How about the fact that she also had no ability to protect the interests of Puerto Rico throughout the creation of the republican tax overhaul.
If it is passed as is, it will completely destroy Puerto Rico's economy, and any hope for a recovery from maria, and the economic crisis. 500,000 people will have left the island in 2017, it could be a million more in the coming years if pharma manufacturing shuts down in Puerto Rico.
I highly recommend Duolingo. It helps to form a habit to learn Spanish (and many other languages), as it encourages daily learning. It has helped me immensely with Spanish, Finnish, and French. It also has lots of other courses such as Korean, Chinese, Arabic, etc. if you are interested in becoming a polyglot.
The app can be installed Android, iOS, and Windows.
starve the residents out, move in casinos
Just like in Hawaii, take the land via force, make it too expensive for the locals to live there, replace the hotel staff with temporary immigrants

Because of the Sahara dessert carrying a lot of dust particles through the air currents and the Cumbre Vieja volcano spewing SO2. You can see the active process of the volcano adding more SO2 concentration above including predictions of more possible mass coming soon.
The Puerto Rico Day Trips website is great. You can start with their self guided tour of Old San Juan and go from there.
I used to give specific food recommendations but now I just tell people to visit Trip Advisor and search for San Juan restaurants. I've found their crowd sourced recommendations to be on point. But if you have any specific questions like "which restaurants are good for breakfast in this specific area" I might be able to give you some specific recommendations.
What kinds of activities do you like? Are you into physical activities like kite surfing and paddle boarding or are you more into visiting museums and the like? Are you traveling with children? Are you interested in night life? Tell us more about yourselves.
It would also be helpful to know the specific dates of your trip. We can use this to recommend specific events.
In addition to the places that have already been mentioned try the following:
Thon Thai in Guaynabo. It's a food truck so it has a limited menu but it's good.
Ode to the Elephants in Rincón. I haven't been there yet so if you visit the place and like it let us know.
Deberian cambiarse a Charles Schwab. ATM fees refunded worldwide for ever no limits.
Can't wait to get back to California. Alla esto no pasa.

My family is from that area- barrio macana (mal paso, la vega, and el barreal). I spent a lot of time in the area during my childhood. The mountains in that area are generally very rugged. That whole area was/is composed of a lot of agriculture such as coffee, gandules, all the traditional stuff. A few years ago I did a whole search on ancestry.com and found way more info than I thought I ever would but it sounds like you've done that as well. There's a lot of really good photos on Flickr that show life how it used to be in your grandpa's era in PR generally. I showed my mom some stuff and she spent hours reminising.

Just my two cents...

So did Anthony Bourdain but I can't find a link. Anyway it's pork heaven.

IMHO you're in a good spot here because you are central to many activities, most can be sectioned off into individual day trips. For example one day you could visit Caguana Indigenous Ceremonial Park, Cafe Gran Batey and then take a ferry around Lagos dos Bocas for dinner. The next day you could see Cueva Ventana, Rio Camuy Caves Park and if you still have time, check out the Petroglyphs at Cueva del Indio in Arecibo. On another day you could head down (great drive btw) to Ponce to visit their beautiful plaza featuring stunning architecture and Parque de Bombas, don't forget to have some of their amazing ice cream while you are there. They also have a tour trolley if you're into that. Next hit up the Ponce Museum of Art, then the Serralles Castle, and El Vigia Cross. If you are coming in February they are also having their Carnaval Ponceño.
Ideally though, I would want to rent a room somewhere around Cabo Rojo (a couple of reasonably priced hotels are there) at least three nights to get in a visit to that area, go swimming at Bahia Sucia, visit the Guanica dry forest and then Northwards up to Rincon where you can enjoy the beach again and rent a boat for the day. February and March are supposed to be great for whale watching as well.
Here’s Waco (ACT) to Honolulu (HNL).
Here’s Mobile (MOB) to Honolulu (HNL).
Neither regional airport has a direct flight.

I use a VPN, here's a deal on one for 3 years.
Ninja edit: Here's a better list. Better than anything I could come up with... and none of them require an immediate change in political status.
Not really. There are a lot of short term options that would help a lot (for starters, making it easier for small business to get their license, making the tax code less complicated for businesses, getting rid of the IVU and starting the 6.6 port tax the norm again, etc) that don't have anything to do with our political status.
Can we not see that, considering we have a consumerist economy, all the money we spend in our malls, pharmacies, etc is not being re-invested in our island? We don't need another Walmart Supercenter "strategically located" to produce a few hundred minimum wage jobs and kill local businesses. We need to make it easier for the "Panaderia" next door to operate. We need to fix things so that they don't have to give out their earnings to AEE and AAA every month. We need to stop applying stupid fees that run them to the ground (CRIM, I'm looking at you).
Aside from the obvious recreational uses, can we just go on and legalize ALL aspects of Hemp/Cannabis?
None of these would require us to change our political status. There is a better, more informed list that Jay Fonseca posted on facebook, and again, none of the options on that list requires a political status change. we need to dig ourselves out of the hole our politicians threw us in before we start talking about our political status, or we won't have anything worth deciding for.

If you have someone in the states have the items that Amazon won't ship to PR shipped to them via Prime and then have them send to you via USPS flat rate box. I sent solar power banks to my family along with these: https://www.amazon.com/Goal-Zero-Lighthouse-Mini-Lantern/dp/B016UQNGMG/ref=sr_1_1?s=lawn-garden&ie=UTF8&qid=1507526691&sr=1-1&keywords=goal+zero+mini
They are not cheap, but I tested them and they are high quality and can be charged with the same power banks used for cell phones. Plus, you can use it as a back up battery and use the front USB to charge your phone in an emergency.
How many amp hours do you need? amazon ships these they are AGM (glass matt) instead of lead, much safer and can be installed at an angle
Last week batteries and bulbs in Ponce had deep cycle batteries for $400, I don't know how many amp hours those are/were.
I'm running on $50 car batteries for now with this solar kit (doesn't ship to Puerto Rico) bu I've got some new ones on order.
I'm a liberty customer also.
I've been using PDANet+ with Tmobile for unlimited usb hotspot in lte (to skip their 5gb limit on unlimited plans). I get 10mbps average, been able to watch netflix and simultaneously use my pc for gaming and/or youtube (don't know if the netflix quality is because of the binge-on thing, or because the speed stays at 10-12mbps).
Did have to buy a band4 signal booster, but right now $100 have been giving signal to me and a few houses around my house (your welcome neighbors).
I did have wifi-solutions from Camuy, 5mb speeds for around 50 bucks but canceled the service back in December. Same service that 4netpr offers, but wifi-solutions doesn't require a contract.
Planning on switching to Claro's fiber next month if the service is not back by then. For now Tmobile's unlimited plan have been working pretty darn well.
These are a few that I have on the list but haven't gotten to:
Hernando de Soto The Mystery of Capital: Why Capitalism Triumphs in the West and Fails Everywhere Else (and his other books)
Thomas Piketty, Capital in the Twenty-First Century (I'm particularly interested in his theory of tax base distribution, given that I understand he advocates taxing true assets rather than income, which I have for years said world stimulate consumption and liquidity while being fair in terms of burden. Maybe he didn't argue quite that, but that's why it's on my list :)
Roger Fisher, Getting to Yes (negotiating outside of a zero sum mentality--I've read a portion and put it down, or err ran into the paywall and bought something else)
Sebastian Robiou Lamarche PhD. Tainos y Caribes: Las culturas aborigenes antillanas (Because it's better to know where you came from. I know quite a bit of indigenous culture in regard to language. But regarding history, this book looks like he read everything from the 15th century sources and compiled it. I classify the island revolts and the destruction of Columbus's settlement at La Isabela under 'Inspiration' ;-)
They make a really good difference.
Either way, yo uso Mullvad.
Chiming in to say that Cocina Criolla, by Carmen Aboy, is like the bible of Puerto Rican cooking.
...add to that her other book "Puerto Rican Cookery", and baby, you've got a stew goin'!
May I suggest books, too? My grandmother wrote this book in the late 80s with her good friend Yuyu (published around '91 I believe), and my mother recently republished it after rewriting the recipes in a... I guess a more modern way. All of Mamai's recipes were written in an old style manner.

