Its not a conspiracy to have you buy pro. Is anyone out there proficient with https://www.charlesproxy.com/ ? If you are and can send me the logs from your device while an ad like this is shown, it would go a long way to helping us get these fixed.
This is a good list! Thanks for taking the time to share all that. Good news is everything is on our big ol' todo list in some form.
I just bumped up the priority for /r/friends support because that's been requested a number of times recently. It seems like it's a feature people are definitely starting to use more.
If you want to see what other stuff we have lined up check out this link on desktop (doesn't work right on mobile sadly): https://trello.com/b/QIu6XCoc/narwhal
Thanks again! 🍻
Hi and welcome to Narwhal 🐳 ! A lot is gesture based here.
On posts and comments : swipe from right to left to upvote, swipe farther to downvote.
On posts : swipe from left to right to save, swipe farther to hide.
On comments : swipe from left to right to reply, swipe farther to open a more menu and get more options.
You can customize how far you have to swipe to go from one action to the other in preferences > advanced settings > ui customization.
Here are some useful links I like to give to new users :
No, he's right. This was actually noticed a year ago and recorded by the developers here:
There are pictures in that thread which show the difference. The one used in narwhal looks bad and is not consistent with the rest of the phone. Not sure if /u/det0ur knows about this because only the designer replied in that thread.
Edit: Looks like the tracking isn't right and should be adjusted based on the size of the font, Apple has a handy chart https://developer.apple.com/ios/human-interface-guidelines/visual-design/typography/
Welcome to Narwhal 🐳 !
A separator between comments has been requested a few times before. If the tweak in design is made, it will probably be a thin bar between comments. Although maybe the devs will like your suggestion and do it, we can't be sure.
As for the left menu, this would mean reversing the whole UI as well, since you swipe from left to right to go back. This way of swiping back is used all across native apps and third party apps, and I really don't think it'll ever change. It's just too much hassle for something which takes a few hours to get used to if you used an app with left menu before.

Hi, and welcome to Narwhal 🐳 !
Unfortunately, this feature is not available on the app.
There have been past requests for an option to reverse the whole interface, and the team said they weren't going to do it. Thumbnails however, it might happen, I don't know what the devs think about it.
Since you're new, here are some cool links related to the app :
Have fun with the app !
Thanks for the suggestion! In general, we just want to create the best app. As with any software development, prioritizing features is one of the hardest parts. We are committed to making narwhal the best over time and I think we've settled on a business model that works for us. I don't want to give the impression that we are only in this for the money, because our first priority is to making narwhal the best.
For people who do want to go above and beyond we have our patreon page: https://www.patreon.com/getnarwhal?ty=h
Hi and welcome to Narwhal !
Unfortunately there are only two options available for post feeds : tiny previews or full size previews. I guess you could use the small mode with 3Dtouch peek but that's wouldn't be the same, and you have to have an iPhone 6s/7.
When in the comment section, all actions in comments are swipe based. Swipe from right to left to upvote, swipe further to downvote.
Swipe from left to right to reply, swipe further to open the more menu, in which you'll find options like save comment or share comment.
You can customize the swipe distance it takes to go from up to down or to reply to more in the right menu > preferences > advanced settings > ui customization.
You can't change the color of the app, though there is a night theme that you can switch on by tapping Arnie the narwhal in the top left hand corner on your main feed, or in preferences.

Hey er-day and gang, after some further research this seems to be a bug with iOS and not something we can control. Here's one forum discussion that hints it's a more widespread problem: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/6687433?start=0&tstart=0
As /u/Ahti333 mentioned, it looks like one solution is to pinch the video with two fingers to exit when the UI is being finicky. Let us know if this helps next time your UI locks up like that.

er-day, in regards to the other items you mentioned, we're still actively developing narwhal and trying to get an update out once a month to address these much needed features and bug fixes. (we put in as much time as we can between our more than full time jobs.) If you're on desktop, you can view many of the things we have planned here: https://trello.com/b/QIu6XCoc/narwhal
One thing, you can actually search within subs, although we might have to make this easier in the future. To do so go to the sub you want to search in, open search, then tap the subreddit name beneath the search bar.
Cheers!
crickets...
> It doesn't have delegate methods to control content loading, so it doesn't make sense to use it for the main content of reddit post... https://trello.com/c/HPdf1EOk/183-use-safari-view-controller-for-http-links-in-comments-but-not-main-content-as-it-preserves-login-credentials-across-all-apps-tha
Why does the app need to control content loading of the main content window? I believe a lot of people are looking to leverage content blocking enabled in Safari View Controller.
Thanks for the kind words and welcome to the sub! Glad to have ya. We'll be adding some reddit gold icons after we knock out a few high priority bugs and fixes, along with flair and also cakeday icons. Still lots to do just not a lot of time to do it right now. But eventually! You can see some of the other things we'll be chipping away at here: https://trello.com/b/QIu6XCoc/narwhal
Cheers! 🍻
Try Slide. I really like it. Just switched from my previous client that I've used for years.

Hi ! The devs have mentionned a bunch of times that 3Dtouch shortcuts customization is coming soon !
Here's the team's Trello, where they have lists of what they're working on / want to work on ordered by priority.
Hey ! Welcome to Narwhal 🐳 !
I'm pretty sure this has been requested by other users, meaning it probably is getting on the devs' to-do list.
Here is the link to the team's Trello. You can see there everything they are currently working on.
You can get a fancy subreddit flair here (choose wisely) !
Be sure to ask if you have any question, but be sure to check r/getNarwhalFAQ first !
Have fun using the app !
Thanks for the kind words and taking the time to share all of that. Everything but increasing distance between posts is on our to do list, I think. At least mental to do list. We'll likely get to GIFs in a couple versions after we release the 1.8 beta soon.
If you want to see more of what we're chipping away at first we have this public list (although it doesn't work right on mobile... /me shakes fist at Trello) https://trello.com/b/QIu6XCoc/narwhal
The space thing I'll have to take a look at. It's never bothered me before but maybe it will now that I'll be thinking about it!
Cheers 🍻
Hey alex, that's on the top of our to do list! It's definitely coming in the next update. You can see some of the other items on our to do list here. A lot of them will be coming in later months but the items in the high priority list you should see soon. Also, if you create a trello account you can actually vote on your favorites, which will help us know which ones we should prioritize. No need to delete your post unless you want to. Cheers!
If the issue is with SVC, wouldn't everyone (who uses SVC) be experiencing it? I know I haven't - I thought I was here, but I learned that was a different issue. There must be something specific on some peoples' devices that is causing this issue for them and not others.
I did find this, I'm not sure if it's related though.
Looks like it may have something to do with the recent iOS YouTube app update. Dev team is aware and it's tracked on their trello, albeit at "medium" priority. UnforTunate, it's really affecting my usage of narwhal.
No problem ! Don't hesitate to ask here or even PM me any question you'd have. This app is great and it'd be a shame if you didn't use it to its full potential !
Since you're new, here are some cool links related to the app :
Have fun on Narwhal 🐳 !
Edit : I want to add that you might get some issues with ads going full screen and videos being played. This is an issue with shady ad providers that the team is actively trying to resolve (might even be over right now). You can share the app on social media for one month without ads, and ultimately purchase the no-ad version. The team is always active, and updates come really fast. Worth the few bucks !
Hey ! This has been requested a few times, and I don't recall seeing the team say anything about it. Here is their Trello, you'll find everything they're working on / want to work on in the future with different levels of priority !
Have fun on Narwhal 🐳 !
I would very much like this feature too.
They have a feature & bug to-do list in the sidebar that you can look at to see if the feature will be added. I haven't checked it, but if it's not there I think you can suggest features.
Hey, sorry for the delay. It's been a very busy couple of weeks. This is great feedback and I'm in complete agreement with you on all accounts! :) I believe each one of these is actually in our jumbo todo list here, in some form: https://trello.com/b/QIu6XCoc/narwhal
A big reworking of the "add comment / new post" is really high on my personal todo list, as seen here: https://trello.com/c/UtT1uuus I'm hoping we can get that in within the next couple of versions.
Thanks for the great feedback!
Hey Q, all at once is good! We do have quite a large list of items on our to do list, which you can check out here if you haven't already. But yea, share away! Thanks bud.
Hey, thanks for the feedback again, Bubo! You're a feedback machine. :D
We actually recently became aware of that double post bug from another report here. We filed it on our trello list under "prevent duplicate posts in scrollview" here. I've been seeing it too lately, but curiously I never noticed it before the past month or so, so I'm not sure if it's a bug that sprung up recently or maybe I just have to get my eyes checked. Either way, we'll get it fixed up.
I'll take a look at the giant bold text. I noticed that too recently, in that suggestions post lando made. I was a bit surprised by it but then I opened it on desktop reddit and noticed it was equally bold and big in chrome. I'll review what we have going on for those header tags though and make some adjustments if I can.
Thanks bud!
Hey ping, I can really appreciate your love for the show Friends and wanting a dedicated special section just for that. I'm sure you have posters of Ross above your bed and that's totally cool!
Ok, ok. I'm just kidding. Thanks for the actual useful feedback and sorry for my not useful response. :P To reply seriously, we don't currently have support for friends but I added it to our list. Thank you pointing that out!
Really sorry about that bud :( I know it's a pain. We flubbed it up in the last update when we added a last minute fix to open reddit links natively instead of a webview. There is a fix coming though! It's even on the top of our Trello list here. We decided to go with a pretty simple solution of adding a link but as a result the mockup is really underwhelming, largely why I haven't shared like I thought I would want to. :\
We just opened up our beta list to beta... err, better avoid these slipups in the future. If you'd like to join PM me an email address, we'd love to have ya! if you join you'll get access to new builds much faster than the general public, which will mean metacomments much sooner! Cheers!
Hey, I went ahead and added lefty features as an item to brainstorm s'more over on our Trello list. As an alternative, I've considered doing an autohide after posts are read, or maybe some kind of a hide all read. Do you think you'd benefit from something like that?
I'd love to contribute to narwhal, so I too would love to see it go open source (not necessarily free, but open source).
I understand this would be a huge decision and I would not expect the devs to do it, but oh well.
There is some precedent for paid open source apps on iOS and OSX. Textual, for example, is an IRC client for OSX available on GitHub under a quite permissive (basically you have to give attribution if you use parts of the source) license. And I am sure there are more paid and open source apps.
So this might be a possibility, but like I said, this is a big decision and I don't expect this will happen.
Think I saw it in r/apolloapp but I couldn’t find the post again. That being said he doesn’t mention any Limited spots on his website so I don’t think you have to worry
It's strange because I have an android phone so am unable to use narwhal whilst on it but the client I have on there (Relay) seems to have had the spoiler feature for a while because it was last updated on 24^th December 2016 and yet as you can see here it already has a spoiler tag option
Considering what the reddit developers have said though it seems like a different system to nsfw so I'm not sure how exactly the app was able to distinguish without prior knowledge (or maybe some future proofing)
