Quicktips
This one is easier said than done but - get out of Arlington, Grand Prarie or whatever DFW suburb you're in and go shoot some where interesting in Downtown Dallas or Fort Worth. The DFDub ain't exactly known for it's scenic beauty but some of the urban landscape could be interesting to fly around. Go down to the big post office / train station in DT FW and fly around that big ass building. Do a fly by / follow of a train (safe distance, don't freak anyone out). Just go try to find some real interesting life in the city.
When doing all of this, be thinking as an editor. Think of your flying in terms of a camera crane with a lot more flexibility, especially since you don't have FPV. It gets confusing very quickly when you don't have FPV so it tends to be easier to just fly straight out and back (in the same way you did up and down your street in this video). I totally get that and most of my shots from last year are the same. So keeping that in mind go find your self a very interesting stretch to fly down and just practice controlling the phantom and executing flawless fly bys, fly ups, fly overs, reveals from one plane to another etc.
Again I'll point to my phantom montage as an example. I'm not saying this is the gold standard or 'correct' by any means. But it will help to see exactly what I'm referring to and also most of this was shot with out an FPV or Gimbal so it gives you an idea of what is possible when you have a very limited range of motion but are attempting to capture cinematic, commercially passable shots.
Added bonus, the converted package fits perfectly with controller, batteries, and everything else I need in the Lowepro Droneguard CS300 backpack/case that was designed to fit the Parrot Bebop and is therefore being dumped for $30!
I highly recommend looking at: FAA's Model Aircraft Operations Rules and Don't Fly Here
I picked up one of the generic ebay hard backpacks that fit the phantom 3 for <$40 last week. It fits everything really well and looking at it compared to pictures of the DJI official one, I think it's actually just a rebadge. They're identical.
Amazon links to compare, the difference I see is very slight in the outer casing: DJI - https://smile.amazon.com/DJI-Phantom-Hardshell-Backpack-CP-PT-000239/dp/B00ZWY68I2/ref=sr_1_14?ie=UTF8&qid=1484579319&sr=8-14&keywords=phantom+3+backpack Off Brand - https://smile.amazon.com/Senka-Drone-Hardshell-Backpack-Phantom/dp/B01J3BT80E/ref=sr_1_8?ie=UTF8&qid=1484579319&sr=8-8&keywords=phantom+3+backpack
Absolutely. If it doesn't work with a straight cut it doesn't work. I will only use dissolves on very rare occasions and when I use them, I go with a longer dissolve that accents the transition. Check out the transition at about 1:58 to see what I mean about accenting the transition.
I just want to say that adding small wooden strips to the side of the legs thats only 1-2 cm out from the end of the legs will do just fine. it will prevent your quad from tipping over. I did it on my phantom 2.
And about the other thing, if you move the gimbal backwards so it's directly under the quad, or 1 cm forward towards the front of the craft, you wont see the legs if you turn your gopro upside down. The lens will be in the center :)
Landing gear- https://www.instagram.com/p/0z3GN-FKaL/?taken-by=granvlog Gopro upside down - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U1ms5rLTmv4
Hope it helps :)
Yeah it's something I have to keep reminding my self of all the time. I went out to the Marin headlands (an area high up on the hills right by the Golden Gate Bridge) and couldn't get a parking spot at the first turnoff near the bridge so I had to go to the next one. I tried flying out towards the bridge (this was back when I didn't have FPV) and it looked like I got really close to the bridge. So I brought the phantom back and when I watched the footage I both hadn't gotten close and also hadn't really shot anything. The space was too large to show any kind of motion because the GoPro shot is so wide (and I always use the Medium shot). So some how I managed to fly my phantom out over the bay pointed at the GG bridge and still not come back with anything worth showing. But again, I knew it and didn't put it in my reel.
I had some vibration issues not related to the problem you're seeing but thought I'd toss out a low tech solution that worked for my vibration issues just in case that's whats causing the problem you're seeing.
Softer dampers made my my vibration issues worse so I tried stiffer dampers and I also stuffed 2 earplugs between the gimble plates so it's riding on a bed of the dampers and the foam earplugs. My footage has been nice and smooth ever since.
