Regarding winter, make sure you go out and buy a nice thick warm coat, as well as hat and gloves. Get an ice scraper with a brush for your windshield. Make sure you have a snow shovel even if you're just renting an apartment, as it's not uncommon to have to dig your car out once the snow plows block your vehicle in.
Do you have any more specific questions about the area?
Are you using their modem? The one they wanted me to rent was a pile of shit.
grab any docsis 3.0 modem from amazon. You just call in the MAC address on the bottom of the box and they activate it.
This also lets you start actually looking at the modem since it's yours... and you can view some of the statistics that you can use to tell them to fuck off and come fix the line if it's actually the line.
Also, they reserve the right to have a maintenance window of 12 am to 6 am all week, every week... forever. So if you see your connection go out at night they're just fucking around with the network again because they can. They love doing piecemeal work and not doing a real project... like the two week implementation of subnetting at least southern iowa city where they decided to do 6 hour DHCP leases for two weeks. Made for a lot of reconnects and hiccups, because who does service interrupting work in one shot? It's good to spread that shit out over weeks to continue frustrating your clients.
This barely even scratches the surface. I highly recommend everyone spend 5 bucks and buy this book: https://www.amazon.com/Iowa-City-Postcard-History-Hibbs/dp/0738584029 The amount of cool shit that used to be in Iowa City is mindblowing. There used to be a trolley downtown even. Most of the buildings in the book are sadly long gone.
No way, dude. They totally sell Bose. What more do you need??
Hah holy shit I had forgotten all about my idiot professor for business calc until I saw this thread.. Juan Gatica. Avoid him at all costs.

Jackass writes his own textbook. My T/A in his class apologized weekly because his lessons were gibberish and lectures useless.
This is very accurate - a good number of times it is just the controller for the external drive that dies but the drive is still okay. Western Digital drives (I experienced this with a MyBook) have some stupid "encryption" nonsense with the controller and while the drive was fine, I couldn't do anything with it directly on my SATA port. I'm fairly sure it was something minor, like it wrote the partition table to some memory in the controller. I don't know how standard/widespread that is.
DD will go a long way short of physical disk failure. One hard won piece of advice - unplug all the drives except for the drive you are trying to pull from and the drive you are trying to write to. At least in my life, my level of exhaustion and frustration is typically very high when I get to the point of trying to use something powerful as DD. I once wiped a disk I didn't want to wipe while trying to recover from another disk. It was 2 am and, well, happens to the best of us.

If you haven't signed our petition yet, please come on out and do so tomorrow, Sunday, March 17, from 12 to 3 pm, at the I.C. Pit Stop gas station (corner of Gilbert and Kirkwood)!
There are a bunch of 'temporary' options you could use to prevent them from opening your door. Something like this for example.
I've never used any of these products... they are just examples.
I've been satisfied with my motorola (https://www.amazon.com/MOTOROLA-Approved-Comcast-Gigablast-MB8600/dp/B0723599RQ/ref=sr_1_3?crid=3877ZQTJ8LI7R&keywords=docsis+3.1+modem&qid=1658514663&sprefix=docsis%2Caps%2C133&sr=8-3)
just look for something that is docsis 3.1 compatible
This:
Very warm, not too baggy, not too expensive, looks pretty good.
Link is in the agenda on the P&Z website or https://zoom.us/meeting/register/tJYvcOyhqTwjGtCqO1QzNumjQLM7KKB8Nm60 Encourage you to register for the meeting prior to 7PM. HHP development is second on the agenda, so we may need to wait a while to discuss.
Yes, here is the link. They are quite a bit cheaper than they were a couple of weeks ago. These are VERY comfortable! https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B08Y8QNT5R/ref=ppx\_yo\_dt\_b\_asin\_title\_o06\_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
If you just want plane tickets, it's probably easier and cheaper to do it yourself. Just go to www.kayak.com and enter the to and from locations. dates and how many tickets you want and you'll get all kind of options to pick from. Assuming you can't fly direct, I would note to pay attention to how long layovers are at each airport. Too long can be annoying as you're just sitting around, captive. Too short and you may miss a connecting flight if you're delayed for any reason. Then you're really in a mess. I usually try to have at least 1 hour of layover and closer to 2 but not much more than that.
If you really want to use a travel agent, there are multiple in the Iowa City area per Google.
Are you using windows or Mac? They're probably checking your "User Agent String" to see which browser you're using. I would suggest trying to follow the Firefox portion of this link: http://www.howtogeek.com/113439/how-to-change-your-browsers-user-agent-without-installing-any-extensions/ If that works, then there's a way you can clean up your User Agent String in the registry that you should look into.
My husband and I are looking to rent out our townhome. It’s a private owner. Super quiet area on the north side of town. Pets allowed. Here’s a link We will pay the first month’s rent!
You just missed an organized event last weekend up in CR.
Hickory Hills is great. I've never been off the pavement at Terry Trueblood, but that's about a 2 mile loop (IIRC).
Further afield there's the Amana Nature Trail at the "end" of Highway 6, by Homestead. It's a 3 mile loop and is generally pretty quiet.
It would be good to join nextdoor.com for your neighborhood. People have been posting about this, where they shopped that day and if things were in stock. Someone who works at North Dodge Hy-vee said they were expecting a shipment yesterday or today, don't know if it came in. Others have said Hartig Drug has individual rolls by the register.
