Use a controller adapter, like the Brooke Wingman XB. I own one to use Xbox Series controller on the 360, and it works perfectly (but it must be wired). You can use DualShock 3 and 4, as well as DualSense wirelessly on your Xbox Series console.

This guide worked for me: http://superuser.com/questions/692151/on-windows-8-or-10-particularly-on-tablets-with-a-permanently-inserted-sd-card
I have THUG2 running off SD on my Asus VivoTab Note 8, along with Dropbox, another programme that totally doesn't support SD cards. Let me know how you go!
Follow these instructions for controller support, but do it for the THAW.exe instead of silent hill 4. Then, I think it should let you find the triggers correctly.
a simple Google search will prove how dumb you are. I guess their practices are totally fine, right? a score lower than Facebook, damn, but they're a good company right?
I use the Mayflash Magic NS Adapter to use my PS5 controller with Epic games (including Tony Hawk) and it works flawlessly.
Just make sure the light is on Green (Xinput) mode.
looks like it's out of stock on amazon but I use an old ps3 controller and this Mayflash Wireless PS3 to PC adapter. I'm sure you can get it elsewhere. It works great.
Its a program for Windows that can do a few things. You can make the playstation controller emulate an xbox cobtroller for games where its not supported or assign keyboard functions and macros to the controller.
I use DS4 windows. It works with pretty much everything other than Bandai Namco games on steam. But that's fixed by using big picture mode for some reason.
I'm currently playing THPS3 with a DS4 controller on windows fam.
Theres a bunch of alternatives but this is the one I know off the top of my head.
I've been using the 360 controller too. the dpad destroyed my thumb for a week or two then I got used to it

If you're using Steam, completely exit it then use this app. If you have problems, reply here and I'll try helping. It definitely would work as I did it recently to play THUGpro and it worked as well as the base game with my DS4.
From what I understand, emulating via Dolphin is faster than emulating via a PS2 emulator like PCSX2. On top of that, you've got to mess around with graphics and audio plugins with PCSX2, while Dolphin is ready to go out of the box.
I know that at least in the US, in normal circumstances, you can cancel a digital pre order on PS4 no problem. Just as long as it’s before release and you haven’t downloaded it. But the downloadable demo aspect of this specific title worries me. It does specifically state that as long as you don’t download the “main product” you can cancel it so maybe it’s fine after all.
Get DS4Windows to trick your PC into thinking your DS5 is a 360 controller. Then get AntiMicro. Look in the THPS3 launcher for keyboard controls and then bind those to controller buttons in AntiMicro. You’ll need to do this for most of the PC ports most likely.
A Pc with a better CPU than mine, like a 6700, or 7700k, could perferom better, but it would still not be 30 fps, some games have really bad performances, some way worse than THP8, and some better. It depends on the game, on its compatiblity with the emulator, and things like that. It's evolving frequently, the emulator is making great progress. This is the adapter that I bought all the way back in 2009.

Like I said before, it requires a wired Microsoft branded 360 controller, and its best to turn off rumble, otherwise both controllers rumble at the same time. This is a non-issue for me since I don't like playing THPS with rumble anyway. Also, you can not use wired headset for voice chat attached to the wired 360 controller with this adapter.
If you do go this route, it is highly recommended to use DualShock 1, because DualShock 2 and 3 have pressure sensitive face buttons, and if you're not pressing down HARD on the Ollie button, your skater will unintentionally Ollie, which I can assure you is very annoying mid-combo or mid-goal. Not an issue with DualShock 1 (or 4) of course.
However I just did a web search and saw plenty of new wireless USB stick adapters to use on Xbox 360, I may pick one up, but as of now I can not vouch for them. They don't have a plug for DualShock 1 or 2, but will support 3 and 4 wirelessly.

This is the playstation controller to xbox dongle. Theres a different one for xbox controller to playstation
I actually switched to a GameCube Controller, which I actually bought for playing GC games on my PC. Most of my time with the series was on the GameCube anyway (4, THUG/2, AW), and the A/Y buttons are perfect for doing shuffles and stuff. It feels better than my Xbox One controller, but maybe that's habit. The PS controller also just feels right, because it's what I cut my teeth on back in the day. I don't dislike the XBone controller at all, though.
I've got a dongle coming to connect an older PS2 controller, so I can't wait to set that up to try changing my grip like so.
I use the Logitech F310. It's not very good (analog stick isn't very precise), but it's decent for the price. You can probably use any controller that doesn't require 3rd party software, though.
In July 2017 it was removed from digital platforms including Steam, PSN, and XBL, so you're out of luck if you're trying to buy it from them. But Amazon says they still have codes for pc -> https://www.amazon.com/Tony-Hawks-Pro-Skater-Download/dp/B009CEM332 so you could buy it there for 9.99 (USD), either that or pirate it, but that game is trash imo so I'd recommend either playing the original or getting THUGPRO.
