>Nutrition matters for everybody, but you can’t major in it at Harvard. Most top scientists go into other fields. Most of the big studies were done 30 or 40 years ago, and most are seriously flawed. The food pyramid that told us to eat low fat and enormous amounts of grains was probably more a product of lobbying by Big Food than real science; its chief impact has been to aggravate our obesity epidemic. There’s plenty more to learn: we know more about the physics of faraway stars than we know about human nutrition. It won’t be easy, but it’s not obviously impossible: exactly the kind of field that could yield secrets.

Quote from the above study.
>A search using 5 Internet search engines and the search terms Ayurveda and Ayurvedic medicine identified 25 Web sites offering traditional Ayurvedic herbs, formulas, or ingredients commonly used in Ayurveda, indicated for oral use, and available for sale.
The near decade old study looked solely at Ayurveda websites not mainstream brands. This is not a study of 20% of all ashwagandha sold in the US moreso companies who just sell Indian herbs which potentially raises red flags on that alone.
KSM-66 was the brand used in the Testosterone study and the company is considered to have high quality standards.
http://www.ksm66ashwagandhaa.com/quality_control.html
Their material is in many brands such as;
Jarrow Formulas, LEF, Nootropic Depot, Pure Nootropics, Vitacost, Swanson, Doctor's Best, etc. As long as you buy any of these there should be no concern over metal content since the material is the same. No different than buying Suntheanine.
Best value seems to be Jarrow on amazon $11.56 for 300 mg 120 capsules so great choice OP.

They even have a 40% off coupon when you select Subscribe so I'll switch to this after I use my first bottle.

Green tea, which has that same feel-good reputation, has caffeine + theanine in it. An easier way to get a lot of green tea is Matcha green tea which is a powder that mixes with anything (plain water, smoothies, etc). It's also anti-inflammatory, etc etc.
For constant, daily use, I'd say the following:
[1600-2400 mg] Piracetam; Improves communication between brain hemispheres; aids concentration, focus; improves ability to verbalize and communicate; prevents brain degeneration
[800-1200 mg] Choline; one of the best nutrients from eggs, works synergistically with Piracetam.
[100 mg] L-Theanine; reduces mental and physical stress, works synergistically with Caffeine, increases GABA levels, possibly neuroprotective
[65 mg] Caffeine; amount of a cup of coffee; works synergistically with Theanine, mild stimulant, can aid focus.
[250 mg] Calcium + Magnesium; both minerals should be chelated to aid absorption, the body cannot take more than 250 mg at once. Relaxes energetic and muscle pathways in the body, eases stress, serves as mild anti-depressant.
[5000 iu] D3; Solar energy; Boosts immune system, potent anti-depressant, aids concentration and focus
If you could make this, I'd give you all my money.
Edit: A caffeine free version would be cool. Maybe substitute less frantic energy sources, like B-12, Taurine, Guarana, etc to provide natural + mild boost.

Future Considerations: Different dosage and count NDC's.
Every single morning and night I take 2g of organic, heavy-metal free ashwagandha root powder. There is no way on hell I'm ever going to stop this supplement, it reeeeally helps me cope with stress. I can also feel an above baseline T level for myself judging by my friskiness and drive to hit the gym.
10/10 would recommend to anyone, good for BP too!
A lot of you asked where I got mine:

Interesting. This company has been selling fermented cod liver oil for years and I've wondered whether it has legit benefits or if they're just selling rotten fish oil.
Sorry to repeat this if it's old news, but have you seen cambridgebrainsciences.com? It's a free website with mental exercises that are way more challenging than just doing math. It might not be a nootropic, but that site is the single greatest discovery I made thanks to this sub.
> Anything that is indigestible is extremely bad for your gut bacteria and will destroy your intestines in the long run.
Not true at all. In fact, plenty of indigestible things are good for your gut bacteria and good for your intestines- that's the nature of insoluble fiber generally; you can't digest it, but it helps move things along.
In any event, there are plenty of Vitamin D supplements without cellulose. Just a quick look at at Amazon shows 120 5000 IU caps for $6.16

The one I use https://www.amazon.com/Suntheanine-L-Theanine-Double-Strength-Cold-Pressed-Organic/dp/B00TXY32FY/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1533544948&sr=8-1-spons&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=l-theanine&psc=1 It's got coconut oil as filler, 60 ct 200 mg each costs 17$ approx. and it's suntheanine.
MyNoise has some, there's also an app for Android and iOS. I have the paid mobile version (it's a one-time payment) because I use a lot of different soundscapes, so I don't remember if the binaural ones are paid or free on that, but I know if you're only interested in one or two sounds you can also buy just those cheaper. And I think most of them are free on the website.
This specifically should dramatically help stabilize you. One pill lasts 12 hours solid, and is mostly worn off after about 24 hours. So I take one in the morning, and one at bed time.
Life changing in a way that brings tears to my eyes.
I have been taking L-theanine for about 3 years now. Usually do about 400 mg a day and feel great but then again I consume about 200 mg of black coffee a day too. Cant say I have ever experienced brain fog, I just usually feel like I can zone in on my work and time just passes me by for those couple of hours. The focus boost is great and I feel a less stressed about life in general nowadays. I've been using the pill version from NOW and get them from amazon.
I bounce between several, but can definitely recommend Doctor's Best. I have not noticed a difference between all of the top brands on amazon.
I have been taking it for 3 months and it has changed my life. It builds up over time so you have to take it everyday for you to see its potential.
My anxiety has gone down and I feel lot better socially. I take it two times a day been doing it for last three months without missing a day.

I can't remember 100%, so there might be little mentions of religious (specifically Buddhist) stuff, but Bhante Henepola Gunaratana's Mindfulness in Plain English is the single best introduction to meditation I've found.
It puts it in such straightforward terms that anyone can read it and start reaping the benefits immediately, and it definitely doesn't push any dogma on you -- the basic technique just requires you to focus on breathing. It elucidates many of the common difficulties people might face when new to meditation and how to handle them.
I can, very anecdotally, confirm this in fact makes a difference. I struggled with my sleeping pattern being all over the place and the phenomenon of "tired but can't fall asleep". I installed f.lux on my Windows machine and CF Lumen on my Android and after a few weeks my sleep is much more even. I genuinely get tired now, go to sleep and fall asleep within 10 minutes, and I don't remember doing that in years.
I saved $100 bucks and just went with the ancestry report. After reading reports from consumers on Amazon, it apparently provides you with the same genetic data as the health report does.
Also, it mentions it at the bottom, here: https://www.23andme.com/compare-dna-tests/
I guess I could have just checked that to begin with, but I do appreciate the reply.
Hey here's an idea... What if we just stopped using YouTube and started our own federation of PeerTube which is like an open-source, decentralized, peer2peer alternative to YouTube. Since its decentralized the more people that use it, the faster and better it works.
>PeerTube is a software that you install on a web server. It allows you to create a video hosting website, so create your "homemade YouTube".
>The difference to YouTube is that it's not intended to create a huge platform centralizing videos from the whole world on a single server farm (which is horribly expensive).
>On the contrary, PeerTube's concept is to create a network of multiple small interconnected video hosting providers.

> Reagan gutted both the EPA and the FDA as part of his “war on big government” and no one has ever restored their funding back to a level where they can be useful.
This is utter drivel. The FDA is broken due to corruption, not lack of funding. Giving a corrupt entity more money is insane. Here, read this book written by a doctor who was editor of The New England Journal of Medicine for 2 decades.
You wanna raise T-levels? Grass fed ghee (it has butyrate) + prebiotic in coffee. Take probiotic also. My T-level were tested via blood and went from 300 to 800 in 3 months. If you have some understanding of the gut microbiome, this will make since to you.
Give it a shot.
Edit:
Lots of the same questions here. Here’s my recipe:
My coffee in the morning: 1 tbs of bulletproof ghee. 2 tsb of creatine 1 scoop of bulletproof prebiotics Blend all of this up. That’s it.
Take 1 pill of probiotic with coffee
Take probiotics before bed

