My wife met Maria, and almost lost her shit. This was at the ALA convention in San Francisco where Maria announced she was retiring (about 20 minutes after this photo was taken), and the ALA tweeted it without realizing they were breaking the story. So that was a fun time at the office.
I'm a huge fan of the Outshot on Bullseye, but Overheards are in a very, very close second place. This week's "Is it time? Is it time now? STEVE URKELL TIME!" was amazing. I hope one day my future children are that cool.
Jesse's Whit Stillman reference reminded me that he had a pilot on Amazon that navigated similar territory called "The Cosmopolitans." Despite it being an Amazon Studios production, you cannot watch it on Amazon.
City of Remnants is super fun, too, and somehow manages to work while packing in a TON of different game mechanics (deckbuilding, auction, area control/tactical combat, and produce-and-harvest, just to name a few).
There's a really neat Community Picks page where people can post their favorite episode of any MaxFun podcast. I recommended Oh No Ross & Carrie's Rythmia series, which is, admittedly, 13 parts, which sounds like a bit of a stretch for newbies but it's their best investigation, IMO. I listened to it week by week but it would make a great binge.
/u/daveshumka! I used to live in the same mikroraion(neighborhood) as a life size statue of Sergei Bubka! Here's the trip advisor link to a good picture of it..
I always thought the giant bronze pole was cool. Also, I knew your last name was Ukrainian, but I never realized you identified as such. Molodetz! I don't miss Donetsk, but I'm horrified at what it's become. I'm more of a Kharkovchanin. Here is one, of very few pictures, of me in Donetsk
The clapping bit at the end of the show had me laughing out loud in my car.
Another fun face mask for Dave to try are the Carbonated bubble Clay Mask (link to Canadian Amazon). You put them on then they poof up with bubbles making you look very crazy.
According to JustWatch season one of Cake is on Prime Video. If that doesn't work for you piracy is your only option as I would strongly advise against going to the US right now.
Now with the Mentos song synced to the original!
Would probably be better as a youtube link with the commercial video, but I'll pass that buck along to the next Funster.
The interview with Michael Specter by Terry Gross last night was awesome! Give it a listen too.
A privacy friendly workaround I use is a fake profile and the Facebook Container extension with Firefox. Of course this violates Facebook's terms of service, but I couldn't care less about that.
Had to be. No other knife comes close.
I must take this opportunity to recommend, from one surprisingly-good-cheap-knife-enthusiast to another, this Canary cardboard knife. It's changed my life (at least, the parts of my life related to cutting up cardboard boxes).
I’m not sure what Morgan has read, but I would recommend Richard Taylor’s Metaphysics to him and/or anyone interested in an opening bid on some of the ideas discussed in this episode!

Of course if we're talking accidental Amazon 1click purchases whilst high, I have a LOT of those, but they're mostly boring. Except these
You don't really need an "investment" in smart bulbs. I have something very similar to this in my 700 sq. ft. apartment. I paid about $30 for mine. My only windows are North-facing, so it's not ideal plant lighting, and I have no patio or outdoor space. We have a few plants on the windowsill, but the rest are grouped in a corner of the living room under the lamp referenced above. It came not just with a timer but a remote! You can set it for 4, 8, or 12 hours per day. I have it set to come on at 7AM for 12 hours. We are planning to get a 2nd one for the bedroom and group plants under it there. 7AM to 7PM doesn't interrupt our sleep since we wake up before 7AM for work. If the timer somehow fails, you can keep the remote by the bed to shut it off at bedtime. (My spouse is 100% in favor of all of this. We planned it together.)
For all you Jean-Claude Van Damme fans, Jean-Claude stars in Jean-Claude Van Johnson. One of the funniest comedies I've seen in a long time. It's only 6 episodes. Watch it now on Amazon Prime Video.

