Simple Fog module lets you apply fog to a hex - https://foundryvtt.com/packages/simplefog
I bought the ToA map bundle from Mike Schley which has versions with no annotations/grid. Been adding markers for points of interest manually and use the hex grid overlay within Foundry which makes it reasonably easy to reveal as they go.
Toy stores or toy aisles at big department stores usually have sleeves or buckets of dinosaurs. Also consider craft stores like Michaels.
I can highly recommend the complete official map set which you can buy on amazon. You can use dry erase markers on it and everything comes of easily with a wet cloth. Can be bought in multiple gaming stores or on amazon. It also includes maps for Omu, Port Nyanzaru and of course a huge player map with the jungle of chult hidden (and a dm map with everything visible).

edit: AGH I'm an idiot. I thought you were talking about Area 50. Ignore this.
This mirror is a Mirror of Life Trapping, which is a magic item in the standand rules. You can read about it here on roll20:
https://roll20.net/compendium/dnd5e/Mirror%20of%20Life%20Trapping#content
Here's the important part:
> An extradimensional cell is an infinite expanse filled with thick fog that reduces visibility to 10 feet. Creatures trapped in the mirror's cells don't age, and they don't need to eat, drink, or sleep. A creature trapped within a cell can escape using magic that permits Planar Travel. Otherwise, the creature is confined to the cell until freed.
To do this economically, I'd suggest a mixed strategy.
Get some clear vinyl, PET, or acrylic sheets, and use them as overlays. You can draw out your maps in advance, and lay them over the battle mat as necessary. (They also keep your mat from getting stained.) For small areas, you can use cheap 8.5x11" ones; to cover the whole mat, I have some of these.
Then, for particular areas which you'll visit repeatedly (like the central staircase), you can print or draw permanent maps on paper.
In addition to flexibility, this gets you out of hiding large parts of a full-floor map, most of which you aren't actually using.
I played a Wizard in ToA, and I wound up with Vorn. At the time, I wasn't able to find a suitable D&D mini, so I bought The Iron Giant. It was great, particularly with a tiny Gnome mini perched on him.
This isn't an affordable enemy, but it might be interesting. Definitely worthwhile if he winds up in the party; it's a very solid toy of good quality, which I keep on my shelf. I don't think of the movie at all when I see him, just the adventure.
Yeah, you need to send it to a poster-printing service or use a large-format printer if you're lucky enough to have one handy. Alternately, export it as a raster image and use PosteRazor to split it up into multiple 8.5"x11" sheets.
I thought the figure looked familiar and it’s a great Harry Potter Basilisk sculpt.

The spellplague is a cataclysmic event that happened between third and fourth edition to explain the several mechanic changes that were made during that transition.
Also a lot of time passed in Forgotten Realms oficial timeline and many iconic NPC's and organizations either died or changed. They have to come up with crazy explanations why famous characters are still alive, such as Volo and the inkeeper at the Yawning portal. The Zentarim, for example, used to be one of the main antagonists and are now portrayed as a necessary evil kind of faction.
What I did for my Tomb of Annihilation campaing was just to run it during the more familiar and grounded 3.0 days campaing setting days. 1374 DR - The year of the Lighning storms to be precise. In my game, instead of the spellplague, there was a violent Tsunami 9 years ago that hit the right side of the penninsula. Mezro vanished, the other towns and ports were destroyed and the economic collapse made Amnian colonists decide to move on to Maztica and other places, granting Nyanzaru independence. Without the power of Mezro the undead started to spread inside the jungle and are now becoming a real concern to the merchant princes.
