I noticed they were injecting javascript content into http connections just yesterday. I use noscript to block javascript and IP addresses started coming up in the permissions list. This is weird because most websites have content linked by domain.
That’s not a Security or Police boot, that’s the kind you order on Amazon LOL. He definitely put it on himself. Small cars like these are huge targets for being stolen. I have the same boot.
Something looks funky about the way that cargo basket sits in your hitch receiver. They sell shims and clamps to straighten everything out and make it more secure. I wouldn't want to drive behind that thing .
[Lifetime Warranty] Anti Rattle Hitch Tightener Stabilizer No Sway for 2" and 1.25" Steel Heavy Duty Rust Free https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N22S92X/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_xEOeDbK34CCER
Like any other college, they have crappy professors and amazing professors. Definitely check Ratemyprofessors.com before you choose a class. I did not do well in high school at all, but I was able to get my GPA up to a 3.8 at Suffolk and transfer to Stony Brook afterwards.
You can check out meetup.com. There are a variety of groups. For example, hiking or movies would probably be pretty comfortable for an introvert. You might need to dig through the site a bit to find which groups are active and which groups are not just advertisements. Good luck!
My favorite is the run from Belmont State Park to Argyle State Park. A bit of horse poop to dodge, but it's beautiful.

I like those stickers too. I may or may not be visiting montauk this weekend, if I see them I will be sure to ask if they make shipments. Maybe they’re sold on amazon? I found this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01D1XWWVC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_Tsa-Cb52RT34X
Amazon - Re-useable grocery bags
My husband and I have found these re-useable bags to be worth the purchase. 10 for $18. They’re pretty durable and have a small plastic bottom so they can stand up straight.
I have a 2015 Sierra so basically same truck. You’ll want to air down to 15-20psi. Easiest way to accomplish this is with something like these: Staun Automatic Tire Deflators... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00QBPBLWY?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share
You’ll want a good compressor to air back up. The $30 ones at autozone work but they’ll take you 40 minutes. Spend a little bit of money and get a good one. VIAAIR and ARB are very good compressors. you’ll need the air line and air chuck as well.
I also recommend you get a good recovery strap and some D-rings. You have recovery hooks on the front of your truck would should suffice but I also got a d-ring recovery hitch. I’ve only had to use it once (the one time I didn’t air down) and it worked great. A shovel, jack, and jack board are also required.
As for actually driving on the beach, I keep my truck in 4hi if the sand is real soft, but if it’s packed hard I just put it in auto 4x4. If you’re in 4hi just don’t forget to put it back in 2wd when you leave! Just keep it slow and so long as you’re aired down you shouldn’t have any issues getting stuck.
I mostly go to Democrat Point and Sore Thumb beaches which are state parks. DP has compressors you can use so long as you have an air line, but ST does not. Not sure which state park beaches have compressors or not.
We use NextDoor.com around here. Great source for finding and reporting lost pets. Along with warning neighbors of things and even praising certain things. Yeah, hard to believe...
I think I saw a sign looking for one around exit 57, north side, near MacArthur Ave or a road just off it near the north service road of the LIE. I'll take a look in a little bit to confirm (it's a bit of a ride) I'm right about that and will call the person to give them the phone number you provided here if, indeed, it was a lab.
EDIT - if any of you are closer, this link should work. It'll show about where I saw the sign: https://maps.google.com/maps?q=40.810715,-73.197125&num=1&t=h&z=20&iwloc=A
For some context, it was a few days ago so it might be a bit of a long shot.
I just bought this serta office chair from walmart, its pretty cheap considering the price of some desk chairs and is pretty comfortable. Unless you're looking to get one used which I wouldn't do with a chair like that.