I identify with Dave's puzzle woes so hard. My wife bought this puzzle last year and we had it on the dining table for 6 fucking months. It had so many fucking pieces and they were all the same - no differentiation, no odd pieces, just fucking slightly wider or slightly taller. Fucking nightmare, never again.
Treehouse of Horror III aired as the fifth episode of season four, and as usual, the last episode produced during the previous production season due to the crazy nature of the stories. It aired on October 29, 1992!
In this episode, the Simpsons are having a Halloween party inviting the neighborhood kids over for a night of fun, mischief, and storytelling.
Clown without Pity- Bart tells a parody of movies like Child's Play, Gremlins, and that episode of the Twilight Zone. Dan Castellaneta pulls double duty as Homer and the Krusty Doll designed to kill him.
King Homer- Grandpa Simpson takes the reins and discusses this remake of the 1933 film.
Dial Z for Zombies- Bart tries to get out of writing a book report and decides to dabble in the dark arts.
A very memorable episode as usual, I'm not sure who would get the department stores references.
There was this show back in the day called Audiocrush. It was my gateway into podcasts. It still holds up. One of the guys recently revamped the site and put some of the episodes back up. If they could be convinced to get back together, I would die.
EDIT: The original link didn't have working episode links so here is a link to the archives.
Have you checked out Mastodon? https://joinmastodon.org/
I just listened to a lecture with Ethan Zuckerman who talked about how to build a better social media. Check out what he has to say about it: https://publicspaces.net/2021/07/30/an-envisioned-future-of-social-media-by-ethan-zuckerman/
This seems right up Maxfun’s ally.
There was a very similar game to this I played as a kid called Crosscountry Canada, where you trucked goods around Canada. Occasionally you could pick up a hitchhiker, but about half the time they robbed you.
Every Friday, five songs will be handpicked by me and a few special guests and recommended to you, with links to buy the tracks right from your inbox!

If you are thinking of a game you like and want a version that works on your PC, go to Good Old Games (gog.com)! Play the thing you actually wanted without mucking about with emulators and resorting to a life of crime. I hope this unsolicited viral marketing makes up for me always forgetting good old games exists whenever they would be relevant to my needs.

Not sure how this compares to other shows. I'm sure it still holds up pretty strongly for that time slot. I just rarely find myself interested in anything related to SNL anymore, personally.
This will never get seen by anyone, but…
I keep a stock of these in my house to give to kids to help them catch and release bugs.
Perfect for any (well, most) spiders you don’t want crawling around.
Pizza joint I worked at didn’t have those giant rocking blades. They seem cool enough.
With the rolling cutter I have at home now the blade separates from the housing and is dishwasher safe. Easy.
I use one like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Kitchy-Pizza-Cutter-Wheel-Protective/dp/B019S3W8AO/
I'm a huge proponent of Doggcatcher on Android. I've been using it for years. It does everything I need it to, and does it well.
Any other recommendations? I can only pick a classic one, the 14 Amazons. The women of the Yang family are hellbent on avenging the men of their family who have all died in battle with the Mongolians. It's a pretty brutal movie, and don't grow to attached to your favorite Amazon.
seems like LA has so few murals to me! But then I remember that where I came from is like the most murals ever and there are mural tours and shit. My mom even wrote an essay for this book. Anyway the point is: murals are great. But that one is creepy and homely to my eye.
It's "Baby You Change Your Mind" by the Nouvellas. Link on Amazon.
The Nouvella's Bandcamp.
(I think I made the Amazon link a MaxFun affiliate one.)
Oh goodness, Rachel Bloom is a delight.
For the Lady Problem listener (if she's out there), the advice about weight loss being 90% food was spot on. I am active like a madperson, but I've had a lot of trouble losing weight without managing my food. I recommend starting with a few small, manageable habits that you can carry on for life.
I started writing down everything I ate in a food journal and it totally changed my game. Getting protein at every meal and taking >15 minutes to eat a meal helps as well.
I highly recommend Fat Loss Happens on Monday: http://www.amazon.com/Fat-Loss-Happens-Monday-Habit-Based-ebook/dp/B00PKPTRWM/
MBMBAM's older closer, redux:
SONG: Your Part (Pt. 2) (“Keep your heart three stacks/sleestaks”)
ARTIST: Girl Talk
ALBUM: Feed the Animals

AHHHH! I forgot Still Buffering! It's "Baby You Change Your Mind" by the Nouvellas. Link on Amazon.
The Nouvella's Bandcamp.
Good call, alternately if one likes that but wants a slightly less hiking/work boot look, a casual chukka like a Clark's DB (Originals only pls, no Bushacre) achieves a similar effect...
For Jesse (and anyone else needing to buy books for kids as gifts), my personal favorite is Read-Aloud Rhymes for the Very Young.
http://www.amazon.com/Read-Aloud-Rhymes-Very-Young-Prelutsky/dp/0394872185
Curated by founding childrens poet laureate Jack Prelutsky, and illustrated by Marc "Arthur the Aardvark" Brown, I went nuts for this book as a two year old when I got it as a big brother present, and when I dug it up as friends started having kids, I was delighted to find that it totally holds up. Short rhymes, funny pictures, enough variety to make repetition bearable.
I get it as a new baby gift for people, figuring that just like with clothes, new parents need some stuff for their kids to grow into.
