uBlock Origins is available for Microsoft Edge.
I use it in medium mode which means you have to manually configure sites but gives more control over access.
It's not fully clear from this thread what your situation is. See this article about all the ways in which you can restore tabs.
You might want to consider installing an extension that (auto)saves your tabs so you can always restore them: https://tabler.one
Are you using the native functionality to turn pages into dark mode? Unfortunately it's not perfect, I suggest you try https://darkreader.org/ and wait for them to improve the functionality because it's very complicated to manage.
It's likely because the Desktop and Mobile clients are not on the same builds and features, but this is also probably due to the way the Tracking Prevention is resourced and updated.
Microsoft has opted to use as their source for cross-site tracking, but I've filed feedback asking the Edge team to consider using something more robust like the EFF's "Privacy Badger" listing, which seems more purposeful than Disconnect, but maybe /u/MSFTMissy could clarify.
You don’t believe me, so here’s proof automatic https
FYI, another option is to enable an experiment flag for a post-install dialog that has options for creating desktop shortcut, pinning to Start, and pinning to Taskbar.

>Will MS Edge always be Supported by Redmond?
You mean Microsoft. The answer is yes, as long as Windows 10 exists. Microsoft said they don't have plans to release "new versions" of Windows anymore. They won't release a Windows 11, or 12; instead, they will be updating Windows 10 and adding new features twice a year.
Edge is a critical part of Windows 10. All the UWP apps (those from the Windows Store) uses the Edge engine to work, so Microsoft needs to maintain it.
>Will MS Edge always Stay on Windows 10? (Because in MarketShare's MS Edge is going down (2.11% or something)
Yes, because Microsoft needs a browser for its system. Windows /must/ have a browser, even if the user hasn't installed one.
>My lovely Extension is: uBlock Origin, but it doesn't work so good on MS Edge.. do anybody knows if there's a new update out for uBo on MS Edge?
You may find new versions here https://github.com/gorhill/uBlock/releases but I don't know how to install them.
>Why do you love MS Edge, Why you recommend it to me?
I like Edge because I like to use an integrated software ecosysteam. Edge is well integrated to Windows 10. It uses its spellchecking, its notifications, it looks like the rest of the Windows 10 apps, supports dark mode, etc. Scrolling feels the same when using Edge than when using Mail, for example.
Is hard for me to recommend it to you. It is a nice browser, and it can compete with the rest of the browsers. But as you see with Ublock, it still has some details to polish. My second recomendation would be Opera.
> It wont sync of my history
I see. Are you sure settings altered by 3rd party AV reverted after uninstalling? Because blocking Windows from storing users' history on device is pretty popular policy among them. Wild guess - maybe try portable thing like this to see what may be not in default state on your OS.
Well, in Vivaldi browser (which is Chromium based) you can edit elements from in the menus, including the right click one. But Vivaldi uses custom interface layer, based on HTML5, I think. But still - it is a Chromium based browser 😜
Hey, lorraine (and u/thegreatfusilli)! I'm sorry to see any issues with password generator! This should be working on any website when you go to create an account, however we've seen others report similar situations.
When you go to create an account and you aren't seeing the password generator offered, please fill out this survey with the URL to the site that's not working. This will get the information directly to the team to investigate. :)
It sounds like there may be something other than the generator not showing up here, though. Lorraine - Are you noticing that your passwords aren't filling in to the sites that you have previously saved? I'd love to dig a bit further to see if there's more happening here, unless I'm reading into things too much. That's totally possible, too. :3 Thanks for posting, and I look forward to chatting more!
Sorry for the issue that you faced.
Please use this link to install the bookmarklet - https://www.emailthis.me/#bookmarklet. After you type the email where you want to save articles, you'll be asked to confirm the email. Once that is done, drag the big blue 'EmailThis' button to your bookmarks bar. Please note that the left side of the screen has the animation, ignore that. I think that since that animation also has the same button, it gets quite confusing. I'll actually go ahead and remove that animation shortly.
It's not slow, it's labor-intensive. Going forward. Installing Kindle for the desktop is no big deal. But every EPUB book will have to be run through something like Calibre. it converts from EPUB to MOBI, obviously with no DRM material. It's kind of intimidating kind of like Photoshop, but the conversion module is easy enough it took me, meh, a total of 30 minutes spread over 2 or 3 single book conversions to get to the point where I don't need any reference documentation to do a single book conversion. This, actually, is one of the simplest things that Calibre can do.
I would assume it would always be supported. It's probably there main way of getting people to try bing.
As for staying on Windows 10. There is an Android and iOS version https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/microsoft-edge-mobile?apple
But I really wish the would bring a version out for Windows 7 and 8.1. Until they do this Edge will always struggle to get market share.
If you use a PiHole for your DNS server, you can block adverts across the whole network and get a full history of all DNS lookups performed.
You could use OpenDNS for a similar history too: https://www.opendns.com/home-internet-security/
Read aloud is currently supported in all channels, including our Stable channel, so what you experienced was likely a bug or another issue at hand. It's possible that users are having an older version installed and not receiving the update in Edge before uninstalling (if they have that option).
I'd love to troubleshoot this with you. Please reinstall Edge, and once it's launched you can head to edge://settings/help. This will force the browser to check for an update and ensure you are up to date. After it completes it, either restart as it says or head straight into going to a site that you want to read aloud. Highlight the text, right-click, and select Read aloud section or Open in Immersive Reader (depending on the options you have there).
If those don't show up or are grayed out, I'll need a few things to be able to get this to the team, all of which can be submitted via our feedback tool. I'm not sure what OS you're using, but you can open the feedback tool on both Windows and Mac by going to the ... menu > Help and feedback > Send feedback. I use Snipping Tool in Windows 10 to get these kind of screenshots, but you can use whatever you are comfortable with to time a screenshot of the right-click menu options you have available. In the feedback tool, you can add this screenshot on by clicking the link for "diagnostic data" and Attach a file. Click the Save button at the bottom right of the window, and it should take you back to the feedback tool (make sure you include those diagnostics). In the description, detail what you are running into and include the URL of your comment from this thread, so that I can easily find it. From there, I can share with the team what is happening and find out our next steps.
I know this is a lot, so thanks for helping us look into what might be happening here! Let me know if anything needs to be clarified, or if you have to submit feedback. :)
I see you got your answer here, we are indeed doing staged roll-out.
That being said, if you haven't yet, you can always download the new Edge ahead of getting the update. When you install this, Edge legacy is "removed" (hidden) until your device receives the update. It's essentially the same as waiting for the update.
Let me know if you have any other questions or concerns, I am happy to help where I can! :D
You mentioned it also happened when using Chrome.
So we can eliminate Chrome and Chromium browsers try this browser, you can even try it as a portable app so you don't even need to install it.
How do I use this?
Three simple steps:
Download the Pale Moon Portable file (below)
Extract the contents of the file to your USB stick in a folder of your choice (or any folder on your system):
Run the .EXE file and tell it where to unpack (should be an empty or new folder)
Run palemoon-portable.exe (not palemoon.exe) in the location you unpacked to
32bit: https://www.palemoon.org/download.php?mirror=us&bits=32&type=portable
64bit: https://www.palemoon.org/download.php?mirror=us&bits=64&type=portable
Not tried it myself but I think Vivaldi browser has the same issue.... Amazon does some user agent sniffing and only 'supports' chrome. Might be wrong but I think Firefox has similar issues with either Netflix or Amazon.
Vivaldi got fed up so they report a Chrome UA now I think.
Here's the blog from Vivaldi about it
Hey, friend! I sent this over to the team last week to help me figure out what might be happening here. They are seeing the same stuff that you (and others!) are seeing, and are investigating now. I'll circle back once I hear more from them on this!
In the meantime, they found that exiting Edge and relaunching helps with these speeds; even something as simple as changing the server you're connecting to has shown improved speeds. They also suggest trying out other speed test sites like speedof.me to get an idea on if those are showing different results, too.
Thanks so much for this report! Stay tuned for when I have more news from the team. :)
Asana? As in this? https://asana.com/
Doesn't that offer some stand-alone client or component outside of the web browser?
If not then sorry, I have no idea. (Well one, if you were to install the site as an app and it was somehow running but that I'd think would also show as a process with the label msedge.exe so it shouldn't be a possibility either based on your comment).
Thank you for reporting this, and also for trying out Microsoft Edge! I hope you're otherwise enjoying it.
As for this issue, please try Microsoft Edge Dev for Android, as well as the main Microsoft Edge browser. Canary, specifically, is the build the team uses to test out new updates to the browser, and we advise users to bear in mind that some surprises may occur. If this issue still happens on the Dev build and/or the main Microsoft Edge browser, however, that will help our investigation into this matter.
I appreciate your time and hope to resolve this soon. As well, I very much like your user name! Be well!
Thank you for reporting this, and I've forwarded this to the team for investigation. They'll look into this to see if any fixes can be provided.
In the meantime, can you please try out the Canary and Dev versions of Microsoft Edge? These contain more recent fixes and updates, and confirming whether this issue happens there will help my investigation.
I appreciate your time and wish you all the best. Have a great day!
I appreciate your reporting this, and the team is investigating this right now. Can you please confirm whether this happens on the Canary and Dev channels, as well? This will help me to fully verify when this is taking place. May I also ask on what device, specifically, you are accessing Microsoft Edge?
Thanks for this! I hope to bring you a more precise update soon.
Hey, friend! I'm sorry about the delay in response here, and to see any frustrations with input delay on mobile! I'm hoping I have a quick fix for you here, as I don't see you mention what version you are on.
Have you tried out either our new Canary or Dev Android apps? If you haven't yet, it's possible that either one of these could resolve the input lag you are seeing, as the main Edge on Android app is currently, well, outdated. I tend to suggest that people use the Dev channel, as that's updated weekly and less likely to have issues versus our Canary channel which is updated daily. However, some people enjoy Canary and how quickly they get access to new features. Let me know how it works for you if you are able to test either of these apps.
However, if you are on one of those and still experiencing this, I'd love to get more information from you! First, tap on the ... menu button > Settings > About Microsoft Edge and let me know the version you are currently using. I have all of those keyboards you mention you tried out, so also let me know what you typically use for your default. While the issue may occur on others, I'd like to test out what you personally use so that I can share with the team your specific case (if I need to get this in front of them).
We can go from there! Thanks for posting up this situation, and including a GIF for context. Looking forward to chatting more. :)
Hey, Thade! Just hopping in to make sure you knew that we dropped the new app, and launched the Dev version on Android. Figured you may want to try it out. :)
Hey there, u/yjamal01! Firedog has a great suggestion here, and I'm wondering if you were able to install the new app and get sync set up for you.
It's possible you may need to toggle the sync feature off and on if you are still having sync issues. If you aren't comfortable with the Canary build and its potential for instability, we also just rolled out the Dev channel for Android. Let me know if either of these get your sync going or if you're still stuck. If you're stuck, please share with me a screenshot of your sync settings page, and let me know what the Summary says on edge://sync-internals. This will give me a starting point for troubleshooting. :)
Thanks for posting! I do hope you're all sorted out, but if not we can for sure dig further!
Hey, chip! Thanks for posting up your situation and what got you all sorted out. I spotted in the comments that you are using the current version of the app and I wanted to follow up on this. Even though you found a work around, I am curious to know if the new Insiders app has this same work around or if the experience is improved. I encourage you to install either our Canary or Dev channel on Android and let me know if you are able to edit those links by doing the long press that Jonny had you try before. I look forward to seeing how it goes for you! :)
Take the Canary version for a test drive: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.microsoft.emmx.canary
It's the same build as the one for PC, currently 92.0.870.0, and sync works fine for me.
Hi, thanks for the reply.
I consider myself a fairly conservative user, use mostly Microsoft products for usefulness and convenience, avoid non-essential downloads, have up-to-date security software and scan, scan and re-scan.
When the add-on was flagged as malicious and I started to look for more information, I guess I became alarmed at how easy it was for me to install such software and that it wasn't detected by my security software.
As I mentioned in my original post, I didn't notice any of the behaviour mentioned with the other add-ons or any other suspicious behaviour, so I was concerned about other threats not yet identified/publicised.
It would help if Microsoft could include some information about the nature of risks to the user when they disable malicious adds-on in the store as I imagine they must know why it's malicious when they decide to disable/remove it.
Just as an aside, I was also surprised that NordVPN was obviously aware that their product was being cloned and published in the store but didn't alert their customers. I'll send them some feedback to alert them to the problem again.
Thanks again. I appreciate the information.
Indeed. Google checks the extensions based on the code and patterns. They improved this after the problems with malicious extensions.
I also indicate this in the post: (Edge default)
>I did not allow edge extensions from other stores, while this may be more secure.
You can also check the extension with the owner or official website of the extension(s). This extension is from February 2021. So this is quite recent.
It is an identical NordVPN copy of the real extension, but with malicious code. It is undetectable for users.
When I search on PS the term you said, it should me android system webview app"
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.webview
Which is fortunately disabled by me. Anything else?
Hey, all! Based on feedback from this thread (and this one, the team investigated and removed these extensions from our Addons store:
If you were using any of these extensions installed directly from the Microsoft Edge Addon store, we suggest removing them from edge://extensions.
If you have more than just these listed extensions and continue to see ad injections, please reply to this comment with a list of your extensions so that the team can investigate further. We again suggest turning off extensions if you continue to see the issue crop up.
I massively appreciate everyone's diligence in helping nail this down. Please let me know of any other issues you're spotting and extensions you have installed. Happy to get it over to the team, if needed!
I disabled extensions on one computer to see the effect. On the other I've been carefully investigating each extension I have installed, as on the German forum someone posted that he found the culprit was an extension that LOOKED liegit on the Edge Add-Ons store but which WASN'T actually sanctioned by the creator (it was NordVPN). He warned that some extensions that aren't officially on Edge Add-Ons store are being spoofed very accurately and with additional code added.
In my case, I checked every extension and all of the authors web pages have direct links to Edge Add-Ons EXCEPT one specific add-on: Adguard VPN
The Adguard VPN web site has a link to the Chrome web store, but nothing directly to Edge Add-Ons. So I have put in an inquiry with them to see if they have actually posted the Add-On to the MS web site.
As a programmer, I'm actually trying to compare the Edge vs. Chrome store versions of the Adguard VPN extensions. But it's complicated since the version numbers are different on each (maybe in itself a sign that there is a problem?)
Anyway, I'm investigating and will let you know if I see a change in behaviour or discover a difference in the code of the extensions.
