This - it's our second one and was more successful than we ever imagined! Basically it's decks of cards that are add-ons or aids for tabletop roleplaying games and/or story-telling/writing
My brother introduced me to IFTTT.
The only thing I have it doing so far is changing my Instagram photos to native Tweets, but he has it do things like change his phone profile (e.g. silent, loud) depending on his location as he has a 9-5 job. It is very, very cool.
they fly to Zadar, and its not in the middle of nowhere (like a 20 min bus to the town i think?), could be a nice croatian visit for a weekend, and its pretty cheap. Not sure about the hostel side, but the beers are like £1.30 there etc.
Yes, yes there was - it was a forerunner to the larger and more involved game SCP Containment Breach. All of which is based on the SCP wiki articles.
Not trying to be a philistine (on this occasion, normal service will be resumed shortly) but this shiny little puppy knocks spots off cafetières, jugs, filters, and stove-top percs.
That's Freecycle gold right there.
Here is a potential site for hosting http://www.classmarker.com/ (see creating engaging online quizzes link in orange)
If a mod is prepared to register an account it can be done. There are other such sites, that was just the first one google got me to.
Have you tried PayPal instead? It's up to 45 days there.
Failing that, your bank via the card you paid with for fraudulent goods or something?
It was a new model when I got it the other year at £700, though looks like they've come down below the £600 mark now. Can happily recommend it as an entry-level road bike. I'd been on MTBs and hybrids most of my life before this one, it was quite a change but I'd find it impossible to be without a road bike now, they're ludicrously fun! Can break 30mph on the flat and 40mph on the downhill :D
Weekdays is mostly just keeping the legs in - the lighter evenings have helped recently! I'll usually go do a quick 10 miles or so after work each night, then a longer ride at the weekend. Gradually increase the amount in the panniers to get used to the weight required, and train using the same food & nutrition that I'll be using on the day as well. But it never gets easier - you just get faster!
Ahah! Well, these guys are providers of hosted telephony solutions for call centres, all cloud-based scalability stuff. The scope for some of it is pretty cool, plus I'll get to play more with Asterisk which I've had some chuckles with in the past.
Doing up bikes can be a fun hobby - I do maintenance & repairs on the side for friends & family myself. It's a nice change from working as a keyboard warrior to working on something mechanical with hands and tools and oil, and quite rewarding when a clunky, cranky old bike gets turned into a smooth, silent gliding steed. JFDI man; if you want to do it, just start doing it :)
Gimp is effetely a free version of Photoshop. Not quite the same layout, and missing a few bells and whistles. It can be as complex or as simple as you wish it to be. Plenty of online resources including a subreddit to help you out. For me I prefer more digital paint so opt for Krita to photo manipulation. I try to take a great photo first time rather than mess with it later.
Arf! TIL about Henry Beard - thanks.
I'd be quite tempted to fix my gaze on the nearest person in a purple robe and shout "Quantum illae stolae pependisti?"
Death would likely be quick, but I'd go down a hero to the plebs.
> Which direction should we be looking?
Up. Much up.
They can appear anywhere but they all radiate from the constellation of Perseus so that's a good direction to look in. Look East at 60^o elevation and you should be near enough.
If you really want to know exactly where Perseus is, and all the other sky things too, then try one of the excellent sky viewers like Stellarium.
If you want to do this easily, there is a greasemonkey script (called "delete all reddit comments") that will automatic delete your comment history but leave your karma (This doesn't actually delete your comments cos you can't do that but marks them as deleted so they can't be read publicly)
I use this to nuke my account every few months
Yeah it tends to be pretty good. We usually do all the big weights; Deadlifts, Squats etc.. But then after the sprinter has us planking, doing ring dips, box jumps.. all kinds. Tends to be pretty well mixed. The end stuff is always the bit that has me sweating!!
I've always got a few books on the go, I'm 3/4 the way through Stephen King's book 'On Writing', just started 'The Social Contract' by Rousseau and last night I started 'Jonathon Strange & Mr Norrell', which seems like it's going to be quite interesting..