According to their twitter[ the creator of Wallbase, Yotoon, came down with an illness and lost contact both with the official Wallbase forums and Wallbase's own staff. Wallbase continued on without him for about a year, albeit without the ability to upload new wallpapers. They don't actually know why Wallbase went down -- The domain was paid until 2015 -- and without Yotoon, no one can bring it back up. Wallbase's staff are working on a new site, though: http://wallhaven.cc . It's currently in alpha, but entirely usable. Doesn't have much of a selection, but when it moves to beta, they're planning on migrating Wallbase's wallpapers over
Have you already ruled out one that straps on like this? They are super convenient and secure. I’ve used it on my jeep no problem.
I have a roof mounted Yakima rack. Pros are I don’t have to take a tire off and I can still use my trunk. Cons are it’s only for one bike, it’s a little difficult lifting the bike up and into it, and it’s SO TALL. I officially can’t drive on the Sagtikos or the parkways with it because of the low bridges.
A hitch rack is pretty good but kind of pricey and overkill for one bike. I also personally feel like they bounce around too much for my liking.
Hope that helps. For the record, I got my Yakima rack from Adam’s Cyclery in East Northport
This. Do this! ExpressVPN works great for me. Then even have an app for your phone and it let's you split stream. (You will learn later why that's good to have on a phone.) 1 account will run 3 items (computers, phones, even TVs at once.) But you can install on everything and flip them on and off.
shell gas has always been a better quality gas so i've read. Who really knows? Oddly though, more shell stations are now popping up, so prices should be coming down. Do yourself a favor and get the gasbuddy app to find the best deals. I got shell gas 3.19 premium the other day in east meadow & the other in rvc when the one in wantagh is like 3.65
Hey, since I have a Fallout 4 pro here let me ask a question I can’t find online. Did anybody ever find that Easter egg Todd Howard said was in a terminal that nobody had discovered? https://kotaku.com/the-hunt-for-fallout-4s-last-secret-1760111981
Avalon is a lovely spot.
https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/new-york/avalon-east-farm-preserve
Park at the small shopping center across the road- there's an adorable tea spot there called Robinson's tea room if you're a tea person. There's also Crazy Beans if coffee is more your style.
Walk down and across the road to the park and enjoy! There is a small labyrinth, lots of gorgeous flowers, and dispersed throughout are several sculptures and installation art pieces that are both beautiful and thoughtful.
It is also dog friendly!
If you're only on Long Island for one day, I'm not sure if I'd suggest heading all the way to Montauk. While Montauk and the Hamptons are great places to visit, getting there and back is going to be absolutely brutal on a holiday weekend in the summer and will take several hours out of your time.
Instead, consider Jones Beach or Robert Moses, which are a lot closer and are still excellent beaches.
If beaches aren't your thing and you'd prefer to see a historic (by American standards!) mansion and gardens, Planting Fields is beautiful. It would be a nice romantic place to take your wife, if you're looking for something like that.
my nephew's was botched, though not mutilated. I have a boy and didn't get one because I didn't want to put him through such a thing. I am neither for or against it, it should be left to the parents after a doctor explains the pros and cons.
"The American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) says the benefits of circumcision outweigh the risks. However, the AAP doesn't recommend routine circumcision for all male newborns. The AAP leaves the circumcision decision up to parents — and supports use of anesthetics for infants who have the procedure.
The risks of not being circumcised, however, are not only rare, but avoidable with proper care of the penis."
(the last sentence is why I decided against it)

