A few bits and pieces that maybe no one will ask for but could be useful:
Some of the guy's other artwork is pretty decent, but this video just doesn't do it for me. It just looks lazy compared to the other things on his youtube channel.
Plus, the song is just a rip off of This
Sure, I can't post commercials since I'm not in the production business but I've done electrical design for a few buildings downtown. Look at the electrical systems in Wainwright, 416 Boush, the Chrysler Museum.
When ours failed on us, we just put in a wireless one. So much better because you can customize volume and you have over 50 chimes to choose from.
Just trying to save you money and get a better outcome!
Have you tried using the Waze app? It allows you to see peer-reported incidents like traffic, construction, hazards and police. Obviously not foolproof but I've been using it for both daily driving and longer trips (like to DC and Baltimore) with great success. It'll even re-route you around traffic tie-ups if surface streets become the quicker option - it's saved me a couple times on I-95.
I live in Hampton. I retired from a job in Norfolk (Navy) back in 2012, and I could count on one hand the number of times I've gone over to Norfolk since then. Tunnel traffic is the main reason that I don't go. I'll attend concerts in Richmond before I'll go to the Norva because tunnel traffic sucks.
So what do you do? Yeah, leaving early is your best bet. The local libraries rent audiobooks, so if you have an aux jack on your stereo, that helps pass the time you'll spend sitting on 64 waiting for no reason. You are GOING to get stuck in that traffic, so keep a cold drink and snacks in the car. If you smoke, don't get on the highway thinking you'll just get smokes on the other side. There are always accidents and slowdowns between 3 pm and 6 pm, and 7-9 am. Then there is the tunnel cleaning crew that shuts down one lane of the tunnel every night at about 10 pm, and it doesn't open until some ungodly hour.
This app seems to be pretty accurate. If it tells you there's a slowdown, there likely is.
Welcome to Hampton Roads! Hope you enjoy your stay, it's a great place with a lot of cool things to see and do!
The Shell on Granby is pretty damn solid.
Accuweather hourly forecast for Norfolk has the highest wind gusts listed from 5am - 10am Friday.
Lots of variables still in play though so keep an eye or ear on your weather news/forecast service of choice.
I missed the last one at the Jewish Mother, so I'll definitely try to make it to this one!
If you use google calendar, here's a reminder you can throw on there!
Have you used Waze before? Strongly suggest it - it'll give you real-time reports on traffic (and suggest alt routes around congestion) as well as user reports on police locations, debris on the road, etc. Works well enough for daily commuting but it's best (IMO) for long road trips like the one you're taking.
Ninja edit: just know that it'll kill your battery and uses a ton of data, so make sure you've got a charger and aren't going to go over on data.
If you're travelling, Godspeed, and I can't recommend the Waze app strongly enough. It's good enough for daily commuting around here but on longer trips it's amazing. Just know that it chews through battery life so make sure you have a charger in the car with you.

This app really is excellent beyond the usual GPS/navigation tools - real-time reports of accidents, speed traps, traffic jams, etc. Get it, use it, spread the word.
I highly recommend Waze if you own both a smartphone and a car in Hampton Roads. It goes beyond just traditional directions/navigation and incorporates user reports to give a fuller picture and up-to-date traffic, incidents, speed traps, etc. It'll even give you an alternate route around traffic stoppages. It's not perfect (reports can be outdated, especially when it comes to police locations) and it'll kill your battery if you don't have a charger in the car.
GOV2COM is a program designed to help government defense contractors shift gears and focus on the commercial sector with their products and services.
The ODU Business Gateway is hosting a kickoff meeting next Monday at the TED Constant Center for people to get more acquainted with the program and make connections with others of like mind.
Elizabeth Dietzmann is the GOV2COM program director.
It looks like there is a Fair Grounds Coffee house and a Starbucks about a block away. There is also a Kelly's Tavern across the street, where we could ingest a bit of social lubricant instead.
I second what others have said about he makerspace.
Other than that, check out "Scratch". It's a programming language designed for children:
After that, have him learn "Python". It is an easy language to learn and incredibly popular. It's also powerful enough that they can get a job using it.
Welcome in advance! Where are you relocating from?
There is always a lot going on here, especially if you like seafood, the outdoors or craft beer you may find yourself having to choose what gets your attention each weekend. If you're interested in finding IRL activity partners you may want to consider joining the Hampton Roads Redditors group on Facebook. Meetup.com is also pretty active in this area and might be worth a couple searches for groups that are into whatever you're into.
Few people dislike Ray and his wife more than I do when it comes to these neighborhood issues. I mean, I live right around the corner from them and have been dealing with them since before they moved in. They're jerks, no error.
But that really has nothing to do with the larger issues related to the use of the building.
Taking a position because you like or dislike someone is a well-known flaw in the rational decision process. It was noted over 25 years ago by Warren Buffet's business partner, Charlie Munger, in his classic, "The Psychology of Human Misjudgement." It has also be noted more recently by psychologist Daniel Kahneman in his book, "Thinking, Fast and Slow." It is a human flaw that we should all strive to recognize in ourselves and and watch out for.
Here's their page on Facebook and their Flickr stream. I've got a friend who's a regular and I've been wanting to go for a while.
I used window genie to clean my gutters! They did great work. They have a sale on groupon right now Gutter Cleaning from Window Genie (Up to 68% Off)
Welcome to Norfolk. I hope you enjoy your time here. While I don't have any specific hair recommendations for you I would suggest asking this question in Nextdoor.com and in the FB group GhentNFK also. Between the three places I am sure you will receive an abundance of suggestions.