Yeah I heard about Hinkley Point C, wonder if it will happen as it needs a hike in Electricity prices. No role for me, being in Sweden and all.
Glad you asked for recommendations - read the Mythical Man Month, it is a classical piece of literature on Software Development , its from the 60s 70s but holds true even today,
and Code Complete, by Steve Mcconnell (I have met him in the US a few times)
probably enough with those two to start with..
Sticking with the theme of musical covers Bastille's cover of City High's - What Would You Do? Is pretty sweet.
Moving away from that Sun Tzu's book "The Art of War" is pretty fucking awesome.
Sticky. Very sticky. Of course it doesn't help that I have the fluffiest dressing gown known to humanity, but bloody hell it's hot in here (shut it /u/errant_tree and /u/executivemonkey). Which leads on to the dress problem. Manufacturers of summer dresses seem to be having a laugh at our expense. Either they don't put any padding in at all so your nips poke up for all to see, or they do, but then it shrinks in the wash, leaving plaster-sized small triangular pieces of padding that you can't do anything with, unless you cut them out, because if you leave them in, they look as though you have large, triangular shaped nipples. But when you cut them out, it's nip o'clock again.
So. It's a bit frustrating. Yes... I can hear the waves of sympathy from the pub's male patrons.
Other than that, all is well thank you. I have coffee and a sweet overnight email has made me smile.
I used to listen to Macconie in the mornings but he was too chirpy and it began to anger me, so now I listen to back-episodes of Wittertainment instead.
Edit: this heat is killing my boozing. I only managed one can of beer and left the second after opening it last night! :O
Edit 2: I want to go to San Francisco
Edit 3: LOOK AT MY EDIT 2, YOU ALL NEED TO SEE IT FFS
I am going very slowly at the moment, coming towards the end of the second Game of Thrones books, it has been a slog while also trying to keep up with other things. Again really enjoyed it like the first one, I am just not used to the long slogs of these books so does take me a little longer to get through.
Looking forward to moving on to a more psychology book from the England and Liverpool FC psychologist (he's worked with other top athletes include Rebecca Pendleton), Steve Peters. The book is called The Chimp Paradox, although I don't necessary think I need, I thought it might be interesting. It is all about controlling the chimp (or emotional brain) in order to gain happiness and success.
Then will be on to a few smaller novels I have collected in the meantime.
A chaser is a drink following basically anything.
Can be a shot after a pint, a soft drink after a hard one, even a drink after food (as in, "...chased down with...").
Dictionaries will tell you that it is only one of the above, but they all disagree! Then again, the definitive source has nice definitions for both the US and British Englishes.
> My condolences
ah it's actually even worse than that, not even pure php but drupal.
the framework which thinks that
> You can specify multiple permissions by separating them with ',' (comma) for AND logic or '+' (plus) for OR logic.
is sensible. yes because everybody reads "+" as meaning OR, of course, the natural choice. and then a couple of paragraphs down
> You can combine module names with a + (plus) for an AND relationship or , (comma) for an OR relationship.
Oh great we'll use the same symbols in the same block of code to mean EXACTLY THE OPPOSITE.
can't even fathom how anybody dreamt up anything so blatantly cracked-out and brain-dead in the first place, let alone got it accepted by an entire committee of other devs on the project.
yeah, i know, i should really be going home each day and busting my balls learning django or something, but i hate web dev in general tbh, the last thing i want to do is a millisecond more of it than i'm paid for
I am currently on my first re through the Game of Thrones books. Just started the Clash of the Kings. Really enjoying it so far, but then again I loved the first book and this seems to be getting better. I like already how some of the characters seems better written, especially in dialogue.
I have just finished reading Hatching Twitter the tale of the beginnings of Twitter and a lot of the drama that has surrounded the fights for power and credit. Their is a definite narrative and Nick Bilton definitely tries to create definite good guys and bad guys. But that for me made it a better more flowing read to hold that narrative.
But interesting to see the development of a business that now holds strong ties to the modern world, communication and business.
