9/11 truthers aren't saying necessarily that bush was responsible. (Operation Northwoods, gulf of tonken, USS Liberty.) But merely that the circumstances around 9/11 are fucked beyond comprehension. (Undamaged passports in the rubble used to identify pilots. Pentagon plane reduced to fragments and taken away by hand. Freefall speed. Building 7. We invaded Iraq/Afghanistan over the actions of Saudi funded Saudi led terrorists and then covered up Saudi involvement. The fact that the countries that were invaded coincide with the oil pipelines proposed to get crude from the Gulf into the Mediterranean while ignoring the culprits. Bush did 9/11 or steel beams are memes. The actual events were not, and have had profound repercussions ( patriot act / 60 words ) that have allowed the USA to engage in endless wars in the middle East without once requiring Congress to vote on it. All the military action has been done through executive action. Drone strikes to full scale invasions. 9/11 could have been an inside job, or not, but the results were clearly orchestrated to take advantage of the chaos as a ladder to secure more power onto fewer hands. And of you question that transfer of power you must be a tinfoil hat wearing conspiracy theorist. I'm so done with society.
I've sometimes wondered why I am a racist when I encounter these kinds of narratives.
I wonder where I went wrong when I was out in the fresh air, say chopping wood because it was fun.
I wonder how I could have gone so wrong as I am driving to work. What racism am I not aware of and should have prevented at such a moment I am thinking.
I get it that when I speak to someone who is not of my background that we're bridging some sort of divide. I listen and look for where, together, we might do something better. I know I can't be the end-all-be-all for an answer - I'm pretty much imperfect before ever meeting another human being.
Yet, I am a racist.
I wonder if I shouldn't just give in. Give in to the narrative and embrace who they say I am. Embrace that I can be a racist and not be anything more.
Funny. I thought that was what we have been taught was the whole problem in the first place as I was growing up. "Don't judge people by superficial means. Know them as a person."
I never remember my parents expressing a single opinion that I would now identify as racist, homophobic, or even class-based. I remember how expressive my father's worst moment was: he called someone a "fink". I was shocked to hear such strength in his vocabulary. I remember vowing then and there to avoid finks forever after. However, how did I end up such a poor outcome as a result?!
Who knew I was never capable of forming thoughts that weren't those of a deeply abiding racist?
Anyone for burning a cross?
By the way, where do you get one? Does Amazon provide the fuel and matches in their "People who bought a cross for burning also bought the following" ?

Essential reading. There's a playbook, and leftists have been using it for ages. Also available on Audible.
They've probably all read The Shock Doctrine and actually convinced themselves that their parents were just part of the capitalist conspiracy.
Rational, normal people wouldn't observe that the boomers screwed over the current generation and conclude that the obvious solution is to continue with those same economic policies and screw over the next generation, just because, yo dude, like, that's only fair, bro.
Of course, we are dealing with r/canadians and entitled Quebec students here, so normality and rationality went out the window a hell of a long time ago.
Good to see a Yew reference, and this quote in particular. Canada's future is one of national dissolution/disintegration; definitive dominance by one ethnic group over others, with all the attendant unfairness; or Singapore-style authoritarianism. The shiny, happy, peaceful, libertarian co-ethnic state just ain't possible here in the actual real world; in the actual world, the *only* way to keep the peace in a multi-ethnic polity is through strong-man government.
Yew's book, From Third World to First, is highly worth reading. It's close to the beginning where he frankly admits that he realized quite early on what a problem it was going to be to get ethnic Chinese, Malays, and Indians to live peacefully together.
Oh god, now I got System of a Down in my head again... -_-

