I didn’t really want to dish out 20 bucks on a Furminator so I got this cheap alternative. I can’t really say if it works just as well as the Furminator, but it definitely did the job.

This looks like what I bought, but I didn't buy it from Amazon. I guess you could call it a mat.
I don't think it was meant to be frozen, but it works. I have had to replace two because of a hole, but nothing with massive leaks.
In the beginning, I put a sheet over it, to avoid the dog being directly on ice, but eventually, he used it without the sheet.
When the weather was too hot, he would be on the mat, in front of a fan, and not move until it had melted. Then he would expect it to be replaced.
Spoiled dog...
Furminator is not a good choice for sammies...they are designed rip/cut out undercoat, which shouldn't be done to a sammy.
We use something like this for an undercoat rake provided to us when we picked up our dog.
Congrats on your new addition!! Make sure you take TONS of photos of her while she's this little. Everyone told us to take pictures of Elsa while she was little and then suddenly she was 45lbs instead of the 7.5 lbs she was when we got her at 9 weeks :(
We had a thread here a while ago.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Scruffs-BED-RCD-934613-Cool/dp/B00VTTO0RK
Get a Scruffs mat, put it in the freezer. When frozen, put it on the floor in front of a fan. Forget walks, except for early morning and late night.
I had to get several mats. When one wasn't cool enough, he demanded a new one.
While my Sammy loved his ice mat, it took some getting used to before he understood the purpose.
My puppy never got it bad but the breeder recommended daily wiping with sterile cloth and saline solution.
Also my samoyed has a real sensitive stomach but I recently discovered he doesn't have a problem with full moon chicken jerky. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01EX0H12M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_glt_fabc_VMEVEB5TNBGTKXJ96KZ4?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
They don't agree with his stomach but he also loves the merrick power bites. Any flavor.
We got them on Amazon! Here is the link: Grey Gates
They worked really well for the first month but she's figured them out, so we got these instead, they are impossible to escape. Here is the link: White Gates
Just throwing this out here after reading your post. I would avoid a human hair dryer. It's too easy to burn the dog. Use a high pressure blower like the one incorporated into this shopvac: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0023EY052/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1 5 HP is strong enough to blow the water off and keep the dog safe. If you get an extra length of hose you can actually keep the motor in one room making noise while you have the blowing end in another room with the dog. It's a lot faster too.
As far as exercising in the heat and humidity goes I'm in Florida so pre-sunset and dusk walks every day are a must. Since you have a pup maybe you could turn them into run-walks. Good exercise for you and the dog.
> Yeti's owner makes it sound as though she can not walk Yeti because he's too strong for her.
This is entirely a training issue. Persistence and patience will get you a dog that doesn't pull at all. Females are a bit easier since they're smaller but also they don't need to lunge for every tree to sniff & pee on it. Sammy's like to be independent and push their boundaries.
Grooming isn't as bad as it's made out to be I feel, it seems like a lot of owners will tell you they brush their dog for hours every day. I brush mine about once a week for 10-15 minutes, unless he's shedding heavily and then it'll be about 30 minutes. Every 2-3 months I do a full grooming which takes a while, 30 min bath, 1 hr dry (with blower), 1 hr brushing, 1 hr vaccuming all the hair that's now everywhere. I find it helps to brush the day before + day after as well.
I recommend a double rake, I rarely use the comb that is so widely recommended -https://smile.amazon.com/rake-deshedding-dematting-brush-comb/dp/B01M14GWS2/ref=sr_1_3
A flea comb, or if they're absolutely stuck, a letter opener like this one to softly cut one or two strands to loosen the knot
Our trainer suggested using a hand held bicycle pump (like this or this). His issue was barking at us when we were in the living room watching tv or chatting and not playing with him. That same area is where we keep his toy box he has access to. We used that and it fixed the issue so fast. We had been ignoring barking his whole life, so a lot of ground work was already laid. The pump makes a noise that scares them. If needed, you can also spray their sides (never the face). It is just air so it will not hurt, but it does startle. After using it 2-3 times we just showed it to him if he barked and he would quiet or awoo (which we allow).
I live in Canada and have struggled with this every winter of my damn life lol. For what it’s worth, the best solution I’ve found is to buy big boxes of these hand warmers (https://www.amazon.com/HotHands-Hand-Warmers-Odorless-Activated/dp/B0007ZF4OA) at costco, and tuck one in each glove on the inside of my wrist. It makes a huge difference and does keep my fingers warm. I also often tuck one in my boots on the inside of my ankle when it’s super cold and my toes stay warm. It’s wasteful however, since the warmers are disposable. If someone has a better solution for actual heated gloves that work as well I also want to know!