woah! holy shit! I had no idea this existed! I'm rocking an AX88U and while I get coverage pretty much everywhere I have been planing in upgrading for a while now and this is perfect.
Asus RT-AX88U is pretty great. I would not use it as an extender though, disable the Liberty router and use whichever you buy instead.
Here's 2 museums, they might be able to tell you more about clubs and meets/events/shows.
Hmm, can't really tell without knowing exactly where you saw these homes. Maybe a map could help? this is the area we're talking about.
The best Spanish language education I ever received (and most entertaining) was https://www.amazon.com/Mierda-Spanish-Never-Taught-School/dp/0452264243 - a bit dated perhaps, but gives you a fresh new way to think about learning the language! The use of language is an artform! You need to have ALL the colors available to you.
Bro, Nobody started going to the capitol with sign that say “gringos go home” out of the blue, or for racial issue. No one harasses and persecutes the gringos on the island. This is not a attack to gringo, but to gringo investor. Did you know that the US government imposed a fiscal board control in 2016(even tho its unconstitutional) 6 of 7 member are north Americans gringos and they are approving unconstitutional laws(stepping on our democratic process)in favor of their business(like ACT22); when they were put there in the first place to monitor that the payment of the debt P.R. owe to the United States will be carried out. The worst part is that these laws don’t contribute to the payment of the debt, but it helps to keep sinking the island. It helps investor like Logan Paul and Salil Zaveri to come here to keep buying our land, making us unable to pay the debt and/or to be a free country. Theres clearly so much political history you just simply not acknowledge or you’re either making a fool of yourself cuz you’re triggered and blind. Leer es gratis.Leer es gratis
I read how a lot of people are saying to not mention your location, but I think it's something you should mention if an interview is offered. They might be willing to do a phone interview or Skype interview if they don't want to cover travel expenses. And, honestly, I wouldn't pay for travel for my own interviews, seeing as how high the chances are of not getting the job anyways (regardless of the field).
I put my city in my resume, so that employers have an idea of my location. Then you could emphasize how interested you are in moving to the new location, your reasons for wanting to move (career opportunities, personal growth, etc), the benefits of hiring someone from PR (bicultural and bilingual), and then how you can gladly go in for a physical interview or do a phone/skype interview instead. You can try Indeed.com to look for jobs.
So Replying on English since the post was on English.
Really you don't want to move you just want to have better opportunities.
The first thing you need to do is define what is the career path that you want. Note that I'm not saying a job. Also make sure that you are realistic on your analysis.
For example: With your background a retail designer position is probably something that you can apply and get. Coming from a hispanic backgrounds hitting places in the south of the Us that actually becomes and Asset.
Jobs for that path are here. http://www.indeed.com/q-Retail-Graphic-Designer-jobs.html
Once you have that figured out where to move when and why becomes a lot clearer.
Pets aren't a cultural issue, just a landlord issue like in the States. Some allow them, some don't. Make your pet sound small and harmless. :) There is a big stray dog problem here, so make sure your pet is vaccinated and keep him/her safe. Most strays are harmless but you never know.
The only boat area in Ponce I know is La Guancha. You might find kindred spirits there.
Don't sweat about fluency. Concentrate on getting your message across. If anyone switches to English, just explain that you're trying to polish your Spanish. You'll get brownie points even!
Spanish is a very weird language. I remember reading the Dirty Spanish intro and he goes as far as to say that, if you're traveling to a Spanish speaking country, you should shut up and listen carefully how everyone is talking, and the words they are using, because it will clue you into the local dialect. Most classes in the USA concentrate in Mexican dialect, for obvious reasons.

Spirit is a self-loathing, short-man's game. Leg room below average guarantees optimal disconfort otherwise.
Its goal is to appeal at first sight. Ever browsed, say, Google Flights? Notice how Spirit's absurd prices pollute the entire calendar? Very atractive, gets clicks. Still, you aren't entitled to most things. No carry-ons, no free* or flat-rate checked-bags, no seat selection, and sub-par quality of travel. Sure, you save a bit of cash if you're flying with something akin to a briefcase. On average, people will check at least one bag or carry-on. Spirit carry-on prices may be higher than checking bags. Prices are higher at the kiosk, regardless of bag. By the time you're done "customizing" your itinerary, chances are booking with Southwest or JetBlue could present substantial cost-effectiveness.
Frontier is horseshit.