On Saturday I went all around Blydenburgh County Park in Smithtown. I would recommend it!
You're not going to find any "real" hikes IMO on the island but this one was pretty nice.
It was at the end of a road south off Middle Country (Route 25) in Smithtown. I think it was on the big asphalt area at the end of Seagram Ave. I'm not sure what they did with the space after it closed, but I think the same building may still be there.
You can keep Optimum for cable only, and if you have a Roku/AppleTV/FireTV/XBOX and/or a smart phone, you can get Sling TV. For $20 a month you get:
ESPN, ESPN2, TNT, TBS, Food Network, HGTV, Travel Channel, Cartoon Network/Adult Swim, Disney Channel, ABC Family, CNN, El Rey Network, Maker, Galavision, AMC (coming soon)
They also have add-on packages for more channels.
Also if you're a big Netflix user, Cablevision has a huge leg up on FiOs. Cablevision participates in Netflix's Open Connect program which has them at the top of the speed charts in the US.
Try Freecycle.org.
"The Freecycle Network™ is made up of 5,286 groups with 9,115,868 members around the world. It's a grassroots and entirely nonprofit movement of people who are giving (and getting) stuff for free in their own towns. It's all about reuse and keeping good stuff out of landfills. Each local group is moderated by local volunteers (them's good people). Membership is free. To sign up, find your community by entering it into the search box above or by clicking on 'Browse Groups' above the search box. Have fun!"
I cut TV and phone. Previously had their all-in-one router/cable box. Replaced their modem with this one. For a router I went with Ubiquiti, but others are fine too. If you get a new modem, you will need to call them and provide the MAC address to allow it on their network. It’s not just plug and play. Also if you have poor speed (or less than your plan is for) call them everyday, make them send techs. This documents the poor speed and I was able to get my past months prorated for poor service.
Around 1999/2000 my family became a bottled water/water delivery only family. Those big ass Poland Spring Fridge Dispensers, Water Cooler Tanks, and various size sports bottles add up over the years.
After moving to central Suffolk around about 6 or 7 years ago, I had the Water Authority over to test our water. Report showed everything was "within safe parameters".
What they don't tell you, is that some of the more concerning compounds have no legal limit establish nor has any mitigation/filtering technology in place.
This is the undercounted RO filter I got off Amazon a few years back. I got the Icemaker/Fridge Adaptor as well.
This company also makes whole house systems + RO Drinking/Cooking system that can be purchased for under $3,000.
I stay on top of the filter replacement, and check the total PPM with a tester about twice a year. haven't had any issues with it.
If you are worried about missing mineral flavor you may want to look into mineral drops or something like Third Wave water supplements for coffee brewing.

But alas I'm switching to Fios at the end of the month, fuck Optimum. Sick of them.
I was almost finished reading "The Big Oyster" by New Yorker Mark Kurlansky and wanted to get to the end before posting this.
I, along with 132 Amazon readers, rate it 4.4/5 stars. It is the history of our New York region, INCLUDING Long Island, from a unique and really interesting perspective: that of the oyster.
I saw it recommended on another Reddit thread, and being a personal history buff who prefers to read about history from angles other than just those that quote dry dates and events, found it really enjoyable, informative and fun.
The author starts with a naturalist's perspective of the whole New York harbor at the time of Henry Hudson and brings us up to the present day. There is considerable mention of the oyster beds of the north shore and the Great South Bay, of the native Americans of our area and their middens (including some middens that are still buried in Manhattan).
I found out how Peter Stuyvesant lost his leg, that the Lenape Indians believed that each star in the sky is a footprint made by a loved ones walking to heaven after death (now I look at the Milky Way differently), that the oyster filled the harbor and every entrance to LI sound and Great South Bay with massive oyster reefs & was a main source of food for the poorest of the poor, etc.
It was a treat to read about the history of our area from a completely fresh perspective. If you want to check it out, just get it from your library (or request it.) 61% of the Amazon readers rated it 5/5 stars.
Mosquito candles, fans running, bug spray for everyone should just about do it.
Or, if you want a hard core option, you can buy this for $899 on Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Mega-Catch-MCU-900-ULTRA-Mosquito-Trap/dp/B0051C0J7G/ref=br_lf_m_edp4vgq47rhr2qf_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&s=lawn-garden. Though I've never bought one myself.
I got this app a couple weeks ago. It pins all the spots on a map. You can open each location for more info on parking, fees, & user comments.