Look in the top left pic for the green foam ear plugs - (Link)
But yeah, definitely make sure your props and the gimble are balanced and there is nothing obstructing the range of motion of the gimble it self. It does feel like a force detection issue.
FYI for those looking to Beta test then Android app, it looks like it was designed for Android Gingerbread and is buggy and crashes.
Overall IMO opinion it is marginally better than what I usually use - it has a little more info built into it. Wish it had included phone numbers to air traffic controllers for airports so I could call them directly.
I use Adobe Premiere Pro which is both costly (monthly subscription) and resource heavy. But good.
Colour correction and grading is the process of enhancing the colour quality of film or video. There are people who make their living as colourists and it's all they do. Colour correction has to do with making fine adjustments to exposure, saturation and balancing the colour of a shot to correct issues and make improvements. Grading is where it gets really fun because you can build custom looks (called Grades) for your video.
When you next watch a movie pay attention to each shot. Almost all of them have subtle colour treatments that are very deliberate and help convey tone. A director, director of photography and colourist all worked together to create these looks. Some of them can be very subtle and some can be extremely stylised. It depends what you're going for.
I haven't used Sony Vegas, but Final Cut Pro has some pretty decent colour tools built in. However, Da Vinci Resolve (made by Black Magic Design) is the tool a lot of the studios use to do this. It's software that is used with big production-specific editing desks, but they make a Lite version that is very good too. Download it from black magic design
It's really interesting when you get into it. Most entry level cameras have colour values "baked in" to the files they produce, but at the pro level they shoot RAW. People are often surprised when they see RAW because the picture straight out of the camera looks flat and lifeless when we're used to seeing colourful pictures from even cheap cameras. However, it's because pros want ALL the information in the shot and they want it to be uncontaminated so they can play with it fully in post production.
The GoPro Hero 4 Black doesn't shoot RAW, but they have something called ProTune, which gives you more of the unsullied picture back. It's not bad.
Thanks so much! All of the overseas stuff was collected in two months. The stuff around California is just pulls from my best work collected over the years. The oldest shot is probably from Sept. 2014 (light house, Santa Cruz, SF Port).
I just got this filter set which I really like, but honestly unless it's sunrise / sunset you need to pair the ND 16 with like an ND 4 to hit ISO 100, shutter 1/50. So for that, there is another set of filters by this guy in Germany that's just called Phantom Filters and it's just little ND discs you can drop in under a screw on filter. So ill double up using those. I like the set I linked to on Amazon because they're clearly labeled and have stout cases. The phantom filters set is $20 but comes in little bags. Would be perfect to keep each disc in the nicer case that the good filters come in. So it's about $60 all told.
I'm in L.A now. This original video posted here is kind of just me and my roommates freaking out over this house. We got lucky.
Just ones like this for that price range https://www.amazon.com/dp/B011J6DFRS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_ZCqfxbT5TDP4R
I had one of these and the build quality is ok at best.
If you save up more the hard shell is about 100 on sale. I went with a lowepro Droneguard for the same price and it's built waaaaay better. Both can be picked up at Best Buy and price match Amazon
It is a huge pain to put on. Look for combination lens cap/gimbal guards on Amazon or eBay. I picked up the Neewer one on Amazon. 2 for 8 bucks. Much easier to use. I got 2 so I could give one to a buddy.
Neewer® for DJI Phantom 3 Standard, Professional, and Advanced, 2-Pack Protective Camera Lens Caps Protector Covers, Made of Premium ABS Plastic--Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01A0NDQN4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_tai_CNTBybET18R3V
I've got a P1, and cobbled together a very cheap visual system with parts from amazon. First you need a monitor or screen of some sort, and some way to power it/hook it to the controller. Then you need a transmitter and receiver to send the video signal from the gopro back down to the monitor.
For my setup, I found a super cheap portable DVD player with a screen and a composite input, and paired it with a GoPro video signal cable and 5.8ghz transmitter (drone side), and receiver (monitor side), and it works pretty well for around $40-$50. If you go with that transmitter, I'd recommend upgrading the antenna, as the one it comes with is pretty weak, but then again I don't get a lot of distance with my P1 anyway, so it's not that big of a deal.
they were listed by RCGEEK but then the actual seller who fulfilled it was ‘HiBloks’:
i ask because they look and feel like a cheaper plastic that the original props. the hub caps don’t fit as nice or are as nicely glued on and the black and silver ring paint job just doesn’t look as clean. they came in a loose bag of (4) whereas the original ones came in a box of (2). they also don’t say ‘DJI’ on the edge of the blade like the original ones. just wanted to make sure i didn’t get some cheap knockoffs.
pictures above show an actual DJI blade (thinner black line, says DJI on edge of blade) next to these new ones i got.
IMHO a good iMovie competitor just doesn't exist on Android. It's such a shame.
This is the best video editor I've used but I only used it for little phone camera clips, not sure how or if it can handle 4k imports.
2K and 1080 Medium + Narrow are good for almost all gimbals. However the Tarot T2d sees nothing, even in Wide mode. This is because the Tarot Gimbal aligns the lens with the center of the rig (motor on the right). However my first gimbal was an Arris CM2000, this one and the Zenmuse both have the motor on the left, offsetting the lens to the far camera right position. This is why you see more of the left front leg on when using a Zenmuse or similar.
This video was shot with the landing gear and the Arris CM2000 gimbal
great little edit, beautiful footage, and thanks for the prompt reply!
Here's something I shot a little while back here in VT:
I'm going to be posting a fresh edit of some new footage with the 3d as soon as I make the mod!
Here is the AC adapter with the right plugs. The TB50 connector is special to DJI, most likely a custom blade type connector. Same story goes for Phantom 4 and Mavic series.
Nope it works with P3 - you can get the alpha version here - if you don't have access to the group you need to email and he will add you.
Something like an XC5 or XC5-1 is a great cheap starter to learn how to fly the thing. Get it, thrash it, kill it and then look at more expensive options. It has a fairly poor and limited camera but that's compared to the go pro carrying varieties out there for hundreds more.
http://www.cnet.com/news/get-a-syma-x5-quad-copter-for-53-99-shipped/
And by "can" you mean? 150$ is outside my budget :< Will this do? https://www.aliexpress.com/store/product/2016-new-7-inch-800-x-480-500CD-LCD-screen-5-8GHz-40CH-Receiver-FPV-Wireless/119062_32664649736.html?spm=2114.12010612.0.0.lYDiGX
Once the copter is out of your visual sight, you have no idea of your battery status. If it's a bit dark you can always flip off the goggles and look for the low battery lights but if you're more than a hundred yards away you're kind of screwed. It's worth the money to see everything!
/u/FreakinPeanuts had the right idea. I used his links to find a banggood store that should get you there.

What you want to look at is a website called camelcamelcamel. It tracks the historical price of about any item you can think, shows it to you in graph form, and can even alert you when new and/or used prices for that particular item hit a threshold that you set. So historically has the P3P been cheaper at particular times of year? Just look at the graph to find out.
I think it's the gimbal too.
Looking at the weather...
...on that day it said there were gusts of up to 16 mph at ground level, or 7.2 m/s. According to the logs on Healthy Drones, you were hitting 300 ft and that would add about 70% to that speed - 27.2 mph or 12.2 m/s. The drone's maximum flight speed is 16 m/s, so you would see significant tilting if the drone is fighting a strong gust of that speed.
Also, you're flying over water. This really messes with the optical based stabilisation of the drone (the manual suggests turning this off if flying over water). The drone may have thought it was suddenly moving very quickly in some direction, and what you see is it trying to compensate.
But, as another has pointed out, there are never any rotors in shot, which is often the case with extreme tilts of the drone itself. So it could also just the camera (gimbal) tilting. If that's the case you can often fix it by re-calibrating the gimbal in the DJI Go app.
Nice footage! Just got mine last week and have been fighting against the itch to go downtown - keeping it in the sticks for now, while I learn it more... Did you get any funny looks or negative attention with it? I've been curious about the reception of their presence in border areas like this (being on the 5 mi radius of the airport - https://www.mapbox.com/drone/no-fly/).... Looking forward to seeing more!
That's actually a really good idea. I don't have that though.
