I may be wrong because I'm going from memory, but if I remember correctly, there was a huge crime perception problem (e.g. the same thing that happened with the Mall of Memphis). Once Tower Records went out of business nationally (which, IIRC, caused the Peabody Place store to close), the idea that the mall was further going downhill spread. It was rumored that kids were constantly running around unsupervised, lots of loitering, etc. I remember they put in a "code of conduct" that specifically targeted black Memphians, and places started leaving when attendance and sales went down considerably.
You can also read some local commentary about the closures here on TripAdvisor, believe it or not.
Go do this too OP:

According to some of my friends that have been running the Wolf River trails for over 25 years, it used to go all the way to Collierville Arlington. Parts would get a bit shiggy, but would clear up a little way down the trial.
agreed -- I couldn't hook up my fpv to ensure good shots and I was a little distracted. Youtube drops it down in quality, but here's a vimeo that's a bit better. I didn't have the luxury of time to run it through Davinci Resolve and Premeire, but thanks for demanding quality despite the tragedy.
Chik-Fil-A is your best bet, like /u/shadowflame46 said. My sister worked there when she was about that age (and now she's old enough to be your mom, for what it's worth).
Another thing to consider (especially since you don't have a car yet) is Amazon's mechanical turk. I've only played around with it, but my understanding is that it's a way to work from home: https://www.mturk.com/mturk/welcome
If you haven't already, be sure to post on your neighbourhood's Next Door and Lost and Found Pets of the MidSouth. Best of luck.
Majestic Ashlar Hall. Like Memphis it's largely inscrutable to outsiders. It's known to be haunted as well as cursed by its previous owner. No subsequent owner has been able to do anything with the building; there plans go to rot - such is the ferocity of that madman's ill will!
It was Dr. R.B. Maury Elementary School that was apparently located at 272 North Bellevue Blvd. I'll see if I can find more info and add it in an edit if I do.
Edit: Built in 1908, active until 1992, demolished in 1997. Here's a Memphis Heritage page about it. And here's a thread on Ancestry.com with people who attended school there.
My husband and I love road trips. Arkansas was pretty in the fall: www.arkansas.com/travel-tools/fall/ Also I found this, which discusses fall foliage between Memphis and Nashville. http://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowTopic-g55229-i154-k7630707-Fall_Foliage_Sightseeing_between_Memphis_and_Nashville-Nashville_Tennessee.html
Besides this one obviously I'm guessing. We do have a Reddit meetup on June 9th at Rec Room coming up. Thread is stickied at the top. Meetup.com also has several Memphis based groups.
Try something like Skimmer Scanner. A lot of skimmers are using bluetooth now to transmit the skimmed data. I'm sure it won't catch 100% of the skimmers out there, but it's something.
South of Peabody is not the same thing as south of The Peabody.
A face to face conversation isn't the same thing as a message board conversation where a person has invited comments from many people. And if you were telling someone in the mall that the Rendezvous was in Arlington, I might very well step in and say that it's downtown. But that's not what I did. I just pointed out that the OP may not be looking for a place like Dabbles given that they used the term barber shop, indicating that the conversation as a whole (since you know, you aren't the only person participating in, or who might participate in the conversation) might be better served by discussing those sorts of establishments. But you know, that's like my opinion, man.
People are bound to disagree with you on the internet. It happens.
The intersection of Cooper and Young.
If you're not seeing tattoos a-plenty here in town then you're hanging out at the wrong bars (or not hanging out a bars at all).
There are a couple of tattoo parlors over there near the UofM, and a few more not far away in midtown. They wouldn't be there if they weren't making a buck or two.
I would steer clear of Hotels and do an air BnB. you can get A LOT for $160.
If you really want to experience the city I'd get off Beale and stay in the Overton Square / Midtown area.
here you go <----- link (formatting not showing up for some reason.)
My parents own two of the ones in that list and they're both really nice. YOu'll get a better feel for the city and generally in my experience be able to get a feel for the city using Air BnB
as far as stuff to do I'd have to know what your in to. A good resource to start is the Memphis Flyer online. They have a pretty comprehensive list of the goings on in the city. Try and eat at Gus' and BBQ shop or Central BBQ will be really consistent.
The Stax museum is cool as well as Sun studio.
I have one of those and I'd recommend complementing it with an ice scraper because of the plastic bucket. You can hit ice layer straight down to cut it in "tiles", then scrape it or pick it up with the shovel.
I have always purchased them from Great China Market on Summer Avenue near the corner of White Station. I personally like the white lotus seed cakes & though I don't know the brand names they carry, one I am familiar with is Kee Wah. They also sell the Kee Wah cakes through Amazon.
A small bookclub will be meeting at Republic Coffee at 8 pm on August 11th to discuss Marie Kondo's The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up. Anyone is welcome! After this meet up we'll focus on works of fiction.
I check the modqueue several times a day to check reports and things caught in the spam filter. I have an ifttt rule set up to notify me on my phone of new posts to /r/memphis so I can at least have an idea of what all is going on. I come directly to /r/memphis less often than modqueue, but at least once or twice most days unless there's something interesting that I'm following more closely, but I do try to hit /r/memphis/new and /r/memphis/comments when I do to see if there's anything I'm missing.
I mostly use Sync on mobile these days, and it has okay mod features (modqueue, approve/remove things, flair posts). I haven't found an app that has great mod features yet. Nothing comes close to what /r/toolbox offers on desktop.
Is there any early registration or a registration fee?
Im down to race! Also, I dont have a facebook so it was hard for me to get details on the facebook page. Here is an IMGUR link to the flyer if you want to add it to your post.
fine, look through years of charts yourself.

