Not for the OP but here's a good one this week only. It's for what I've come to call Android Lite.

It's a Froyo (Android 2.2) phone. The web service is 3G. The screen keyboard is slow. The IRC program I used (on another similar phone) has small print. But it does youtube and it has all the Android bells and whistles - toy toy. (No VOIP; for that you need a later Android version.)

But it puts the web in your hands all the time for $50 plus $45/month flat. (No added tax on a no-contract phone.)

From experience.... great chance that the HDD is going to be OK. Stick your nose against the back of the case over the bit where the fan is. Take a good sniff....if you get a good whiff of burning then chances are it is the Power Supply. If it isn't, this action alone is likely to look crazy enough to break the tension with your neighbour! If you end up replacinf the power supply, don't forget that you can can always replace with a higher output PSU without causing damage but you should avoid a lower output PSU.

No idea how techy you are but if you pull the HDD and attempt to recover the data, don't panic if you aren't able to see the files that you think should be there. Depending on how your neighbour's pc was setup, you might not have permission to access them or copy them. The easy fix for this is to either use software such as R-Studio

About learning, Lynda is one of the best online places to learn programming, audio, photography, video etc.

If this is an area that you want to study for, that's great, But its a long way and as you learn, you discover how much more there is to know. Most people forget is not just about what a program can do, is about security, performance and stability, management and this is just about the program. Then goes to the server side, for setup, maintenance, again security etc etc.

I always use Gifsicle to do this. It only works with GIFs, so you'd need to convert the JPEGs first, which can easily be done in batch with ImageMagick. Both are open source with no arbitrary limitations.

Thanks so much for your reply and eagerness. I was thinking of some kind of design that involves the acronym. One of our group memebers recently put this together but no one was particularly fond of it. It seemed too militaristic, a bit busy with the words spelled out in the chevrons, and no one was a fan of Helvetica. We did decide that we want something bold and unique that would be recognizable from a flyer across the room. I also wasn't a big fan of the Gold and Black as those are our school color and all of the campus groups use them. I thought maybe some purple accents would go nicely with a black a gold and help keep it more original. Again, thanks so much for your help with anything you are able to contribute.