They're deceived. That's all there is to get.
> These are otherwise smart folks who bought the liberal narrative hook line and sinker.
Yep. That's exactly it. People who are otherwise very intelligent have bought a train of thought that ultimately derails.
It starts with the mental masturbation of Marx, Hegel, and others. They have some incredibly dumb things to say that are wrapped up in wonderful writing.
However, in order to fully understand why that is so utterly dumb, one has to have some education in logic and first principles. That kind of education is very boring for some people, and they never get to it, or they simply ignore it.
However, there are still many, many works out there that can help dispel the illusions of Marx and the like.
Both C. S. Lewis and Karl Popper have some excellent essays on "historicism", which is what Marx and Hegel do. They're very accessible for anyone, and they outline exactly why historicism is fallacious.
Moving away from Marx a bit, Keynesian economics is another popular tenant of the left. While "Human Action" by Ludwig von Mises utterly destroys Keynesianism, the first part of it is unreadable for anyone not well versed in philosophy. The amount of knowledge one needs to fully understand it is at a minimum equivalent to an undergraduate degree. Mises works from first principles, and not knowing that will simply get the reader lost.
However, "Economics in One Lesson" by Henry Hazlitt is far easier, and goes over much of what is in "Human Action". It is sufficient to dispel the Marxist nonsense and Keynesian garbage that the left pushes in the area of economics.
But without education or thought or reflection or critical thinking, few people can escape the clutches of the Marxist deceptions that are preached in schools, universities, and in the media on a daily basis.
First of all it is Meta-Off not Off-Meta. We speak American here son.
Now, if you have difficulty arguing your beliefs you may want to think about where those beliefs come from.
I'm not going to offer you talking points on how to respond to equality vs freedom but I will offer you sources of qualified information.
Friedrich Von Hayek's The Road to Serfdom is an absolute must read for anyone advocating for limited government. The Wealth of Nations is good too but you end up reading about bushels of wheat and it can get kind of brutal. Adam Smith was a brilliant philosopher though. You can also check on youtube for a bunch of Milton Friedman videos that are terrific. He also has some phenomenal books about freedom.
The role of government is a fascinating topic and there is no conclusive right answer yet. It is best discussed in the field of Economics and most of the arguments have already been thoroughly explored.
Move to USA.
There have never been so many open U.S. jobs
>The number of job openings rose to 5.75 million
Can you imagine that in Canada? They'd all be filled by TFW. In the USA, corporations have to compete for American labour. Hence why their economy is growing, and why we are in recession.

Ali Nobil Ahmad is an interesting individual. This is his first article for The Guardian. He has however been a busy writer...
Masculinity, Sexuality, and Illegal Migration Human Smuggling from Pakistan to Europe
"Challenging the idea that labour migration is driven purely by rational economic forces, this book makes use of extensive new data to explore migration, human smuggling and illegal work. In a compelling exploration of global smuggling networks, illegal border-crossings and the subterranean world of Europe's informal economy, the author links migration to risky economic behaviour and erotic male desire."
I disagree. Mulroney was a disaster for the country. If you're wondering why there are so many visible minorities in Canada, he is to blame for the changes he brought forth in the early nineties. Mulroney was a corrupt career politician and a vain old drunk, as far as I'm concerned. I'm seeing a resemblance between him and Justin Trudeau.
Check out Stevie Cameron's controversial book "On The Take".
Not to be pedantic, but that's not psychotic/psychosis. Psychosis is:
>"a severe mental disorder in which thought and emotions are so impaired that contact is lost with external reality."
Like, if your friend thought you were an alien, and the voices in his head told to him to decapitate you and eat you, that would be psychosis. Psychosis BTW is a symptom, not an illness in itself.
What you're describing sounds like borderline personality disorder.

When you increase minimum wage we need control on food and rent. No ones quality of life increased with a jump. Your spending potential stays the same. My one complaint is that the X-axis should have been gender neutral and not just female as I think it would be better described with two x-axis eg 1.....0 %Male, and 0.....1 %Female, if you get what I mean, and also not single out women as I'm sure many would interpret this graph as an attack on women, and not the obvious that like water, women often choose the path of least resistance in higher education.