both are in the Triglyceride form, very high in both EPA and DHA per softgel, and cost effective. The latter you can order internationally in the iHerb store.
I wont be a dick and say "hur dur, Nicotine is addictive bla bla"; especially as this may be a warning to others that small doses can lead to bigger ones.
What I will say is congratulations on being smoke free for 6 months, dude. Even if you have been vaping, I'm giving up a 20-a-day habit myself and understand that even when vaping it can be quite difficult to get over the habit and ritual of lighting up. Give yourself a pat on the back for sure.
Have you tried tapering down the nicotine content in your liquids though; personally I want to quit - I don't want to be vaping for ages. With that in mind I'm hitting the lowest nicotine level (3mg) from the weekend, and then mixing that with nic-free juice after a week or two.
Getting over the withdrawal actually takes a surprisingly short amount of time, and having another habit/ritual that you can continue (i.e vaping, albeit without nic) will help no end. Then there's only the habit of vaping to kick, but without the double whammy of nicotine withdrawal it shouldn't be too hard?
Use a privacy.com card for online orders, especially from websites that sell things like Nootropics, Phenibut, Kratom, CBD because it all depends on their payment processor (and even if it's a "domestic payment processor" the transactions themselves can still be done overseas) but with a restaurant that's as easy as a rouge waitress taking a pic of the card and using it later so you're never really gonna know for sure.
Acute sleep deprivation can. Research points to the saturation of adenosine receptors and subsequent rapid desaturation causing a big upregulation of BDNF expression. Some studies have seen a remission of depressive symptoms in treatment-resistant, bipolar individuals for up to months of time after a single session, in combination with light therapy.
Have you taken any stimulants to compensate?
I find it to be somewhat calming, nothing spectacular though. It gives me a kind of more content, peaceful sort of feeling. I imagine being in that state of mind might be beneficial with the sort of issues you describe. I get mine on US Amazon, the best I've tried there is naturewise turmeric curcumin, it has the black pepper extract in it which increases the absorption of curcumin significantly, and it also has some ginger in it that eliminates any nausea. It might not start working right away, I've been on it for a few months now and these effects came on very gradually.
In general, the study looks pretty good: better sample size than usual, considerable face validity, many interesting metrics collected, and the mice survival curve follows the curve one would predict (increased healthspan but not maximal lifespan).
Warning notes:
Good job! You could also talk about its ability to inhibit encephalin-degrading enzymes, which leads to increases in endogenous opioids. It also has beneficial effects on certain types of cancer, along with increasing neuronal activity when given nasally.
It's been a long-running complaint in responses to neuroethics studies around here that that whole body of research conventionally places most of its focus on drugs with limited or no evidence for efficacy as cognitive enhancers (specifically ritalin, adderall and modafinil; as one example critique of the treatment of these as cognitive enhancers see https://www.researchgate.net/profile/Boris_Quednow/publication/43014563_Ethics_of_neuroenhancement_A_phantom_debate/links/0912f50a0f418c8654000000.pdf).
Maybe your funding body (mis)understands these as the canonical cognitive enhancing drugs and maybe therefore you feel some obligation to report on them from that frame of reference. You seem to have found some individuals here who fit your study criteria, but if you report on the community as a whole as supporting those drugs for those purposes you'd be doing it in bad faith. The drugs you mention are not commonly recommended here due to the fact that there are others that are better both with respect to evidence for cognitive enhancement and safety profile (and maybe ease of legal access).

Dual n-back training. There are iOS and Android apps for this. There is also a free desktop application make by brainworkshop. It is really difficult and frustrating in the beginning, but you will eventually get the hang of it and see noticeable improvements.
Amazon link for Triple Calm There are other versions, but I can say I have had good results with this one. (I had ectopic heartbeats, and supplementing Mg helped alot. Triple calm was the first thing I went for, and it worked well.)
He'd need to waste a lot of effort making things match up as well as they do.
Also aniracetam has been known to cause panic attacks and weird psychological states for some people. It sounds like OP had a bad panic attack that caused dissociation and made him go to the ER.
If you literally assume everyone is a troll until they video tape the whole thing, that's just as bad as assuming no one is a troll. The evidence pretty clearly points to this case being real, although it isn't very informative as a case because it was most likely a panic attack.

While your comment is fairly accurate overall about this subreddit (i am new to it), i dont get why you would make it on this post.
The OP had a legit question, and based on actual science there seems to be more and more evidence that taking vitamins actually is harmful. The dude who basically invented supplements and was huge kn vitamin C, died from testicular cancer and it may have actually been because of the excess vitamin c pills he was taking. They legit had to stop some controlled studies cause people were like getting sick.
Read this for some perspective if you actually care. https://getpocket.com/explore/item/why-vitamin-pills-don-t-work-and-may-be-bad-for-you?utm_source=pocket-newtab
Otherwise, you can eat a dick as far as i am concerned for hating on a legit question in my eyes.
i been buying canned cod livers. They are delicious, kind of like shirako in a way. Very light buttery tasting. keep the extra oil in the fridge and dose it. I heard cod liver oil tastes horrible but this is almost tasteless.

I have the same gene mutation, and same problem, lasts way too long. Two things.
1) Highly advise you try straight caffeine, and not coffee. There is a big difference in response for myself. Coffee comes with anxiety, where caffeine does not. Use pure stuff, get a scale, or divide up the pills equally: https://www.amazon.com/Bulksupplements-Caffeine-Capsules-gelatin-capsules/dp/B01IA8YFAE/ref=sr_1_6?dchild=1&keywords=caffeine+bulk&qid=1606622864&sr=8-6
2) Get Rutaecarpine, you can find it here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01997EVNG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
The other Rutaecarpine's on amazon don't work as well as this one, according to the reviews.
Rutaecarpine specifically is an agonist to CYP1A2 enzymes. I take it every night for 3+ months now, and it allows me to sleep, even though I use caffeine through the evening.
If you have a caffeine addiction right now, the Rutaecarpine might give you a headache, because ALL of the caffeine is gone out of your system so quickly. So, I recommend dividing up the pill into smaller ones, 1/4 dose at a time to get started. Removing all the caffeine from your system after having an addiction to it, is an instant headache.
I don't get headaches on regular use, and my caffeine tolerance is staying very low, since I "reset" every night while I sleep.
I don't think anyone should include microscoops. It promotes the idea that volumetric dosing is accurate, which cannot be further from the case. A milligram scale is ALWAYS needed to accurately measure lower dosages. Not to mention all the plastic waste is causes. The only things I use scoops on are products that need larger dosages, have a low side effect profile, and that I have already calibrated using an accurate scale. So things like creatine or mushroom powder extracts I will use one of my stainless steel scoops to dose my powder, as I have already determined which scoops deliver a specific weight for that batch powder, and I know a little variability in the dosage is not going to cause any issues for me. I can wash the stainless steel scoops, and make sure they are sterilized. Plus, they can be used forever, instead of me wasting tons of them by throwing them out. Even with the stainless steel ones, I do not use them for things that need small dosages, like Noopept or Tianeptine. Those ALWAYS get weighed on an accurate milligram scale every time. Accuracy matters. The Gemini-20 is an inexpensive scale that you can get for like $20 on Amazon. There is no reason to not get one.
These are the stainless steel scoops I use: https://www.amazon.com/Norpro-3080-Stainless-Measuring-smidgen/dp/B0009X1P9S/
Here is the Gemini-20: https://www.amazon.com/American-Weigh-GEMINI-20-Portable-MilliGram/dp/B0012TDNAM/
Shelf stable, this from Amazon, it's worked really well for me in the past as well. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00309ZDS2/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I didn't know he has an ebay account, but that doesn't confirm anything. I never questioned that he deliveres his stuff in a timely manner and in good packaging, he has really good feedback in Amazon too. What I am saying is that I would personally never trust someone who uses dubious reviews to promote their product while attacking other brands, particularly when it comes to white powders which I have no way of testing for purity at my disposal.
I could still be wrong and he simply uses wierd marketing strategies, so apologies for my assertive tone in the previous post when in reality I am not entirely sure myself. If someone around here has access to testing equipment to test a product from the seller and can prove it's pure, that would be really great. Afterall, I want cheap nootropics too.
Check out the causes and symptoms of seasonal affective disorder. It really seems like it could be the culprit. https://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/seasonal-affective-disorder/symptoms-causes/syc-20364651
OP: Rather than going to melatonin immediately (it may indeed be a good idea, dosage depending) have you considered your sleep hygiene? Are you using screen reddening programs like flux that help normalize melatonin status? Is it possible that part of your problem stems from your sleep cycle just naturally shifting to a later time, as is normal for kids your age?
This kind of "insomnia" is fairly normal in kids your age due to a combination of computer usage (blue screens disrupt melatonin), adjusting sleep cycles (your "normal" time to go to sleep will shift by about 2-3 hours) and the general complications of puberty. If you're inactive, getting physical activity into your life might help. Sunlight exposure in the morning is a good way to help develop a steady sleep/wake cycle.
This doesn't mean that it's not something to be addressed (melatonin may be something great for you) but it may be that you don't need it.
This is probably the wrong subreddit to ask. Everyone here is obsessed with tianeptine.
I'd advise you make sure your diet/exercise/sleep habits are in check first:
I'd advise trying to ensure at least 7 hours of restful sleep a day (avoid alcohol, caffeine, and nicotine at least 4 hours before sleep, install flux on your computer and something on your phone).
Try to make sure to get at least 1.5g/kg of protein a day. If you weight 154 pounds that's about 105g of protein a day.
Exercise vigorously at least three times a week (enough to get your heart rate to 200 minus your age at some point during the exercise). If you feel like you don't have enough time, look into those 7 minute interval workouts. You can do those 3x a week, for a grand total of 21 minutes a week, or roughly 0.2% of your week.
Avoid drinking coffee more than 3 or 4 times a week, avoid drinking alcohol more than three times a week, avoid smoking more than a pack a week.
Ensure you have enough Vitamin D (you probably don't, supplementing 1500-4000IU/daily might help.)
Ensure you have enough dietary magnesium, zinc, omega 3s, iron (this is more important if you're a woman, 1/3 of women have some degree of iron deficiency)
Legion Triumph is a great multi with a bunch of crap in it, including some adaptogens (it's already got ashwagandha in it)
Keep on taking the theanine
After all that, I'd consider adding NAC (acetylcysteine) at 1.2g/day, and maybe some Inositol (0.5-2g/day), and see how you do with that.
> People of fairly average intelligence have achieved far more than many "geniuses" throughout history.
If you go at it from the old word meaning, a genius is somebody who is not only very smart, but also produces / creates results.
> genius: late 14c., "tutelary god (classical or pagan)," from L. genius "guardian deity or spirit which watches over each person from birth; spirit, incarnation, wit, talent;" also "prophetic skill,"
> originally "generative power," from root of gignere "beget, produce" (see kin), from PIE root *gen- "produce." Sense of "characteristic disposition" is from 1580s. Meaning "person of natural intelligence or talent" and that of "natural ability" are first recorded 1640s.

If I may jump in here this is actually an interest of mine as well.

I think the hoops Josent is talking about is the cost/time to make it past the government/legal red tape, the amount of which is in this situation absolutely ridiculous and the very opposite of scientifically based policy.
Edit:
> However, the group has found its path blocked by bureaucracy. So difficult has the government and the EU made it for companies to manufacture the active ingredients of Class A drugs that price tags of around £100,000 were given by chemical companies.
> "We only need a relatively small amount of the drug, an order worth only a few hundred pounds," said Nutt, who is set to describe his work with psilocybin at the UK Festival of Neuroscience conference in London today. "If we have to pay £100,000 we simply cannot afford to carry out the rest of the study. We have not given up but it is proving very difficult," he said.
https://www.theguardian.com/science/2013/apr/07/magic-mushrooms-treat-depression
> Nutt said major hurdles had to be overcome to carry out the research. It took a year to get ethical approval and there was a six-month safety study, but the hardest part was getting through the red tape.
>It took 30 months to get the drug, which had to be specially packaged into capsules for the trial by a company which was required to get a licence to do so. All the regulatory approvals took 32 months, Nutt said. “It cost £1,500 to dose each person, when in a sane world it might cost £30.”
Electrum is what I use. I went with the advice to not use "online wallets" (such as Circle or Coinbase) to make payments to vendors. I guess they can also get a little weird about where you spend you money, and close accounts (not sure if that is true of nootropic vendors or not).
I never got Circle to work for me to even buy BtC. Coinbase has been solid for me though.
Download and setup Electrum. It's a little weird to use at first, but once you get a few transactions under your belt, it's really not that bad. It also kind of depends on the vendor you are using and what their BtC procedures are.
edit: Thinking this might not be too clear, because I said I avoided coinbase, then when on to say coinbase has been solid for me. What I meant was: I use Coinbase purchase the BtC; I use Coinbase to transfer the BtC to Electrum wallet; I then use Electrum to send BtC for buys. I'm new to it all.

Dual-n-back. It isn't perfect as a metric, because it won't test things like motivation or long-term memory and it counts as an intervention in itself. But it's certainly better than nothing it will give you useful information, especially if some intervention is hindering your performance.

I am 32. In order to see the benefits quickly, when you start taking it, begin with 5ml per day (table spoon) for the first 3 months. After the 3 months, take 1 sugar spoon per day for maintenance.
Avoid taking Fish Oil Capsules. Take fish oil in liquid form and make sure the fish oil you are taking is DHA 60% and EPA 40%.
Mollers have been the best brand for me.
I started speaking Russian within 2 months (not fluently, but understandable)
The full article on adding powdered mustard seed is available here: https://www.researchgate.net/publication/235628559_The_potential_to_intensify_sulforaphane_formation_in_cooked_broccoli_Brassica_oleracea_var_italica_using_mustard_seeds_Sinapis_alba
I've yet to experience any negative side effects, even in higher-than-average doses over an extended period of time, as far as I can tell. AFAIK, the implicit general consensus of published research seems to indicate that potential for risk is low (I am not a medical professional or clinical data analyst, so take this with a grain of salt). This link might be useful as a starting point for DD.
As far as the nootropic effect profile is concerned - the most profound qualities include motivational and analytical enhacements, both of which seem to be encompassed by an overall sharpening of thought processes (notably those of connectivity and organization). It's these qualities, in tandem with the anxiolytic ones, which have led to Emoxypine's place among my most favorited compounds.
Are you sure you even want to discuss this publicly and with your Customs given your new President....?
OK I'll take a crack at this.
Ashwaghanda can lower stress and anxiety. It's not going to cause your testosterone to explode. Perhaps your symptoms are a good sign as stress/anxiety/depression can hurt libido. It would also depend on how old you are. If you're 16 years old that's a lot different than say 46.
Adrenal fatigue is not a thing therefore I'm not aware of any treatment. Sounds like you are depressed - depression very often causes sleep disturbances. Perhaps see a doctor and don't be afraid of medication if you are diagnosed. All of the hysteria against antidepressants is unwarranted. They can be very effective in spite of what the internet wants to believe. It doesn't sound like you are manic in which case bi-polar would be a concern (mania can cause hyper-sexuality).
REFERENCE: https://www.webmd.com/a-to-z-guides/adrenal-fatigue-is-it-real#1
The Endocrine Society, the world's largest organization of endocrinologists (people who research and treat patients with diseases related to glands and hormones), flatly says that adrenal fatigue is not a real disease.
Since you haven't answered the question about taking an IQ test, I'll have to agree with the other commenters in the sense that I don't think you've suffered significant damage from taking B5.
However, you do seem very anxious, so I'd recommend:
Meditation (according to the method laid out in the book The Mind Illuminated)
Brain training: play some Dual n-Back daily. Brain Workshop is for free: http://brainworkshop.sourceforge.net/
Aerobic exercise: try some running or power walk.
Also, don't listen to the guy who recommended kundalini. Do not fuck with kundalini.
Hi everyone! This is the aforementioned Mike, staff scientist from Cambridge Brain Sciences. Thanks, OP, for the kind words about our site!
Thanks also to those who signed up before we hit our limit. I'm glad people are enjoying the new experience so far. We're starting with a small number of users to test things out as we experiment and gather feedback on what works and what doesn't, especially from folks like you who really pay attention to your cognition.
The site is going to change a lot over the next little while, as will our timeline, but I'll be sure to drop in and let everyone know when we're ready to open it up to more signups. In the meantime, I can answer any questions you have.
The old site is also still available, if you can stand the soul-crushing black background: http://www.cambridgebrainsciences.com
Might I recommend a different kind of google search
Also I've read a few rat studies in the past showing that exercise caused a more substantial gain in rat's intelligence (at different tests) than many other things.
Generally exercising a lot also improves a lot of your health parameters because you just start taking better care of yourself and increase your bodies efficiency at disposing of harmful metabolites like homo-cysteine and stuff.
Diet certainly has nootropic effects that are observed all the time in children. Omega 3 DHAs for one, choline during pregnancy in animals at least (and possibly in humans), choline during development. There's a few studies showing eating healthier diets causes a substantial difference in IQ by puberty in children compared to kids who eat crap. Although there's obvious confounds to this, because generally parents who let their kids eat nothing but crap usually don't have their shit together as it is (either intelligence or wealth are factors, both of which are often correlated).
So yeah exercise is good for you, and nootropics are anything that's good for you and doesn't cause harm; so while it might not be a pill, it's still shown to decrease mortality and increase health. Also, food. Fish oil should definitely be considered a nootropic but I feel not enough people add it to their stack in this particular subreddit.
Not even just the FDA, the FTC. When a product is extracted something is left behind. It's complete bullshit. Look at this one on amazon.
They don't even do it for all the products because how stupid would it look to have 40 grams of tongkat per capsule. But they do it for every single other ingredient in the product.
I've been into optimizing sleep for a couple years now and I got so drawn into it I started a company to sell blue-blocking glasses since nothing at the time looked good and worked well. www.carbonshade.com
It's kind of frustrating to see so many articles on this topic that suggest not using electronics for 2 hours before bed as if that's feasible for people (not to mention it doesn't solve the ambiant lightbulb problem), when a really simple and incredibly effective solution exists. If you don't want to buy my glasses, that's cool, but I'd still reccommend at least trying out these inexpensive ones on Amazon to see what you are missing. https://www.amazon.com/Uvex-Blocking-Computer-Glasses-SCT-Orange/dp/B000USRG90
I was taking that one as it is manufactured in the UK and is the #1 seller on Amazon. However, the CFU count is low compared to others at just 2 billion in total, meaning each strain only has a few million. I've just found a blend by Swanson, which is manufactured in the US. The number of strains, types of strain and CFU count seems to be superior. As you are based in the US you may receive a higher viability as well.
You might want to take a prebiotic with them if you are not already. Chicory root powder is a cheap source of Fructooligosaccharides.
Bro... buy Ashwaghanda capsules from Amazon. I have anxiety from the military and this shit is a fucking God Send.
https://www.amazon.com/Ashwagandha-1300mg-Organic-Powder-Extract/dp/B078K93HFD
It took my anxiety from a 7 down to a 2
Yep. CC's have caught on. Now they want bank transfers and you can expect to wait about 10 days give or take. The Cash app and its instant bitcoin purchase feature is amazing. so amazing that I feel like it is just a matter of time before somebody screws with it. I can have money moved from my personal checking to my Cash app to a Cash app Bitcoin purchase to transfer to my Bitcoin wallet to online purchase in about 1 hour just depending on how fast the miners are going. No fees other than the miners.

I've had great results with Sleep Cycle, and its for both Android and iOS. Super simple to use, a very fluid layout, and tons of helpful data that it graphs out in a straightforward manner.
> Unless someone has found a reliable source?
Assuming the compounds won't thermally degrade.... you could always go straight to the source and start eating fresh pig brains. I'd imagine slow cooking at a lower temperature would be the best way to keep in tact the desirable compounds.
This study seems to contradict your statement: "... the present results indicate that choline can enhance cognition under conditions of cholinergic blockade."
But I'm interested if you can explain in some greater depth.
If you mean that taking choline while under short-term single-dose anticholinergic effect would likely be useless, that might be true due to the short timescale. However many people take daily medicines which have anticholinergic effects, and taking additional choline may offset these, especially if dietary choline insufficiency was the rate-limiting factor in ACh production.
Hey OP....can you say KVETCH...?
Well, your kvetching is ultimately boring and tiresome....
Perhaps you could find something to do to relieve the pressure...?....like polishing your doorknobs...?
I would first work to improve your circadian rhythm. blue light(6,500 K) during the day, orange(1,850 K) at night, if you need light. cut your screen time after sundown. flux is awesome.
this seems trivial, but getting this locked down REALLY helps.
i put some plants and a grow light in the conner of my room, with a timer in sync with sun rise/set and a orange light in reverse. its very calming and reviving.
then look into:
You will become better at tests just by playing them. You should be doing tests 1+ months before taking noots to establish a baseline.
http://www.cambridgebrainsciences.com/
There are loads of little games and tests that you can play and record your scores. Get a baseline by taking several tests a day when you're not supplementing.
I doubt you're leaving much piracetam behind in your protein shake, but if you're worried about it you can try this. Take a swig of shake in your mouth but don't swallow it. Tilt your head back and spoon the dose of powder into your mouth, then swallow together with your shake. That should mask the taste pretty effectively and you know you're getting 100% of what you measured.
Reddit certainly has a plethora of data. A few months ago I ran a python script to gather all the citations on this and a couple related subs. It grabbed 3400+ citations just from the latest 1000 posts of three subs (a reddit api limit). I would love to do more, but I haven't had the time.
I was talking about the vice episode featuring him with my friend at a bar and a guy overheard of us and said "you know Hof's breathing method is basically just the work of Jeru Kabal but it's very effective". He went on on and I started to dismiss him because he was kinda hippy-ish but he emailed me some tracks on a guided meditation on how to do the breathing routine that Wim Hof teaches and it was a pretty intense experience.
I don't want to placebo anyone but if you're up for giving it a spin:
https://mega.nz/#!Px9TjYRD!zp0RFzoXze9BfP3Guc2eeJf0M5pG98d3FgS4nDb0VOk
Mr. Kabal passed away but asked his work to be spread so don't feel bad about piracy. After you've listened you can check out the guide/info here and see if it matches up with your experience:
This information was given on his Amazon listing:
About the Product
Extracted using benign water and ethanol method. No harmful solvents were used.
https://www.amazon.com/Radix-Polygalae-Polygala-tenuifolia-Powder/dp/B01G7VAS34
I just received it from ND today as well.
1: It's a typo, 100mg is the dosage.
2: Get a scale. You should not be eyeballing substances. Especially when it's a substance like Polygala. Scale on Amazon
You can get capsules from Amazon. Honestly, it's just not bad, since they're pre-measured at 200mg, so I can roughly estimate how much to take, and have an exact overall total. I'm not sure if I'm allowed to link to Amazon. It's presently $14 for 300 capsules 200mg each. edit: the link: https://www.amazon.com/Bulksupplements-Caffeine-Capsules-gelatin-capsules/dp/B01IA8YFAE/
A long while ago I read a book by an American doctor called something like the UltraMind Solution. Most of the book is about how certain foods cause brain inflammation, and that this inflammation is this cause of much depression, ADHD, and general brain fog.
One of the main points he made was that no one should eat gluten, celiac or not.
EDIT: Here is the book in question, on Amazon:
Dulse (a kind of seaweed) is a local product here in Eastern Canada.
Amazon has it https://www.amazon.com/ORGANIC-WILD-ATLANTIC-DULSE-OZ/dp/B004NR24YG?th=1
I eat it raw.
It tastes salty and may be an acquired tastes, mut it is probably way less expensive this way.
also check here for suppliers.
Dunno about in Europe but Amazon sells Jarrow's Ashwagandha extract (KSM-66), 120 capsules at 300 mg's for under 12 bucks.
reposted content:
> Perhaps some of you have also bought bulk melatonin powder from bulksupplements before; it seems like this was the most price effective way of safely buying melatonin powder.
> This is the amazon page for the powder (https://www.amazon.com/BulkSupplements-Melatonin-Powder-25-grams/dp/B00JV46FFU). Less than a year ago, 25 dollars could get you 250 grams of melatonin. That's basically half a manila envelopes worth of melatonin, which is a pretty good deal. Nowadays however, their price has increased 10 fold: 25 dollars gets you only 25 grams, and this pricing suddenly makes what was originally a cheap bulk product now outrageously expensive.
> This is most certainly caused by recent studies showing that melatonin is often a useful theraputic supplement for those struggling from covid-19.
> I admit I don't know truely what is going on with why the price is what it is, it could be because they are artificially inflating it, or the demand may be so incredibly high that they need to raise the price for whatever means. I just wanted to make this post because I haven't seen anybody on the internet discussing this yet. I really hope bulksupplements is not artificially inflating the price to exploit the situation.
This type of shit has become so common place on Amazon. Look at this listing:

https://www.amazon.com/Pycnogenol-Pine-Bark-Supplement-Circulation/dp/B07HLBDH6R

Pycnogenol Pine Bark - Premium Supplement with 200mg Herbal Complex for Circulation, Blood Flow & Nitric Oxide Production

Not only is each capsule only 100mg, but each capsule only has 10mg of Pycnogenol, the rest is just BS filler.

bpc prevents excessive fibrous repair (scar tissue) in blunt injury
I can't find research specific to your situation, however, it prevents excessive scar tissue repair in blunt injury. I have old scar tissue in my joints which seems to come free or loosen with bpc-157. I gain greater range of movement.
"BPC 157 improves muscle healing, promotes almost complete structural and functional muscle recovery, and unlike growth factors prevents fibrous repair."
i know this probably isn't the solution you want but im going to leave this open-edit spreadsheet here anyway.. i got it a while back from a short thing Timothy Ferris wrote on Nootropics and similar stuff as an add on to his book 'four hour body'
dysthymia is a big deal.
It would be helpful to know more about you.
[1] current meds and dose
[2] age, sex, weight (for dosing info)
[3] how you are feeling
[4] Have you noticed any patterns to your moods?
[5] Any drug history, or history of trauma that may be important to know.
Thanks for the in-depth post.
In lieu of reading (I like reading, just not immediately before bed time) I use ASMR video's - in combination with flux.
On the nootropic front I sometimes use agomelatine.
I was curious about this because I thought I remembered reading that when consumed orally most 5-HTP is metabolized to serotonin in the gut, and remains there. So I looked it up, and it turns out that yes, it does cause elevations in brain levels of serotonin:
Oral 5-HTP administration increased the intensity of both 5-HTP and serotonin immunoreactivity in raphe neurons
...
The intensity of the immunoreactivity to serotonin and 5-hydroxytryptophan in the substantia nigra was maximal within 2 h of 5-hydroxytryptophan administration and returned to control levels by 24 h.
So, is it placebo? Maybe. At least there is a solid basis for it having an effect. Is this a possible treatment for these periodic depressions? More of a question for a doctor.
(edited to add a second quote)
This study is really interesting in that it discusses the difference in effect on BDNF between HIIT and continuous cardio exercise.
I will post a small summary of it later, but the take-away message is that HIIT seems superior in this regard. (not too surprising, if you take into account that the effect on BDNF of exercise seems to be determined by intensity when the time window is a constant)
I wouldn't say I'm in the know, but from my reading it does appear that people believe alpha-adrenergic receptors, specifically in the prefrontal cortex, play a role in impulsivity, working memory, and attention.
More to the point there are studies that show Acute Yohimbine Increases Laboratory-Measured Impulsivity in Normal Subjects
Inositol's great at treating anxiety. If you don't wanna supplement eat more oranges and cantaloupes.
Theanine works well too (a natural source is matcha green tea).
Some people like adaptogens like ashwagandha and rhodiola rosea.
Some people have anecdotally said aniracetam helps with social anxiety.
Omega 3 EPA (from fish oil) has been linked to improving a great deal of psychiatric disorders, including OCD I believe. So eat your oil non-predatory low toxin fish (wild salmon, sardines, herring, cod, atlantic mackerel).
Inositol's actually been shown to be effective in a scientific setting numerous times for anxiety, though.
Your best bet otherwise is yoga/meditation and some form of resistance exercise. It's nice to feel like you're effecting positive physical change to your body, and helps with confidence and such. The r/fitness faq is a great resource that you could read through for some info.
Off the top of my head the big immune stimulating nootropics are L-theanine and DHEA.
For the nootropics you're interested in trying I'd suggest using google scholar search "name" + immune or something a long those lines.
