The more chess you play, the more it becomes a reference point for any conflict in your life.
Try playing repeating games of chess with the people sitting around you while the class reads through The Art of War by Sun Tzu. You can tell who's doing the reading and who isn't, and you actually apply what you're learning as you go, rather than trying to absorb the entirety in one go.
What's the license on this? If you're liberal enough with licensing, online media outlets will likely pick this up for articles. Maybe CC-BY, if I may be so bold to suggest it?
Thanks for sharing this piece. Dialogue through art is something I haven't experienced as much as I'd like in OWS (which is not to imply a dearth of OWS-inspired art, I just don't know my way around).
Read the section on "Terrain" (Chapter 10) in The Art of War.
You have 6 types of terrain (Accessible - Entangling - Temporizing - Narrow - Precipitous - Far), each of which calls for a different action. Chess is a game of war by proxy (both the pieces as proxy for soldiers, and the game as proxy for war between two individuals). So from move 1, what's the accessible ground? It's the spaces that a piece on your side can move to in the first 2 turns (before you start running into an enemy unit). Entangling ground would be the spaces behind the advancing pawns. Etc.
Then further down you have the 6 calamities (Flight, Insubordination, Collapse, Ruin, Disorganization, and Rout). In chess insubordination is probably not much of a worry, but in Xanthu's class it is.
So some of the lessons are less applicable than others to chess specifically, however you gain more understanding of the entire work (even of those ideas that are not applicable) merely by exercising the ideas in a game that applies them.
They are using the excuse that there is reason to believe disorderly conduct in the form of intentional sidewalk blocking will occur unless they impose the restrictions.
This excuse was already deemed to be not sufficiently tailored by New York caselaw in METROPOLITAN COUNCIL, INC v Safir
relevant quote from section 441:
The sole asserted legal basis for the City's authority to impose such a ban is section 240.20[5] of the New York State Penal Code, which reads:
A person is guilty of disorderly conduct when, with intent to cause public inconvenience, annoyance or alarm, or recklessly creating a risk thereof:
...
....
The City asserts that a blanket ban on public sleeping furthers the purposes of the statute because (1) individuals sleeping on sidewalks necessarily endanger themselves because of their vulnerability to crime or accidents (from, for example, cars jumping curbs and falling objects), and (2) individuals sleeping on the sidewalk "inherently hamper free movement on and accessibility of the sidewalk." (Friedland Aff. ¶¶ 4-6.)
this was rejected by the courts.
Last time I heard, their $74 trillion Merrill Lynch derivative transfer to FDIC-insured accounts (translation: they can gamble with money, and if they lose, they send the bill to the taxpayer) is still happening. See story here

https://www.google.com/search?tbm=nws&btnmeta_news_search=1&q=buckeye+arizona+walmart >An ambulance took Newman to the hospital, where he got four stitches for a cut on the left side of his forehead. His nose was also bloodied but not broken, Hall said. >Newman was then booked into the Maricopa County jail on suspicion of shoplifting and resisting arrest.
and >Newman's grandson was treated and released for his injuries by firefighters at the scene.
The videogame was tucked in his waistband, not in his shirt.
Police say it was his fault. (he didn't handle being arrested in a store for doing nothing wrong correctly)
Witnesses said the man had about $600 worth of electronics that he was purchasing and was not trying to steal anything.
Under Arizona law, concealment can be used as a basis for arrest -- officers aren't required to wait for a suspect to leave the store, Hall explains.
>In an effort to protect his little grandson from all the unruliness, the man—who reportedly had about $600 worth of merchandise in his cart—slipped the video game he was holding in his hand into his pants waistband for a brief moment so he could lift up the boy and carry him to safety. That's when cops showed up and allegedly threw him to the ground—shattering his face
Note, the cops were nowhere to be seen trying to maintain order when there was a feeding frenzy and chaos over grabbing for the video games. They really do protect the store and not the safety of the people.
I'm going to side track this discussion in a positive way i hope! With things like http://www.khanacademy.org/ , people can be in charge of educating themselves. MIT is offering free online courses, and it's really the cheapest way of educating the masses.
THIS MASK IS CONVENIENTLY SIZED FOR SILK SCREENING AND TRADEMARKED BY WARNER BROTHERS - they aren't paid when you create 'pop art' by putting it on a bandanna wrapped over your face.
Although major news channels are not covering it, there are many outlets that still are.
It is a shame that this isn't much bigger than it is, though. I agree with that.
I know what you mean but I'm telling you that a lot of people understand it in a different way. It's the same with every word that gains a symbolic meaning. Just like saying "nigger" might not be meant as a negative thing and a lot of black people would actually joke about it, for others it will always be problematic. Personally, I think that people should try to understand what the person who uses a certain word means by it - but this is not how it works.
I'd strongly recommend this poem; it's 7 minutes long; you might understand what I mean better.
I follow him on twitter and he tweeted the link to his facebook page.

Getting filmed breaking international war treaties didn't seem to matter for the guys on the "WikiLeaks Apache helicopter attack video" when they opened fire on the wounded Reuters cameraman and the good samaritan and his kids that were helping him.

I'm not giving an opinion; but see Frisby.
Here's the basic test on if a restriction of free speech is valid under the First Am.:
That leaves the door open for free speech zones and permit requirements and zoning regulations and all sorts of restrictions.
TL;DR: OP's reading of the original decision leaves out the ample opportunities that governments retain to manage free speech, provided they do so consistent with the test laid out above
(Earlier today the headline used the word "fizzled" too; but they changed it. Still in the article body, though.)

If WSJ is the 1%, they're more clueless than I ever imagined.
> credit unions . . . might actually just be more of the exact same.
Credit unions are unlikely to develop into anti-competitive oligopolies, since they're mostly local, but if that were to happen your concerns are certainly not unfounded. Even so, it would take a long time for that to happen, probably on the order of decades.
> Something tells me big banks either own or are in the process of owning credit unions.
A hostile take-over is close to impossible, because credit unions are not generally publicly traded.
I've seen the entire sequence of her arrest, she doesn't even seem scared or anything after they dragged her from the crowd and shoved her in the back of a paddy wagon.
Edit: Yeah, here she right after being arrested. She's just laughing at the absurdity of it all.
Sorry, but its true.
The more I look into this character, the more he looks like a self-serving scam artist.
His claims about being the "2nd highest ranking civilian in the Marines" are also probably nonsense as well.
Who knows if anything he says is true. Regardless though, if he actually cares about the movement or this proposal he is hawking, he would step back right now and let other people take care of it. If it really is a good idea, it will spread on its own. Unfortunately it looks like he is trying to drum up donations for himself and has collected $580 so far.
Its interesting that he refuses to answer any of the 9/11 questions also.

There is his donation page. Notice he is kindly offering to run for President as the OWS candidate.
The ideas of the TZM absolutely has its flaws. Nobody ever said the ideas put forth were a "fantasy land" or as some put it "a utopia." It was never suggested that their ideas were the "end all solution." But that doesn't make it worse than what we have now. I certainly think it is the best idea I've heard of as an initial solution to the shit we're dealing with right now.
As for the first film, he never said that it wasn't a documentary. The film was just meant for a different purpose than the purpose that has been born out of the movement. Anyway, I feel like I'm not going to get anywhere further on my points with you. Rather, I will direct you to Peter Joseph's piece by piece discounting of the mainstream media's portrayal of the movement in light of his films.
For anybody who doesn't know, Jon Jost is a long time low budget filmmaker whose made numerous political works that critics have loved but he's never found much of a large audience, thus has few resources. He almost gave up completing his experimental essay trilogy on America, but as this link shows he's enlisted the help of a couple younger filmmakers to get a more contemporary perspective on the issues. You can read about their project and efforts to gain funding here. The gist of it is that they will travel across the country, talking to people and trying to define the nebulous concept that is America.
Well, this is one situation where fox news can proudly say regulation has lost its meaning without bullshitting anyone. I don't know how to respond because the county are being dicks and forgetting the purpose of the law (to protect) while also not prioritizing this as a low risk problem that could go ignored.
She could raise the money needed with something like http://www.indiegogo.com/

It's common for younger folks, I think, to assume that the internet is ubiquitous, but it's really still on the outside of mainstream media, looking in. This is obviously going to change, which is a big part of why we're seeing the power struggle to control it.
Can't say it enough... Politicians have their own political agendas. I've made post after post, do Not endorse the endorsement of any politician... No matter how much you may like said Representative! They ALL have their own ideals on what this movement/revolution should be about!!!
I wish so much I could be apart of Occupy Tampa. But, alas, like many others, I am tied down by my own personal obligations. But, that does not mean I don't support, and plaster everything about, the movement all over the place!!

From what I can tell it does talk about exploiting different issues in Syria and abroad to "impact regime behavior" but I can't say for sure anything about destabilizing Syria or deposing Assad's government.
>CONCLUSION: This analysis leaves out the anti-regime Syrian Islamists because it is difficult to get an accurate picture of the threat within Syria that such groups pose. They are certainly a long-term threat. While it alludes to the vulnerabilities that Syria faces because of its alliance with Iran, it does not elaborate fully on this topic. The bottom line is that Bashar is entering the new year in a stronger position than he has been in several years, but those strengths also carry with them -- or sometimes mask ) vulnerabilities. If we are ready to capitalize, they will offer us opportunities to disrupt his decision-making, keep him off-balance, and make him pay a premium for his mistakes.
I think Phil Ochs once wrote a song about you.
AFAIK, this is a proposal by one working group in NYC, not a plan that has been adopted by the NYC General Assembly.
While I actually sorta like the ambitious spirit of this July 4 idea, I'm very un-thrilled by their other recent proposal to elect an executive committee to govern the Occupation. Not exactly in the spirit of the movement.
Just tell them to deliver it to the protesters. They have already been delivering to the park, and will know what to do.

In the interest of being principled, I have to point out that the evidence for "roid rage" is about as strong as that for reefer madness. Since anabolic steroids are available for prescription use side effect data is available. Anger/violence is not on the list, even for rare side effects.
That said, there is evidence that abuse of anabolic steroids can cause psychological side effects.
As with many other drugs, the problem is that users are pushed out of supervision. If it were easier to go to a doctor, get a prescription for the purpose of body building, and be monitored, there would likely be no problems. The problems stem from prohibition, not the drug itself.
They are not legally considered "insider information" right now. A good read on this topic is the book that seems to have brought this controversial practice to light: Throw Them All Out by Peter Schweizer. Very good book. Really gets the rage going. Shortly after the book came out, CBS's 60 Minutes did a piece on it too. It has apparently renewed interest in a piece of legislation originally introduced by Representative Louise Slaughter, that was shelved.

I've been surprised that Reddit doesn't pay more attention to Naomi Klein. I didn't understand why the world was the way it was, why we seemed to constantly be in a state of emergency and destruction until I read her book, The Shock Doctrine. It was the key I needed to suddenly see the pattern laid bare. Makes me sound like a cultist, but she was the only one shouting "the emperor has no clothes," and once you hear it, you know it's true.
It would just as fair to assume agents provocateurs on the non-police side did it to whip up a bit more protesting. Or somebody tired of the traffic in their neighborhood. Or someone coming home from the bar who thought it would be funny.
Most likely the combination of a lot of plastic and a stray candle flame.
Also, they have had a good run of dry weather lately.
I'm not going to suspect anyone until we get some facts.
More than likely, the rowdy football fans just aren't all that rowdy.
Not that I'm defending the actions of police against OWS, but USA doesn't have that violence in sports culture like that.
Credit Unions, Co-ops, open source software, permaculture, green spaces, 3D printers, building a tent city and inviting the homeless...

I agree we need to build an alternative economy.
Edit: I'd love to start with disruptive innovation: Destroy Monsanto with permaculture community gardens, smash the credit card companies with Dwolla (or competitors), dismantle the fossil fuel economy with green tech... these things aren't far off. We can out compete any of these highly centralized monstrosities.
Government intervention empowers that behavior.
You might wish to study some economics - Economics in One Lesson is a fantastic place to get started.
Further, in a free market, these persons would be liable for the fraud they commit, rather than passing off that liability to a mythical corporate entity.
Don't jump to any conclusions though. We need to gather more evidence.
I assure you they did deny me. I was making minimum wage and my hours had been cut to 20. That was too much and I was denied.

geez, the allegations are even coming from Ron Paul's campaign. that's a pretty serious charge, meriting serious investigation.
you want to get into an argument about this? i can show everyone how you'll lie about that, too.
or are you just going to lie and say there's something wrong with those sources, and not clarify what? seems like all the evidence overwhelmingly supports the conclusion that Ron Paul has the most popular support, and that the people in control of the GOP primary are sabotaging the election.
>No, they're not.

>To quote the economist Thomas Sowell:
Thomas Sowell, as always, is disingenuous. He neglects to mention that, relatively speaking, everyone except the top few percent are in the shithouse, with the top .1% doing most of the fleecing. Here's the stats of the actual reality of it, if you're curious.
Also, saying idiotic things "the absolute majority of the people in the bottom 20 percent" belies a serious misunderstanding of how class works all together. An upper middle class student might begin his adult life with no savings -- except he's had all the benefits of his family's material support, worry-free upbringing, paid-for high-quality education, family social and business contacts, and an insurance policy in someone else's bank account should he ever fuck it all up. Someone like that is penniless on paper only. It's not a surprising transition into the top 20%, if you already come from the top 20%.

This is amazing wrong. It is illegal to deface bank notes.
Here is the link titled Remember, There is no law on the books in the US against defacing banknotes; this is perfectly legal.
What it actually says:
Section 333 covers paper currency. It states that it is illegal to cut, deface, mutilate, disfigure, perforate or rejoin bills.
I don't really have a problem with the idea of Occupy George, but don't claim it's legal. It is illegal civil disobedience.

>Giving the military the power to treat anyone they want like Bradley Manning here at home is just one more legal power which could come in very handy.
Hey, don't diss the military. We're supporting you, too (former USAF).
Be more worried about the militarization of the cops. They have fewer restrictions, lower entry requirements, and much shitier training.
Need I remind you that Tampa rolled out a surplus military APC last week?
Well, make sure to get the word out about things like Operation Fast and Furious, or the more directly-relevant NYPD Gun Running.

It's because she deleted her LinkedIn profile, actually. We never had any sort of a connection aside from me InMail'ing her. The request failed when she deleted her account.
Ok jack ass. Go back to grade school. What I said was I am not OWS. I am NOT petitioning (here is the definition) the Gov't. I also said that it was not my idea. I was just giving a means to an end and what the rights are in doing so. So go back to your mom you home sick abortion.

>Do you consider an Article V convention to be "overthrowing"?
No. That is using the methods in the US Constitution to change it.
In the article it says this:
>But while both sides agree that the Constitution is a well-meaning and important document, the Tea Partyers are unyielding in their devotion, while occupiers say they’re ready to toss all or part of it.
Either the person who wrote this article misinterpreted constitutional convention as an overthrow of it or the OWS people in that meeting really did say they want to overthrow it (which I think is a minority view). So in that regard, I think this article is badly written as the author provides no source on who said it besides "occupiers". For all we know, that could have been said by a Tea Party supporter talking about what the "occupiers" said.
Regardless, I would recommend every OWS protestor read The Federalist Papers on why we have a Federal Government and a Constitution which forms that Federal Government before they advocate the overthrowing of it.
>How would you keep the people who have already been abusing us from taking charge of it and making the Constitution from hell?
That is a legitimate concern, one of which I share. OWS actually has a plan in place to form a National General Assembly.
Also, read the declaration.

Malcolm left the stifling atmosphere of the nation of islam before he died. Went on a pilgrimage to Mecca that really changed his perspective on things. Came back and wanted to unite with the other leaders like King and even gave up his strict segregation philosophy, that is when he was killed.

At the same time that I am facilitating discussion of Electoral Reform and persistent demands for Electoral Reform, I will help build BigBatUSA which goes beyond Joe Trippi's clustering model (everyone talks) and introduced participatory citizen intelligence, citizen policy-making, and citizen budget oversight.
Whoa. Guess I did sound a little sarcastic, although I am excited by any proposed solutions that anyone may have at this point. Sorry that my words were taken the wrong way.
So... getting down to business I must address the example that you used to illustrate your point. I have just watched one of the episodes of 'Undercover Boss' (the premiere episode, involving waste management). I get why you believe that this may be an effective way to effect change.
But.
First of all, we both understand that the reality of the change only came about because Larry was willing to work as a garbageman for ONE week. C'mon. I'd be a little more convinced if, maybe, Larry worked this job for multiple weeks. Months. Years. I'd love to hear his perspective on effecting corporate change having worked as a garbageman for one decade.
Secondly, this is television. Not an accurate portrayal of reality (heeyyyy... just like the interwebs, right?).
Speaking of reality... do you believe that Larry made lasting, sustained changes to his business because he was able to experience what it was like to work for his own company? This is one way to gauge... although I'd prefer to talk to some actual garbagefolk to be able to determine what they think. So I'll have to get back to you on that.
It seems to me that simply calling out this 1% is not good enough. To have that much money and be that detached from how having that much money affects others is still ABSOLUTELY NO EXCUSE for behaving the way we see them behaving. Someone doesn't have to be actively 'evil' to harm others: their apathy and ignorance could do just as much damage to others as deliberate evil could. And there's just no excuse for that.
The author describes perfectly how I felt when watching the video of Katehi walking to her car.
"It was not what you heard, but what you did not hear. A deafening silence of hushed voices but seething anger. The video was painfully awkward to watch as an outside observer, whilst equally inspiring and poignant."

from what i understood from this article, the $75 trillion is already FDIC insured:
> Bloomberg reports that Bank of America (BAC) has shifted about $22 trillion worth of derivative obligations from Merrill Lynch and the BAC holding company to the FDIC insured retail deposit division. Along with this information came the revelation that the FDIC insured unit was already stuffed with $53 trillion worth of these potentially toxic obligations, making a total of $75 trillion.

I totally agree with you... there is nothing to hide, so may as well make it all public and transparent. Here's some info on where donations for OWS have come from so far: http://mashable.com/2011/10/28/occupy-wall-street-donations/
Thanks for posting that for me. I'm getting so fucking tired of responding to these people who are too lazy to do any research so they just decide to come on and say "LOL WAT R OWS EVEN MEAN U GUYS R SILLY". It's getting old.
Also, you left this one out:
>It's just so stereotypical of a movement made up primarily of younger people asking for things so they can do what they want - which is occupy
Your image of who the protestors are is missaligned with reality. When I camped at OWS for a weekend, I brought all my own gear. I also met middle-aged individuals who requested gear from comfort.
You are making broad and inaccurate speculation that has no foundation and it's built on your own bias, not any research or experience.
>What a waste. That money could have been put towards a national headquarters somewhere in NYC to run everything out of.
They have one of those, too. It's been donated. It's where the media team organizes the livestream broadcasts off-site. Use of the offsite kitchen where hot food is prepared before being distributed in the onsite community kitchen has also been donated. The report is regarding monetary donations. If you think what is happening in the park is the only place the protest is happening and being organized, then you are severely under-informed
Also, the idea of organizing a new political party or at least a series of demands is already beginning to form.
tl;dr: Stop your baseless speculating, because you have no idea what you're talking about. It gets banks into trouble and it will get you into trouble.

If you read Naomi Kleins The Shock Doctrine you'll get your answers.
TL;DR The overlords are protecting their kingdoms through the use of their paid underlings.
Wait until they start rounding them up and holding them in stadiums... then you know the movement has reached critical mass.
'The Shock Doctrine' is a good book on the topic, by Naomi Klein. It shows how the IMF and World Bank manipulate foreign governments, and it explains a lot about the ideas behind "unregulated free market capitalism", among other things. I highly recommend it. And for what it's worth, Naomi has spoken at Occupy camps a few times, so you may recognize the name.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Shock_Doctrine
Note: there are some critics of this book, as you would expect with a topic like this. However, I still feel it is an extremely worthwhile read. I suppose you could compare it to the writing style of Malcolm Gladwell, at least somewhat, in that although it is a very serious topic, it is also written in an interesting (and easy to understand) way... which I think is a positive thing.
Nice! And...
According to Sun Tzu this invincibility is actually a spiritual invincibility. An invincibility that comes from having wisdom, humaneness, justice, moral rightness, discipline (AOW, Chapter 1 on leadership).
btw--There is a subreddit r/uprising dedicated to discussing "The Art of War" and related texts with respect to OWS. Please join the discussion.
well we could say how businesses started applying tactics from "The Art of War" in the 80s to gain a competetive edge, but... well, the anti-corporate hippies will hate that. I mean yea OWS is anti-too big to fail corporation and anti-evil corporations, But some people fail to remember where their fancy macbooks and iphones were made...
>Why do we need a leader?
I said leadership. Without, a movement can have no coordination and accomplish no purpose.
> Look at the civil rights movement.
Nonviolence succeeded as an alternative to violent rebellion, not without the threat of it. Second of all, proactive defense is not violence. It's just a rational response to it.
>You want to scare off people?
Those who fear violence have no place in a non-violent protest. The police do not share your high ideals, and tear gas is in-discriminant.
> What seperates defense from offense? Position, strategy, and goals. I'm sure that you can find a Cliffs' notes of The Art of War somewhere on the 'net.
>We start defense they step up offense and we keep stepping it up until we are in a full on riot.
As opposed to sitting around waiting to get beaten, gassed, and arrested for exercising our right?
Remember Tahrir? I do. If the protesters had allowed themselves to be driven from the square, Mubarak would still have an iron grip on Egypt. Their defense was critical mass and lighting fires to disperse the tear gas. Nonviolent and passive are not the same thing.
i would like you to cite your findings as well on the college graduate part.
apparently you didn't pay attention to the khan academy link, one of the ratings agencies jobs was to rate the risk of mortgaged backed securities, which have been conclusively found to be highly over rated.
GE and Boeing (didn't want to waste time looking up the others) both made gains from Jan. 2009 to Jan. 2011 and so did have an income to tax, yet they still payed 0, making my point still valid.
You say jimmy buffet is an anomaly? i see no evidence to the contrary, he is the only 1%er who has summarized his books with us that i know of. so for all either of us know he could very well be an accurate representation of the 1%.
Sorry for the Facebook link, but this is classic: I don't mind you being rich. I mind you buying my government!
The website they reference was created on January 28th 2009. Scott was deployed to Iraq twice. The first time, August 2006 to May 2007 and then from 2008-2009, he left the Marines in November of 2009.
Maybe you could argue with these guys for awhile. https://www.facebook.com/pages/OccupyMARINES/246310432083819
Dayton, OH? There isn't a subreddit yet. I don't really know what kind of presence we have here, but it would be nice to know...
Occupy Dayton Website currently down for maintenance, but a really great site.
November 5th is national bank transfer day. close all your BofA Chase and Wells Fargo accounts, and move your funds to a local credit union or small independent bank. here
Seriously. Why didn't the OP just link the FB page?
It's not that there's not enough regulation; it's that the regulation is indirectly written by banks. For example, after repealing Glass–Steagall, investment banks have been able to have their investments backed by the government. The taxpayers are on the hook for hundreds of trillions of dollars worth of derivatives. If those laws didn't exist, we wouldn't have this issue. Here is an excellent piece discussing the topics if you haven't seen it already:

Here's a link to the Citibank Plutonomy memo.
It pretty much admits to everything OWS is protesting. They even included nice graphs and sited their sources.

i suggest you check wtih your local occupy, see if you can find any info about buses etc. and thanks for mentioning/reminding us of the event.
There are decentralized social networks as well as mesh networks forming these days. [/r/darknetplan](/r/darknetplan) is one place I know of.
It would be nice to have this redundant and decentralized and secure - like fraud resistant. In the meantime, there is google+ and other social networks and those give some redundancy.
i have been pushing these points:
ron paul's book "end the fed", and peter schiff's book "how an economy grows and why it crashes" are both good
here's a vid: meltdown
Here Is The Study. . .
"Do people die from income inequality of a decade ago?" by Hui Zheng: http://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S0277953612002298
Signed this the day it came out. I've been trying to bring it up when I can, though not enough.
Also in the same vein, Fix Congress First. This group is far less visible but backed by very wise scholars pursuing a constitutional convention solution to our problems initiated at the state level.
I also suggest the Move Your Money Project. Many are already getting their money out, but it's an important act to reclaim control over our own lives. This is one action many of us can take.
In the long run, I think we all need to look long and hard at the impact of investing so much of our retirements in the paper trading scheme that are the Bond and Stock Markets. Wall Street has taken control over most peoples lives by holding the keys to retirement through pensions, 401k, personal investment portfolios, etc. This has given undue control over our financial destiny to the corrupt puppet masters on the street and their politicians. The money needs to come home gradually and be invested in productive pursuits that create jobs for ourselves and our neighbors.
They also have a form to request a designer to design something for you: http://occupydesign.org/guide/for-occupiers/
If you are a designer, you can help out by grabbing an item in the queue: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/pub?hl=en_US&hl=en_US&key=0AmGbtHHNUKqIdExDQl9teHh5OEdLZDM5UDJPRlkzN3c
Of course volunteers to charge rechargeable batteries and boil gel packs will be needed, but it's a start.
I'm bidding on these.
No, i also posted above as well. But look at all the articles, and when they were posted. Most of them today, expect to hear much more news about it.
Oh, Michael Moore.
A few years back he was mister "I don't own a single share of stock!".
The whole time he was saying it, he had stock in...
Eli Lilly, a big pharma company with Bush family connections going back to the 70s.
Best Foods (I can't seem to find anything on them this morning, they make mayonaise and ???).
Sonoco (same, makes plastics).
Boeing (makes planes and military equipment).
Bank One (Seeing as this is OWS, no comment needed).
Halliburton. (Yeah, he had Halliburton stock when Fahrenheit 9/11 was new.)
I think it's time to consider making shields and helmets.... and gas masks http://www.instructables.com/id/DIY-Gas-Mask/ <-(that's new so i don't know how effective it is)
but otherwise attacking cops and throwing molotovs or something will only bring lead bullets instead of rubber ones... you have to remember that they are overly prepared for violence, and not prepared for peace and love.
What more concerning to me is the usage of gremlins and agent provocateurs... the later advocating violence and crime
In the UK protests I heard of spray-paint being used to render the police face masks useless, and then they're poetically hindered by their own tear gas (or blind and not attacking peaceful civillians).... i don't know about even that here, though. They want any excuse to lock us up... or crack skulls with their clubs. And a city on fire hurts and kills the very people your trying to fight for, fuck everything about that.
By having it regulated by the state, there is only one set of regulators which makes it easy for the companies to buy them off, leading to continued pollution without consequence. The idea of competition is what keeps everyone honest. The more people keeping an eye on pollution, the more likely it is to be enforced. By leaving it to the state, people lay back and feel like everything's being taken care of, when really they could be being bought off.
Edit: If it's about the money, you've already been paying for the EPA since 1970. How's that been doing? According to this study, not well.
> I find that export performance of ESGs [environmentally sensitive goods] for most countries remained unchanged between the 1960s and 1990s, despite the introduction of stringent environmental standards in most developed countries in the 1970s and 1980s.
