Let me guess, it's the Proud Boys, who are on record as wanting to instigate violence in Providence and hurt/kill those who disagree with them?
Modern day brownshirts.
That was pretty much it, although the Hartford proposal was a lot more serious (actually producing a signed 'deal'). Here's a pretty good account of it.
Don't miss this classic video promotion!
you bet! only way I could survive eating during college. if you head down Broad st, just over the 95 from downtown, there's two places. There's a Pho place called Pho Paradise that makes a few varieties, and a block before them on Broad + Pearl St there's a little family restaurant/bakery that makes great ones for super cheap -- either $2.50 or $3 for the "standard" or tofu ones, if I remember correctly. I actually have no idea what the name of the place is, which i weird now that I think about it. I don't think I've ever seen a sign, but you can see it here on streetview.
And on another note, if you need any groceries New Asian Market is just next door to Pho Paradise, and has the best selection I've found in the immediate area.
Hi! Yes! Woo hoo! My company runs it and it's pretty much my favorite day of the year.
Your ticket ($30 plus tax) gets you access to all the restaurants participating in the Stroll. The restaurants serve all sorts of food. Some places put out large spreads; others do small samples of their specialties. It varies place to place, which makes exploring part of the game. You also get two drink tickets valid for pretty much any kind of drink. At the end of the evening, you vote for your favorite ("King of the Hill") and Most Creative, and those winning restaurants get a little award.
There's usually a little music.
Long story short, I think it's tremendous. Hope this helps. LMK if you have questions.
Motel 6 in Warwick. Dirty, smelly, and noisy; two stars on TripAdvisor.
America's Best Value Inn in Rumford has bedbugs and a one-star review on TripAdvisor. "A dirty, messy dump".
All I saw was this article https://www.huffpost.com/entry/proud-boys-chat-logs-premeditate-rally-violence-in-leaked-chats_n_5ce1e231e4b00e035b928683?guccounter=1
at the bottom is:
Swinney also confirmed that the Proud Boys had been planning another rally in Providence, which they hoped to hold June 1, but which now appears to be on the rocks if not canceled. He said he wouldn’t be going due to his personal monetary woes, which he blamed on “the left, SPLC and feds.”
sounds a lil loose to me idk
Unfortunately TF Green isn't really equipped for layovers. Until very recently, it was strictly a terminal airport. Now with flights to and from Europe, this type of thing is happening more frequently. Your best bet I think would be to book a room on Airbnb (like this one: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/19185160). It'd be a pretty cheap cab/uber to and from the Airport.
From my neighborhood: https://nextdoor.com/p/S6dxJxwtdM6r?utm_source=share&extras=NjYyNTc4OTk%3D
Just throwing this out there, there was a post a couple days ago about people stealing packages off people's porches, and there was a porch cam that caught a pic of the suspects walking with a guitar case
Good luck either way - if you do open it, host a /r/providence meetup there ;)
BTW, for some reason your link seems to have some junk on the end of it.. If you change it to just

it works, however.
Memorial Boulevard and Exchange Terrace, as folks here have said. This is AMAZING. any context? Part of me wants this to be something fun and spontaneous someone's doing, but a more reasonable part of me is a little worried that the subject here is actually disturbed.
You could post to the neighborhood site nextdoor.com for Providence. I've read several posts from people requesting help in finding an apt. There are always replies with phone numbers, contacts, or suggesting the renter DM them. Good Luck!
You are going to want to take a visit to AS22O they are a great art collective right in downtown. Big Nazo is an odd duck but definitely in the preforming arts. I am not sure what kind of public outreach they do.
As far as being there in January? Bring warm clothes. The weather can be kind of unpredictable then. I like weatherspark.com because it will give you a temperature track with historical averages, record highs and lows, and likely percentiles. Shoes that are good for snow and ice are also a good idea. In a lot of ways Providence is a very walkable city but snow removal is hard in narrow urban areas with lots of winter and Providence doesn't do the greatest job. So sidewalks can be slick and uneven.
If he gets the job definitely search here for "moving" and "visiting" and "to do" because we have a large archive of posts along those lines with a lot of great answers.
All of his previous videos have been in Seattle, and since it looks like this could have been filmed over the course of a few days, he may have moved here. I'm not sure if this is supposed to be a political statement, but most of the people this guy harasses in his videos seem to be homeless people. He seems like a creep to me.
Description: it looks like he's a youngish thin white male (wearing chucks and glasses in one video, so in Providence a single fish swimming in a sea of hipsters).
Despite being happy to put everyone else's image on the internet, he is obviously a little camera shy. You can see he turns away abruptly when the mother says "I'm going to take your photo" when he is following the family at the skybridge. If you see him, take his photo and post it here!
Right off of bath street in Providence there is a small shop called Rah-Coco's it is only open odd hours and looks like it is part of some guys house, but I used to go there while I was in college. I am pretty sure it is still there.