My girlfriend and I spent summer in PR and she likes to watch Big Brother but paramount+ wasn’t available for streaming so I recommended the same I did to you.
She downloaded NordVPN. It’s an app she could use on both her iPhone and iPad and it seems to have been quite user friendly too; pretty much its like press a button to turn the service on, choose your preferred region, and use your other apps as normal.

I switched over from BPPR to Charles Schwab and haver never been happier with my banking.
That’s not what I’m doing. Look at the first airport: it’s ALSO an INTERNATIONAL one, yet doesn’t do one way flight to PR. Flights to PR aren’t based on regional/international, but on the airport’s traffic.

A while back it used to appear as out of stock, now it shows nothing and only a used one is available for purchase from Amazon. However, when I set the location to the US it's in stock for the regular price. It's probably that they wont ship it here because it's kinda heavy but it's just weird that it doesn't simply say that like other products do.

DANGER!!!! this is vaporized sulphuric acid, it might smell like old eggs. You are breathing it and it is BAD. Your battery's are venting (as they do) and sending evaporaded acid and microscopic bits of lead into the air. Fix this with a fan and vent. This will corrode electronics in the area and it does really bad things to you skin and lungs.
>Tengo q cambiar algo pa usar lipo?
No, I charge my 4 cells on the same solar array that I used for lead battery
LiFePo4 needs a Battery Maintenance System (BMS) but can use a regular charger. Li-Ion does not need a BMS but it can extend their life cycle.
battery basics:
LiFePo4, 3.2v per cell, used in medical and space, very safe - 7k cycles (7k if you charge to 100%, if you charge to 80% you can get 10k cycles)
Li-Ion, 3.7 per cell, very light, used in everything and can explode or catch fire if abused - 3k cycles
lead acid: 1.5v per cell, heavy, stinky, 1k cycles.
battery is measured in Amp Hours, 1 amp at 1 hour. Think of a large cistern, the capacity of the cistern is Amps Hours. Advertisers are assholes and write stupid shit like 22000 mhA instead of 2.2 Ah.

Amazon won't ship replacement laptop batteries to Puerto Rico either.

Order as many of these clothes washing devices as you can for people. They're cheap and it makes life so much better to have clothes that aren't filthy and stinky. It allows you to wash your clothes using two buckets and water (even from a creek, just try to get water that isn't muddy) and some soap or detergent.
I've been in the states since I was two. If you and /u/MyNeverRing want to give me shit because my written English is way better than my written Spanish then go right ahead. Makes you no different than the racists here in the states that call us spics.
Here, buy me this keyboard, maybe I'll get better.
Goal zero. Not cheap but we'll designed. You aren't going to run much more than a few lights, a radio or charge a phone unless you are willing to spend +$500. The Dictator's Handbook: Why Bad Behavior is Almost Always Good Politics"
The Dictator's Handbook: Why Bad Behavior is Almost Always Good Politics"
Here is a book providing options. We should review the SUCCESS of other small independent nations and follow in their foot steps and learn from the mistakes of our neighbors so as to never repeat them.

is the problem the internet itself or that your devices don't pick up the signal from the router? in the latter case, I can recommend this extender. It's worked great for me. I live on a second floor with the Liberty modem/router downstairs. The difference is night and day since I got it. You can plug the antenna straight into your laptop or use the cable that it comes with and place it somewhere where it gets the best signal. The cable it comes with is only about 2ft however, so you might want to get a longer one depending on your situation.
Puerto Rico: Cinco Siglos de Historia is a very good book that goes into great detail since it's Spanish colonization (1493) until modern times (2007/2008~). A new edition has been (or will be) released a while ago. As you can see though, it's entirely in Spanish.
Puerto Rico: The Trials of the Oldest Colony in the World revolves around the American acquisition of the island since 1898, and how it has been treated politically/economically.