True, but he did do the weather in Huntsville, AL for a while before he came to Memphis. :)
ETA: Dude has seen some shit. He is also at least partly responsible for the elevation of weather reports to drinking games due to his recommendation for "wall to wall" coverage. https://www.linkedin.com/pub/tim-simpson/29/70a/714
Because people are very ignorant about how weather is reported and what it actually means. The % are meant to describe rain coverage over an area not specifically if it will rain in your spot. You need to look at the forecast hour by hour and not some basic "50% chance of rain each day this week". Or a little icon of a rain storm on your iPhone. Too many people seem to think it's that simple.
You need to also learn how to read a radar and understand the movement of storm systems in your area.
This 10-day graph is a good way to visualize most of the information you need. https://www.wunderground.com/forecast/us/tn/memphis/KTNMEMPH99?cm_ven=localwx_10day
Have your friend try the Pilgrim House Hostel. It's in the Cooper/Young area, not far from the zoo, and I know somebody staying there already...not sure they would want me to name names here, but I will point them to this thread and see if they will be willing to discuss further. Best of luck to your friend!
My best friend has a geocache hidden at spot with some street art. Here's a link to the geocache webpage, follow the coordinates. http://www.geocaching.com/geocache/GC5F3R4_walker-the-line?guid=cf1384e7-f058-4b89-9e2d-a375a8b956ad
Hello, have you tried Airbnb.com? I stayed at the 'FEMA Guesthouse' hosted by Chere. Cure little detached guesthouse that has a private loft, bathroom, kitchen, and fully furnished. Chere's a super nice lady who will probably make you a good deal on a long-term stay. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/138036
I would stay at that holiday inn before I stayed near the airport. That would be my absolute last option.
AirBNB has an apartment in downtown memphis and a few guest rooms in CY available: https://www.airbnb.com/s/memphis---tn?checkin=05%2F15%2F2014&checkout=05%2F18%2F2014&guests=2&source=bb
Something like this but not even as fancy or costly. Looks a lot better than the plastic white shelf I currently am using.
I went with the VIOFO A129 Pro Duo :
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07RXQJ148
I went with this one because it was the best value for having 4k in the front-facing camera, as well as having a rear camera also. You can get a lot nicer ones, but the price goes up fast after this for what I feel is diminishing returns. You can get a really good one for cheaper if you don't have to have a rear-facing camera, but in Memphis I want that angle covered as well for traffic accidents (and for some great general Memphis footage).
I ordered this one from Amazon and it worked for me.

There's also a free version. It's my go-to weather app. Simple but useful data display and easy to use animated radar (the scrubber that you can actually scrub is my favorite part).
It also helps to try and figure out what may be the cause of your pain. Do you rotate wearing various types and styles of shoes through the week? Does your beds box spring have any broken or misaligned areas? If so it may be time to replace it. Do you put your wallet in your back pocket and sit on it through out the day?...I would most certainly check all three of these. Also, if you haven't heard of a shiatsu pillow, it will change your life. Do not get the one that just vibrates, get the one that rotates like this one: https://www.amazon.com/Shoulder-Massager-Kneading-Electric-Spa-Like/dp/B09ZV8ZKXB/ref=asc_df_B09ZV8ZKXB/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=598274566537&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=5752682485277520491&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqm...

You've got the right idea, though.
Installing a power cutoff switch, which costs only a couple dollars and can be installed in like 10 minutes, would stop most thieves from driving off in your shit.
I've heard good things about Paggio's.
I remember getting a notification years ago that there was a data breach on their website from haveibeenpwned.com, but I can't find the paste or anything about it anymore
I bought an antenna but someone told me I needed an “amplifier” to get channel 5 because it’s on a different frequency. I bought this jobby on Amazon. I get 61 channels now.

I'm thinking about buying a couple different kinds and blasting them at my Mom's in the county and see what happens.
I spray the exterior of the house quarterly with Talstar-P, especially around the entry areas. 1 or 2 flies get in on rare occasions, but it has really kept them away!
I put out 3 of these things every 6 weeks or so in the warm months, they end up catching over 1000 flies each, so that helps too!

Ok so that person was literally mad at you for exercising your dog? Wtf how bizarre. I use Lupine Pet harnesses for my pups but I don’t think they would be suited to running/jogging. I think something like this would be better. I’m only linking Amazon because their returns policy is so easy, if it doesn’t fit you can send it back no questions asked. I would also call Hollywood Feed and ask if they have any recommendations specifically for a running harness. They are more knowledgeable than other pet supply stores in memphis. They will likely have trainer recommendations as well. I am wishing you good luck with this process! I understand your struggles, I am on the spectrum and have severe anxiety/panic disorder and my dogs are a lifesaver. <3
You could probably do it, I don't think you need attic access. You should be able to run the cables along the wall, they make a plastic rectangular tube that you can push wire through, just run it along the corners to make it look flush.
Mount the speakers on studs near the ceiling.
This is the stuff I'm talking about.
I'll second this. The "chrome" jacket on their lugs swells and will require a special 19.5mm socket to remove. Be proactive and order some 19mm lug nuts for your Ford from Amazon. I think mine cost $30 for all 20.

You really have to tell people what you're into to get good recommendations. I have friends into climbing and they hang out at Memrox. I know people who hang out at coffee shops like avenue coffee.
Check out meetup.com and see if a group there meets your interests.
Are you religious? church is big here.
I wear a cloth mask with a pocket and insert these filters into them.
The filters have an efficiency of 95%. I agree that any mask is better than none. But some masks are just better than others.
There is a groupon for discounted admission to the Belz Museum, metal museum, and some other local attractions. Check it out before you go!
My first thought was this trail if you want to trek out to Shelby Forest. This hike kicked my butt! It’s called the Woodland Trail, lots of impressive hills, plus it’s not usually crowded and very pretty. If You go while still hot out use bug spray for mosquitoes and ticks. https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/tennessee/woodland-trail-loop--2
There is a very nice boardwalk out by the Ghost River section near La Grange (historical old pre-cival war homes out there, too). its about 25 minutes down I-40 Ghost River Mineral Slough https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/tennessee/ghost-river-mineral-slough-boardwalk
It hangs in the lobby of The Exchange Club Family Center, if you're curious or happen to have an explanation for this fuckin thing. Is that supposed to be a wrapped present tucked under his arm?

Across the USA people are reporting more fireworks than usual this month, but there’s little data on how widespread this is. I'm helping to create a map and learn more about what's going on with these fireworks. Please fill out and share THIS survey. Map is HERE and being updated daily as new data comes in.
I bought one of these the other day, haven't tried them yet, so can't actually recommend them, but seemed like a pretty decent deal for onsite interior and exterior detail:
My friend bet me I couldn't break into his place after he got his a few years ago. I got in and took his keypad as proof.
I 2nd BiggClay on the camera & motion sensors. I suggest you find a system that doesn't lock you into a subscription service AND you can download a proven secure app like ZoneMinder.
<strong>Here is the exact clip</strong> of what Paltrow's character says about Memphis, courtesy of Hulu (note: ~90 second clip, but the Memphis part is in the first 30 seconds)
East Memphis. if you are on Nextdoor.com check out the Waynoka area. Rentals can be found on there, too. Short drive to UofM. Splits the difference between Downtown & Germantown.
I prefer something that's of a spicy, woody smell. The most recent candle was from "Archipelago Botanicals" on Amazon; smoked cedarwood, bergamot, and amber. Another one was Bergamot, Tobacco, and "Flower". They are as close to a manly candle without covering my whole room in aftershave.

My yard gets hit by moles/voles every 2-3 years. This year it was mass attack on my yard. To the point there were so many tunnels, it would rain and my yard was walking on a sponge. (Yet not drowning the critters).
I have tried Grub-X (Lowes) one year and it seemed to work, but expensive. I've tried poison peanuts in the past, don't think they had any affect. I tried several of the poison smoke bombs this year. 2 of the 3 areas stopped. Then I got 3 of these: Victor M9015 Easy-to-Set Deadset Mole Trap https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07KMWZQYS/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_BEAG7JTDD5J107WSW3W7?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Very happy with it for the price, running the wires took some time but wasn't hard. Has an app to view by phone. Day video is great and night vision is good.
Off Leash K9 did wonders for our pups. We had one that was extremely reactive to any and all other dogs, and now they have been able to successfully interact with other dogs as well as enjoy stress free walks. In the meantime, have you considered a muzzle for your pup? I'm going to post what we were recommended, but it should be implemented under the supervision of a trainer.
And this is the video we were given to introduce the muzzle to our dog. It takes a couple of days to weeks for them to adjust, and reward based association really helped our dog become comfortable with it.
Maybe lensrentals?

I have it connected in my attic with a splitter to all my TVs. I receive all the over the air channels. It works really well.
I've used this one for several years now without issues. The big caveat is what the other poster mentioned - Location is important. I've been in Midtown, East Memphis and Germantown with this thing and it still worked. Other places could have worse reception...
I got this one from Amazon about six months ago and I get tons of stations I didn't even know where on air. amazon.com/dp/B006YVFGAS I'm in G'town, and it's on the first floor at the back of the house, but it has no problem picking up everything. (There may be a newer version of this model; it was recommended by some site like Wired or Gizmodo.)
i have a Yi Nightscape. It has a super-capacitor, which is better for hot climates. About $70 on Amazon. Works well for me.

I buy mine on Amazon. They're cheap and come rolled up and expand into a totally normal mattress. Not sure what price point you're looking at, but for $140 this is pretty decent.
If you have Android, I've used Weather Timeline for the past couple years. You can filter its alerts to your preferences, so you don't miss that tornado amid a pile of flood warnings.
Best $1.50 I've ever spent, it has great aesthetics.
Not local like you want but I got this one on sale at Amazon in March of 2016 and still love it. Queen size for $495 and 10yr warranty. They go on sale every so often. When I get a bigger bed I will be getting a king from this brand. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00QSEK2Y6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_cwgwBbEE87B04

Hello fellow furry dog owner. My dog sheds too. I found that adding one of these to my car helps alot. They are super easy to take in and out.
I'm a big fan of Proraso products myself. They are easy to lather, smell great, and last a long time. I've had my most recent tube for over 6 months. They do make a soap for sensitive skin here. It's also available in a tube if you prefer that. You might could try Sephora in the mall as well. Supposedly they sell some decent shave soaps but I've never checked myself. Hopefully that helps you out! :)
That's very weird. I've never seen that connector type (mine is for sure the standard power connector, dual G5).
Anyway, looked it up and it's a high current power cable connector type called C19. Here's one:
