This is a good question.
I think it depends on what we're trying to explain.
When it comes to describing the anguish and suffering, I really don't think there's a way to do this. I have tried but nothing compares to the actual experience. Most people cannot understand, and will never understand, the limitless suffering in their lifetime. Hence they have nothing to compare it against. And honestly, when we tell someone what it's like and they immediately compare it to a "really bad headache" they had "8 years ago". Uhm, no. It's just more frustrating than it's worth.
There is the medical aspect. And so it's hard to explain to someone how a prescribed medication (in my case) can do this, and people haven't even harder time understanding that you just cannot take away the medication and then heal overnight. The idea that sudden absence of the poison is somehow also harmful is incomprehensible. It's also impossible to explain how so many doctors are completely ignorant about this.
What I did was try to capture all that at one fell swoop and provide them with Baylissa Frederick's book: Recovery and Renewal.
This of course, only works for a limited of people who are willing to read. I got lucky and bought this for everybody in my family. It helped enormously. Sometimes I would provide people with The Benzo Crisis Lisa Ling documentary..
I had alot of leg pain and started taking magnesium 100mg a night. it seems to help.
No. No more drugs. If you want to read a good book on psychotropic medications read anatomy of an epidemic. I was blown away to see that these drugs do absolutely nothing but harm people. We've all bought into this idea that somehow there's better living through pharmaceuticals. Nope.
Your SO should listen to this podcast Benzodiazepine Awareness with Geraldine Burns
It’s been a big comfort to me, and my family has listened, and they understand so much more now.

Also this thing helps mask the vibrations like, 100%. I have two sets of rechargable AA's and swap em out every couple days. Stuck it into my hug pillow when I sleep.

Things I wish I knew: (Klonopin) Go slow could take 1 year to get off .5
Drink water 3 to 4 times a day
Supplements could turn your taper to other symptoms you don't want. try one for a while if you must and document
Mediation kinda grey area..I say try the lying down meditation for 6 weeks then if it doesn't work then it was 30 minutes out of your day. I find a lunch break is the best time.
Sleep hygiene get into a pattern of going to bed every night if possible. Listen to do soft music and just wind down. Jumping in the bed and forcing your self to sleep isn't going to work. In the beginning you might need a sleep aid https://www.amazon.com/HealthA2Z-Diphenhydramine-Softgels-Supports-Habit-Forming/dp/B0848WCZFM
Exercise you don't have to knock yourself out with 5 miles a day. But just walking one mile a day can help.
Stay away from forums until you need some help. You start reading others experiences that don't tell the whole story (how they got there and thier lifestyle) you could get spooked.
Off the wall tip: Some people complain they don't dream anymore. Get some binaural sleep beats from https://www.binauralbeatsmeditation.com/ I don't trust the YouTube ones who knows how people are recording those. Anyway you will get some deep sleep but weird dreams.
Try a magnesium supplement once in morning, once in the afternoon and one at night
Stay out of bed and light exercise during the day. I went this this same exact thing and it does come and go
Also look into Wim Hof Method. It’s been a complete life saver for me

Take 4 of these a day. No anxiety. You’re welcome.
P.S. I’m interested in you following up in 2-3 weeks if you get these and letting me know how it worked out for you. I don’t think I’ve had a single person come back to me and say it didn’t help with their anxiety/stress at least a little bit. Definitely takes the edge off, if nothing else.
Doctors love antidepressants.
They love the money they make from prescribing them.
If you want to read an amazing book on the failure of these medications to produce results then check out Anatomy of an Epidemic.
This book also includes a section on benzodiazepines.
I'm tapering while doing an antidepressant. You might be able to cut at a higher rate than this video it's all about your body telling you the pace at which to go at. cutting pills scale I used throughout my taper
Don't do it. It's evil shit. I'd rather have a full blown panic attack than go through what I'm going through now. If you start experience withdrawal symptoms, ween yourself off slowly and find a doc who's cool with that stuff.
Some SSRI antidepressants have a period where there's some bad anxiety and that might be what you're epxeriencing. IT usually passes. I dunno if that's what's going on cuz I'm not your doc. Hopefully your seeing a good psychicatrist. If not, get one. I was on a very low does of zoloft in college and it really helped me out. But we're all differet.
If you gotta take something to calm you down, benedryl is ok. Theanine Serene is a good product: https://www.amazon.com/SOURCE-NATURALS-Serene-Science-Theanine/dp/B000GFJJG0/ref=sr_1_2_mod_primary_new?crid=301QUUT75X0IQ&keywords=theanine+serene&qid=1664406305&qu=eyJxc2MiOiIyLjMzIiwicXNhIjoiMS44NCIsInFzcCI6IjEuODAifQ%3D%3D&s=dmusic&sbo=RZvfv%2F%2FHxDF%2BO5021pAnSA%3D%3D&sprefix=theanine+serene%2Cdigital-music%2C132&sr=1-2

