> What it lacked most was a story
I strongly suggest you read this if you think Demon's lacked story. I personally think it's even more interesting than Dark Souls.
check out the story and lore analysis by guardian owl on gamefaqs: http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps3/954345-demons-souls/faqs/62697
imho this is by far the most comprehensive, serious and thorough source that you will find. it amazes me how much work must have gone into it. it is a very long read though, so be warned.
This faq on Gamefaqs offers a fairly comprehensive analysis of the story:
http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps3/954345-demons-souls/faqs/62697
I don't agree with everything there, but it's definitely a good read if you like lore. Some of the theories are pretty interesting.
What other people have been saying in here works (to play offline, in soul form, and kill all bosses). However it robs you of the online aspect of the game.
Another way is to push the world to Pure Black World Tendency first, and then flip it to Pure White. I think it's a better way to go, but unfortunately a lot of people seem to find this method confusing and just go offline.
Anyway I'll just leave this here if you're interested.
It runs wonderfully on emulator, allows you to play at 60fps and above and you have access to a few mods and no region locked online. Also no virus, just make sure you get it from the official website https://rpcs3.net/download
Demon's souls should not be wasted. Every Demon's soul can be made into a better weapon/spell than the souls it will give you do.
That should help.
So I've been looking for this myself the past couple of days. I commented below about the constant hiss in all the Demon's Souls videos and thought about giving up, but then I remembered all the bells in Bloodborne and compared their tones. Turns out one of the bell lady's chimes is the same (or nearly identical) sample as the Mindflayers from Demon's Souls! So I recorded it myself and got a few samples. They all had some background noise of sorts, but not as bad as the hiss was and I managed to use Audacity to clean it up. I think it sounds pretty good!
Enjoy!
I'll admit that I've only just become aware of this project and the guy heading it. However, the fact that we have DeS semi-playable, on a system notoriously difficult to emulate, is testament enough to his work ethic. If you want further proof a read of their latest blog post should show you the kind of dedication and technical knowledge they must have to make this happen. I also don't think we should be comparing this against other emulators when 7th gen is relatively uncharted territory.
It's not as if I'm asking people to donate their life savings either, a few bucks here and there and we could potentially see a near-native emulation (which I would like as much as you, by the way) a few weeks, months, or even years earlier.
If you want to buy Demon's Souls, now's the time. You can order it at Amazon for $9,99 https://www.amazon.com/Demons-Souls-PS3-Digital-Code/dp/B00JAPIZDA/ref=as_li_ss_tl?s=videogames-download&ie=UTF8&qid=1488855525&sr=1-59&refinements=p_8%3A2229020011%2Cp_n_feature_seven_browse-bin%3A7990459011&linkCode=sl1&t...
Beat the game a few times legit before you start duping.
Don't sweat world tendency or what order you play the worlds in.
What's a good build? Your third or fourth one. Here's some ideas: http://www.gamefaqs.com/ps3/954345-demons-souls/faqs/59592
I know this is an old post, but others may stumble upon it. I found that flash drives must be in Fat32 with the MBR partition scheme in order to work. Windows does not allow you to format with MBR by default. Rufus - however - supports this. https://rufus.ie/en/
I recently discovered that this artist, Ilya Shebunov, has created a Patreon profile but it is not having a huge succes (read “not having succes at all”).I follow him because of his works inspired by an Italian Souls-related YouTube channel (Sabaku no Maiku), and in my opinion his watercolor paintings deserve more love than they are receiving right now.
Here it is his works gallery on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/Ilyashebunovarts/photos_stream
And here it is his Patreon profile: https://www.patreon.com/ilyashebunov?ty=c
Disclosure: I already am a patron of him as much as of Sabaku no Maiku, you can easily find me in his Patrons list (we are two, not that hard :P).
They said it will be backwards compatible with the PS4 because it will share the same architecture as the PS4. So for it to be backwards compatible to the PS3 as well, I would imagine PS4->PS3 would also be capable but it isnt.
Pi-hole is not specific to Raspberry Pi—it's just named that way because it takes minimal computing resources to run it, so a Raspberry Pi is a good way to keep it running all the time for folks who don't already have an always-on computer in their home.
It's pretty easy to install Pi-hole itself and the instructions on the Pi-hole website should be sufficient for that.
As far as setting up a custom DNS entry for the Demon's Souls server, what you do for that involves one of the components that is installed as part of Pi-hole called dnsmasq. dnsmasq is a local DNS service that will check its own list of name-to-IP mappings when a query comes in, and for anything that it doesn't already know about, forward it on to whatever DNS server you would've been using anyway. You can add custom DNS entries to it by adding text files in the directory /etc/dnsmasq.d
on the system running Pi-hole. Personally, I have it configured with a file at /etc/dnsmasq.d/20-demonssouls.conf
with the contents:
address=/c.demons-souls.com/174.58.114.198
The base name of the file is not important, other than that the files in /etc/dnsmasq.d
are loaded in alphanumeric order, if that matters for any reason. (The "20-" at the beginning of my file name is to force load order with the other files I have in that directory.) I don't remember offhand if the filename has to end in ".conf" but I'd probably stick with that form.
After you create (or modify) the file, I believe you need to restart dnsmasq, which you can do by running pihole restartdns
at the command line of the system running Pi-hole. At any time, you can run pihole status
to check whether or not the DNS service is running.
Hope this helps!
You require a legal copy of the game. The process for turning a PS3 disc into a file readable by RPCS3 is instructed by the Quickstart guide on their website: https://rpcs3.net/quickstart .
The hardware requirements for running RPCS3 are here:
They don't recommend using a laptop, and chances are yours won't run the emulator well. You might try asking in the forums there.
Nope.