I haven't yet tried it myself, but I just found out about a place called Volcano Sushi & Shabu 4402 Princess Anne Rd #111, Virginia Beach, VA 23462 757-961-9770 https://www.facebook.com/volcanoshabushabuvirginabeach/
Plus, there's a Groupon https://www.groupon.com/deals/volcano-shabu-shabu-asian-fondue-sushi ...but read the fine print, which excludes holidays, expires 90 days after purchase, valid for 2 or 4+ adults, etc.
A few recommendations that may help you in your streaming:
> https://www.justwatch.com/ - tells you what (if any) streaming services your content is on
> /r/StreamingBestOf
> /r/NetflixBestOf
> /r/PrimeBestOf
> /r/Hulu
And a reminder that local library systems have lots of digital content available via Hoopla, etc., and are still granting new library cards online.
If you're not interested in going out on the bay or anything with big waves, it really opens the door for you. You could get away with sit-inside or sit-on-top, really whichever one looks better to you or you can get a good deal on. I've mainly used sit-insides for the type of water you plan to be on, but recently got a sit-on-top for hitting the bay and ocean.
If I was in your shoes, I'd be looking for a used sit-inside in the 10' - 12.5' range on offerup/craigslist. I like sit-insides for camping on rivers because if you flip you don't have to worry about things being tied well enough (lost a whole damn cooler of beer once). They also tend to have a lower CoG than sit-on-tops so you get some extra stability in the faster moving rivers. Try to find one with hatches and not just bungie straps. I've found that once you start strapping things to the top of a sit-inside you lose your stability pretty quick.
If you go into dedicated kayak forums people will rant and rave about buy once cry once. Thing is, if you aren't sure you'll love it, there's nothing wrong with starting out simple. I've been rocking a $180 walmart special for awhile now and it gets the job done plenty. After realizing I wanted to stick with it and hit big water, I splurged on a top of the line model. Now I have a backup kayak for when friends visit.
This guy is super knowledgeable and has a great video on sub$300 kayaks
Also here's a very similar kayak to the mustang from the video for only $130. I bet you could talk it down a bit too. What's nice is you get a paddle and vest to get you going too.
Let me know if you have any more questions.
Local cities have been on cops a number of times.
Actually, a Chesapeake officer shot the Cops show cameraman accidentally:
Renting for month or two is a great idea- even if it's just a room for a month. So much less pressure on finding a place "right now," etc. Just gathering from your posts on here that living in Ghent might be worth the price of the commute to you...I bet you would be able to find something temporary while you test it out. Try airbnb for a short-term sublet!
the beach at this area is a very nice beach, probably the most secluded you can get other than north end close to the light house. this is on the chesapeake bay which means shallow warm water with no waves good for swimming. this is a residential area with some street parking. however this neighborhood has 2 awesome places to eat. hells kitchen on the bay and zia marie's italian restaurant. dine and walk a block for a dip at dusk
Its at MHI. If you take Claremont all the way down you will get there. Its where the big Ferris wheel is. Its here on Google Maps
You can get tickets presumably from the movie theater, but I bought mine at Fandango We could meet up around 5ish, grab some eats or drinks at Jewish Mother and then head on over to the theater for 9 hours of Dark Knight madness.
Revery headlines the FM99 concert to benefit the Christmas Wish Fund on Friday, Dec 2 at 09:00 PM @ The Jewish Mother in Virginia Beach, VA. 18 and up are welcome. If antiquity is what they want, then they need this wireless model which is also cheaper than an electrician: https://www.amazon.com/Hand-Turn-Mechanical-Lacquered-Decorative-Installation/dp/B00EYT8MA8/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=twist+doorbell&qid=1622671563&sr=8-2
The problem is getting the 220 in a single phase as you would in Europe. Here in the states you will get 240V as two 120V phases.
The best bet from Amazon (that I found in a quick search) is this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00CLYMMCC
Unfortunately, I don't know of anyone locally who would sell something like that.
I live & die by Blu Rams . They offer really good in home and outside motion detected cameras. Record and pickup sound, and send notifications straight to your phone. Currently have 2 of these https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07YB8HZ8T/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_fab_w5XCFbSPTFSTG
There is an interesting book about the Colonial Parkway murders.
A Special Kind Of Evil: The Colonial Parkway Serial Killings https://www.amazon.com/dp/1947290045/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_48chCb49TV3D4
It was creepy reading about Ragged Island, I had inadvertently been where the truck and bodies were found before knowing anything about the killings.
G-Shock on Amazon. I've purchased a few that are much, much cheaper than from local retailers.
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00J5PYFD4/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1
G-Shock is cheap and very durable, plus fashionable.

It's 100% the shitty cox hardware. Buy your own docsis 3.0 modem like this guy and a good router like this guy
Don't let them lie to you, you absolutely have a choice. Return the hardware, making sure you get a receipt that you did so. You're probably also 'renting' the thing, so make sure it gets off your monthly bill.
You'll have to call them to more or less 'activate' the modem on the network, but then you'll be good to go. Check out speedtest.net and fast.com afterwards to monitor speeds.
My two females like this thing and the cardboard pads are replaceable. They dont play with the ball, just scratch on it. They dont like the vertical posts. http://www.amazon.com/Bergan-Turbo-Scratcher-Cat-Toy/dp/B000IYSAIW/ref=zg_bs_3024130011_1