What's literally true, is that "radical Islam" is the exact same thing as "moderate Islam".
The saddest thing is that leftism, and especially authoritarian leftism has been debunked over and over again. When one's entire reality is based on a fallacious construct it's hard to get him/her to accept the nose on his/her face.
Chavez utterly ruined Venezuela. I remember how excited everyone was in the early 2000s that Venezuela was finally going to throw off the shackles of "corrupt capitalism" (which provided a very high standard of living), and become a workers paradise, only to become a place where you need to import toilet paper.
Same can be said for the former Soviet Union. Have you ever noticed how few people who actually lived in the USSR want socialism? When you've felt the hunger of chronic mismanagement, the free market looks better.
The funniest argument I ever heard was that Hitler was right wing because the economy actually did well under his brand of socialism. It was almost a tacit admittance that socialism is by default terrible for the economy.
When one looks at governmental systems as a whole, and wealth generation specifically, it's clear that allowing citizens the right to take risk and be rewarded for that risk ends up being a net positive (the only source of positive to be more specific). This isn't new as it was first posited by Adam Smith, but apparently "reality has a left wing bias" so no one pays attention. Our unionized school teachers have almost ensured that no one reads The Wealth of Nations, as it would debunk the central argument of their collective organization.
It almost makes me angry enough to home school my kids.

No, not every social and educational influence is brainwashing. Marketing does trend heavily toward manipulative content, especially when it comes from large and powerful companies; there's a lot to say about the brainwashy underpinnings of the overton window; and a lot of other social influences can be detrimental as well, but brainwashing has a specific definition. Brainwashing is the most extreme, limiting and top-down means of attempting thought control, and its methods include but are not limited to the exertion of social influence. Other means of education, misinformation and manipulation, which you are lumping in with brainwashing, can be positive, and where they are not, they still allow for the individual to exercize critical thinking and free choice in response to outside influence.

Sigh, no, of course not. "Cultural appropriation: the act of taking or using things from a culture that is not your own, especially without showing that you understand or respect this culture." (source: Cambridge dictionary). The orthography was, as I understand it, based on the North American Phonetic Alphabet, initiated by settler linguists, and adopted by local (Musqueam and Squamish) linguists. The settlers offered it. From everything I read from indigenous linguists, they understand and respect the orthography and its intended role in representing spoken sounds accurately.

Another current hot button "trigger" issue is the criticism of the unfettered and sudden mass migration by islam into western countries, a group of people we've been in a virulent blood feud with for over 1,000 years. Criticizing islam does not count as something "racist" as we're fighting neither a race nor a religion. I think Valenti is much more toxic than myself. She has a child and wrote a book about why parenting sucks...
Imagine being a child and your parent authored a book about why having children sucks. I would never do something like that. I think that is horrible.
Amazon review:
> Although it's great to hear about all of the misnomers of motherhood and things that really aren't as awesome as they seem, the book did not offer anything from the perspective of the joys and benefits of having children.
Come on, man. I'm the toxic one right? OK, then.
Edit: for grammar and link to book reviews on Amazon nothing about glasses
Ya, that's what the post-truth and pro-propaganda people say.
Some of us are still fighting for a world in which facts exist.
Be careful what you ask for, because you might get it.
> You just confirmed your attitude that you are in the right before you even begin.
That's how debate works. You have to start with a position. Sure, I always do it confidently and clearly sourced... but honestly a home run is when I find someone smarter than I am who can teach me things about the subject that I didn't know. It happens and it's happened here.
> This schtick is getting pretty old don't you think?
Long as I'm still learning, it'll stay fresh for me... and the only place you can really learn is outside the echo chambers.
The people who stick to echo chamber circle jerks just get their biases and blind spots reinforced until they disappear into a post-factual world (not coincidentally, almost the name of the interesting book I'm just starting). Not my thing.
That sound you hear is the urine stream from Harper and his Conservative party and voters pissing on the graves of brave, dead Canadian soldiers who fought against the tyranny of having to pay $5 a month for unblock-us, or find another VPN, or use TunnelBear. Damn you Harper. You are the monster of the ages, the Grendel's Mom of Generation Y.
> he's still a xenophobe like you and
Going out on a tangent lol. And you have no citation . Classy.
"he decided to make a fake party for imbeciles to be able to point the finger at." Dude is a prison convert. The fact the Ontario allowed this party to take up shop in Ontario shows us they are taking us back to the stone age. The good folks of r/metacanada, are promoters of science and high learning. We denounce such activity taking place in Canada.
Also if you know how to read , read the below https://www.amazon.com/SUBMISSION-Danger-Political-Warning-America/dp/099522353X https://www.actforcanada.ca/l/letter-to-rcmp-from-terrorism-expert-tom-quiggin/ Any mouthbreathing moron can make the connection . Are you projecting your bi polarism onto others?
It’s actually more than $20 because it could take multiple shots.
Still... the ambulance uses Narcan anyways then takes them to the ER for more Narcan.
It would save taxpayers the hospital costs.
And it just needs to be readily available for private purchase as well.
And idiot users need to pay the 16.99 on Amazon and save their own lives.
I think this is where social conservatives piss people off when you think spending $20 to save a life and hundreds on an ER visit isn’t worth. That’s just fucking ridiculous.
She could probably argue it's a tool for cutting clay