I have this no fly zone website bookmarked on my phone that I whipped out, and then I also happened to have a copy of the bill that the governor just recently vetoed along with his memo on my phone too.
you can contact litchi directly by going on their website and emailing them if it's a real problem. THose down shots are called nadir shots. YOu can adjust those by dialing it down to 0. Sorry, but I don't know if that works for mac. I haven't used this, but it was also rated as good for panos: http://hugin.sourceforge.net/download/
I found this, which may be of interest to anyone who finds this thread in the future: http://www.skillshare.com/classes/photography/Introduction-to-Aerial-Videography-Creative-Direction-for-Drone-Filming/1023605416
> the new screen on the 12.9" iPad goes to 1600 nits vs the 600 nits on the 11" model.
Wait.. what?! Ok that's something worth going for.
I use the 2nd gen 11 Pro and have a case with a shoulder strap. I put the strap over one shoulder and out from under my opposite arm, adjust the strap and the iPad rests along the top of my stomach/under my chest.
Like this one: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07WQG8XBG/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_1MAA61BGNVAHAX23PWQG
what resolution are you trying to record at? your card may be too slow as it is a U1 card. i’d highly recommend buying a U3 micro as card as they are capable of much higher write speeds. here’s a link
Get something like this:
Flysight Black Pearl All in One Fpv Combo Package for Dji Phantom & Phantom 2, DJI Flamewheel and More https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MQ6UZS8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glc_fabc_YGj7FbRYDYFRV
Maybe I’m missing some detail in your post but why not something like this? I’ve got a similar one by FlyHi that charges two P3 batteries and the controller all at once but don’t see it on Amazon anymore.
[UL Listed]DJI Phantom 3 Series Drone Battery Charger,HKY AC Adapter Replacement for DJI Phantom 3 Professional/Professional (Pro)/Advanced/Standard/DJI Phantom 3 Pro Quadcopter Drone &Remote Control https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HD1YPXQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fabc_bwXPFbD42G9DP
It wouldn't work- it needs to be a micro SD. $159 is way over the top for an SD card. Look for a micro SD with a capacity of 64GB and a good write speed. For example this one (sorry this is UK amazon you should be able to find the US version). Just look for the number in the circle on the card, here its 10 meaning its a high class of write speed.
I've been considering getting one but am not a commercial pilot (yet). I found this one on Amazon that lets me select a more reasonable wording like FAA Registered Drone Pilot.
You're welcome. Also just FYI, in the worst case you might be able to mount the parts on another frame like a Flame Wheel or something along that line.
I use the ape case backpack and the ITE DBS attached to my radio fits in the top perfectly.
Try the long white 5.8 in the middle and the square 2.4 white ones on the side. I bet you'll get great range. That's what I meant by "aim" put the antennas straight up, label side toward the remote so the panels aim out. Aim the remote\panels perpendicular at the drone. This is what i think you have https://www.amazon.com/BlueProton-Phantom-Standard-Extender-Antenna/dp/B01BAEGRZ6
I have this one for mine, it takes much longer to charge batteries than the wall charger does.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B010UZMQU6/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
And it also does not charge the controller. I use it when I go 4 wheeling, I will use up a battery and then leave it on this charger, with 3 batteries I can pretty much keep one available to fly if I only stop and fly around about every 45 minutes or so.
I also have an inverter I use to charger other things, I had to upsize and get a new one as my old 250watt (advertised) unit was having issues driving the charger, I have a 600watt inverter now and its able to drive the wall charger.
I've made that repair a few times on the P3P. It's not that hard. You can find all the parts you need on Amazon and there are examples of gimbal repair on youtube.
Does it have to be GPS? MarcoPolo is a simple RF directional locator that will lead you do your lost UAS.
I've used these since I got my P3P, I swear by them. Just keep the drone in front of you and you'll find your control and video feed range increased significantly.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017MI9ZJE/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
You don't need the gold one. This one is more expensive than the $10 one, but that one only comes with one piece. You might save money with aluminum but I haven't tried that so I'm not sure
Order these items! They hold the gimbal and cover the lens. The one that comes with the P3S is not very user friendly. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01AK445LK/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
This is the backpack I ordered. It's great and fits the drone great. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B017SRLYSY/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Fly in open spaces, not inside. Don't fly around people. Enjoy the outdoors!
>Unlike him/her, however, I chose to get the higher model's phone holder and mod my current controller.