Working out ad meditating do far more for you than any benzo ever could do. I was highly resistant to both. But I finally gave in and decided to do them for a couple months. You might as well since that's how long it takes for regular psych meds to kick in. I know it's advice that's so common people ignore it BUT IT REALLY WORKS.
OK cool. Yeah I've mostly stopped drinking . I feel so much better without alcohol that I'm looking forward to yet another excuse to not drink.
I found a supplement on Amazon that I used this last week (anticipating my Klonopin would give me worse withdrawals). Qunol Sleep Support. I'm curious about your opinion on using these. I understand I need to steer clear of using GABA supplement more than a couple times per week... But do you know of anything else in here that I need to watch for?
Was one of the worst parts of withdrawl for me. I used lots of magnesium (magnesium lysinate glycinate chelate worked the best) and cyclobenzaptine or methocarbomol at night as a muscle relaxer. What helped the best though was getting massages twice a week, stretching shoulders + neck multiple times a day and using one of this triggerpoint sticks to relieve tension from knots. https://www.amazon.com/Trigger-Point-Acucurve-Cane-Massage/dp/B07R4RWWD1/ref=mp_s_a_1_15?keywords=triggerpoint&qid=1658461355&sr=8-15 Wish you the best shit is tough but you will make it
Have you read "Benzo Free -The world of anti-anxiety drugs and the reality of Withdrawal" by D E Foster? Such a helpful book! Here is what he says on what are called "intrusive memories":
"Another very uncomfortable cognitive side effect can be intrusive memories. These can be very traumatic events from someone's past or even a vivid memory of another person they haven't seen or thought about for years. One theory is that this is linked to dreaming. Since benzos affect REM sleep and often prevent dreaming during their use, this could be a sign of healing, and that normal dreaming is starting to return."
his book is on amazon.
coupon for 3$ off and checks blood pressure and heart rate not oxygen i only got the oximeter for my heart rate you can keep a notebook to write everything down option 2
omg i had to go through a text sending to my mom because it’s two step authenticity and took forever buddy there’s a flash deal it’s half off girl!!!
Buy this then half and half again, that's exactly what I'm doing with my 10mgs
If you're in the US, I strongly recommend using an aluminum pill splitter. I really like this one from Amazon... EqualSplit.
Here's a video of how to cut 1/4s from 1/2 scored tablets: Perfect 1/2 and 1/4s
What pills are you trying to cut?
I found that the common drug-store pill cutters are garbage. When I started tapering I went through four or five of these, each time getting maybe one decent pill cut before the blades were making crumbs out of my tablets. But all my problems were solved when I bought an aluminum pill splitter; this tool has become the back-bone of my liquid-tablet hybrid taper.
There's a few brands of aluminum pill splitters for sale in the US on Amazon (maybe elsewhere). I like the EqualSplit, it's $20 but they appear to be out of stock ATM. There's also the EquaDose which I've never used, is about $30 but it is in stock right now.
The aluminum splitters I've used are AMAZING. I've used them to split both scored and unscored clonazepam tablets, and I can cut very accurate 1/4 tablets with absolutely minimal crumbs. Plus the blades NEVER seem to go dull (they don't touch)... it's been several hundred tablets by now and I only started using my second splitter because I have two different tablets now and I store them in separate splitters.
I hope this helps!
Everyone else has given good advice; the only caveat I'd give to what they said is to vape/dab CBD rather than metabolize or incinerate CBD if you can.
But adding another perspective, a lot of what you describe, imho, is trauma release.
A lot of misinterpreted signals from before and during benzo usage will store up in your body, then try to rush out all at once. Your knee-jerk response to move is actually a helpful thing. Movement, especially in a purposeful way prompted by your instinctive urges, will help accelerate the release of interrupted movements in the past.
Waking the Tiger talks a lot about what you're going through, which is related to but separate from benzo withdrawal.
https://www.audible.com/pd/Waking-the-Tiger-Audiobook/B01LWMWKG1
The narrator makes you want to hang yourself, but the information is very helpful. I listen to it sped up, like 1.20x at least. That book, plus the Ashton Manual, ought to be recommended together to everyone.
Also buy yourself a "Kitchen safe"https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N3VVMAB/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_i_8PHHXDQVKBTF49FNPS7E?psc=1 It will allow you to keep you from redosing. It's a timed lock container with no override code. Only way in is to break it.
Pharmacy Intern and fellow researcher here.
I know that what I am about to say is a bit of tangent to your OP findings but it may provide a fresh perspective on your experiences.
The drug cocktail you were/are on may not be the best solution. Stimulants prescribed for ADHD with gabanergics prescribed for anxiety is common (due to-be a physicians go to treatment) but often can be treated much more effectively with other approaches.
Stimulants can increase anxiety and induce depression. My best advice is to find other treatments for your ADHD which may decrease the need for klonopin and other gabanergic modulators.
I personally know a friend who has struggled with add/adhd who later had severe depression and this led to a cascading effect of ssri's and anxiety problems. He began treating his attention disorder with GUANFACINE. His adhd symptoms rapidly improved. His depression has begun to face away. He is now tapering an SSRI with great success.
YMMV but do your own research. Feel free to ask me questions. Lastly, I am glad your experience with withdrawal went well. Keep in my mind that the clonazepam has a half-life between 30-40hrs. There was still plenty of clonezapam in your system for the first few days which may significantly impacted your not-so-bad experience.
I don't know if you've ever read anything about liquid tapering, but I created a guide for making a liquid suspension so you can make smaller, more precise cuts. I'm tapering for the second time (doctor put me back on it). I included pictures as well. Its on my blog... the page address is https://wordpress.com/read/blogs/186413261/posts/103
No, the first time I took the SSRI (Celexa) i was able to make it through the side effects. It made me feel drunk though and caused problems at work (Anger issues, problems with authority), the anxiety wasnt really any better either. I added medical MJ and that helped my anxiety immensely. I thought i could quit the SSRI, but the anxiety came back bad after a few months and from there it was multiple panic attacks a week, in and out of the ER. I tried celexa again and it made everything so much worse. I couldnt get through it. I was ready to take a leave of absence from work before i finally signed up for the IOP. it was a LOT. it was 6 hours of therapy a week. Maybe your not that bad, but it about to cost my career put things in perspective. It helped me way more than the medications ever could and i was largely anxiety free until they started fiddling with my medications again. Im on 1 mg abilify and 5mg valium atm tapering down. The tools i learned from the program were essential for helping me here though. I now know the anxiety is temporary and if the worst case thing happens instead of reaching for a pill i can reach for an icepack and it will stop.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07HB6HJYZ/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 is an example. You can also use a bag of frozen veggies or something from the fridge, i just like having an icepack in my car or work desk, ect.
Holy shit, I'm old but listen here is one of the first cognitive therapy pop psychology books ever published -- it focuses on helping you find a sexy lady by "eliminating the negative thinking and low self-esteem that causes loneliness and shyness."

