas outperform everything in the omnidirectional category.
For the rak wireless I’m using this one
For the 8dbi it came with one, make sure you pay attention to your antennas connector. They were different on both.
Edit: it don’t matter a whole lot which brand you go with but make sure it will fit your connection type (male or female)
I've done a lot of research into antennas.
I have serious doubts that this one pictured, will be any good.
Of course, the only way to know for sure, is to hook it up to a Vector Network Analyzer.
Not the exact model I used, as this one looks like it uses adhesives. but same idea.

That’s the box and I have a RAK miner to put inside. The antenna is a 5.8 dbi from parley labs and I put coaxel sealant on the base so water doesn’t mess it up. Still have yet to put it up I’m hoping sometime next week.
yes they will work on the bobcat. The bobcat has a RP-SMA female connector so you need an rp-sma male cable to n type.
If you are mounting outside then you will want a lightning arrestor. So since the antenna end is N-type male and the cable is N-type female you will need a n male / n female lightning arrestor. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B078NT5M37/ref=cm\_sw\_r\_tw\_dp\_6TN9CM9CD5QJEQSFR358?\_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 via @amazon

It’s hard to say exactly what happened, but whatever it is, that isn’t going to make a good connection. You might have your hands on a very early hotspot from 2019. Those used normal polarity SMA connectors, unlike the later variants which used Reverse Polarity connectors. Your antenna, though, looks like it belongs to a reverse polarity hotspot.
I would try to find a normal polarity antenna. Helium support might have one from their stock. Or you can buy one of these adapters to set you straight:
Yeah, you can run your own OpenVPN server on AWS/Azure/GCP, give it a static IP and port forward. You can then get a cheap VPN router, like a mango or , and then add the ovpn config to it. Most of the consumer VPN services around won't support static IP +port forwarding (in some cases they just lie outright about having this capability. Looking at you Ivacy).
There's a few decent tutorials on YouTube which goes through the process (it's the same regardless of wether you're doing an off grid set up or not). Should take you an hour or two - just follow the instructions to the letter, and cost about $0-8/mo depending on wether or not you've already used the free offerings on your chosen cloud provider.
Yea MSRP for video cards (Nvidia RTX3090) are $2000 or so. Then you need a computer to put them in -- most will put several in a case. There are more efficient video cards (3060Ti) but they are even harder to find right now.
https://www.nicehash.com/blog/post/the-most-profitable-mining-rig-in-2021
This was posted about 3 months ago and is mostly still accurate. I am not affiliated with NiceHash, but they offer a compelling service for newer miners.
You can also get ASICs (look at bitmain) to mine BTC/LTC/ZEC but that is more of a gamble on ROI. Most have order windows longer than helium hotspots.
Anyways....I think there will be a few people putting up dozens to hundreds of hotspots, I picture new LLCs will be created to put up hotspots and manage the equipment. These companies will captures a lot of the helium market.

it took a month, wired the money from my back to china. i was concerned something would happen but everything worked out perfectly.
In terms of immediate utility, what is it used for? I am not familiar with "Loran Devices" (Will search and read about them).

Edit: This has some answers per a google search. Ignore that it doubles as an ad for something called "mapbox".
Coinex has HNT. It is also NO problem for people in the USA to get an account there, no matter what state you live in. (If you use my link you get the VIP commission discount for a few months, but don't feel obligated, it isn't much). I have transferred HNT back and forth to coinex and it is quite snappy. https://www.coinex.com/register?refer_code=x82zf
Just reposting this with my actual account. The "perfect display" one is one the work computer was logged into.

I totally feel your pain.
I have a wired Rak at my house and lately it would on average do about 1.3 HNT/day and then out of nowhere it dropped to 0.2 HNT/day around 2 weeks ago and just started waking up earlier this week.
I blame it on the network lately. Prior to the 2021.8.24.4 firmware, all my hotspots were ripping.
If you want to monitor the uptime remotely, I use this (free):https://hetrixtools.comYou can setup an uptime monitor on port 44158 TCP to the public IP (keep in mind some ISP's change the public IP from time to time)... it'll ping every minute and alert if its down.
It helped me identify the hotspots on WiFi that were having issues. The wired ones never went down, outside of firmware updates.
Are you not allowed to use straps? You could totally strap it onto the chimney without any drilling.

Use the pole you attached to attach a j-mount to it. Take off the bracket and use the same things you used to attach the antenna to link the j mount and the pole. That should result in a vertical pole.
Or just get a piece of pipe with the correct bend.
Or just use something like this and brace it to the same place you attached the pole.

If you clean the glass thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol you should get a good adhesion with the pads. I use 2 clips for my antenna it keeps it secure and waving about.
The pads should last 3 months or so in bad weather, not sure about the weather where you are, but it should survive most things short of a winter storm. But they are cheap enough (£/$6) for a set of 6, so you can replace them if they look like they are not sticking.

Here's a good (cheap) book on the subject to start your science education:
https://www.amazon.com/Lightning-Dover-Books-Physics-Martin/dp/0486645754
It happens in microseconds. A discharge actually rises up from the ground when the stepped leader gets to within a couple hundred feet of the ground. It's a wide electrostatic pulse. The whole concept of lightning rods is to redirect the upward pulse where it does the least damage.
There's loads of lightning in the southern US where I am. Especially Florida and Arizona where most of the death is. I have a feeling some houses are going to burn down over this, and Helium has set themselves up for a nice class action lawsuit by enterprising lawyers. They had an obligation to educate. Too many amateurs putting up antennas and giving bad advice to others, like in here.
I live very near where some of the original lightning research was done. At this point my house is worth a lot more than the paltry buck a day that the Helium network is giving. A buddy of mine lost thousands in ham radio gear not long after moving here. I'm always prepared to disconnect everything when the lightning looks bad.

I updated 2 miners 2 days ago and "Fast Sync" has taken over 48 hours. When I installed these, the "Fast Sync" seemed to kick in overnight. One miner is closing in on less than 100 blocks from sync. The other is off by 2000 blocks. Both updated at the same time, both using fast sync from the Panther X2 dashboard.
The first (200 blocks off) is on a PPTP VPN connection with a dedicated IP address through PureVPN (forwarding port 44158), the second is using an identical set up with the exception of a shared IP rather than a dedicated IP (as an experiment).
It appears that the assertion status with the network as well as the presence of a stable IP address affects the fast sync time, but that is just my theory for now. I needed to re-assert my antenna height (for approx 10$) anyway on the 1st one, and when I did that, the status updated on the blockchain and the sync status took off.
So, it looks like the network status makes a difference in the sync (and theoretically in the fast sync), but as I can find no documentation on the dashboard and its features (GIT here -
Is someone has ANY documentation on the Dashboard (where the original fork came from, perhaps?) it would be much appreciated.
Thanks!
Wow 2mm is pretty good. Link to it?

You will not overshoot any nearby miners unless they are very close and blocked by other buildings. Keep the antenna cable as short as possible and use LMR400 type cable for up to 30' length.
This is the one I’m using, 1000 Mbps or 1 gigabyte per second. This should be good enough.
I ordered this. I ran out of my old cable from ham radio. has good reviews. Haven't used it yet.
Don't get caught up in signal loss. Height and location are key. I'm running 40ft of LMR400 and it's the same as when I ran 25ft and I rank anywhere from top 2500 to 10,000 out of 775,000. That 0.30w at the antenna reaches 45km every day.

I used a large Concrete drill I had for the CMU block walls. I don't remember the size but it's at least 12" long. You can check diameter of LMR400. Maybe it was 1/2?

5m. extension lead 2 Gang Surge Protected Extension Lead 5m Plug Extension Power Strip | 2 Plug Socket Power Extension Cord 5 Meter | 2 Way Mains Electric Power Surge Protection Cable Multi Plug UK https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B08R2Z8CYS/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_R3S04GP6NXA7MBPDCFYF?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 , DIY drill and screwdriver. And some two side tape 😁. I've drilled through the ceiling into my meters cupboard, then unscruved plug, pull lead via just drilled gap, screwed plug back and connected to power socket in my corridor, job done 😅 - best of this I don't need to pop to attic to reboot (🤞🏻) just can unplug downstairs for minute or two...
This stuff . Rok tape is basically heavy duty electrical tape . You stretch this stuff and it bonds to itself with no adhesive residue and it’s tough stuff

I’m not a fancy man I ordered a LeMotech off Amazon. I may have actually gone too big I was debating ordering the 3.1 x 3.1 x 1.9 haha. The reason I think I’ll be able to fit it into these is because I ordered 10 pycom miners 4 mins after they became available. They are supposed to ship in June but I ordered literally asap so I’ve been hearing early shoppers will probably get them late may 🤞🏽. If you read the data sheet on the website these things are already tiny and once I pop it out of the case it will be miniature.