However she'll have to explain why she was in possession of it at a protest. Intent are everything when it comes to weapons laws in Canada.
> Yes, and the older I get it seems to me that democracy itself, in the form that we have it, isn't really taking us in a very positive direction.
You might enjoy a book by Hans-Hermann Hoppe called "Democracy: The God That Failed".
> I think it was Socrates that said of democracy that it will end up ultimately in a situation where people just vote themselves handouts and excesses and the hard decisions are never made for fear of losing an election, which seems to be what has landed us in the situation we are in.
Socrates or Hoppe or whoever, it's right. And we've got a horrible mess now.
> Thank you for the information and the links. I will certainly be looking deeper into the Libertarian Party, and their ideas such as anarcho-capitalism.
If you can take the shit-slinging in some subs, check out /r/Anarcho_Capitalism, /r/GoldAndBlack, and /r/austrian_economics/.

Lots of free books there. "Economics in One Lesson" is a great starter, and a real eye-opener.
> I know embarrassingly little about these concepts and will certainly educate myself.
Everyone is at that point to start. I spent many, many years in ignorance, insisting that I didn't like any of the parties or their crap. Then I discovered Austrian Economics and libertarianism, and realized that I wasn't the only person in the world that thought that way.
> Thank you for taking the time to respond.
My pleasure! It's always great to have an actual discussion in good faith on Reddit, even though they're pretty rare.
> Can anyone compete with it?
Lol? If the work is menial and requires labour within Canada then you've already won, as outsourcing is not feasible for most jobs. Get some skill and you'll generally be OK, but there are always exceptions (e.g. IT).
The supposed merits of protectionism were thoroughly debunked in Adam Smith's The Wealth of Nations...which was published in 1776. It's not the government's role to restrict comparative advantage and protect a special few, but that doesn't stop them from doing so.
That's a quick summary, so nice & easy.
Economics in One Lesson is a more thorough approach, but still accessible and relatively quick to get through compared to other more exhaustive volumes, e.g. Human Action by Ludwig von Mises.
That thread is an economists nightmare. Economics as a profession is nearly unanimous in its support of free trade. Protectionism was pretty clearly defeated by Adam Smith in The Wealth of Nations in 1771 and then totally demolished by David Ricardo in 1817 with his writing on comparative advantage.
R/canada is literally 200 years behind economic literature.
>What is it with atheists and the need to belittle anyone who believes in a god?
Because you believe in something that has ZERO proof. Its like believing in unicorns or Icelandic elves.
>they all preach responsibility for your own actions and trying to be a better person.
You don't require religion for that, religion historically has done more harm than good
It's not just because of the champagne socialists and substitute drama teachers, I do think Canadians have protectionist leanings. Not only that, I think they're quite bluntly incompetent at doing international business and more than at a government level, but at a systemic societal level. There's a book on this subject of Canadian incompetence at exporting goods at the world stage, Why Mexicans Don't Drink Molson. Canadians I think don't really have this ambition or savvy people in other countries have in regards to setting up not just a business, but an international empire.
If you allow foreign investment in your country, you need to make an equal investment in other countries otherwise foreigners will just start bleeding money out of the economy. Since Canadians are incompetent at foreign investment, we invest less in China than other countries do for example. Despite the fact we import many many goods from China and an investment there would allow us to buy from ourselves. So, I think this incompetence leads us to rather develop business ties with other countries with mutual investment, we adopt protectionist attitudes that destroy business investment in Canada. This not only stagnates Canada, it causes us to miss out on a piece of the pie when it comes to stuff like the massive economic rise of China.
I'm not saying the champagne socialists and substitute drama teachers are not a problem. I'm saying the problem is a lot more deeply rooted than that.
> The baby boomers ruined things, they never spilled blood for the country in the two world wars like their parents and grandparents but took all the rewards and all from generations that follow. They never taught responsibilty to generations that followed. (Look at the welfare state and how it has grown with boomer spawn)
Did you read this by chance?
https://www.amazon.ca/Generation-Sociopaths-Boomers-Betrayed-America/dp/0316395781
I just read this book https://www.amazon.ca/Generation-Sociopaths-Boomers-Betrayed-America/dp/0316395781
that goes into how the Boomers repeatedly implemented policy that benefited themselves, often at the expense of others and the infrastructure they inherited.
If you haven't read it, this book touches on some interesting aspects leading up to and after World War 2, and how horrible Japan was

I started reading this book
Gold Warriors: America's Secret Recovery of Yamashita's Gold
Which goes into the dirty shit Japan was doing at the beginning of the century. Utterly plundering Korea and Japan
Assassinated this Empress. Entered her palace, stabbed her and then burned her alive.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Empress_Myeongseong
>The courtyard where the Queen (Consort)'s wing was located was filled with Japanese, perhaps as many as 20 or 25 men. They were dressed in peculiar gowns and were armed with sabres, some of which were openly visible. ... While some Japanese troops were rummaging around in every corner of the palace and in the various annexes, others burst into the queen's wing and threw themselves upon the women they found there. ... I ... continued to observe the Japanese turning things inside out in the queen's wing. Two Japanese grabbed one of the court ladies, pulled her out of the house, and ran down the stairs dragging her along behind them. ... Moreover one of the Japanese repeatedly asked me in English, "Where is the queen? Point the queen out to us!" ... While passing by the main Throne Hall, I noticed that it was surrounded shoulder to shoulder by a wall of Japanese soldiers and officers, and Korean mandarins, but what was happening there was unknown to me.
>...
>In Japan, 56 men were charged. All were acquitted by the Hiroshima court due to a lack of evidence.
Don't know much about history, but the stories so far make the Japanese sound like a bunch of fucking animals.

>Do you think every nation should become mixed?
They were. From the get go. They were constantly mixing.
Read Churchill's History of the English Speaking People and then realize the anglos alone are a healthy mix of a dozen or so origins.
I don't feel it is virtuous or not virtuous. It is the history of humanity.
It's a game.

http://www.amazon.com/Mythology-Work-Capitalism-Persists-Despite/dp/0745334865
> There was once a time when ‘work’ was inextricably linked to survival and self-preservation; where the farmer ploughed the land so their family could eat. But the sun has long since set on this idyllic tableau, and what was once an integral part of life has slowly morphed into a painful and meaningless ritual, colonising almost every part of our lives - endless and inescapable. In The Mythology of Work, Peter Fleming examines how neoliberal society uses the ritual of work (and the threat of its denial) to maintain the late capitalist class order. As our society is transformed into a factory that never sleeps, work becomes a universal reference point for everything else, devoid of any moral or political worth. Blending critical theory with recent accounts of job related suicides, office-induced paranoia, fear of relaxation, managerial sadism and cynical corporate social responsibility campaigns, Fleming paints a bleak picture of neoliberal capitalism in which the economic and emotional dysfunctions of a society of wage slaves greatly outweigh its professed benefits.
Thing is I like Basic Income. If we actually closed down all social services and instead simply cut a check we could then cut the basic income amount and effectively kill both. We would be able to fire countless civil servants and eliminate countless moronic government departments.