"If you would like to use the app but truly cannot afford it, please email us at [email protected] so that we can give you a free account."
Also i've gathered from many discussions about mindfulness/meditation apps that the voice/tone/accent etc of the speaker/teacher tends to be rather important on a per-user basis wrt impression of how accessible it seems and factors into long-term engagement, so I would encourage sampling your options and finding what suits your particular needs.
On that note, another great option is the "Smiling Mind" app - they have a 21-day course for insomnia. It is also free. https://www.smilingmind.com.au/smiling-mind-app There are many others, just look around and find something you like. Good luck to all.
Skin burning is common and does go away. I recommend getting some ice bags like these: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074DRJKDF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_2PAXSV5W87RF8X60SGKB
Then fill them partially with water and partially with rubbing alcohol. They become a slushy consistency in the freezer and feel so good on burning skin.
OK, I get that. My point is, you're being prescribed this for a reason, not because you're just one of the guys buying benzos on the black market to get high. What I think about the side-effect argument is that as long as you are medically warranted in taking it, then you need not worry about the dependence issue. It sounds like going off is causing more side effects than being on it. If you're serious about going off, why not try just cutting out a small fragment of a tablet per day? Like 0.10mg or the like to start, just cut off a small part or grind it off with a nail file. Since you're dealing with 1mg tabs, you might want to get a cheap jewelry scale off amazon so you can weigh the tabs correctly. And then try reducing by 0.10mg steps, and give yourself literally months between steps. Since the half life is so long, you'll need to run the steps really long between steps on the way down.

I found this to be the best. But you definitely want to liquid taper. If you don’t know how to do that let me know and I’ll send you directions when I’m back home
Completely agree. And doctors don't know shit about antidepressants either. Really good book on this is Anatomy of an Epidemic by Robert Whittaker.
Definitely worth a read.
That chart indicates .065 grams as being .25 mg of alprazolam. The .125 mg alprazolam supposedly weighs .033 grams. I have the Smart Weigh Jewelry scale from Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00ESHDGOI/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1. I can continue to reduce the weight of the pill, I just wanted to be able to figure out the equivalent amount of alprazolam remaining.
I've tried the teas, valerian root, lemon balm and such. My doctor prescribed me hydroxyzine which is non habit forming but has the effects of helping allergies, sleepyness and works on anxiety. I take 15mg if I wake up at around midnight or 2am to get back to sleep. I've heard this works also not habit forming. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0848WCZFM
I used the ashton manual method. I was originally on klonopin and switched to valium using the manual, and then followed her instructions to get down to zero slowly.
For sleep I used benadryl and still do. 50mg from amazon
I bought this one: Smart Weigh GEM20 High Precision Digital Milligram Jewelry Scale, 20 x 0.001 Gram, Reloading, Jewelry and Gems Scale, Calibration Weights and Tweezers Included https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00ESHDGOI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_ZKVVYYEN5SHP62C1GZP8?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I followed the directions to calibrate to a t, and it does come with the tray. I’m just really struggling :( . The batteries seem ok , it’s not like it’s saying it’s low or anything. I may have to figure out another way. I saw something online about using a glass nail file and filing away part of the pill until it weighs ten percent less. I just tried that and it seemed more doable.
This is what I use:

It’s really the best, it’s helped a lot
Got it off Amazon, inexpensive pretty good accuracy. I thought every one of my generic .5mg clonazepam weighed .170g and most do, but some are .001 to .003 above or below weight.

This is me to a T
Was on 1mg klonopin for 5ish years
I’ll be 6 months off on the 20th and what finally helped is taking a magnesium supplement twice a day
Once in the morning and once at night
Almost completely eliminated that weak heart feeling
It stil races if I do exercise and stuff but i can actually take a pee without feeling my heart shake my body

Ive been taking gaba for anxiety. Straightens me out. I do about 500mg in a cup of water once or twice a day.. Im not affiliated with the link below. Its not as powerful as xanax but damn it noticeably helps me and a lot of others. Also .25 mg wouldnt addict you if u took it like once every other week for a year. But why screw with it? Id rather do gaba :p check out the reviews on amazon.

yes. insomnia for one & mainly bad dreams, "night terrors", unwanted sleep movement (warn your partner), irritability (you're brain wants it), and super believable yet unbelievable anxieties, if you know what I mean. The most unlikely thing is actually going to happen! impending doom.
Well, those are a few things to look forward to. But I think, you'd be over it in a matter of days. But if you took it for insomnia, you'll be awake. I have luck with three 4 mg tablets of Chlorpheniramine (they actually make a 12 mg pill so..) anyhow about an hour and a half (depending on how full my stomach is) I'll have a feeling that life would be better if I were laying in my bed. Before I know it, the alarm clock goes off.
Sure thing. They were these hemp gummies from amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Supreme-Gummies-New-Age-Naturals/dp/B07PGX5NJC/ref=sr_1_11?crid=1XTKRN2TOAEEF&keywords=new+age+hemp+gummies&qid=1574012521&sprefix=new+age%2Caps%2C148&sr=8-11
Lol...no...its Magnesium potasium powder they sell at every CVS or Walgreens or whatever corner drug store you shop at. Or Amazon for that matter.

That's 5mg - 20mg (avg 10mg) of diazepam equivalent a month. I wouldn't really call it a small dose per-se, its more of a medium dose.
Physical / mental withdrawal symptoms can occur at 2mg diazepam equivalent (just under 0.25mg alprazolam/Xanax) after just 4 weeks.
As such I would first switch to a long acting benzodiazepine such as diazepam or clonazepam. Then taper.
Week | Diazepam (mg) |
---|---|
Week 1 | 10mg |
Week 2 | 9mg |
Week 3 | 8mg |
Week 4 | 7mg |
Week 5 | 6mg |
Week 6 | 5mg |
Week 7 | 4mg |
Week 8 | 3mg |
Week 9 | 2mg |
Week 10 | 1mg |

As I replied to you in the other post, I very much agree on your thoughts on the gem-20. Found it too inconsistent. Not good. I recommend trying this one https://www.amazon.com/Fuzion-Milligram-Portable-Reloading-Batteries/dp/B07TBJBFRK/ref=mp_s_a_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=milligram+scale&qid=1600461483&sr=8-8 as I had more consistent results. Do not use the plate it comes with at all. Instead put the calibration weight in the center and calibrate each time, keep the calibration weight on the plate while weighting and put the pill on top of the calibration weight multiple times to get a good reading. Should work better than the gem, at least it worked better for me. I found this particular design to be better than GEM for me
I have the diclazepam in a liquid solution -- 1 mg is equal to about .25 ml. When I tapered from my antidepressant though I used this scale and it worked very well: https://smile.amazon.com/American-Weigh-GEMINI-20-Portable-MilliGram/dp/B0012TDNAM
It sounds to me like you have been significantly impacted by this medication and that you'd rather stop. If I am correct in that and I would say that the best way to go about this is to consult the Ashton manual.
I'm going through this right now myself. I was on 1 mg of Klonopin for 20 years. Now I am down to 9 mg of Valium, from a starting dose of 20. I'm not going to lie - it has been hell. From what I gather there is no easy way to come off of benzos. There are rare few people that don't have withdrawal effects, super rare. For the most part though people have withdrawal symptoms that are unpleasant. Your case is not abnormal.
Here's the Ashton Manuel if you would like to read through it and ask any questions. Some folks on here are very knowledgeable and understand the manual very well.

I actually have used melatonin in many forms and doses. There was some sort of research about the effective dose of melatonin being far lass than what is normally sold..
I take this Sundown Melatonin 300 mcg, 120 Tablets (Packaging May Vary) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000GG2I9O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_k1i3DbF5Q60V9
Not sure other people’s experiences but this has worked just as good if not more than any quick dissolve, gummy, liquid melatonin fat higher doses
I also have used unisom that works awesome as wlel
Yeah, there is evidence that gut bacteria can affect mood. I feel like when I got my gut right, it helped my mood a lot. Maybe just because I wasn't in pain so much or maybe because I had beneficial bacteria, I don't know. I don't think you can do irreversible damage to your gut bacteria. Maybe you're not taking the right probiotic for you. There are a lot of different types of gut bacteria. It also might not be the bacteria making you sick, it could be some other additive in the pill. I think this is really more likely. Probiotics don't act that quickly. And there can be binding agents in some medication that can exacerbate irritable bowel syndrome. Take a look at the label and do some googling on what you find.
But for my mood, I did some research on which bacteria to get and found that (I think) L. rhamnosus and L. reuteri might produce GABA, so I take them daily. I take a combination of Culturelle (which has a good mix) and L. reuteri on it's own: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000O3GCSW/ref=sr_ph_1_a_it?ie=UTF8&qid=1492481250&sr=sr-1&keywords=reuteri
I also got a SIBO test and found that I had bacterial overgrowth in my small intestine. I took a specific antibiotic that only works in the small intestine (where you're not supposed to have bacteria) and leaves the rest of the gut alone. Once I did that, my gut health really shot up a notch.
Keep trying. Keep doing research. You're on the right track.
Horrible. Insomnia. Benedrayl was my friend. Winded up taking this:http://www.amazon.com/SECURUS-Supplement-Non-Addictive-Alternative-GUARANTEE/dp/B00KQ5Q0F8/ref=pd_bia_nav_t_1?ie=UTF8&refRID=08G50C9R4YS6MBBJCH96