Sounds like the East side is what I'm looking for! I'd prefer a quiet neighborhood to a busy, commercial one.
I'm going to be working with Splitwise (I'm an iOS developer). I'm a little nervous about the whole deal because I'm moving to a whole new country, and I don't know much about how things such as renting/sharing/sublet work locally in Providence.
I've been looking at listings on Craigslist, some of them seem promising, but nobody is listing for October yet. Maybe its too early?
I am also outdoors a good amount of the day. I have these thermals from Amazon and they are affordable and great
I have one pair of lightweight that have been great so far but I think I am going to order midweight next.
Smartwool and Darn Tough socks are great. I found great deals for both on Amazon and Steep & Cheap. Also check REI
> I recently bought my long winter coat and earmuffs but I think its a bit early to bring them out
Nah. No reason to not be comfortable.
The NYT rent/buy calculator is legit:
https://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2014/upshot/buy-rent-calculator.html
u/thekevinmeister, I commend your ambition, but I recommend taking a first-time buyers' course before you move forward with a purchase. Looks like this would be the closest thing to what I'm describing: http://loans.rhodeislandhousing.org/Homebuyer_education_classes/
I took one recently (not in PVD) and learned quite a bit....I've worked in construction and have done quite a bit of research on first-time buying as I'm preparing to purchase property in my current location and even then I learned quite a lot.
Cheers and good luck.
What kind of places do you like? Dive bars, fancy bars, or no bars? Sit and be waited on or get pizza by the slice? Do you want to do what the locals do, or do tourist stuff? Loud or quiet, crowded or sparse, etc.
My Friday and/or Saturday nights usually entail going to Muldowney's Pub, then heading over to Antonio's (or Nice Slice right across the street) for a late night snack.
How cool!!
Also, something interesting I learned from that third site you shared...I always thought it was odd that one of my great-grand aunts (b. abt 1861) always lists her birthplace as Massachusetts’s while the other siblings had listed Rhode Island but now it makes sense!
“Watchemoket, in the west-central portion of the city, began to develop as a suburb of Providence in the 1840s - Growth proceeded slowly, however, until East Providence was set off from Seekonk, Massachusetts and annexed to Rhode Island in 1862.”
Luckily I do have a Ancestry.com membership - it’s my paternal lineage that traces back to RI beginning with The O’Connell’s - free to check it out 😁
I use an antenna and had to get it up on the roof + a bunch more feet to get around the interference of neighbors/trees (live halfway up the hill) and get all channels at the same time. After struggling forever below the roofline, this really fixed everything and I get plenty of RI + MA + NH + CT channels... with two exceptions.

If you want to receive these channels on antenna, you'll need to make sure the one you buy specifically can get Low VHF. The channels are also available on the web, otherwise. I use Channels DVR and one of the things you can do is combine OTA with internet m3u stations (think Pluto or Stirr). You can fairly easily set up the same for these streaming PBS stations. I won't recommend Channels for the feint of heart; it is not an intuitive setup and takes mid-level tech knowledge. Once you have it up, though, it is seamless!

The other thing I'll recommend is if you haven't got an antenna setup yet, DISH actually installs OTA antennas. I think it is about $260 now and you have to call them, but you get the antenna, booster/splitter, installation, connection to existing COAX or new COAX entrance, and quality check before they go. It is well worth the price to get all of that and it is what I did. The antenna they use is so-so and lacks the low VHF (they aren't super knowledgeable about this when you talk to them), but like I said I have workarounds for all of that, so up to you. I have heard others hand the installers better antennas than the one they give you, but can't vouch for that.
If you're right, and survive, you'll need evidence:

I suggest prioritizing survival over being right though.
We have a Facebook group as well if you want to see what might be going on outside of the usual runs. See you there soon. We have at least three Redditors in our midst, so you'll be in good company!
You’ve probably considered this, but my husband had been using a razor and then switched to one of these automatic head shavers and loves it. https://www.amazon.com/Skull-Shaver-Pitbull-Silver-Electric/dp/B081CLSKQX
I JUST said this to a friend as I lived here for a few years thru 2015 and recently moved back, excited to avoid stuff like this in a city neighborhood. My friend in landscaping recommended spraying cedar oil and linked me to this product as safe for people, pets and plants. Haven’t tried yet (on order) but it’s not too pricey, environmentally conscious and easy to use so here’s to trying!

Oh, I don't know what they actually have in the flea market. I just know the area seems to be very Guatemalan and Mexican influenced .. Who knows if there's any of that stuff actually at the flea market..
Anyhow it's 499 Valley Street, Providence, Rhode Island .. At least that's what Google maps shows:
The New England Heavenly Music Company might be right up yr ally. We have an EP (possible LP?) coming out soon but in the mean time check out a composition here: https://soundcloud.com/nehmc/solar-collision
Keep an eye on FB Marketplace, especially as restaurants and bars may be closing shop due to the pandemic. I did a really quick search and found a (non German) bar blackboard in New Bedford for only $10. Lots of little touches like that can help flesh your garden out. Such a cool idea, you're a great spouse!
Yes, for sure! A few of the mountains have summit access roads (Pack Monadnock, Mount Tom, Mount Sugarloaf) but those are closed in the winter, and you want to hike, anyway. I've hiked all of the mountains I listed in the winter, and would strongly recommend spikes on your hiking boots for patchy ice. I'd also recommend downloading All Trails maps of the trails you plan to take before you go, because all of the mountains have multiple trails with different parking lots. Mount Watatic is probably the closest and it's a really nice little hike. I use this loop, taking it clockwise, sometimes extending it using the other marked trails.
I have a private studio apartment in Lincoln (15 minute drive from downtown). It's on Airbnb - October is booked, but I have availability in November. If you're interested: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/13391480
I mean, you can call it what you want and pull out the apologetics and blame global warming, but the reality is, in the last three years, there hasn't been the quintessential "four seasons" here. We're talking about the today - here and now.
Besides that, pulling from historical data, 56.5% of the year here is spent below 55 degrees, vs. only 25.4% over 75 degrees. The other 18.1% are spent between the ranges of 55-65 degrees. To reference your own point re: '23 days over 90': It's that warm for so short a period of time, that it's statistically insignificant.
Here my source, which pulls data from a litany of government agencies and research organizations. Feel free to scrutinize.
So, nearly 3/4 of the year is spent below 65 degrees.

Then we have cloud cover. I encourage you to familiarize yourself with the terms used to describe cloud cover so that you can fully appreciate just how cloudy it is here.
PVD is at least "Partly Cloudy" for the majority of the day, for ~65.9% of the year. "Partly Cloudy" is described as 3/8 to 5/8 cloud cover, so on average, at least 1/2 the sky is cloudy for 65.9% of the year. But wait, there's more. Of that chunk of 65.9%, on average, 75% of that is "mostly cloudy," which is on average, about 81% cloud cover. Only 25% of cloudy conditions are "only" ~50% cloud cover. Or, alternatively, for about 50 percent of the year, PVD is under about 80% cloud cover. Woof.

Sure, it's not Siberia, but that doesn't mean that the climate isn't drastically different that FL. The reality is, PVD spends most of its time below 55 degrees and partly-mostly cloudy. It doesn't have to be Siberia to know that a layman's concept of what "4 distinct seasons" is doesn't exist here. Perhaps it used to, but not any longer. There's a reason the Northeast experiences significant vitamin D deficiency.

Try this I made a craigslist post but never got a confirmation email. Trying to figure out if I lost the whole post. I am cleaning the available rooms today so keep that in mind
I didn't suggest a comparison between Toronto and Providence. I just used that link for a reference on Denmark. The gulf stream keeps Denmark temperate
Snowfall We report snowfall in liquid-equivalent terms. The actual depth of new snowfall is typically between 5 and 10 times the liquid-equivalent amount, assuming the ground is frozen. Colder, drier snow tends to be on the higher end of that range and warmer, wetter snow on the lower end.
As with rainfall, we consider the snowfall accumulated over a sliding 31-day period centered around each day of the year. Providence experiences some seasonal variation in monthly liquid-equivalent snowfall.
The snowy period of the year lasts for 4.9 months, from November 11 to April 9, with a sliding 31-day liquid-equivalent snowfall of at least 0.1 inches. The most snow falls during the 31 days centered around January 23, with an average total liquid-equivalent accumulation of 0.9 inches.
The snowless period of the year lasts for 7.1 months, from April 9 to November 11. The least snow falls around July 15, with an average total liquid-equivalent accumulation of 0.0 inches. https://weatherspark.com/y/26167/Average-Weather-in-Providence-Rhode-Island-United-States-Year-Round
Snowfall The sliding 31-day liquid-equivalent quantity of snowfall in Copenhagen does not vary significantly over the course of the year, staying within 0.1 inches of 0.1 inches throughout. https://weatherspark.com/y/74001/Average-Weather-in-Copenhagen-Denmark-Year-Round
They 100% get less snow than us
I am 100% with you that it is going to take a community to solve this problem.
I'm not against paying money, as long as the community gets something for it. We could pay whatever it's going to take to tear it down. Then pay 175M to build a new building over 20-30 years (Using Boston's hancock tower as an example). And then just end up with some luxury real estate rentals like what happened in Boston's Fenway.
A new building isn't going to evaporate yearly maintenance, or, by itself, magically create money either. In fact, a lot of artist new buildings in major cities with lofty idea become impossible to maintain. (https://www.amazon.com/How-Buildings-Learn-Happens-Theyre/dp/0140139966 is a great book that covers some of the ways money is wasted on some new architecture, or how some money was wasted in the past with over architecture).
I'd also take that appraisals opinion with a grain of salt, given where it came from.
What if we approached it more like what is the city missing, what can give back to the community if money were invested. Office space? Nah. Garden? Na . .
> Generally speaking I don't know anyone who has claimed to make great use of their train time for work. Hopefully some others here have better feedback about that.
I'm a smaller dude, and I was able to get actual work done unless I was stuck in a middle seat (gets a little tight) or the aisle seat (get jostled by standers who couldn't get a seat). As others mentioned here, if you board in RI you'll get at least a window seat. In Boston, you'll need to be there when they announce the train. The secret to knowing which track your train is on before it's announced is the MBTA Rail app (Android, not sure if there's an iOS version).
We have these door/window alarms and they work very well: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07TB52XCW/ref=twister_B08PH877DD?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
Very easy to set up (they use heavy duty 3M tape), three settings (off/chime/ear-piercing alarm), and relatively cheap. They are also sensitive enough to handle a 1/2 inch difference in height between window edge and frame.
The alarm setting is painfully loud and should be enough to spook someone off or buy you time.
If you really want to save some bucks, try a DIY scratch remover. They work very well in my experience.
I think I used Mcguire's, but a quick Amazon search found the current top seller with lots of great reviews.

The rink on 146 does public hockey most days. Usually it's pretty sparse, so you might be able to show up and skate.
Plenty of good, cheap options out there.
Books. Start with (GTD by David Allen)[https://www.amazon.com/Getting-Things-Done-Stress-Free-Productivity/dp/0143126563]. The Five Minute Journal is worthwhile also as a daily practice.
Online Classes. I haven't tried (this one)[https://www.coursera.org/learn/work-smarter-not-harder], but Coursera tends to be good (and free).
Time Management and Communication is a bit general itself. There's a ton of resources. I'd get a personal coach if I were you, but that's more of an investment. Start with books and online classes that are free / cheap.