RPCS3 is the most demanding emulator that relies mostly on CPU power.
Need a better CPU: https://rpcs3.net/quickstart
>Recommended Requirements
>For running playable games, playable performance
>Processor - AMD 6-core with SMT or 8-cores and up (Ryzen only)
With a Ryzen 2600 for example, I get solid 60FPS: https://i.imgur.com/bmAprvs.png
The PS3_GAME and PS3_UPDATE folders are only there if you're using the blu-ray disc data to boot the game. Since you used the pkg install they won't be there.
Here's the page for Demon's Souls on the RPCS3 wiki. I noticed that it says that the PSN versions of the game do not work, maybe try using the blu-ray version? Once you find it then follow the instructions on the RPCS3 quickstart page for blu-ray titles and it should work.
Before you buy a Blu-Ray drive, you should know that you actually need a specific type of Blu-Ray drive to rip/read PS3 discs, at least according to the RPCS3 site.
They have a list of compatible drives here: https://rpcs3.net/quickstart
I spent yesterday morning setting this up on my PC. I used RPCS3 which was quite simple to use.
I tried to get 60fps running but my computer can't handle it and I'd say I have a mid range comp with:
Intel I5-7600, CPU @ 3.50ghZ AND 16GB of RAM
If you have the same or less it might be best to go with the standard 30 fps. Its possible I messed something up along the way so take that with a pinch of salt.
I can't link to where I sourced the game on here but if you spend a couple of mins googling Demon's Souls ROM you'll find it.
Another downside with emulators is stuttering. It can be very framey at first as the game needs to download the cache as you play. Apparently this has got better with Async that the RPCS3 devs have introduced but it is definitely noticeable and does hamper the experience. Its only like this the first time you're in an area though and does improve over time.
Another problem I'm having with it is whenever a destructible object is destroyed the game lags. Perhaps this is just my experience.
Regardless, I spent all day playing it yesterday and had a blast.
The regular 30 fps should be doable even with older hardware. I used a 60 fps patch but sometimes it was only 45 fps or so, but I run on a laptop with GTX 1060 and some Laptop CPU (CPU is probably more relevant I'd guess).
You have two options (assuming you want to stay in the realm of what's 100% legal, though ethically I'd say you're free to do whatever if you've already bought the game); one is to modify your PS3 firmware and rip the game using your PS3 system, and the other is to buy one of those compatible BD drives and rip the game using your PC.
The instructions say I need to use data from a game disc or it won't work :(
"First of all, you’ll need the EU or US disc version of Demon’s Souls. Only the disc versions will currently work."
https://rpcs3.net/blog/2019/08/12/new-demons-souls-60fps-patch/
But that blog post is from April, has it changed since then?
check this out https://rpcs3.net/quickstart and /r/rpcs3 can be helpful if you run into problems or are trying to get better performance.
There are iso's out there in torrent land, some of them come with RPCS3 already configured, but I would avoid that because it's probably an old version.
You'll need a certain type of Blu-ray drive in order to dump PS3 discs to your PC if your PS3 isn't working:
> You can dump titles using your computer by using select compatible Blu-ray drives. Please note that you can only use this method if an .ird file is available online for the decryption of the disc. Not every Blu-ray drive will recognize PlayStation 3 titles due to how PlayStation 3 format discs are designed. Requirements for a Blu-Ray drive to be able to fully read PlayStation 3 discs are: Mediatek chipset and a +6 read offset.
I was reading through the guide last night and am thinking about trying this. But to answer your question they have a list of approved blu-ray drives so you can just pop the disc into your PC, and you just make an iso file that is then used by RPCS3. Check out the Quick Start guide for more details.
Yes, especially if you rip it directly from the disc. Only specific blue-ray drives can read PS3 formatted discs. The quickstart guide tells you which drives are compatible. If you have a PS3 with custom firmware installed, you can also rip your games from there.
Are you talking about the Demon's Souls game files?
They have a guide for how to get the files from a legit physical copy here: https://rpcs3.net/quickstart
If you're a dirty pirate though you can just download a copy from TPB.
Note: if you get the one from TPB, you'll need to find the file called "PS3_DISC.SFB.txt" and rename it to "PS3_DISC.SFB" or the game wont start.
This one? Yeah i'll probably get it too. I don't plan to get a ps5 until at least 4-5 years, since i got my ps4 in 2019.
It was through Mondo but it's sold out now. https://mondoshop.com/products/demons-souls-original-soundtrack-2xlp
Standard variant can still be grabbed at Amazon https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08PR4JWSF/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_85JF760ANA197RAR169B
It's called "Souls Tracker" (the app symbol is a yellow square with a ring that has a D inscribed on it). It's super simple but was really helpful for me, it saved me writing stuff down! Just realised I'd be best off linking to it https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.leleco.demonssoulstracker

Amazon link (US) to buy if you are interested and have been waiting ages for it to release in physical form like myself. Still not sure when the LP releases, but it's nice to finally get the English version of the CD.

If comes with all three and their DLC on disc. There's another version of it you can find for generally the same price with a steel case too. It will probably go on sale for Black Friday.
Have fun playing the games!
This is a third party. I explained the issue to them directly first. When they told me to just return mine, I pressed further and they wouldn’t respond. Then I went to amazon.

It's expensive but there was a Black Phantom edition of the game that only came out in the UK with customized packaging along with artwork and soundtrack. Here it is on Amazon. Demon's Souls Black Phantom Edition https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003XX4462/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_osa3vbM2TJK4C
Check ebay for used -- best I saw was $11 but with $6 shipping, you're better off getting it NEW from Amazon for $17. If you have Amazon Prime (or you have an a friend or relative that would buy it for you that does, shipping is free. If prices are the same or slightly higher for new, I still go new every time. Best of luck in your hunt.
