Exactly. Cherry pie filling is mostly sweet thickened syrup. Canned cherries are literally cherries.
Edited to add it's like comparing canned tomatoes with tomato sauce. They may have an ingredient in common, but they're totally different things.
Not even joking, we do sell old phonebooks. I have local area directories from the 1930s to the 1980s, people buy them for the historical information.
Phone books used to be much cooler - like a little Facebook profile. It had your name, your profession, how many people lived in the house, if you were married, if you owned the house...
And it had reverse street address lookup. If you were wondering who lived on 343 Oak Street, just check the phone book.
Glad that your manager stuck up for you.
However, there are wireless chargers where you can put a compatible phone on the charging mat and not have to plug it in to charge.
Here is an example of one: https://www.amazon.com/Wireless-AHNR-Magnetic-Charging-Compatible/dp/B07JF8CC6Q/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1543457109&sr=8-3&keywords=wireless+charging+for+iphones
A word that English needs comes to mind: Backpfeifengesicht. A German word that basically means, "A face badly in need of a fist."
Edit: Special bonus! If you don't know how to pronounce it, here you go!
I hate the customers who think you're a mind reader. From today: Customer: "My kid needs the book for school."
Me: "Which school, which grade, and which class?"
Customer: "I DON'T KNOW! THE ONE THE KIDS HAVE TO READ!"
Me: "It could be Fahrenheit 451, Outliers, The Things They Carried, Catch-22, How to Read Literature Like a Professor, People's History of the United States, The Autobiography of Malcolm X, The Narrative of Frederick Douglass, The Scarlet Letter, The History of the World in Six Glasses, A Little History of the World, Historical Thinking, or Dandelion Wine. That's just from the closest high school. Should I ring them all up?"
Customer: "UGH! MY KID GOES TO [private school about 20 miles away.]"
Me: "Then I have no clue."
Customer: "THAT'S RIGHT YOU DON'T."
There is a website that does exactly this, if people would bother to use the google: http://www.kids-in-mind.com/
However, shitty parents are always going to be shitty parents and not bother to research this kind of stuff then blame their mistake on other people.
There is a set of teething keys that have gel in them. On the package it says do not freeze, sanitize (boil), or put them in the dishwasher. There are several Amazon reviews bitching about how they exploded after being put in the freezer.
Edit: Amazon link, sort by 1 star. The stupid is real.
She's more or less right. Disney owns both, and the Toy Story comics are published under the Marvel label.
Example: https://www.amazon.com/Toy-Story-Tales-Disney-Comics/dp/0785165061
It's really only the "superhero" part that's debatable, and mostly comes down to which Buzz we're talking about. The Buzz Lightyear that the toy is modeled after is certainly a superhero, part of a Guardians of the Galaxy style team with his own direct-to-video movies.
So I'd would call "Buzz Lightyear is a Marvel Superhero" a true statement, but "Buzz Lightyear from Toy Story is a Marvel Superhero" a false one.
My daughter is old enough to bathe herself, but if I did happen to have another kid right now, I'd be really glad I have this kind of sink in my laundry room. I'd find it far easier to use that until the kid's in preschool lmao it'd be so much easier on my knees!
We're not really having a conversation about what's "acceptable", but whether it was a mistake or not. Considering the rest of that story was not written in 18th century British English and contained other minor typographical errors, it was a spelling mistake, not a a purposeful effort to use an archaic spelling. It wouldn't matter so much, but we're talking about a school teacher, whose writing serves as an example of correct spelling to children. Nobody today should be learning 18th century English instead of 21st century English; it only makes them look foolish in front of potential colleges and employers.
The biggest reason is anti-theft.
Can't steal a car you can't steer, even if you can get inside and start it.
Ever see "The Club Lock" or any of those other anti-theft wheel locks? They're basically just add-on steering wheel locks if your car doesn't already have one.
(Of course, none of these will stop a thief, just slow them down a bit. FYI, adding a "club" to a car with a factory steering lock makes it easier to steal.)

Her grandmother told me it was severed by the leash,
A simple Google search would inform you of how common injuries are due to retractable leash use. Here is just one source
Quote from above source "In 2007 there were 16,564 hospital-treated injuries associated with leashes, according to Consumer Union's analysis of statistics collected by the Consumer Product Safety Commission. Of those, about 10.5 percent involved children 10 and younger; 23.5 percent involved injuries to the finger. The CPSC's data does not parse the leashes into types but it's likely that the amputations were caused by retractable leashes.
The most common injuries reported were burns and cuts, usually sustained when the cord came in contact with skin as it rapidly paid out from the handle of a leash. Others occurred when the cord got wrapped around part of the owner or the dog."
Mode memory is pretty common in the flashlight world, you almost have to go out of your way to find a light without it. Which I guess would mean most lights at a retail location...
But you can get a light with mode memory for less than $60. The Convoy S2+ is about $18, and the Skilhunt H03 retails for $52, but can often be had for less than $35 with a coupon.
These two lights will blow just about any other light their size out of the water, for most people. At least until you start messing with triples and FET builds.
See also r/flashlight.

We call it "Duct tape" in US, seems y'all British folks call it "Gaffer tape" (Amazon UK). Wrap up the coins and notes box with cling film or aluminum foil, followed by three full and complete, all-the-way-around, circumferential wraps of Gaffer tape. The cling film makes it possible to cut off the tape later, without adhesive sticking on the machine permanently.

It's a pretty common policy. If you paid with a credit card it would immediately go back on the card.
For example, Best Buy: >Your refund will generally be in the same form as the original purchase. However, when the item was paid for with cash or debit card without a major credit card logo in an amount greater than $500, or paid for by check in an amount greater than $250, the refund will be in the form of a check mailed within 10 business days of the return. Any amounts deducted from a gift card or Pitch In card will be credited to the gift card or Pitch In card used.
And Fry's:
>Refunds will be issued as follows: (1) Check purchases by check (2) Credit card purchases by credit issued to the credit card used in the original purchase transaction (3) Debit card purchases by credit issued to the debit card used in the original purchase transaction (4) Cash purchases by cash, unless the refund is over $500, which will then be refunded by a check mailed from Fry'™s Home Office.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
This needs 3 left arms. ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯
<- Like So.
Long Explanation Follows.
The \ and _ characters are formatting characters in the markdown language used by Reddit. The backslash formatting character is used to escape the formatting character following it.
¯_(ツ)_/¯ <- One backslash prevents the underscore from activating. The second underscore becomes inactive (and visible) because it has no active pair.
¯\(ツ)/¯ <- Two backslashes. The first backslash prevents the second backslash from being used as a formatting character, thus turning it into a visible character. The underscore no longer has an active backslash directly in front of it, thus it italicizes everything between it and the other underscore.
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ <- Three backslashes. The first backslash deactivates second, rendering it visible. Third backslash deactivates the underscore, rendering it visible. Underscore following face has no other underscore to pair with, thus it remains visible.
I made this a macro in RES. Now 2 seconds of my time can make a difference to people across the globe.
It's what editors use in a quote when the source material is incorrect, generally if it has a typo. We use this because if you correct a spelling error in a quote, then what else might you have changed about it?
OP's use isn't necessary, since "ain't" really is a word (The Oxford English Dictionary says it's a word, and that's as close to official as the English language gets.), but it's one that people like to be snooty about because, as the OED says, it's not a part of formal English. But talking to customer service doesn't require formal English (like being a news anchor would, for example), so there's nothing wrong with the usage.

Sold printer ink (and refil kits) from several different locations around Australia.
Same problem exists here as well.

No, if you open the packaging, we cannot accept it as a return.

Google may say that, but "Nos fregado el suelo" makes no sense... it needs to be "Nosotros fregamos el suelo" or "Nosotros hemos fregado el suelo". Source
(Yes, "we mopped" (past) is exactly the same as "we mop" (present) - Spanish is like that.)
Yes. In the book "The Millionaire Next Door" they talked exactly about this. The person who really has the money stashed away is more likely to be driving around in a 5 year old GMC Jimmy they bought used than the shiny new Lexus right off the showroom floor. Those are the folks more likely to be in debt up to their eyeballs.
Or get one of these for the counter.
Best thing I can tell you is research! Read and understand the terminology of the business and assume nothing!
The biggest mistakes people make can be broken down into a few key points:
Above all else: WHEN IN DOUBT, BE PREPARED TO WALK AWAY Dealers will come crawling back to you for your business, trust me.
IDK if you can get Kak to read a book, but this one is fantastic for decluttering. "The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up" It makes such good sense!
Go on, then. State your (well-regarded, culturally valid) source on "witch" meaning "wise" and being a "positive" term, and all will be forgiven.
Hint: don't bother checking Wiktionary, Merriam-Webster, or dictionary.com, none of them support your position. The last one, I note, even refers users to the word "wicked" as its origin. Which, unless you consider "evil or morally bad in principle or practice; sinful, iniquitous" to have a positive connotation, is indeed wholly a negative term.
I take great offense to people who attempt to criticize others needlessly because YOUR perception of the world does not fit in with EVERYONE ELSE'S, and instead of realizing "hey, my perspective and ideas are a little unique; let me first examine mine and see if there's any merit to them. If I decide not to change, I'll see what I can do to peacefully coexist with the majority view" -- no, you just have to change the way everyone else goes about their lives, because your ideas (which are factually incorrect in the first place, and deserve no merit) are apparently superior to everyone else's. Why?
I'm just starting college and don't make my own money yet, but I can tell I'll be enjoying that stuff very much as well. I can imagine what it must be like to buy something and feel like I've actually earned it. Or have money in the bank that I made, using my skills in a job. Just, like, checking balance and stuff. I'm overlooking the crippling sense of responsibilty that comes with that of course, but other than that, it sounds like a lot of fun! I'll take being responsible for myself over vaguely guilt-ridden entitlement any day.
Edit: ever heard of Simple? Looks really good for budgeting. I wonder how much they paid for that domain name
This is patently false. AppleCare+ for iPhone extends the original warranty to two years from one year. (iPad info here)
It has other stuff that doesn't really fall under the term warranty, like extending phone support from 90 days to two years, and max two incidents of accidental damage w/$79 fee ($49 for iPads.) Having those extra benefits doesn't mean it's not a warranty; they're not mutually exclusive.
> Redditors in general [...] are full of shit.
I'm sure you're aware that's an over-generalization, and I further hope you'll agree with me it might not even be a majority of redditors who feel that way; it's just that the loudest voices get heard. I will agree with you that it's a sad fact that the type of comment we're discussing seems to be fairly popular, but...
...I take issue with the advice of "Don't even try". I think we should try. I think we owe it to ourselves and our fellow redditors to try, and keep trying, and remind each other that this shit isn't good for us or for the targets of our hatred. I hesitate to repeat a hoary old adage like all that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing, but it seems appropriate in this case.
That said, I don't claim to be any kind of authority (though I will admit to being a pompous ass sometimes). What do you think?
I can't take credit for the circle of influence thing. The theory has been around for a long time and researched extensively. Steven Covey covers a version of it in "The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People".

Obviously what that kid did was absolutely ridiculous, inappropriate, and disgusting (disposing of gum anywhere other than the garbage can is infuriating enough as it is!) But I must say.... after looking at her works, that was by far the most boring painting he could have defaced. Their isn't a central registry for DXM purchases in TX, as far as I can tell, states even like CA that require an age to purchase (TX isn't actually one, it's just this guy's store policy) still don't have a central registry for one.
Anonymity helps this lady not one little bit, as it isn't illegal to purchase huge amounts of DXM.
Here's a helpful amazon link to buy it at $21 per 1.8g of DXM
I once got a ~30 page .pdf from a professor, but it was because he had literally written the book we were using for the course. The book store was charging somewhere above $100 for the brand new edition so he told us to just buy the old one (no more than ~$20, brand new) and sent us all the pages that had been added/changed. :D
edit: this was many years ago so this isn't the actual edition in question, but shoutout to Ken Pohlmann anyways.

~~I don't have a source for this and~~ it's been a while since I heard it so my apologies if this information is incorrect, but from what I understand jeeps were first designed by the military to use as general purpose cars. General Purpose became GP, which became "jeep". So... yeah, G as in Jeep.

Plus a working shrug ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
>Apple has never had an issue that egregious.
Other than exploding batteries, you mean?
FYI, I personally did at least 50 work orders for melted Apple batteries when I was working IT at a college helpdesk. The college in question had maybe 300 Apple laptops in circulation, I was at the helpdesk five years. Do the math.
At one point in '09 (or maybe late '08) we had to gather over two hundred batteries for a mass safety recall, to replace them with a kind that was less prone to violent explosions, and more prone to slower meltdowns. Let me reiterate: Apple replaced a product that exploded a lot with a product that exploded slightly less.
Everyone fucks up QC. No exceptions. Any laptop you get today is equivalent to rolling the lottery, regardless of manufacturer. Apple just happens to charge more for less.
I looked at Apple's iOS product warranty for the US and I saw no such clause: https://www.apple.com/legal/warranty/products/ios-warranty-document-us.html
They do say this:
> Important: Do not open the Apple Product. Opening the Apple Product may cause damage that is not covered by this Warranty. Only Apple or an AASP should perform service on this Apple Product.
But that's totally within their rights, and doesn't say that the warranty is void. They can tell you that you should do something as much as they want. What they can't do is place requirements on you, and as far as I can see they do not.
As for people being denied service for third-party parts, got any examples of that?

Yes, and I spent a lot of money during the first few sales I encountered.
https://steamdb.info/calculator/?player=mrcollins&currency=ca says I haven't played 130 of the games I own. I also have like 35 games in my inventory because I might gift/trade them rather than putting them into my library, but probably not.
Many diet soda's and drinks use sugar alternatives like aspartame that don't affect insulin (blood sugar) levels. Same goes for cookies and the like.
That's not to say they don't have side effects of their own.
I personally use Stevia as my alternative, but that's down to personal taste.
As to the excuse making, that's usually either a lack of self-control, which we are all guilty of at some point, a cheat day (I will have a small piece of cake on my birthday for example), or sugar addiction. Using insulin as a coping mechanism for excessive eating of sugar is usually the first or third option.
Don't format it. Use photorec and run that against the card, and have it store recovered files elsewhere. It's free software, and works very well. NEVER write to media you are attempting to recover from, it's not necessary.
That said, the quick format option in Windows doesn't erase much of anything, but still. You don't have to do that.
If you google empty teabags you'll see them. They're great if you like to make your own blends or you're into herbal tea. I usually get these ones online or in Asian supermarkets (not sure why they're so expensive on amazon, I rarely pay over $2 a packet in the store.)
Oops, I relied upon this (photo @ amazon uk) to help me find the British equivalent expression to "duct tape" (photo @ amazon us)
Not exactly. There are some online retailers using a third-party website that buys those giftcards from the online customer and turns it into money the website can use.
For example, you can use Star Bucks (or other store) gift cards to purchase Private Internet Access usage.
That's actually the best thing I've read in a while! I'll need to give that a shot next time one of my regular customers comes in!
As for scorching your soy, that's very strange. Most Starbucks are trying to modernize using the new Masterna machines: http://gizmodo.com/383417/starbucks-new-high-performance-mastrena-espresso-machine.
The steam wands of these machines steam milk automatically, unless set otherwise. They'll typically raise the temperature to ~150 on-screen, which comes out to around ~165 when you factor in heat that the wand didn't have a chance to display.
My mother in law gave us one of these. Holy hell, they are fantastic and so easy to us that my wife's 92 year old grandmother can use it to open jars, or at least pop the vacuum.

I use silicone trivets (like this); thick enough to prevent counter top burning, flexible enough to help with all but the smallest lids, wide enough to cover a bowl of soup in the microwave and you can chuck them in the washing machine to help scrape some of the cat hair off your clothes. Originally Big Red charged a monthly tethering fee and tried blocking tethering apps (I think on 3G and 4G devices), but they got raked over the coals for that plus a hefty fine from the FCC a couple years back (Story Here) -- part of their licenses for the LTE bands have "open access" provisions, which require that
>shall not deny, limit, or restrict the ability of their customers to use the devices and applications of their choice on the licensee's C Block network
Which the FCC says includes tethering and tethering apps (again... for LTE devices on in the C block of frequencies, but practically that means any LTE device on big red)

No. It doesn't say the currency is valid. It says it is a valid and legal offer of payment. The offer of payment is valid.
I mean, y'know, I guess you're right - the business always has the option of swallowing the debt themselves instead of taking cash...
> Legal tender ... is anything which when offered in payment extinguishes the <em>debt</em>.

Can confirm: Lived in Utah my whole life.
Every city is setup as a grid system. There are two roads that intersect near the center of the city generally (may very depending on city) named "Center Street" and "Main Street".
Center Street runs east and west and Main Street runs north and south.
Then the street numbers move out from there. For example, if you are heading north on Main Street you will see the street numbers increase, 100 north, 200 north, etc.
Same for southbound. South of Center Street is 100 south, 200 south, etc.
And the same goes for Center Street. As you head west it will increase 100 west, 200 west, etc.
And again if you head east on Center street it will be 100 east, 200 east, etc.
Our addresses are then formatted pretty much the same as anywhere else. House Number Street Number (or street name. Sometimes streets are named but also have a number equivalent) City, State Zip
For example, 123 N 400 E Salt Lake City, Utah 84101. So this address is on 400 E and between 100 and 200 N (closer to 100 N).
Nope, and that is one of the reasons why I don't trust Google search results, as they can be different for two different people. I have actually seen them different from two computers on same internet connection.
However:
What you are seeing there is not put into Google by Google employees.
In this case Google is acting as an "aggregator" and is pulling information from many different places such as a businesses own website, from other aggregators, site owners webmaster accounts, online yellow pages and so on.
Very little data is actually put in by Google employees, in these type of cases if there is information incorrect in Google search, then the data itself is usually incorrect somewhere else and Google is pulling it from where it is incorrect.
This is why it is best, when you have a website, to have a Google webmaster tools account and be sure to keep information there accurate and be sure to make updated sitemaps and submit those occasionally.
More information on where Google (and other aggregators) get information.
In a nutshell, if Google is showing incorrect information complaining about Google is not going to do much good. It is better to try to find out where the incorrect data actually is and get it fixed or be sure to submit your own data to Google via sitemaps/Google webmaster account.

It wasn't kerosene for cars. It was kerosene for a kerosene heater, presumably. It was the middle of winter and we had people coming in all day, every day, buying kerosene to keep their homes warm.
Here, in the US anyway, all the kerosene I've seen is dispensed from a pump that looks exactly the same as a gasoline pump, but is kept at a separate part of the store so people don't accidentally pump kerosene into their cars and trucks.
It's an old one -- not in a lot of the modern collections. I actually just dug out the book that I had growing up, which definitely features a lot of older (and therefore darker/weirder) versions of the nursery rhymes. For instance: "There was an old woman / who lived in a shoe / she had so many children / she didn't know what to do. / She gave them some broth / without any bread / and whipped them all soundly / and put them to bed." (As opposed to "and kissed them all fondly / and put them to bed" or variations on that theme!)
Anyway, here is a shot of the illustration in question (although I swear it was more bosom-y when I was little, or else maybe I just thought Grandma was fat?): http://i.imgur.com/XMuXDnh.jpg?1
Interesting fact... they aren't that far apart in price. Using Amazon and name brands here because it is easier on the internet (generics may be cheaper, but I'm not going through that effort).
A sheet of Kleenex is about double the size of the Charmin, so cut its price in half for comparison... $0.025 vs $0.020. That's not THAT big a difference, and depending on what's on sale when and what kind of bulk packaging you can get you can come out ahead.
Don't give up hope! Have you ever tried books geared toward improving handwriting?
When I had my first bookstore job, I had a lot of requests for "you know, that red book." Fortunately, this book had just come out and was the correct answer 90% of the time.

It's been a few years, but Wegman's used to stock it in bottle form. Really brought out the strawberry tones in my beard and the slight amount I have in my hair.
She might like http://smile.amazon.com/dp/B0012V1G0Y - the treats are edible and reasonably cheap, and the ball is a toy when it's empty. The treat lasts hours with my dedicated 50-lb monster, you can flip the treat upside down, and my less-dedicated 15-lb loverpup likes the treats without the ball.
I bought these puppies about a year ago:
I have two lobe piercings in each ear; I wear these in the higher one usually to accent the lower lobe earring.
They're kind of cheaply made, but they work really well for my purpose. :)
Besides headphones if you're listening on a pc with a s/pdif output, get a dac if you can afford it. I use the smsl SD793-II. My headphones are HD 439s, although I could probably upgrade it still sounds pretty great.

Perhaps a good pair of leather driving gloves, that you wash every day when you get home? That would provide a layer of insulation from the germs everywhere, and they look more classy than latex.
Another thing regarding the coins, is maybe if you got one of those coin purses like this and just opened it to allow the cashier to drop your change into it? That would keep you from having to touch the coins before you wash them.