I just created a facebook event for playing games tonight @ the Sanctuary. We've got 3 redditors committed already, so if even 2 more show up it's successful. event: https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=125787954172377
TL;DR - Game tonight (6/29) @ Sanctuary Pub 6:30
There are several meet up groups targeting different ages and trade types. You should also check out meetup.com for groups doing the kinds of things you like. There are many that have free membership. Like lastnight one of the groups I am in did trivia at a brewery I had never been to. The trivia was good but I probably won't go back to the brewery during events because it's too small to support it. But you get to have some fun while you are checking out new places!
I think you misunderstood. I never said that all the cases of Italy would be seen at UIHC. They could need all of the ICU beds they have and then some. In a typical year, UIHC receives nearly 1,100 patients by helicopter alone (through AirCare) and only has 811 beds in TOTAL. While there is a network of Critical Access Hospitals, to call them adequate to address patients that require an ICU and ventilator, well some of them don't even have a physician in-house.
Could we be fine? Yes. Is it likely? Considering the number of cases in the U.S. just surpassed 82,000 cases according to Johns Hopkins (more than Italy and China), I wouldn't count on it. The vast number are in the northeast, however it is likely due increased testing.
I predict actual numbers in Iowa are much higher than the reported number just due to the lack of widespread testing.
The Johnson County Historical Society used to give tours at this time of year of downtown Iowa City and "haunted" locations (Currier Hall, the building that contains Film Scence and Hall Mall (RIP), and a few other places). They had a script that they used - you could probably contact them to see if they still have it and will share it with you.
My recollection is that most of the stories could be found in this book. It looks like Coralville Public Library has 1 copy and it isn't checked out. Iowa City has 3 but all appear to be out right now.
Lori Erickson’s Ghosts of Johnson County has the most stories I’ve ever read, although outside of saying the names of local towns, all of them are pretty generic.
It does have a portion on the Black Angel, but it’s about myths, rather than facts. Loved it as a kid, enjoy it more now because it was inherited from my grandmother.
If you haven't bought a fan yet I have a new one of these I would sell: https://www.amazon.com/Hessaire-Products-MC18M-Mobile-Evaporative/dp/B078HFGJ3T I purchased it from Sharpless Auctions a couple of weeks ago to cool my garage and used it once just to confirmed it worked. Its more quiet than a fan and much colder. I would give the local reddit discount and sell it for what I paid for it: $55
All good info, to add to it:
“Knuckle Lights” are also good for night runs.
https://www.amazon.com/Knuckle-Lights-Rechargeable-Lights-Night-Night-Runners-Run/dp/B01GIOGL04
And from the rounds of those icy runs, maybe some yaktraks?
Do you want it to be Iowa City-focused?
Lori Erickson releases a great book called Ghosts Of Johnson County. I read it as a kid, love it, and I cherish my copy.
Would highly recommend.
I used CyberGhost 5 and VPNbook, top rated free VPNs. Maybe that's the problem.
I have no energy to call them. I have literally racked up well over 12 hours on the phone with "customer service" and 10 months later I'm still in the same fucked up boat.
Centurylink has throttled me before with Netflix and their techs straight up lied to me saying there was no problem. Like you, I subscribed to Private Internet Access as my VPN, and things got much better.
I'll admit there's a chance that it was Netflix's CDN or something like that, but I specifically asked the tech if he could check the connection to the CDN and he said "Yeah yeah yeah the CDN is fine - your connection is perfect! You're getting the speeds you're paying for!"
It's sad to have to pay the extra $/mo for a VPN so that Netflix doesn't play at like 2 bits per second or whatever it was buffering at.
Try a VPN like Private Internet Access. See how a YouTube video behaves with that; your ISP will have no idea if you're connecting to YouTube or a nuclear bomb construction website, so they can't throttle the traffic.
It helps crisping the outside while keeping the inside soft. I would love to join your club but alas 2x your average age.
I prefer modem and router seperately. If you go that route I would recommend this modem: https://www.amazon.com/SurfBoard-SB6141-DOCSIS-Certified-Refurbished/dp/B00OMDZAV0/
Mediacom can be great if you live in the right area. I have been in a spot where it constantly fluctuated, but right now where I live (NE side) it is solid. I don't know how it is near the hospital.
I'm in Coralville and we get decent to excellent reception with this mounted on our roof: https://www.amazon.com/AmazonBasics-Amplified-Indoor-Outdoor-Antenna/dp/B01IN2777A/ref=sr_1_1?s=aht&ie=UTF8&qid=1483457612&sr=8-1&keywords=amazonbasics+60+Mile+Range
It was pretty easy to mount because we had a previous satellite dish on our roof and we just used the old hardware.
PBS comes in the best, Fox, CW, ABC and NBC good, CBS is iffy but does come in most of the time.
I know you want local but I've used Amazon for awhile and I have many different blades, soaps, and brushes that work great and don't get overcharged. Amazon.com Van Der Hagen Men's Luxury, Shave Set https://www.amazon.com/dp/B004L4EING/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_BXoVxb2YJ192Q Also seen at Walmart for $25
I've seen one that created the same shapes in general, but was wrapping wire around pegs that ended at the receiver... can't find that one though.
I bought this one years ago, and it worked alright for the money. Definitely a cheap one, and it even worked well after I cut it in half opening the package for the first one I got >_<
No guarantees, but this is a Shimano 8-speed 11-32 cassette so it seems to me like it should work.