Here is a Field Guide to the Long Island Sound that's a really great basic book for marine and plant life around the Sound. I bet there's probably one for the south shore or for fungi as well.
For my android phone I use NoRoot Firewall, by GreyShirts. It's basically a VPN, and have no idea about it other than it 'just works'. You will need to white-list or deny privileges to apps with this 'app'.

If you're going to torrent, I highly recommend you do something to mask your IP address. It's only a matter of time before you get a warning letter from your ISP or the FBI.
I use a VPN that makes me appear to be located in Sweden, where coincidentally the Pirate Bay is based. It's called anonine.com, and it's $7 per month. There are no free VPNs that you should use. Being in Sweden can be a pain in the ass because a few navigation tools in Google wind up being in Swedish, but I love Anonine. They promise they don't keep any records of your internet traffic.
Basically, the point really is that if you get the right VPN, it won't matter what sites Optimum blocked, you won't get any complaints about your torrenting, AND your internet use won't be logged by your ISP.
Check out Weather Timeline. It does hour by hour and has six different data sources to choose from. My favorite part are the rain alert notifications. It's pretty cool to know that it's about to rain in ten minutes.

To add to this - I’m not particularly opposed to switching to FIOS, but I don’t really see how I’d benefit from it either. I like having access to News 12, so if anything I only lose by switching to them.
Anytime I’ve tried to fish for information on their services I’m met with complete non-answers. What are their average upload/download speeds like? Ping and jitter measurements? What kind of data caps or throttling techniques do they implement? Static or dynamic IP? Is it against the ToS to run a server on the connection?
This is a current measurement of my optimum connection, over 5gHz wi-fi, where the router is upstairs and at the other end of my house. Maybe some Fios customers in the area can share speedtest results to compare?
For cycling, the Setauket Greenway Trail is a 5.1 mile path: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/new-york/setauket-port-jefferson-station-greenway-trail
There's also West Meadow Beach (Trustees Road) which is a 2-mile round trip path, which you could bike to from the surrounding relatively quiet residential roads. Both places are nice walking paths as well.
For parks, there's Avalon Park in Stony Brook, Frank Melville Park in Setauket. Dogs are permitted at both.
Stony Brook Village is a quaint place with small shops near the water, where restaurants including Pentimento and Mirabelle are located. There's also one or two boutiques, though I think one recently left.
For home renovation, Home Depot and Lowes are both nearby in South Setauket and Lake Grove. There's also an Ace Hardware in Setauket.
I'm sure there's numerous places for yoga in the area, but if you're into hot yoga, there's Hot Yoga Works (formerly Bikram Yoga) in Setauket.
3V is a nice area that has a decent sense of detachment from typical Long Island suburbia.
it was at a place in Patchogue called Brew and Beyond, not sure if they're still around. This was the groupon I originally bought but had to get refunded: https://www.groupon.com/deals/brew-and-beyond-4
Yeah, I ordered it for $113!!! The course is entirely online. You can work on it whenever you want. I am currently watching the videos rn, lol. It’s a 75 hour course then you take your final exam and then state exam. https://www.groupon.com/deals/realestateu-1-10
OP, have you ever read this book? It may not interest you, but it's worth the read if you want to learn how corrupt SCPD has been, at least historically.
The age of Internet of Things is upon us. I run a AV/Network company as a side hustle fwiw
Beware going consumer grade currently. If your home is light on IoT devices you can probably get away with a simple consumer grade router. But if at any point you are looking to add in say a Nest system, wifi speakers, smart TVs, computers, etc etc then you should be looking into a whole home system. Consumer grade routers just do not have the capability to handle houses with 20-30 IoT devices anymore.
IMO: Start with the Modem. Replace with an Arris Surfboard. Then I would actually run a Ubiquiti UDM Pro as my router. Two cables are jockied to two access points, with additional runs to each room to provide ethernet access via hardwire if need be. Provides complete coverage for my 1/2 acre ranch.
Otherwise, a Mesh system is very consumer friendly and easy to setup. I'm a huge fan of Ubiquiti right now but TP-Link is runner up at 2nd for me.

If you have to stay with Optimum I would spend $110 and get a Motorola Arris Surfboard DOCIS 3.0 modem and a TP-Link router. Pays for itself in less than a year in savings for your rental fees.

Here ya go. Don’t get caught.
I'd highly recommend getting one from Amazon and keeping it in your car. Gas stations are an option but half the time they're broken, you won't have quarters for it, or it doesn't have a gauge built in. I bought this one and it's come in handy a few times.
People with lots that are anything less than 1 acre are throwing money in to the wind when they try and bug-proof their little lawns. You could salt the earth and make completely sterile all the land on your property and you'll still have to endure all the bugs from your neighbor's property. It would make a slight impact on the number of bugs you deal with, but at a great cost in terms of money and health risk.
I suggest putting up some 'Rescue' fly traps which work fantastically well in my experience. Keeping your grass cut low at all times will keep the ticks down as they have no cover against their predators. Putting up some hummingbird feeders works a treat in keeping the mosquitos down. Encouraging a population of birds to hang out around your property is the best 24/7 exterminator for a small lot.

Get you something like this: https://www.amazon.com/Handsfree-Bluetooth-Transmitter-Compatible-Smartphones/dp/B01M0SFMIH It is $16 you can have it by tomorrow. You hook it to the blue tooth on your phone, then tune your radio to where it tells you. Now all your music from your phone comes out your truck speakers. Used something like this for years until I replaced my radio. LOL

Yeah, I did. Used this stuff for the first time last year:
I got around 3 treatments from one bottle and didn’t notice any more or less mosquitoes compared to prior years with Mosquito Joe, so I feel like it was worth doing on my own.

Heard great things about this guy, and there is currently a groupon for him
He does stuff on the golf channel, and my buddy who used him went from a 110+ player to upper 80s, lower 90s in one year and a lot of practice

This Cold Spring Harbor state park trail has some really steep parts. I use that app (alltrails) and I think you might be able to sort by elevation.
Current events notwithstanding, space heaters are pretty safe and OP needs to get one. Go for an infrared one. It's cool to the touch and turns off if tipped. For peace of mind test your smoke alarms. Turn on your oven, open the curtains during the day and close them at night, run appliances (clothes dryer, dishwasher if you have them) at night. Get a dog to sleep with. Put electric heat in the deal breaker list for the next place. Every bit helps and in this weather you need to pull out all the stops.

Oddly enough, most people don't know that your credit score affects your premiums quite a bit. My wife (girlfriend at the time) was paying over $100 more a month than me for almost identical coverage with the same carrier (Geico) on a similar car, and she had a spotless DMV record while I had one speeding ticket still on my record. But my credit score was much better than hers at the time. I added her to my existing policy and we saved over $150/mo combined between my credit and a multiple vehicle policy. Well, plug in a PC or laptop via ethernet cable to the ONT, run a speedtest (fast.com) see what speeds you get fist. Then, from Windows you can do something like type "run" from the start menu, then type "cmd" and hit enter.
When the cmd prompt window opens, type "ping google.com -t" to run a continuous ping. If you see it replying, the connection is up. If it says "no reply", your connection dropped

Considering how important it is nowadays to speak a second and third world language, I would not call it a waste of brain space at all. It helps with job opportunities, exposure to new cultures, social, and many more reasons for knowing additional languages. Helps with brain development as well as intelligence.

In Long Island, it is not used much depending on the parts you go to. I just find it annoying when mentioning other types of food interests aside from Italian, Bagels and Bar foods, get called "exotic" for trying new things. lol

In regards to formal schooling, I wouldn't put much emphasis as much as someone who is born here and speaks poor English, gets by. By that, the majority of Spanish speaking classes teach in a Castilian type of speech pronunciation and grammar in which can offset the listener who either comes from another Latin \ South American country with different grammar\dialects. Or sound a being pretentious when speaking to someone who likes using "two-dollar" words to explain something that can be said directly, with the common folk I think.

Maybe a Meetup.com type of environment would be good to practice.

I am in the same boat looking to learn Italian but grew up with Hispanic descent. Good thing all the Latin languages (French, Spanish, Italian) have similarities. ;)

I've been using my own modem(SB6183), cable card adapter (HD Homerun Prime) and router(Linksys WRT AC1900) with Cat7 hardwired 2PCs, 1Android TV, 1Chromecast set up for years with minimal issues, and the issues I have had are outdoor wires getting knocked loose and splitters going bad(it happens).
I don't pay any fee for hardware aside from $2 per month for the cable card.
There are a few things any optimum customer can do to ensure they have the best connection with their own hardware.
Contact them via chat, if your internet is down, you can connect via your phone data. They can find out info very fast to confirm issues on their network.
Ask them to test the packet loss, network utilization, signal strength and modem ping test.
If everything is within parameters, then your network cables could be bad, your router may not be configured correctly, overheating, or you are having wifi issues(use an app like
WiFi Analyzer on your phone to confirm signal strength and congestion on the channel your router uses).
Use https://www.speedtest.net/ and make sure your speeds match the plan you have subcribed to.
I pay for 100mbps/35mbps down.
These are my results as of right now.
https://www.speedtest.net/result/8545136895
Runs like clockwork everyday unless there was work in the area.
If you ever need someone to come on site to check/run wire, ask for an in-house tech and not the sub contractor guys. I've found most to do sloppy half assed work.
Also use best practices when placing your network hardware. Make sure it can breathe, many routers don't have fans and should, overheating shortens both life and performance of the hardware.
There is a browser extension called HTTPS everywhere that you can install. I use it on Chrome and Firefox. It doesn't do anything crazy, I think it just automatically redirects you to the https version of a site if it is available.

We just did a night in Montaulk last month. We stayed at the Ocean Beach Resort. It was nice. We got the pre-season rates though. They seemed flexible on the rates. It never hurts to ask.
I suggest using Waze. It has never been inaccurate when it comes telling me what the fastest route is in real time. It's a peer to peer navigation app so I find it to even be more accurate than google maps with traffic.
1) Subscribe to a free VPN servie if you don't use one already. 2) Change your computer's time zone to GMT/UK 3) Log into the VPN and switch to a server based in Great Britain 4) Download the BBC iPlayer: https://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/install 5) See what time the BBCi is broadcasting rugby: https://www.bbc.com/sport/live-guide
NoScript is great in general. Webpages load much faster when 485 marketing and advertising companies don't get to run javascript on your machine.

Good luck finding one. Usually sells outs during fall.
Anybody had any luck with a mosquito trap? I was thinking about buying one for next year so I can actually use my backyard.

The "go paddling" app is great for finding new spots for kayaking. It puts markers on a map, pock the one you want. And it gives you all the info as far as parking, launch fees (if any), & experience level.

Here's the part. If you want, I'll try to fix it, I have a pinpoint soldering iron. I'm a senior electronics engineering technician, with 30 years experience. I will do it for free. That does come with a caveot. If replacing the HDMI port does not fix your Playstation, I don't want to be held responsible.
I got one of these: Amazon link. I suction cupped it to the windshield, "behind" the mirror where it's out of my sight. Recommended.
I have 900 sq.ft to be cooled. I'm in the north east. I believe I need 18000 BTU. I've mostly been looking at systems like this : (24k btu version)

I just noticed that Amazon does offer a $1600 install service in my area. That sounds pretty great, so I might need to do that. Probably not the same quality as the more guys but it's a lot less.
Not that i have ever seen but if there was a coffee shop that a makes it, odds are they are using one of these two syrups.

this is what people around by me carry. if it hasn't bit yet and is still crawling around, you can flick it off. if it's already latched, you use the tool or grab it as close to the head as possible with tweezers and pull it straight out
