I have the same car, except it's a 2003 2.5T AWD.
Prepare to have like a decently sized 10 year repair bill. Timing belt, motor mounts, etc. Here's the stuff that was wrong in my Volvo when I bought it.
Here's my check up when I went for my first oil change. It's in Google docs
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B_NCEuSqkRF9VjhqQkdVNm0tZUVQdmJEMmlMdzJ0b2VwS1hr/edit?usp=sharing
Anyways, that bill can be reduced in half if you do the oil change, transmission fluid changes, mounts, and some of the easier stuff yourself.
Overall, very manageable, and a great car.
Attached is a link to Amazon for a tow hook adapter for a license plate. This is for the S60, I got one about a year ago for my own. I would look to see if there is something similar for a v60 (although I'm 99% the front of the V60 is the same). Just don't get a "universal" one because it doesn't fit Volvo, I tried.

Got this for my 850 and it was the best $150 I ever spent. I thought the price was too good to be true but I’ve had it for a year now with no problems whatsoever. My girlfriend was jealous and ended up getting her one for her Forrester and installed the backup camera for it too. Can’t beat CarPlay in an old ass car. Just make sure you get the wire harness in person at a physical store because Amazon sent me the wrong harness 3 times in a row
Also my friend got one in his s60 and he loves it.
Plus you can add the Volvo logo to the boot screen which is cool lol
I have this one
But I think this is the exact same thing branded under another name and it’s cheaper on Amazon currently with the coupon. Also Amazon returns are easier and free if it doesn’t work.

This design of rear lights would be either S60 or S80 from 2001 to ~2008 or the S40 also from mid 00s to ~2012
The side rear window before the C pillar not being part of the rear door (unlike that of the S60 and S80) points me more towards an S40. The relatively modern and "smoother"/"softer"/"rounder" shape also points me towards an S40.
I would say this: https://www.amazon.com/Volvo-2011-S40/dp/B011D9GNAM
Hope this helps
Yep, they are called hitch cargo carriers. I have one and its ace for hauling stuff I dont want in the car. I use it for mulch/soil bags, took 30+ gallons of paint to the town disposal unit and its a good platform for my dog to use getting in and out of the back. Also drove about 1000 miles with luggage on it with no problems. I see a guy in town with one who hauls around a lawn mower with his Buick Le Sabre with one of these lol.
Got mine at Harbor Freight for $30 on clearance but they are not that expensive anyway.
I have a 2010 v50 R-Design and I had the same issue. My wife and I setup both our Volvos with a cheap USB Bluetooth adapter with aux out. Both our cars had a USB port and aux port in the center console so we just plugged them in and set up the Bluetooth on my phone for cellphone to the car and audio out to the adapter. Both connect automatically and work fine. This is what we bought USB Bluetooth Receiver for Car, Music Streaming Car Kit, Portable Wireless Audio Adapter 3.5mm Aux Cable https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076QF7FLZ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_nSBICbHAZXGTS
I had this problem on my 240. I used these tail light assemblies:
They seemed to seal pretty well. Is there any damage to the tail light assembly area that's leaving gaps in the seal? Those assemblies sit well under the trunk lid. Are there big gaps between the trunk lid and the trunk? Maybe the rubber seals on the trunk lid are bad? If its not sealing tightly enough then you could use some kind of sealant as long as it still lets you remove the assembly to change bulbs.
Good luck.

You will need to buy an amp bypass harness like so http://www.amazon.com/Metra-70-1120-Wiring-Harness-Bypass/dp/B0002BEQA2
The 740/940 uses an amp located under the dash above the steering column. It's like 15W. You will unplug the harness from that, plug the long harness that comes with that kit into the harness from the amp to the speaker wires. Then snake that through the dash to the radio. There is about 4 feet of wire on the Metra harness. Then, plug the other harness in the kit into the plug you are holding in the picture. That has the 12V/12V switched/ antenna and ground wires in it. Then, splice the wires into your stereo harness and you are good to go. You will also need the install mount which is about $10.
Here is a good writeup. It show an early 740, but the 940 is the same.
http://www.installdr.com/installdocs/volvo/pdf/865001.pdf
I just did an install in my car and it took about an hour with roughly $20 worth of stuff ( sans radio). Ebay is a good source for the hardware. 740 and 940 are interchangeable for single DIN stuff, provided you get the install harness like pictured. Don't get the white 4 pronged one, its only correct for early 740/240 stuff.
Personally I hate the dash install kit for the 740/940. It looks hokey and sticks out too far. The only factory option is to get the stereo box/dash bezel from a 780 Bertone. They had 2 single DIN slots, one for the EQ, one for the Radio. They are NLA new ( and were $$$ anyway) and are always beat up and broken from a junkyard even if you can find one.
Try getting some of this leak-stopper, I had a similar issue to yours (however with my VW) and after having used it I haven’t had any dip in my coolant level. Bar's Leaks 1186 Liquid Aluminum... https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B002696FA2?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
Yeah it’s not great, the high resolution camera is great in the day, not so much at night. I don’t know there are easy solutions, supposedly the reverse lamps are filament bulbs, I’m not so sure though, at least in my S60, all the lighting is LED.
Anyways if you are handy and willing to take it on, I installed a couple reverse light “spotlights” next to the license plate lights above the plate area next to the camera. Not a hard thing to do, other than I got a sedan, I tapped into the reverse light wires going to the tail lamp, but needed to run the wires into the trunk lid. No big deal for me to do though. Solved the problem, plenty of lighting now to improve the camera view in reverse.

Your dash may be smooth enough for one of these Not 100% if the MagSafe will work without using a ferrous plate on the back of your iPad. I really like Spigen’s stuff. It’s all very high quality
> A head gasket leak could also be between oil and coolant channels
Right, someone also pointed that out. I ordered a combustion leak detector:
that will give me a definitive yes or no on the head gasket.
Blue VOLVO sticker missing from the front badge I see.
I went with this one because it's also a fast charger, matches my C70's off-white leather interior, and is powerful enough to hold my iPhone 14 Pro with a huge battery case on it no problem. So far very pleased.
Amazon has windshield hashbrown clips
Stick a few moisture traps in there. Not nice to come back to stuff growing on your seatbelts (speaking from experience). It’s surprising how much gets in even when everything is nicely sealed up.
They’re not expensive. Something like this.
Good point about the brushes.
I live in an area where there is a very low probability that a car will come in after mudding. Most of the cars in front of or behind me in line make me feel poor getting around in my 2021 xc60.
I'm not losing the wiper blade itself. Just the plastic cover over the screw/base of wiper which you have to remove when you change the wiper.
I suppose I could remove the plastic cover myself before the wash but I worry that it's not designed to come on and off frequently.
That said, I appreciate the advice in here to avoid the situation.
On my '04 V70, I use an aux-to-cassette adapter sort of like this. A friend of mine used a bluetooth-to-radio adapter too, but the sound quality was not great.
Something like this https://www.amazon.pl/dp/B07PQSY7WW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_2ZMBP7JRASZDNCB94HCF
you have set of 4 bolts/screwe for your car. This auction is for skoda, but you can find one for volvo. You only have to remember not to lose cap, cos you'll have very big problem with changing tyres.
Thieves won't have time to fight with that, and it will make noise so they'll just leave
No. I have one of those. I’ll attach a link. Basically you pull these over your windows and around the door frame and when you’re camping, if you’re sleeping in your car, you can have the windows open without bugs getting in.
Honestly, it's not complicated. But I can understand what car accessories you want, like a car phone mount? Like a dash cam? I have a recommended car phone holder for your reference.

Best workaround I found when I had an older car was to get a Bluetooth audio adapter that plugs into a 3.5mm jack, plenty of options on Amazon

Good luck with it! I have the same year, a T5 with body color trim, passion red, but not R-Design. This looks really nice in black!
A note on bluetooth, there's a Bluetooth FM transmitter branded as Car and Driver that fits really well in the center console and plugs into the rear seat 12v socket. Car and Driver Transmitter. Just a thought if you wanted an alternative to a new head unit with bluetooth.
No problem! I really loved it in my S80. Wish I could have it in my C30.

Yea I was hoping for something cheaper for the cleaning/maintenance on the leather. But figured I can get it down the road when it’s finally needed.
I had a BMW 330i with very light tan leather and used this brand of leather conditioner. I’ve now became the owner of a gorgeous XC90 with black leather and still use the same leather conditioner.
Among other issues with the 330, I started to see denim transfer actually appearing in the seams of the seats. It was so bad I decided to not wear jeans when I drove the 330, so be careful.

But why not? China seems to have a bad reputation for building inferior products but that doesn't mean they are incapable of building a quality product. Apple builds the most reliable laptop, in China. They also happen to carry a premium price tag.
It all depends on what the manufacturer specifies and their QA process. If Volvo shifted production to China and started choosing the lowest bidder for everything, then I can see how quality would be negatively affected. I see no problem with Volvo making their cars in China so long as the quality meets or exceeds those built in Sweden.

Not sure if this is your size or not. They also sell them on ebay. Not OEM though, but cheap!
Yep, apparently Volvo isn’t either haha. Here’s the CarPlay info
From the article:
“Cars with portrait screens can have the status bar on the bottom of the CarPlay screen, allowing for wider app views and a more natural layout.”
I have a 2015 XC70 and I don't really miss having Carplay/Android Auto. I recommend a Scosche MagicMount; you simply attach it to one of the air vents in the center of the dash and then the phone rests perfectly on the ledge created by the aluminum trim just above the CD slot. I find it works perfectly, the phone never moves around thanks to the ledge, and it's right below the nav screen so it's good for sightlines.
This is the Kinivo Bluetooth adapter I use on a 2008 S80. It was highly recommended on Swedespeed and seems almost made for it. Just plug into the 12v outlet on the back of the center console near the rear foot well. Plug the 3.5mm plug into the jack inside the arm rest. Then just affix the button anywhere on the main waterfall panel. Perfect sound through your speakers and hands free calling. It also remembers your device.

I just bought one of these and stuck it in the USB audio port in my center console.
Put the car audio on “USB” mode, and I can use the steering wheel controls while I play music from my Phone.
There’s like a 1 second delay from when I skip a song to hearing the skip on the speakers, but other than that, it’s fantastic.
First things first, pull off the unbolt the "oh shit" handles on the A-pillar and pop off the trim pieces. You'll see the rubber/vinyl hoses that drain the sunroof into the front fenders. They're either clogged or not even hooked up anymore, so fix that to keep more water from coming in.
It sounds like you already pulled the amp out from under the passenger seat, but you'll find way more than 5 gallons of water under there. If you don't see it park on different inclines or jack the front/rear of the car up to expose the water under there (it's crazy how much water will live down there.
If you don't have a volvo code reader, you can get a knock off one on amazon that will read all the volvo modules for about $85 and that will be very helpful. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015E4UOWU/
Most likely the codes you are seeing are just residual from the water infiltration and you need to clear them and see what codes remain. Space heaters and dry weather will likely fix quite a bit of what ails The driver's side is really hard to get dry since the floormat foam is like a sponge and even if you get the water out, it's still holding a ton of water and there's no drain.

Ha. You know something? It's Monday. Trying to do 16 different things and I think I'm mixing up Carplay and charging here. There are wireless charging options that dig into the cup holder area.
This one, as an example, does not move into the cup holder space much.
My apologies for confusing the two this morning.
As a guess, it could be the USB port that is being used isn't delivering enough power. As an example, my Wii U doesn't provide enough power through one USB port to power a 2.5" HDD enclosure, but it does work if I use a y splitter instead, similar to this one on Amazon:

One end is for data and power, and the other is for additional power only, it could solve the issue if you plug in the additional power one into another port on the car, or through a 12v adapter.
Volvo makes a care kit that is supposed to be better than anything you can buy in a parts store. Most leather care products give the leather a sheen that shouldn't be there. The volvo kit maintains the 'dull' look. However, I haven't tried the other products but that is what I found on the forums.
I was almost going to point you to the Volvo Wheels app but realised just in time that the app only shows a limited selection of (winter) wheels.
My biggest suggestion for a roof rack would be to measure and find one that will allow you to open the trunk when the rack is on. A lot of them are designed for SUVs so overhang the front or back too much on a car.
I got this one in 2014 and used this on my WRX and currently use it on my Volvo. SportRack is Thule's off brand so it is built to last but doesn't have all the features a new rack would have (like either side opening, quick connect) but has a tall profile so you can fit larger bags in vs more slim racks. I paid about half of what it is listed for right now.
does it usually specify when the bearing are pressed or do all assembly come with pressed in bearing? for instance if i were to buy this one on amazon, does it have everything pressed
I bought this. The USB Bluetooth dongle has a 1/8th jack and a short cable that plugs into the aux
Easy peasy.
Under $15 and I get all the Bluetooth my s40 can handle

The only downside is that it’ll play audio as if it’s phone call quality :/
I think that’s the app. Been years since I’ve used it.
Head Unit Reloaded: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=gb.xxy.hr
It's an emulator for the headunit version of Android Auto, so you get the car experience, but on a better device (most headunits are garbage).
Feel free to pm me for help getting it working!
Well the bevel gear and rear axle sinks just require a 13mm hex. Are u after a engine oil filter wrench? It requires a special one, a 36mm. Something like this, https://www.amazon.com/ARES-Vanadium-Manganese-Phosphate-Corrosion/dp/B07198KQL7/ref=mp_s_a_1_10_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=36mm+wrench&qid=1600478999&sr=8-10-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUEyWlZESElNUDNQSkFUJmVuY3J5cHR...

Good headunit: https://www.amazon.com/Pioneer-AVH-2400NEX-Receptor-pantalla-Bluetooth/dp/B07D3N92VV/ (lots of cheaper options)
I got those ones off of Amazon for cheap. Not Thule quality but they get the job done.
The window scrapers are EASY, just go slow and be patient. I think I got mine from FCP and they came as an uncut strip of rubber scraper with a plastic folding tool that's great for gently prying the metal holders up off the pinch weld (i dont think Dave's scrapers dont come with one, but they're a few bucks on amazon). Get a spray bottle of soapy water to help slide the old ones out (which will be rotted into the metal piece) and sliding the new ones in. The most annoying part is when your fingers are all soapy and the rubber just wont slide, but hey: life is hard and that rubber will slide eventually.
I bought this one off Amazon. it came with the stickers, hardware etc. was kinda surprised it came with all that it did to be honest. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EVNZKYC/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_i_hfinEbF5M8649
These work. Typically the bearing and hub are separate. first ive seen that came pre assembled that wasnt a bolt in
https://www.amazon.com/Bearing-Driver-Passenger-Hyundai-Elantra/dp/B0747SPTYN
Yes you definitely need to press it in with the outer race. Pressing with the hub will ruin the bearing.
About an hour. I used the kit with the drill attachment for the polishing compound so that went pretty quickly. Here is what I bought https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MCVRJGM/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