In hindsight I wish I had gone this route and just modified the controller. I bought this and, while I'm keeping it over the stock one, I'm not impressed. I personally wouldn't recommend it as I had hoped it would fold up/down like the DJI ones (with some tension to keep itself in place), but instead it just loosely flops up or down (can't be tightened enough), which is dumb. It can be setup in such a way that it can be tensioned to stay in the upright position, but then it's a real plain to fit in any storage, and requires tools to set back down.
I'd advise you to go the DJI-mount route OP.
I'm in a similar situation and not sure which way I'm going to go. The Polar Pro Drone Trekker looks like a great bag but the Think Tank bag also looks really good. Both have a positive reviews and are priced similarly. Have you looked at the Think Tank? It is also a popular bag to use.
Might have to exercise the Amazon Prime free returns to see which I like best.
Has anyone used the variable ND filters? I found these on Amazon and I'm a little wary because they're so cheap.
PolarPro Dronetrekker Travel Backpack for DJI Phantom 4, DJI Mavic, and GoPro Karma https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01G73Z2U6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_LIHLybRBYZZKZ
I got this for my phantom 4 and I like it so far. It has room to pack any and all phantom accessories, a laptop, chargers, etc etc. it also will hold a tripod on the back of it if needed. It's got a nice chest buckle and hip buckles to help support the weight. Also worth mentioning is that it comes with zipper locks! All in all I like the backpack, one downside is it is a tad on the bulky side
I got this one https://www.amazon.de/gp/product/B01DYN4VPE/ tested myself to 60MB/s (480Mbps) write in Blackmagic Disk Speed Test where DJI claims 4K recording is "only" at 100Mbps. Manual states 128Gb is the max.
I got this one about 2 weeks ago. And big enough to stick my dslr and 2 additional lenses in it.
Caden Multi Function Waterproof Universal UAV Drones Backpack Case For Quadcopter Drone and Canon, Nikon,Sony,Olympus,DSLR SLR Cameras,Fit all DJI Phantom 4/ 3/ 2 Series,GoPro Cameras https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01JKVLGGQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fxCAybFD9XPJT
We chose to get ten of these for the price of one DJI.
The camera isn't worth much, but it has altitude hold, and they can fly it in the classroom, gym, or cafeteria. In addition to this, when (not if) the students crash it, it bounces back fairly easily.
I use this. It's extremely durable and keeps the quad safe inside.
Ahh, nice to see one of the older models once for a while here.
I would toss out the receiver part and look for a display which includes the receiver and antennas, this one is merely an example, the one I used. As per transmitter antenna, those should do fine. I don't know much of the specifics though.
I also recommend something to mount the screen with.
Regarding the CAN, I have no clue.
I bought this soft backpack from Amazon. I'm very happy with it - it has enough room for several accessories, as well as a water bladder for when I'm hiking. I don't store the Phantom in the backpack though - I put it in the original box.
I'm not sure which one Swaggles is talking about, but the Akaso EK7000 is incredible for $80. It can do 4K/25, 2.7K/30, and 1080P/60. It also has wifi for live view and supports the same mounts as a GoPro. I love mine.
Edit: it's also a bit lighter weight than a GoPro so hopefully your flight times would increased.
> I absolutely am and may change, but I've read WAY too many posts about drone crashes that could have been prevented by a pilot, but the person flying was wholly reliant on the tech. To me, if you can fly the quad without all the assisting features in most scenarios, then you're exposure is reduced to the occasional times where you have to stretch to get a shot. If you can't fly it without the GPS/compass at all, then there is no such thing as saving it when things inevitably go wrong.
Exactly, get something like this. It will fly just like any other drone with no assistance. Learn to fly that and you will be able to fly any drone in manual mode.
I think the P3a is so far ahead of the P2 its kind of hard to compare them. The P2 is a gopro lifter with standard analog FPV, poor range, and expensive batteries. The P3a, light bridge, range, and the good camera really is a huge advancement, I think you would be bummed that you didn't go with the P3a after trying the P2.
I get the $ thing. I REALLY want a P4p, that 1" sensor, changeable aperture and global shutter!!!! But I really can't drop $1,500 on it right now. I've already bought tons of crap to upgrade/repair my FPV hex racer, palm sized brush FPV quad, and FPV fixed wing. If I can sell my 6s Y6 w/ 15" props for a decent price maybe.
What is a wind surfer exactly ?
I got this guy SKYREAT Copper Parabolic Antenna Range Booster for DJI Phantom 3 Standard Controller Transmitter Signal Extend https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01DC0ZCN4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_BIZsybR6S042P and it seems to be working well
If you want a cheap cheap one, it would be smarter to just buy this one off amazon, compared to making one.
Before I install any props I balance them, it makes a world of difference.
I use this, and if the prop doesn't balance evenly, I sand a bit until it does.
However, having said that the phrase "so far" bothers me quite a bit
What is it you are doing that makes you think crashing is inevitable?
You shouldn't be flying in high wind, this aircraft is too smart to crash unless you are doing something wrong
I know it's a little pricey, but I got this official DJI hardshell pack and it's been treating me pretty well.
I was thinking amazon.com
But then I stumbled upon this beauty. - $600 for the full setup, can that be right?
And if portability is a concern look at the atomic backpack. Got this for my advanced and it's incredibly portable and looks like your carrying a bag around for school while protecting your drone
https://www.amazon.com/Atomik-RC-Universal-Drone-Backpack/dp/B00W536W9I
I think it's around 1hr 20 mins I think to fully charge a battery. I didn't see a mutlicharger on DJI's site, but THIS is on Amazon.
Hey...I just bought these Filters for half the price of Polar Pro, have you heard of them? https://www.amazon.com/PL-ND4-ND8-Phantom-Standard-Advanced-Quad-copters/dp/B008D64FDG/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1470688864&sr=8-2&keywords=Phantom+filters
https://www.amazon.com/SKYREAT-Parabolic-Standard-Controller-Transmitter/dp/B01DC0ZCN4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1471453155&sr=8-2&keywords=dji+phantom+3+range+booster This is the one i bought. super simple, and i was surprised how well it works. Worth the $15.
First I bought this backpack. I knew better when I ordered it. A lot of these backpacks are the same model but different prices. This one was complete nonsense. No room for props. The bag was extremely cheap
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01EOJGRWW/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o08_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Junk.
Then I bought this.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00QMBORJQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Very happy with it. Plenty of space for everything except my full size ipad. Very strong, great latches I love it. 89 dollars was the right price for me.
Are they class 10 UHS-1 U1? I had the same problem with a 64GB card and had to go to a faster U3 rated card. Here is the card I ended up buying, which works great in my P3S.
I highly recommend this as its lightweight and very subtle. Not obvious at all that you have a drone, which I appreciate. However, you would have to remove the props.
Atomik RC Universal Drone Backpack Case Fits: 200/250/350/DJI Phantom/FPV Quadcopters https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00W536W9I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_0NrHxbY1DC2N4
You can get one of these 3d printed extenders on Amazon. https://www.amazon.com/Extended-Phantom-Inspire-Mobile-Tablets/dp/B00ZP2XZG4/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1467142070&sr=8-1&keywords=drone+ipad+extender
I have a few of these PNY MicroSD cards They're cheaper than the SanDisk Extreme and my speed tests on them get 92Mb/s read and 62Mb/s write. Which is just enough for the Phantom's bitrate.
Lol that's cute. But come on, OP...spend the $9 on Amazon prime. I'll even buy it for you
Thank you so much- Thought I'd just jump it to the majority of the drone shots for this link.
Traveling internationally with the drone wasn't a big deal at all. I wrote a huge post about just the experience of traveling with it here. I don't want to spam our site like crazy after submitting this youtube link, but I threw down quite a few words that covers the entire experience here: travelwithdronedronetraveltipswhatitsliketotravelwithdrone
I mentioned in another post that I use a complete shit bag from Amazon that every knock off chinese manufactuer sells online. cost less than $50 and survived a world of hurt-barely. It is complete crap though for your eyes. Looks like a soul less factory shit it out and never wants to see it again. On the plus side? No one ever tried to steal my drone.
Patagonia sounds sick. You sound like exactly the sort of person who needs to carry extra props and the right tool set with you. It would be tough finding an electronics screwdriver kit there!
Oh no, on the transmitter. I ended up buying this. So does that you were saying about the damage still hold true then since you thought we were talking about the quad?
Phantom 3 Pro. I called him a tough guy- He survived a crash.
I used a piece of shit bag from Amazon to stay low key. It came close to breaking twice but I had it resewn. Last thing I wanted to do was stick out with a fancy "HEY I HAVE A DRONE" bag.
I carry on with this case:
It's pricey but I can't really imagine a better case. There are no compromises with it. It meets all airline carry on restrictions, holds the Phantom with the propellers on, plus all accessories, is waterproof/dustproof, has wheels and a pull out handle, and is built like a tank.
The TSA will take the batteries out and swab them then send you on your way. That's about all there is to it. I've traveled internationally and domestically with it several times with no issues.
I carried it in this which is great. There was one small inter-island flight where they wouldn't let me carry the bag on since it was too big so I just held the bird in my lap during the flight with no issues.
I'm going on a road trip this weekend and got myself this:

Disclaimer: This is not the $250 official DJI backpack but I think it's close enough if not the same.

Yea same here. I am using final cut. You will, looking back on my older videos I can see improvement. I was thinking about getting the polar pro or this one http://www.amazon.com/Mudder-Adjustable-Variable-Advanced-Professional/dp/B01544TQF6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1458137647&sr=8-1-spons&keywords=dji+nd+filter+phantom+3&psc=1
Its adjustable so it would be good for things on the fly.
Hardshell backpack is on Amazon for $103: http://www.amazon.com/DJI-Phantom-Hardshell-Backpack-CP-PT-000239/dp/B00ZWY68I2
Carries everything including the charger, extra props, and three batteries (four if you have one loaded).
It is designed and recommended to reuse. I just got this: http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015SLYAO2?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00 It works much better and is easier to deal with. Important that you don't start up the aircraft until after any lock is removed or the gimbal will try and move.
If the water is clear enough, try one of these first
IMO, if you want to go with a phantom I'd forget about the GoPro. The extra money you'd need to spend for fpv makes itunfeasible when compared to the Phantom 3 models.
If you're determined to use the gopro, the P2 works fine, just doesn't make much sense to me. You could also consider the 3dr Solo
Only alternative I can find is SquareTrade http://www.amazon.com/SquareTrade-Electronics-Accident-Protection-1250-1500/dp/B002HZY552
If you were to buy from amazon, I think this is an option. However you still have a set amount of money (the cost of the drone). But it's a $100 cheaper and covers for 3 years instead of 1.
Edit: Looks like you could buy this insurance on the Phantom 3 but you have to buy it from a specific retailer. Like B&H
this is a great set of small bits and drivers
i have an extra remote for p3p/a if yours bites the dust that i'll sell pretty cheap.
I use this case. It's a little pricey but it's an amazing case especially for air travel. It has a pull out handle and wheels, holds the P3 without removing the props, and holds every accessory you could need. The best part is it's the only case that does all of that while meeting all airline carryon restrictions. It's built like a rock too.

You just need the charger. You can get it straight from the DJI store here or from Amazon here just make sure you get one with the correct plug depending on your region. I personally charged both the controller and the battery fully, but at least make sure they are half full I'd say. The first update can take awhile sometimes and if you get unlucky with a random WiFi signal interruption it can fair and you have to restart.
$120 on amazon with free shipping. why is the ebay deal so great?
Not sure where you are, or whether these are any good, but I've been looking for them too and come up with these two options: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B019W3G1W6?redirect=true&ref_=s9_simh_gw_p201_d0_i1 https://www.polarprofilters.com/products/dji-phantom-3-filter
They both seem fairly overpriced for what are likely lower-grade ND filters (the neewer ones especially, Neewer is fine usually but not great, the PolarPro look higher quality), but I can't find a cheap way to get a collar of some kind onto the lens housing so that any 37mm filter can be used.
Yes, all of the DJI 3rd generation drones are capable of having filters. You just have to find the right ones. Polarpro is the best filters that I have experience with. I use a filter for my GoPro while snowboarding and it makes all the snow less bright and makes the colors pop more. Attached are filters for all the DJI Drones. The professional and Advanced version used a screw type of lens cover while the standard uses a push on design. Im not sure what type of filter the 4K uses wither it is a push on or a screw cap design

I would add motor protectors to that list. Doesn't seem like much but I feel much better about my motor condoms being in place.
