I love it, but I'm a big squad-based tactics game fan. It's definitely not an RPG, so there's no speech skill but the missions are good fun. 80% of the time, it feels like Fallout, but they don't perfectly match the lore from F1 and F2.
I highly recommend getting the Tactics Redux mod that SneakyPhil posted. It fixes some of the triggers in game that never previously appeared, adds some changes to weapons so that more types within a category are viable. In addition, I'd suggest getting the Equilibrium mod (https://www.moddb.com/mods/balancedux) that rebalances some of the weapon damage, etc that Redux changes.
By the way, you say you keep hearing how awful it is: I know there are some people that don't like it, but are you sure you aren't confusing it with Fallout: Brotherhood of Steel? That is a truly awful game and universally loathed. FOT has it's critics, but a lot of people like it.
Found it, it's called ExaGear:

Be warned, like all emulators, this can be buggy and downright unusable at times. I used it on my Huawei Media pad and it works fine, but YMMV.
Streaming has been an extremely enjoyable and rewarding hobby for me for quite some time now. I've got this lovely bunch of regulars that truly boost my morale, so why not come join them in my blind playthrough?

Hello,
Everything works fine for me. Here is how i did it: 1. Download and install Fallout unofficial patch: http://www.nma-fallout.com/resources/fallout-2-restoration-project-unofficial-expansion-windows-installer.10 2. Download latest version of Sfall at: https://sourceforge.net/projects/sfall 3. When extracting files from sfall only replace ddraw.dll. Keep old ddraw.ini.
Let me know if it works ;)
Game has a turn based combat. Meaning you attack and then wait for your opponents to attack. You do the attacking or anything with action points while you're in combat. You can see how much action points a weapon spends by looking at the bottom middle of your screen. For example in this screenshot it says AP 6 which means that gun will spend 6 action points if you attack with it. On top of it you will see little green dots. Those are your action points. Have fun!
Well, that's kinda embarrassing -_-

I have an idea though. Open the Start menu, scroll down the installed program list until you run across "Fallout [GOG.com]".

Open this folder, and click on high resolution config. In the little cute window that pops up set the settings as follows:

Graphics mode: Basic
Colors: 32 bit
Refresh Rate: 60 (you must manually designate this)
Set the resolution to your monitor's native
Click the button to enable the hires patch, an admin window may ask for permission.

Now lets try launching...
It's not shit. Here, OP, use this on Fallout 1, it's basically a cut content restoration / bug fix patch for the game. It's how I personally played it for the first time, and any major changes to the game can be optionally installed if you want to experience the core game as it was originally intended.
The fact a program is "native" doesn't make it use less computer resources.
And even if we're arguing about performance, did you even bother looking up statistics? According to this website, Windows Defender is literally on the first place in performance impact. Check facts before you start talking.
As someone else pointed out, common sense is your best protection. But the whole thread should stop dismissing Avast, because it might very well be the best free antivirus available.
Are you familiar with OpenMW? It's a fan-made open source engine for Morrowind. It's a new engine that reads the original Morrowind data files to run the game. As far as I'm aware they have not run into legal issues.
I'm not sure what approach you're taking, but something in that vein shouldn't have legal troubles.
No idea why this happened. I can't see anything that would disable the cathedral entrance after blowing up mariposa. Maybe something got borked, because you used a savegame editor?
Anyways, I have teleported you to the cathedral entrance.
Have you patched the game yet?
I think this is an issue some had with Windows 7, and I think some of it has to do with the default location of the installed media being somewhere that executable is not looking.
Guys on Youtube there are some gameplays where you can watch the game mechanics of this mod (y) . This is the MODDB link of The mod: https://www.moddb.com/mods/thesum
There’s 3 ways to do it, as far as I know.

You might want to look at THIS SITE.
If I understand it correctly you need the MsDos version of Fallout 1 (install.exe as opposed to setup.exe for windows version) so that you can have sound. I'm not too familiar with this (although I would love to be able to play F1 on iPad) so you will probably be better off looking through the site.
Taking suboptimal builds is one way to add challenge, but it's far from the most interesting. Instead of gimping my character, I've found it far more satisfying to make the game difficult.
Your build has 10 charisma, no guns, and no companions. That's just going to be a diplomat run, which isn't anything we haven't done before.
Instead of those kinds of limitations, I've been adding difficulty to the world. Play on Hard/Rough, install the EcCo mod. Makes combat more challenging, the economy less giving, and the enemies drop less equipment.
What you get is a brutal run where mundane fights become potential run enders, you're constantly broke so finding caps and gear is legitimately exciting, and part of the challenge is in min-maxing your character with purpose and intention to survive an impossibly difficult wasteland.
I dunno. I understand the allure of playing a gimped character, I feel like the novelty wears off incredibly quickly.
Many years back, I bought the game at Target. I don't know if they would have it or the collectors edition. I would check online. Here's a copy on Amazon:
