Happy Saturday, Veni! I'm so happy to hear you're getting out and enjoying time with friends and are on a good path. You deserve all the good things! :)
I think it's great that you're coming up with questions regarding the why of your desire to open the relationship. Something I'm curious about -- have you ever wanted an open relationship with a partner prior to your husband? I think for some, monogamy is simply too limiting and too narrow.
I have spoken to a number of men and women about this, but shockingly, more women seem to find the idea of open relationships more appealing than men. Perhaps I'll make a post about this, because you're far from alone in these thoughts and desires and it may help you.
I really think you should check out the book, The Ethical Slut. It may help you understand your why more and feel less alone in your thoughts and desires. I would also be happy to suggest other books for you as well, if you're interested :)
I don't log my food...yet. I've been losing 10-12lbs a month for the past 3 months by eyeballing and guestimating. I hate having to count, measure, and weigh my food, but I know that the closer I get to goal, the harder it will be to continue progressing if I don't. I've been looking at an app called NOOM. The app is free, which supposedly, you can still use to log food and exercise even if you don't purchase the personal coaching. I haven't checked it out personally because I'm procrastinating until I absolutely have to, but all the reviews I've read about it have been pretty positive. I may even purchase the coaching once I finally rejoin the working world.
I am a big fan of Cron-o-meter. The website is free, and I think the app was less than $5 -- there is a fee based version of the website, but I don't think it's needed.
Cron-o-meter lets you set macro goals - as well as micro goals, you can factor in activities - i have it connected to my garmin account so it auto-populates. If you have specific functionality you're looking for, i can try to answer questions.
In the past, I have also used LoseIt! - but too many ads, and prompts to bump up to the paid version.
This guy is my bible for all things on the smoker. He has never steered me wrong. I use his technique and rub recipe and just leave the ribs on High Smoke for about 3 hours. I usually make two racks, and leave one with just the rub and an hour or so before they're ready I'll brush the other with Trader's Joe's Sriracha Garlic BBQ sauce (OMG it's good). But my taste for ribs is relatively low on the sticky sweetness, so I dial the sugar way back from a lot of ribs I've tried out in the wild.
As for pellets, I just use these guys from Amazon. I know some folks get worked up about what wood to use but I've carefully avoided training my taste buds to be able to notice the difference so I have no strong opinion.
Lump charcoal. I cook on grill several times a week usually.
The briquettes always had a chemical flavor. Lump charcoal is different. I smoke a lot of meat with real wood I cut myself. Fruit woods put a sweet smoke on. Hickory is stronger. Mesquite can be bitter if you do it too long. Especially reheated like on ribs. I know there are no additives. The lump charcoal tastes so good. You can throw some chunks of dry wood on it too for whatever flavor you want.
I light it with a little hand held torch. The Coleman’s bottles you just screw the torch part on.
Something like this. At Walmart here you can buy two of the propane bottles for like 7 dollars. Start it with that. No chemical smell like the lighter fluid stuff. The hard wood charcoal will spark at you with the torch. It is not that bad. But it will. 😂 only takes about a minute or so.
To get ideas, look at the book Women's Health Big Book of Exercises It has a nice variety of exercises for nearly all muscle groups plus pictures to demonstrate (yes, there's also a men's version)
I tack my exercises using the app Simple Workout Log It's free on the Google Play Store but I don't know if they have a version for iPhones. It's really easy to use.
/u/throwawayso30 do you or anyone else have any suggestions for a female newbie? Thanks :)
Whatever program you use, I highly recommend the website simple workout log They have an app from the Google play store and are working on one for iPhones.
It is really easy to use and track your workouts. Check it out.
Here's the link to Amazon where I purchased them. They are $10 for three bands. It's a fairly popular item and is highly rated.
Don't worry about the diets it more about a lifestyle change you can adjust to and turn it into a daily routine. If you are dieting we are setting ourselves up for failure. It about understanding the fundamentals of and nutrients of foods and how they work with our bodies. I am a health and life coach and I have recorded an in-depth break down of foods and how they help our bodies and what to avoid period. It won't cost you anything and it is free to listen to to
For keeping track of my food habits, I use Fooducate.
For tracking steps taken, distance covered or calories burned, I use ActivityTracker.
Dance Dance Revolution. (That's the original game name) The program I use is actually stepmania: https://www.stepmania.com
They've actually more recently created a new version that I haven't upgraded to yet. https://projectmoon.dance
It's all FREE as well.
I love Friday because Friday is Happy Hour. And it was my spouse's turn to pick the drink, which is even better. He picked something called Zelli's special and it's fantastic. Now I'm out here on the porch sipping my drink with the dog and my spouse enjoying the fall weather.
We instituted Happy Hour during the pandemic when I started drinking a lemon drop every Friday. My spouse started having one too and then we decided to branch out. We stocked our cabinet based on recommendations from this book.
It's so much fun.
After dinner, we'll watch a movie with the kiddo. I think it's his turn to pick. It will probably involve Kaiju.
Otherwise, I'm not sure what's on the agenda for the rest of the weekend. We might go to the zoo. We'll probably hit the farmer's market and the local record stores (we finally got our speakers and turntable set up) and build up our vinyl collection, now that we are officially pretentious, hipster audiophiles. The kiddo requested pumpkin bread, so I'll probably bake too.
One thing I am definitely going to do this weekend is set some strength training goals. I am pretty good about power walking every day (but that is mostly for the endorphins I need to manage my anxiety) and doing regular yoga. But ugh, strength training is the worst. I can't go back to the gym (the pandemic reignited all my old germ phobias) so I'm going to hit up some body weight programs. I was doing YAYOG for a while and I might do that one again. We'll see. I'm going to start with a modest goal and build it into a habit.
Absolutely!
One thing I added into my skincare routine is Aztec healing clay. It has been hugely helpful in attaining a more glowing face. I just use it once a week, sometimes once every two weeks, with one tablespoon of the clay and one tablespoon of apple cider vinegar. Rinse with warm water.
I don't use this one, but my sister does. She loves it. She has noticed a marked difference in her skin after using this vitamin C serum, also from Image Skincare.
Lol it’s so basic but I ordered something similar to this off amazon and I use them for tons of things - chores too!
if you’ve never read Home Comforts, it is an absolute treasure. Gives me so much confidence and joy with all kinds of home tasks. Which does not come naturally, I assure you.
For weights, I use "Simple Workout Log". I LOVE it for keeping track of my weight workouts! As the name implies, it is very easy to use. You just enter the name of the exercise and add reps and the weights as you complete them. You can easily change the number of reps or the weight during the training session. When you are done and want to move on tot he next exercise, just hit the button. It also has a timer and it is easy to edit if you make a mistake. It has built-in exercises but it is very easy to add ones.
It is free but is only available on the Google Play store They have been saying for a while that it will "be available for iOS soon" but... I highly recommend giving it a try.
I'm using this app On the advanced level, you do 5-7 different types of planks each day and as the days increase, the time increase. Examples of planks are normal, forearm, wide arm reverse, side, and one leg versions of some of these. Then, it ends with stretches. It has over 5 million downloads and a 4.9 rating. Check it out
I think the app that you showed is only available for iPhone users. It's not available for those of us who use advanced technology 🤣🤣
BTW, that guy in the pic has awful form - his butt is too high!
I've been using these for about three months and really enjoy them: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CGCD7JH/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_XdUmFbT4PAQSV
I'll learn you that the included wraps are terrible, but I prefer the straight wood anyway. If you want a wrap, I suggest a tennis racket wrap.
My new bra which isn't even a sports bra. It's a Claudette Darling underwire nonpadded. It fits almost perfectly and when I run in it, nothing moves!
I recommend you read Gary Taubes's latest book. 'The Case Against Sugar." It's very damning. Sugar is almost certainly the cause of the obesity epidemic.