I can't remember if I spoke about Neil Gaimann's Ocean at The End of The Lane in the last book thread. But it has to be the best book I have read this year. A lovely fantastical story of childhood and friendship this was my first Gaimann read and I definitely want to pick up some of his other books now.
bot hungover. Free work drinks lastnight. cute redhead waitress though.
weekend plan is sleep. Also revision. Got an exam next friday.
not sure yet, probably this one though. I got 80% in a practice test last week, so with some more brushing up I should do ok, I hope!
We stand for what our members stand for, which is detailed in our manifesto (PDF version here, ISSUU version here.). In short, we're mostly socialists and social democrats, who all happen to be environmentalists and pacifists. Any motion to change party policy has to be voted in by a majority of our members. We're a very democratic party. If you don't want to go through the manifesto then I'll answer any questions.
You need to rate that website mate, WOT is showing it as untrustworthy: This reputation has a low confidence, which means not many people have rated the site.
Wow, that's pretty bad English WOT.
Edit: OH. Turns out they are selling clones of Hangsen juices, the naughty people.
cant do majestic so went for drunken kawaii
e2a: Mr T was nicked from 'Digitiser' the excellent channel 4 teletext page about video games, for you youngsters who dont remember teletext
Fill this out anyway, and I'll happily lend you a tenner if you need to get a cheap desk mic (By cheap, I mean they aren't awful, just not attached to a set of headphones.) and fill out the link below so I can add you to the list.
https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/3SKLDBK Fill that out so I can gauge who can come and what they prefer to play as.
How did the Cantina song go down?
Just work today, workout and sleep tonight.
Taking an easy weekend, going to do some house cleaning, tidy my front garden up and just watch tv and read I think. NFL playoffs on Sunday night.
Currently reading Making Money - Pratchett at home which I should finish this weekend, and Thinking, Fast and Slow by Daniel Kahneman on my dinner at work. It's an interesting read but it's quite slow going so will take a while. I've decided this year I'm going to finish all the half read books on my shelf too.. That should be interesting!
I'm doing at best a half day today as I'm off to a wedding this evening, so that should be fun. Girlfriend has her first summer exam for the year this morning so there's stress there.
I have so many books on the go. I'm on the third The Expanse book, which are enjoyable and have been turned into a super naff syfy series. Got the kindle so I also have a load of classics that were free to read, so I'm mostly done with The Prince, then I'll do The Art of War and maybe Sherlock Holmes or Candide or The Diary of Samuel Pepys.
Are you reading at all?
> I'm doing at best a half day today as I'm off to a wedding this evening, so that should be fun. Girlfriend has her first summer exam for the year this morning so there's stress there.
You still dating that darling you dragged along to the meet in December my man?
Good luck to her :)
A wedding... I predict drunk?

Good god man how do you read multiple books at the same time?! At the moment, I have to admit that I'm not. I'm writing a crap tonne at the moment due to my new drugs though, which is awesome.
Lets talk about smug parents all trying to outdo each other with kids costumes for school..... Grr.
Just finished 'When Breath Becomes Air' by Paul Kalanthi and previously to that it was 'Blood and Guts a history of surgery' by Richard Hollingham. Currently I am reading Bill Bryson's a short history of everything, I have read it before but it's my go to book when I am waiting for other books to arrive, or I need an 'emergency' book to read at work, like today.
> Work is very slow today so just sat pissing around until 15.36 when I get to go home (ie my digs).
Wish mine was, just discovered someone changed a fundermental way a calculation is done half way through the month... HOW FUCKING FUN IS THAT?! Cunts.
> The weekend will consist of baking those rose apple things everyone in r/food has been knocking out lately
I might bake sunday. Cookies for evvverryone!
> Got a 4 pack of Hobgoblin in the fridge and a bottle of Pino Gregio from Waitrose to work though.
Sounds like a mix of decent night... oh wait "Shit housed" night :P
> Books - Stephen King: On Writing. Which hopefully will inspire me to do some writing. I'm planning on writing a couple of short stories just to get into the routine of writing but I'm not finding any inspiration right now.
I've never read a King novel, I feel ashamed by that... but I just never got round to reading them!
Music! Music provides me entirely with my inspiration depending on my mood I find!
> FILMS - Nothing lined up but well open to suggestions, always looking for new things to watch.
have you seen Legend?
> I'm really enjoying cooking at the moment. Loving spending my evenings knocking up new things, gives me quite the buzz. Spend most of my day looking for recipes/ideas then having a go at home.
Suddenly worried you're my better half.

TV - I've been re-watching The Newsroom but I've only 1 episode left. Need to do season 3 of Vikings too.

I don't have gold so no mentions, sadly. Well, last month was fucking horrible (for books that is). I simply could not decide what I wanted to read so here's a weird selection.
The Fault in Our Stars by John Green - Good story, kind of tear jerking but horrible, horrible dialogue. My brain got all mushy and shit, the kind of mushy when you're audibly saying 'the fuck did she say?'. Now I'm a big rom-com-drama dude but lol, fuck this book so much. The movie will have the most horrible dialogue in existence. I'd rather watch 50 Shades of BDSM.
Edit : Book is pretty short, I finished it in like an hour. Just 200 pages I think.
On Writing by Stephen King - Well, I'm kind of a passionate writer but not good enough to make it to traditional publishing so I thought I'd step up my game. I'm still going through it, it's a very entertaining read.
Full Dark, No Stars by Stephen King - It's Stephen King, the fuck do you expect? It's awesome.
Dear Mr. Henshaw by Beverly Cleary - This book was actually Logan Lerman's favourite book in the movie Stuck in Love and I'm weird so I decided I'd read it. It was pretty great, nice story over all.
Short Stories by Leo Tolstoy - My mom gifted them to me when I was young, stories are pretty simple but great. Worth a read, especially The Death of Ivan Ilych
So yeah, didn't get to read that much.
I read The Art of War by Sun Tzu today and I'm about to start reading Che Guevara's Motorcycle Diaries again because it's my favourite book.
Yeah, my book shelf makes me look like I'm planning a communist revolution.
Your T-Shirt is extremely decadent.
I've always found Staedtler to make good quality graphite pencils and erasers etc, so I assume their coloured pencils would be pretty good quality too, and these have good reviews and they are not expensive
I'm currently reading "Artificial Intelligence for Humans, Volume 3: Deep Learning and Neural Networks" which quite frankly is even less interesting than it sounds.
http://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00A6K4DCK An impulse buy when I saw how cheap it was. I have spent the last month pulling cat5e cables, (and redoing the coax for the tv and virgin media) through the house and this would have been useful had it arrived on time. It has been worth it now the only devices on the wifi are phones and tablets.
yeah pick up one of the decent logitech 2.1's in that case - something like this - 33 quid for a decent 2.1 with a sub.
Angry letters are to my kids school academy sponsors (with copies to the new MP and press). They took over the school a year ago and have pissed everyone off by being very corporate on one hand and seriously crap on the other. Only 40% of the IT equipment is serviceable and the teachers are having to buy their own pencils for the kids to write with ect ect
The book was Minds Eye I went through a big Gibson phase and really enjoyed Neuromancer. This book is not like that.
>Why don't you just buy an old oil rig?
I'm a hippy for christs sakes. I can't go floating around on an old rig! Besides years ago I used to work on the rigs running non destructive tests on stuff and even the new ones are falling to bits. No, I want an Island in the Indian Ocean and I'm not settling for less.
Internet is now with BT with a VPN. I used to be with A&A but now the kids can stream HD 24/7 the bandwidth cap only lasted a week a month. We have too many computers and connected things here to have a 100gig cap. It worked when our connection was wank but with the advent of local FTTC - no chance.
I agree that cutting firewood is fun. There is something very satisfying about it. I normally start at this time of year doing my kindling for the winter and working slowly through a pile of stuff I have liberated from skips and the side of the road. I guess we use 4 - 5 tonnes a year so its a continual process or a massive job.
Good luck.
I found replacement for my Sennheiser's were always available from Maplin's, maybe pop in there before you spunk your money at amazon?
Alternatively, these have measurements so you can see if they fit yours:
