There are whole new wings of the internet commissioned monthly to collect the anger of overseas-born Chinese and halflings / Bay Area 码农 / nationalist 水军 with Astrill—along with well-meaning liberal diaspora Chinese "POC" disconnected from the 祖国, posting about how Stan Lee made a Chinese superhero (I looked it up, he's called The Annihilator, awesome, very cool, great representation). Both sides—the PRC-orchestrated/funded nationalist outrage and liberal representation horseshit—are fueled by fantasy, and it's interesting to see how those two fantasies sometimes rub up against each other (see: D&G controversy, where you have nationalist youth in the 大陆 and r/AznIdentity taking it as an attack on the Chinese civilization, and liberal Asian Twitter fired up at the same time). Even this post I'm replying seems to conflate comments on Chinese people with "China"—Chinese nationalism has begun to dominate discussions of anti-Chinese or even anti-Asian racism, and all discourses are subsumed to racial nationalism.
Now, if someone has no exposure to either strain of fantasy and their experience is instead sharing a tenement with Fujianese in Chinatown... Track down sincere Nick Mullen on the Chinese and it's a different story (I like the one about the Chinese refusing to give him up to the feds), and I think he's more right than wrong on "Chinese culture" or whatever.
yeah OP you can actually like buy lithium as a "natural" nutritional supplement so it doesn't look like you're trying to give her Big Pharma prescription meds which she would obviously be suspicious of. There's also lots of places now that do ket infusions for depression so maybe you could convince her to do that and you could go along with her like a spa day or something 🧘🏼♀️ hope she does get help bc as funny as this whole thread is, it's also really sad :(
I sympathize with you. A great book that I read around 24-25 that really change my perspective is The Defining Decade by Meg Jay. I showed it to two of my friends and they loved it and one of them read it twice in a year. It gave me a great perspective. You still have neuroplasticity in your 20s and can cement good habits now that will last. Whereas it’s much more difficult for your brain to alter its habits and patterns later in life. Here’s the Amazon link, I highly recommend: https://www.amazon.com/Defining-Decade-Your-Twenties-Matter/dp/0446561754
It’s also relatively short. I also recommend crime and punishment like someone else in this thread but that is a beast of a book. The Defining Decade is like 200 pages and easy reading.
I mean, most people who aren't cops, security guards, BDSM enthusiats, or into tactical shit wouldn't know manufactured zip-cuffs are a thing
I had to dig around a bit but I’m now pretty certain that it was actually Robert Ray’s A Certain Tendency of the Hollywood Cinema, and my prof just spent a lot of time on the chapter about Taxi Driver, and maybe supplemented it with an article by Schrader, and a lot of his own thinking. Things got mixed up in my mind, it was a long time ago.
All the searching around caused me to order Shrader’s book on the transcendental style though, which seems right up my alley.
Critics, too, seem unenthused. “Generic Post Zombie Formalism illustration” is how Jerry Saltz, New York magazine critic and author of the forthcoming book How to Be an Artist, characterized Biden’s work in an email to Artnet News. Saltz also offered a few words of advice: “Lose the big signature at once; forget the Kusama dots altogether; experiment with the surface and color and tools. Really consider the whole-page as a space and not make everything derivative all-over composition. The background doesn’t always have to be white, you big baby.”
The median age of covid death is just about 80 in the US. Testing and death counting are a massive fiasco.
FWIW I've heard a lot of complaints from dudes about women in their 30s being 'too picky' and among women at that age there's the line about 'wasting too much time with the wrong person.' When there's books for this set with titles like Marry Him: the Case for Settling for Mr. Good Enough, you know there's a problem.

By whom?
By the way, I went to look at the Amazon page of the book, the stumbled across a bunch of pretty hilarious satirical 5-star reviews.
Start with her companion book to build the skills you’ll need for white fragility
I just checked, and she’s selling a hardbound for $150.
It's not bad, The New Yorker has some painfully bad stuff (Andy Borowitz's sense of humor... imo) but if anything's going to grab my full attention for a half hour these days it's probably something fucked up in the New Yorker, old or new.
There's The Complete New Yorker which I got for like five dollars some time ago, but I had enough for my resubscription thanks to my tax return so I took the bullet.
they exist in the US too, in my experience they build these fancy enclosures for them like this and then all the books inside are total garbage (self-help, religious stuff, one time i found a copy of From Hitler’s Germany to the Cross of Christ in one).
from what i’ve seen in Germany it’s the opposite; a musty cardboard box sitting in a friend’s apartment stairwell or on a damp curb, but the books are usually pretty interesting, i’ve found some nice biographies of Vladimir Horowitz and Rosa Luxemburg etc
oh hey that’s the penguin edition of against nature by huysmans on her bed lol. among thee most red scare novels ever read it
Learn to decipher cyrillic words and head to rutracker.org, they're pretty decent. Use virustotal.com to quickly scan any sketchy stuff (this applies to software only).
audiophile dorks use DAPs, which are basically just single purpose music listening devices
a lot of them are stupid high priced so that they can pretend they hear a difference, but there are some cheap as fuck ones (especially after chinese manufacturers got into the business). stuff like this or this, and i bet you could get even cheaper if you order from aliexpress type places
Banned a few years ago, there's r/shopliftingmemes/, f/Illegalism on Raddle, and there's also r/IllegalLifeProTips but it's a lot of garbage you have to wade through.
just up it to 4 or 5 times a week and hit some calisthenics. you don't have to do anything insane but try some pushups, pullups if you can get a bar to mount in your door(something like this) and bodyweight squats. if you want to incorporate some weight at home without setting up a home gym look into kettlebells(link here to show you what you're looking for). you can probably find some kettlebells useful to you for pretty cheap.
The "Feeling Good" books (apparently the latest is called Feeling Great, lol) by David Burns are basically CBT instruction manuals from the shrink who popularized it in the 80s. Cringe title, but it worked for me!
Soy curls are amazing for a meat replacement, I also like seitan and tofu but soy curls are much easier to prepare a good meal once you get the hang of it. I still like and eat eggs and cheese. Other than that, a wide variety of vegetables. sunflower seeds and sunflower seed butter. I'm obsessed with these cinnamon flaxseed crackers. They're expensive though x_x
I love Dasha's point about how pro athletes always believe in God. I think there's a lot to that, and that's what makes people like me different from people like you kids. Us athletes are special in that way, we have humility and arrogance, and it comes from our faith in the Lord.
I saw this, Garage People, recently - it's free if you can pretend that you've paid the license fee. Russian documentary about ordinary people in the Arctic and what they do in their garages. One of them spent his entire life digging a great big hole which is, unexpectedly, incredibly poignant. Ultimately very life-affirming in a bleak way.
Have you heard of SponsorBlock? It skips the ads that are embedded into YouTube videos, as well as intros / outros / reminders to "like and subscribe" and other annoying bullshit. Flagging those is a crowdsourced effort but it works pretty well.
All good stuff but I’d get an air purifier too.
also get a little spritzer bottle and some Florida water off amazon or whatever (botanica if you are lucky enough to live near one)—florida water will help cleanse the unwanted scents and then you can charge the space with incense after the Florida water to get it smelling nice.
Incense I like: nag champa, frankincense, dragons blood, prana, egyptian jasmine, satya natural, lavender, rosemary, patchouli. this is a good starter set
If those snap traps don't work, try these https://www.amazon.com/Just-One-Bite-II-Rodent/dp/B07TCNMDJZ/ref=sr_1_8?dchild=1&keywords=poison+mouse+bars&qid=1611221603&sr=8-8
I wiped out an entire infestation with these bars. The best part about these is that it takes a day or two to finally kill the mouse that eats it, so they'll drag chunks back to the nest for the rest to eat too. Very efficient.
Unfortunately no, I just found these letters online a long time ago after a professor mentioned his dirty love letters. Looks like there’s a Selected Letters of James Joyce first published way back in 1957 that has decent reviews and is available in cheap paperback.

ive always thought spice islands generic containers are very aesthetically pleasing. otherwise the aesthetics of my pantry bring great shame
Can't find a copy of the story online but it's available in a book called "100 Wicked Little Witch Stories" (in case anyone was curious)
My grandfather was a Catholic deacon and read this in seminary (not the modernized version though). I probably should have kept his textbooks in retrospect.
Original Title "The Lives of the Fathers, Martyrs, and Other Principal Saints"
lol they threw her like 200 dollars for 250 words
jia is off maternity leave I guess, she published a book review and a "short story" as an amazon kindle single...? not two dollars for 27 pages...(ok looking at the others none are 30 or more pages, why?? I would feel embarrassed charging for less than 50 pages, this program is so weird and I think I've never seen it get any press attention or explanation)
Perhaps it is just among my social circle but I’ve certainly seen it abused. not that children’s books really count , but I’ve seen it all over socials
here's the book this is from, which is filled with stuff like this (I think! I haven't actually copped it yet) https://smile.amazon.com/Heavenly-Bodies-Treasures-Spectacular-Catacombs/dp/0500251959/ref=sr_1_2?dchild=1&keywords=saints+bodies&qid=1611119883&sr=8-2
Well Assange was the very public face of Wikileaks, if (when) he gets sent to Gitmo it's not going to be because he thought NordVPN was protecting him. And my point I guess was less that OP needs to worry about the FBI and more that VPNs aren't as bulletproof as the advertising wants you to think. Hell, even Facebook and Google are good enough at fingerprinting to deanonymize the average person so if you're buying a VPN to hide from them, save your money. It's literally just good for torrenting and region locks.
For maximum anonymity, you can buy VPN accounts for bitcoin (at drastically reduced prices) at places like Bitify.
I've been using a NordVPN account purchased here, and the subscription is active through 2021. Only paid 5 dollars for it!
>Are there certain classic films that are simply uncancelable?
The ones you own.
You could fit ~320 Blu-ray quality movies on something like this.
That would be nice to have, wouldn't it?
found it, but that isn't Sam Kriss, the guy has an American accent (if you want to hear what Sam Kriss sounds like listen to the old whale vomit episodes with Amber)
days of heaven (streaming) and out of the blue, which is a torrent
days of heaven is pretty good and the hopper film has been on my list for a while. at least, i assume it's the hopper one, there's a few other movies with that name
don't say i never did anything for you
if you learn about politics from wikipedia and reddit you'll go around being scared of nazbols, which are kind of imaginary demon invented to teach small children they have to vote for joe biden.
so if you want to understand PMC, I would give the ehrenreichs another try. (this bit was written in 2013, and acknowledges all the things that have changed since they first proposed the term.) with respect to neoliberalism, a good and short introduction is david harvey's, which you can steal here. i find it a little frustrating when people act as if these concepts are woolly and ill-defined because the only things they know about them have been picked up by osmosis from other people who also don't understand them.
Link to the channel is in the post and here too. Cytube is a place to stream video for free in a group watch setting, and I've set up a Red Scare channel. Sign up for an account if you haven't already (though you can watch anonymously too). If there's other things people want to watch afterwards, suggest them here, preferably with a link to a video file (an archive.org or youtube link is ideal). See you there!
>"ive read a little bit in "The Portable Jung"; i've never met a "serious Jungian". i think people should be skeptical of him, if not downright hostile of fascists like him because he intellectualizes all the esoteric/magic/alchemy stuff theyre into, ideas like "collective unconscious" are nonsense in any sense other than that of race science."
I also realized u/liquidpebbles made one two months ago in the other color scheme and I should’ve checked on here before doing this. If you want to download the original image without the artifacts Reddit introduces, here it is
If you're okay with the chinese ones that probably steal your data, you can get two off-brand rgb ones that work off of wifi for ~$20 per pair and they work pretty well

I'm reading a collection of short horror stories called Worse Things Waiting. They're not all great to be honest, but I overall really like it. My favorite monster it introduced is a "gardinel", a giant Venus flytrap style plant that takes the form of a house and eats people.

Look around for this book on library genesis or scribd. I found it several years ago and printed it out. Great stuff that you'll never get bored of. An nobody plays like this.
im in uk tho but yeah it rocks, works with every model.
i recommend getting a dedicated metal pry tool as well.
after that look up “(whatever model u have) replacement lcd digitizer” for a new screen. if you don’t mind losing fingerprint scanning its a super easy like 5 min replacement usually, or u can do a more involved one and transfer your home button, camera etc. over
Damn I have access to a lot of private trackers and found nothing. Your best bet is buying the DVD on Amazon for $20.
I am a 29 year old straight male who's been doing differin/retin-A + sunscreen religiously for years and I look minimum 5 years younger than all my college friends & their haggard-ass fiances.

seconding skipping. it has similar appeal to swimming/running. I'd recommend a PVC rope though, like https://www.amazon.com/RUSH-ATHLETICS-Speed-Rope-Adjustable/dp/B0798SKDNX. for some reason a lot of people online recommend light wire-thin ropes which are harder and not as satisfying to use. a heavier rope means you can feel the rope's weight shifting downwards easily, and it works out your arms a bit more.
In high school, my group of guy friends and another group of guys had a several week long "nut shot" war where we, well, tried really hard to gang up on each other and hit each other in the balls.
We deliberately adopted the genital showing game from the movie "Waiting..." and the first day we really just spent all day flashing our testicles at one another. Although, get this, we decided we couldn't do anything with the penis -- just the balls -- because otherwise that would be too gay.
One of our friends apparently hung dong and took a bunch of pictures of his dick in this adult penis pop up book and always tried to get us to look at the pictures. I made it up until near the end of senior year until I got got. He did truly hang dong.
There was honestly a bunch that I'm not even recalling but that's some of the best stuff. Penis tip of the iceberg.
Actually, this ($1.58 used!) isn't bad and others in the series - as a place to start.
Also, Suze Orman is pretty good too. I haven't really used or dug too deep into her various books or products but I believe she's pretty solid on the basics. Looks like she has primer type books as well. She has this weird, asexual vibe but she's pretty committed especially to providing women with the tools to be financially independent and savvy - and obviously the same info applies even if you aren't female.
I've known plenty of very successful and smart people who don't know their ass from their elbow when it comes to money/finance - so don't feel bad, you can be pretty competent in short order (I'm likewise pretty daft when it comes to legal stuff although I'm getting better!). If/when it comes time to open a brokerage account (which can be useful even if you don't trade stocks), I'd go with Schwab. They've been the best for a while now (for retail investors) and I've worked directly with them all

You phoney leftists sure do love defending right-wing bullshit people.
This is a constant source of frustration in my life. For context I'm about 5' 7" (short king) and about 145lb, average/slim build. I don't like a baggy fit, and particularly annoying to me is when the arm holes assume you have huge biceps and tent up, looking terrible.
I like ProtonVPN
One of NordVPN and ExpressVPN (but I can't remember which, maybe both) was compromised at some point
There's also — the simplist and probably the fastest of all them but it doesn't offer full protection since your real IP address is still exposed
I read the Modern Library Classics "slipcase" edition of the sequence (https://www.amazon.com/Search-Lost-Time-Library-Classics/dp/0812969642/ref=sr_1_2?crid=1OM2LJM34TG6&dchild=1&keywords=in+search+of+lost+time&qid=1596656830&s=books&sprefix=in+search+of+lost%2Caps%2C166&sr=1-2), translated by Montcrieff and Kilmartin, and then later revised by Enright. Not the best judge of whether this is the "best" translation (I don't speak French so can't really compare with the English) but I definitely loved the prose itself, as you can imagine it's quite lyrical and sublime.
Couldn’t hold onto the bar let alone a pull-up few years ago but this thing is adjustable for progression too. Kinda annoying to set up at the gym but still works.
Dude you need to calm down. You sound like you’re spiraling and taking it out on women out of desperation or something and it’s not a good look. You know how you actually get women in a healthy and productive way? Be a level headed, healthy person who isn’t angry, insecure, and full of weird resentment and self pity. Stop making getting pussy the center of your focus. Develop positive habits, be social, find some hobbies, get involved in something, and you will have a much easier time dating and interacting with women. I’d also really recommend you read this book. Most “dating” advice/media out there (especially on the internet) is pua/red pilled horseshit so please avoid, but this one has a premise that is at least honest and positive; I think it might actually help you.
I use this litter attractant that’s worked pretty well for my former stray who was having litter box issues
What are you interested in philosophy-wise? I've always been partial to Epistemology, I read a bit of Ernest Sosa's and Laurence Bonjour's Argument some time ago and found it very fascinating but I will admit to understanding very little hahaha.
Dignified hobbies are anything of the old gentry. Anything Equestrian, Fencing, or Chess perhaps.
i love moon juice i don’t care if it’s tacky, power + brain dusts are great and way better than sakara metabolism powder in taste and physical effects. i drink a crapload of green tea (antioxidants) and mint tea (skin glow). i like this metabolism powder and it tastes better / is cheaper per volume than the moon juice one. i’m not vegan but i hate whey protein and vega proteins + greens is great, it’s pea protein with extra greens. i mix the vega protein w the moon juice dusts, some cocoa powder and oatmilk in a blender bottle for breakfast. they sell chlorophyll tonic tinctures on amazon and they taste better than any powder and i didn’t experience any differences when i switched, usually i add that to the tea.
it’s great to take 5-HTP supplements for like 3 days in a row every couple months, like a huge serotonin hit but don’t take too much or it’ll mess with your stomach. l-tyrosine supplements in combination with dopa mucuna / velvet bean supplements is a good 1-2 dopamine punch, don’t expect stimulant level effects but it’s good when combined w/ moon juice brain dust imo. i take it on the days i don’t take my adderall
this is like mostly skin glow and nootropics but w.e good luck out there
This is completely wrong. "Hipster" has existed for nearly 100 years and the Williamsburg hipster was such a well-known phenomenon in the early 2000s that this was published.
Check this guy out, I feel like RS would like him
Sure! From what I remember... So the novel is actually a 999-line poem, and then contains another document with 'notes' from the poet as to how it should be read (which is another novel, alongside the first 'poem'). You can see the entire original set here: https://www.amazon.ca/Pale-Fire-Poem-Cantos-Shade/dp/1584234318
Nabokov intended it to be physically read like this, so you have the cards next to the lines of the poem to compare. It makes much more sense if you do.
The poem has four cantos, of which each of them contains a big theme that Nabokov sets out to explore and finds an answer to within the poem. You can shuffle them and read them arbitrarily, but they kind of change the overall meaning of the book depending on the order you read them.
Now, I only remember one of them, which deals with kind of the randomness of life, and how searching for deeper meaning only brings you towards something random, which has some kind of deeper, mysterious beauty that should be appreciated.
These were the lines my professor pointed in that canto and which have stuck with me over the years:
Life Everlasting — based on a misprint!
I mused as I drove homeward: take the hint.
And stop investigating my abyss?
But all at once it dawned on me that this
Was the real point, the contrapuntal theme;
Just this: not text, but texture; not the dream
But topsy-turvical coincidence,
Not flimsy nonsense, but a web of sense.
Yes! It sufficed that I in life could find
Some kind of link-and-bobolink, some kind
Of correlated pattern m the game,
Plexed artistry, and something of the some
Pleasure in it as they who played it found.
The blue and brown notebooks are much more accessible and not nearly as long or daunting as philosophical investigations. They're lectures that he gave at Cambridge in the 1930s. I would start with that, it's absolutely fascinating.
Actually, I would start by reading his bio, The Duty of Genius. Then I would read the blue and brown notebooks.
For classic avant-garde manga I would recommend two artists; Seiichi Hayashi if you are interested more in the art side of manga, Yoshiharu Tsuge if you're more interested in storytelling. There are not too many English translations of their work so just read anything you can find.
The magazine Glaeolia is the best English resource for modern artistically-minded manga, although my favorite artist working in the format is panpanya whose only translated book An Invitation from a Crab is published by Denpa Books.
For movies, check out the work of Nagisa Oshima, Teshigahara Hiroshi, Shohei Imamura and Masaki Kobayashi.
Yaujiro Ozu and Kenji Mizoguchi are widely considered the greatest Japanese directors and while I agree I don't think their movies are as entertaining as the others I listed. I love Ozu and Mizoguchi but for someone just trying to get into Japanese cinema I would recommend movies like Harakiri (1962), The Face of Another (1966), The Eel (1997), Merry Christmas Mr. Lawrence (1983).
My favorite documentary of all time is also one of the best Japanese movies of all time: The Emperor's Naked Army Marches On (1987).
I bounced around various types when I started playing but once I tried these bad boys I have used nothing else since. Electric and acoustic both
Generally speaking it's not so much 'thickness' as it is that lots of smaller gauge picks are plastic that bend a LOT and give that click-click sound when you use them. A good pick should not bend at all (or very little I should say) which gives your playing more clarity, response, and precision
If you honeymooned in Italy I think she would adore this book
May seem like an odd gift but I’ve given this series many times, the illustrations are super charming and adults love them. They look sweet on a desk
Kaczynski: Insular American narcissist who would have lived a quiet academic life in any country where Marx and Freud are still widely read.
This edition of the Manifesto sums up the impact of his ideas in the grand scheme of things:
I think it’s called a clavicle brace. Hard to explain in words so this is what mine looks like. I got it years ago though, so there may be newer better versions out there now.
Not sure. A remastered version of Iggy's mix was reissued on vinyl* (along with Bowie's original mix) back in 2012 and sounds as amazing as this one. That one should be easy to find.

> According to SimilarWeb’s analysis, the top two countries with the highest share of adult websites are Iraq and Egypt, two socially conservative countries that many wouldn’t have previously thought would factor in the top 10. Rounding out the category are predominantly European nations with the likes of Japan and Peru making up the Asian and South American contingent.
> For Basquiat, majesty is employed as both a narrative device and a “protective shield” that is mean “to [preserve] the vulnerable underlying layers by absorbing the chief intensity of the energy that assaults the organism.” Though the appearance of the word “HALOES” in the upper-left hand corner suggests that while Charlie Parker was also a saint in Basquiat’s canon, kinghood and its attendant charms and burdens resolutely takes precedence in Charles the First.
You can buy it on Amazon if you really want to read more of this.
I would recommend reading Built from Broken, I had a shoulder/upper back injury a year ago that is still lingering, went to PT which helped a bit but the book has really helped me understand my injury, why it's so fucking annoying and what to do to heal it. Long story short, ice+rest will alleviate symptoms but will not address the underlying issue. You're not wrong about the repetitive stress but the only way to solve that is to build strength.
https://www.amazon.com/Secret-Agenda-Watergate-Deep-Throat/dp/1504075285/
What I'm trying to suggest with that link is: All the Presidents Men is one of the best movies ever made but perhaps not an accurate/full picture of what was going on with Watergate.
I restored a garden at a rental property I lived in a few years back, built raised beds and a basic greenhouse, and we just winged trying to grow a few things - had more failures/deaths than successes.
When we got our own place we were determined to improve the yields, and we just bodged along remembering what went wrong (i.e. greenhouse too damp, pots too small, soil wrong ph for fruit tree, etc.).
We also bought some good guides. I'd highly recommend this for a general starter - if you've got a big yard it might not be so necessary, but starting small can be a good way to keep an eye on all your crops without too much hassle, and without losing a whole batch to pests/bad conditions.
https://www.amazon.com/UFOs-Nukes-Revealed-Expanded-Directors/dp/B075SR2ZYV Saw it years ago, hope it isn't scrubbed but this was it :)
UFOs and Nukes is a good book
https://www.amazon.com/Nukes-Extraordinary-Encounters-Nuclear-Weapons/dp/1434398315
There were over 150 UFO sightings at US nuclear missile silos. To work at a nuclear missile silo during the Cold War you had to: 1) undergo extensive psych testing to make sure you were sane and not at risk of trying to start a nuclear war, 2) the cream of the crop of the military and not some yokel who was serving a few years during the draft, 3) had extensive military training and knew what all military aircraft would look like, and what aircraft were capable of, 4) no reason to lie to threaten their career.
There is an old Coast to Coast episode from around 2008 or 2009 where they interview the guy who wrote the book along with a few Air Force personnel who share their stories. The author of the book seems a bit unhinged and believes their presence was a benevolent force to prevent nuclear war, but the military men who saw it just believe in what they saw and don't extrapolate beyond the facts they feel comfortable sharing.