My sam loves dressing up she is called betty-boo, with the collar she becomes disco-boo, the bat costume batty-boo etc, people love seeing her running around in this village dresses up :)
I have this one: https://www.amazon.fr/gp/product/B089PVSK17 IMHO it's a little better.
Try a flying purple pig… Everything that’s been said, so far is true… It takes time to fluff these floofs out… I use a combination of shake, towels, and the purple flying pig, which has both heat and speed control… Put them on a a good table and a good overhead leash system and you’ll be good to go.
Just keep the bathroom door closed and if you have a window open it…. It’ll look like it’s snowing outside
Nope this was also a cat bed from Amazon that our cat ignored. He is already too big for it and usually finds an AC vent on the wood floor to sleep on instead.
White Pine Collar (martingale collar with quick release) and Max & Neo Nylon Leash
Really great suggestions so far. I also used crate games for crate training. You could try using a slow feeder like this if you think it would be beneficial to get him to slow down and attempt closing the door at meal times.
It sounds like your sam is incredibly anxious either about being closed in the crate or you being gone. I'd absolutely start training with you at home to figure out what he has a problem with because right now it seems like he's so anxious he's not in a place where he will be able to calm himself. If you know what about it scares him you can try to break it down to be easier on him to work up to whatever amount of time you need to crate him for. I agree that medication might be a tool to utilize if you and your vet feel it would be beneficial.
I saw that leaving him out has had mixed results. I couldn't leave my older boy (now 5) out when I left home until about 4 years old. He'd do ok most days, but then get a tv remote or something and I'm not risking him eating a battery or something else bad. Is he ok with being left out if you aren't there? Wondering if you could puppy proof an area using a gated doorway and/or a puppy pen to keep him from deciding cabinets or baseboards look tasty. I've gated the little one (I have a 5 month old as well lol) to the kitchen, out a gate in the doorway and then kinda lined the walls that have cabinets with the pen just to protect the cabinets more than contain him. If you can find a temporary confinement solution that isn't the crate while you work on crate training in smaller sessions it might go a long way.
I'm so sorry you both are going through this. I wish you guys the best.
What kind of crate is it? If it has semi solid sides - or if the covering is heavy - she might be getting hot in the crate.
Definitely second the cooling mat, too - this is the one we have.
Thanks for reply, I would very much like to choose a k9II, but unfortunately as with any American quality product, it is nigh impossible to ship into my country for some strange postal status quo…. Alas, I am left with nothing but look for european alternatives and from what I searched for, I found some promising models like the X-Power double motor dog dryer.
I have only one question: from what I saw, most vendors indicate the horsepower of the dog dryer and me being new in the field I don’t really have a reference value to what would be minimally or averagely good for a Sammy (e.g. saw this dog dryer, SKSYZN Dog Hair Dryer Pet Hair Dryer 3200 W / 4.3 HP Motor Infinitely Adjustable Speed Pet Dog Grooming Dryer Blower with 4 Different Nozzles and Pet Care Glove https://www.amazon.de/dp/B092JBBYR3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_VY62SDRDN1D4WTNSCWRE , that advertises a 4.3 Horsepower, but I don’t know if this is good or not enough for blowdrying a sammy’s coat during shedding?
I got it off Amazon, we got the colour that matches our actual Sofa.
PawHut Modern Pet Sofa Cat or Large Dog Bed W/ Removable Seat Cushion, Light Grey https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B09PBMT121/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_PQGSF56V9P261ERTED41?psc=1
Try a snuggle puppy! We didn't use the heat pack, but having the heart beats definitely helped calm her down.
Is she in a wire crate? If her crate is plastic, they can really throw some heat and get pretty hot.
We just gave her a thin fleece blanket in her crate. She usually pushes it out of the way, but it makes me feel better to give her something cozy 😂
For the first week, we'd turn the heartbeat on in the snuggle puppy, put her in her crate, and then I'd lie down next to her and talk to her until she fell asleep. I'd set an alarm for 2am ish to take her outside and then we'd get up for the day whenever she woke up (around 6). After the first week, she was sleeping through the night so we didn't do the midnight potty unless she woke up.
Bedtime routine definitely helps, too. Make sure you have the same routine - let her out, turn on the heartbeat in the snuggle puppy, put her to bed, talk to her until she falls asleep, etc.
This is what I got… works great!

I found these Tuffy's toys to be really sturdy. I liked this large figure-8 version very well when my girl was teething and doing the puppy bite attacks. It was great to intercept her biting and could be used as a play/tug toy while keeping my hands out of harm's way. https://www.chewy.com/tuffys-ultimate-3-way-tug-squeaky/dp/132139
Both of my Sammy girls chewed their crate beds until they got to, I don't know(?), six months old or so. Don't put anything in the crate with them that they can destroy or choke on. I used Benebones or Kongs, nothing plush or stuffed with foam.
Once they got older I did/do use a moderate foam crate pad.
We also have one Kirkland bed for each. It's useful for us in teaching the dog "place" or "go to your bed." We trained the girls lie on their beds while we are eating dinner. They do go on them for naps on their own from time to time.
I've never really used a blanket for my girls.
Not who you asked, but we got this one.
Our puppy isn't quite five months, but she hasn't destroyed any of her beds and only a couple toys.
Most sammies don't like sleeping on their nice beds you buy them, but pee on them 🥲 I suggest not splurging on one.
Also look up indestructible squeak toys, I find that both my sammies only really like squeaky toys. But if they're made of fabric of any type, they rip it apart to eat the fluff 💀
I recently bought this toy from Amazon that is pretty durable. Get some durable squeak balls too! I've linked them below.

Okay, what you want is a stainless steel comb like These. My parents used to show Samoyeds and everybody they knew who also showed this breed had at least one of these in their grooming arsenal.
What brushes have you been using?
I’ve been using this slicker with longer pins that really help get to the skin better, and then line comb with the vintage greyhound comb. Where is your puppy picking up the dirt/dust from?
I've been using this beginner friendly dryer on my pup for almost a year now. Very powerful and affordable(79usd)! Wanted to try something out before committing to something expensive, definitely worth it! Gets my pup dried within less than 1hr! I think it was recommended on some Samoyed grooming blog for beginner friendly tools. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06WLQPJ58/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_i_WFD6VPRPNR03PE97RTKA?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

Is it consistently smelly, or just immediately after outdoor activities? I notice mine gets a sweaty dog stench to her if she's just come inside, but it usually fades once she's cooled off a bit. We typically go 3+ months between baths. I'd second others' opinions on making sure it's not coming from diet, needing anal glands expressed, etc. if it seems to be a strong, constant smell.
You could also try something like this if it's just a general, mild dog odor. We tend to spritz Mozz with it if we're planning on being in the car a while or have company over and it'll keep her smelling sweet for a few days before it wears off.
I’ve heard a lot of good things from fellow Samoyed owners about K-9 dryers. I was advised to try out the Flying Pig pet dryer as a more cost effective alternative as well, so I purchased the Flying Pig dryer a few years ago. So far, I love it! It makes drying my boy much quicker and has been pretty durable. Here’s where I purchased mine:
https://www.chewy.com/flying-pig-grooming-simple-home-dog/dp/158276
Those are the two brands that I hear about most often (I tend to hear that K-9s are amazing but pricier) but I’m still learning too (my Sammy just turned 4 a few months ago and it’s still a big adventure, haha)🙂 Congratulations on your new puppy!!
This Tuffy's Ultimate 3-Way Tug Squeaky Plush Dog Toy was great for a small teething puppy. It's veeery sturdy and I could hold one end while pup attacked the opposite and and bit and pulled with her sharp puppy teeth. My hands were far enough away from her so they stayed safe 😅! It's 24 inches long. https://www.chewy.com/tuffys-ultimate-3-way-tug-squeaky/dp/132139
Ours is Frisco specifically, but there are tons of similar brands:
https://www.chewy.com/frisco-steel-framed-elevated-dog-bed/dp/139414
Miku is ~45lbs and she still fits fairly comfortably on the medium, but I don't think getting a large would hurt if you have the space. I like that they also sell replacement covers in case you need one. It's by far Miku's favorite "bed" to lay in.
It's a Kong bone!
https://www.chewy.com/kong-classic-goodie-bone-dog-toy/dp/44207
It has holes on either side where we usually put a bully stick in there for her. She'll chew on it until it gets short and then try to maneuver it out.
I actually had two older models of this Outward Hound carrier. One I got for like $5 on clearance identical to the one I had my dog in when he was a young puppy and so I passed it around to some of my friends on r/dogs when they had their puppies for the few weeks they'd need them. This was my dog at 10 weeks in that carrier when we took him into the city.
I find it pretty useful until they're about 10 or 11 weeks especially for smaller Sammies. Usually by that time they have their second set of shots so in most areas I'd feel pretty comfortable having them waddle around on concrete, maybe a little cautious around highly-trafficked dirt and grass. Always a good idea to ask your vet at the first visit what the parvo risk is in the area because that will vary by location.
Heya! For Mozz we have two of these bowls attached to the inside of her crate and she gets maybe half a cup of food and two cups of water when she goes down for the night. She usually wakes up in the middle of the night and grazes a bit, and that seems to tide her over until morning! We also noticed she is willing to sleep in later when she has access to food/water overnight.
Are you using a Chris Christiansen comb? Or one like this?
Resco Combination Comb 1 1/2 -Inch tooth length with Medium and Coarse Tooth spacing https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002U4MQ1K/ref=cm_sw_r_apan_glt_fabc_NQ32WTQPJZ1A9X1C68X7?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1
I have two types of beds for Her Majesty, an Elevated Mesh Cot, which she likes to hide her toys under, and her cooling mat. She likes them both pretty well.
Paws can be dirty and transmit bacteria to the ears. Clean his paws including between his toes with an appropriate wipe and clean his ears again with the appropriate solution.
If the condition persists, please visit your vet.
If you're interested in the 004 for a Sammy, I (as well as multiple comb vendors) would probably steer you to the Buttercomb 000 instead of the 004.
The 004 will do a good job, but the reason the 000 tends to be more recommended is that you have a coarse side and a fine side. The coarse side will be a similar width to the 004 and when you linecomb a section you haven't done in awhile it's good to start with the wider teeth. However, the fine teeth spacing is literally perfect for linecombing once you go over a section with the coarse side on pretty much any Samoyed coat.

On a separate note, this comic is one of my favorite Samoyed things. I recommend reading the series because it’s both hilarious and a painfully accurate depiction of having a Samoyed, at least for me haha.
Well I wouldn't hold him until he calms down or try to hold his head. I can certainly see how this could upset a puppy. If your young child were having a meltdown you would just try to distract them and wait them out, you would never hold them down. And lots of dogs don't like physical restraint anyway. I got this toy for my puppy. It's large (and very sturdy) so it worked pretty well as a blocker against a biting puppy. Try to get them to bite the toy then turn it into a game of tug. https://www.chewy.com/tuffys-ultimate-3-way-tug-squeaky/dp/132139 Kikopup also has a nice video called "Capturing Calmness." I did this with both of my dogs and it helped them to be calmer just in general.
My girlfriend and I both have this one, velcro to cover the seat bucket holes and has sides the attach around the handles above the rear seats.
This is the harness we bought.
We take him snowboarding with us, so I wanted him to stick out and have reflective stickers so people could see him from a mile away. His recall is 100%, so he never wanders from us, however, he’s white, so in all the snow sometimes he can be out of sight for others! This harness is definitely heavy, and he hates it, but it’s for his safety! Cheers!
Yes but don't get a cheap one. It will get the hairs caught in it. You need to invest in ones with special brushes that are designed for hair. One like this

I have this, never washed my dog. (Yes this is french i don't know the english name)
If anyone is curious I wrote a kids book about my experience with my first samoyed.Because I loved my Neighbor

We have two Samoyeds and just use this once every other week on them for about 45 mins each. It takes some getting used to on the dogs part, but once they’re fine with it they’ll very rarely have to get brushed outside of force during time and it dramatically reduces the amount of time we have to spend brushing. Not to mention it helps with drying after a bath/swim with otherwise can take almost 2 days. I know it’s alot but it will pay for itself after only 2 grooming sessions where I live.
Thanks for the tips! As for Dasuquin, is this the one you use? Did they have any issues when they initially started taking them?
I use this Spectrum One conditioner by Chris Christensen periodically when giving my pup baths, mostly just on his hind legs and tail area, it makes it easier to brush him. The shampoo in the same product line works great on it’s own, too. Usually a spray bottle with water is sufficient unless I’ve been slacking on keeping up with it.
Here are some conditioners I've seen recommended: Cowboy Magic - conditioner "The Stuff For Dogs" conditioner Pet Silk Liquid Silk Serum ** note that many of these products can make your floors a skating rink, ideally apply outdoors and wait until fully dry to bring pup inside. You can join Facebook's Samoyed Grooming - lots of breeders and experienced show folks answer questions posed there. If you are unable to detangle and combing is becoming painful to your pups, or are having matting problems, or have a spay/neuter coat, or if you aren't able to dry the skin under impacted fur and are risking hotspots, you could cut into it very slightly with thinning shears, use a Mars Coat King, or break up any mats close to the skin with a letter opener like this https://smile.amazon.com/Uncommon-Desks-Colorful-Letter-Openers/dp/B07QD3BYH7/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=plastic+letter+opener&qid=1628559794&sr=8-3
Furminators are indeed not the best for a Sammy. Not only does it hurt their coat by ripping and cutting, but it can hurt them too. Settle for a nice metal comb made for dogs and an undercoat rake. The rake helps a lot with shedding but unlike the furminator it only pulls out the lose fur and doesn't cut it. My Sammy likes that much more than the furminator I've attached the brushing utensils we use for shedding and detangling. I love these two as they work really well.

I have this one and like it: https://www.amazon.ca/Waterpik-PPR-252-Shower-Attachment-Indoor-Outdoor/dp/B01N4LM3SV/ Yes it's made by the teeth cleaner people.

and doggy bags but don't fold down to a smaller size if you don't mind bringing around a slightly larger item:
First-time dog owner? Congrats! Take puppy classes. They are to train you, not so much your dog. Sams aren't the easiest for a first-time dog, but keep at it and keep learning.
There's videos on youtube showing how people do it with the comb, but my sammy HATES it. I think it pulls too much.
Instead I use a double rake, something like this: https://www.amazon.com/rake-deshedding-dematting-brush-comb/dp/B01M14GWS2/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=double+rake&qid=1621798826&sr=8-3
It works really well and gets 90% of it done, then sometimes I'll go in with the comb after. I swear I've tried every type of comb out there at this point, and the double rake has been the best by far.
I did this in 45 minutes with the rake: https://i.imgur.com/71WXSXH.jpg

I've used these for over twenty years on dogs of all sizes. They do take patience though. You can't let the dog pull and choke himself the entire time, you want to tug gently to correct, let out slack, repeat, etc.
That should be fine for now especially while you're training! I think this is the closest for a cheap training double-looped leash that you can find on Amazon until you can hit up your local dog show vendors.
I combined this crate and xpen. Used this setup from 12 weeks to 1 year old. Wouldn’t recommend anything shorter than 30” for the pen. When my sammy got around 10 months old, I started teaching him agility tricks like jumping over low hurdles; it was only then he figured out he could get himself over the xpen... I stopped with the agility tricks for a couple weeks and noticed he never tried to hop over it again.
He also likes to lay right up against the walls of the xpen, so unless you have something to hold it in place or anchor it to the floor, it just ends up folding in on itself. I got creative and used 3M cable management hooks to temporarily secure the xpen to my tile floor and the thing never budged.
In my opinion, these two Midwest products are incredibly durable, sturdy, safe, easy to use, and easy to clean... I’ll probably never have to buy another in my lifetime. I also definitely second all the advice Mishka provided, including the Benebone— my dog was bonkers over his.

Play pens (generally called exercise pen or x-pen for dogs) and gating off rooms and areas are great for a puppy. It is easiest to house-train (and puppy-proof) if puppy is in a limited space. Just expand their area gradually as they get older.
Don't get a 24" exercise pen. They will leap out in about a day 🤦♀️.
For safety (theirs, and safety for your things) I would crate if you are out of the home. Look at Kikopup for crate training and separation training https://youtu.be/P8yc5Y9HGY4 Also Susan Garrett has some Crate Games to help puppy happily adjust to being in the crate. Don't leave bedding, towels, or stuffies in the crate with pup until you are sure they won't try to ingest them while you are not looking. It sounds mean, but the "crate pan only" didn't seem to bother mine, and it was SAFE. Once she got older and wouldn't chew it, we moved the pad back in. I like Benebone for healthy chew bones--they make puppy and adult versions. This one was a big favorite https://smile.amazon.com/Benebone-Dental-Aggressive-Chewers-Lasting/dp/B014JXJ2S4?pd_rd_w=X8wCc&pf_rd_p=4eebd874-436f-4f05-a794-09646834b2dd&pf_rd_r=TW8J1B1P7ZCG9FVDXS5C&pd_rd_r=1e7da065-a984-4ae0-a450-ca374bb36d01&pd_rd_wg=VAw9Z&a...
I personally don’t think the k9 dryers are worth the hundreds of dollars. A friend of ours recommended this one off amazon for only about $70 and it is quiet and fast. Definitely the budget option here. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07QSFC6PM/
It works great so far! The material is nice quality. Here it is on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B071HHY2NK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I bought mine on Amazon.

This is the exact product I got though there are many others like it in Amazon. Charlee (@charlee.thecloudbear) kept knocking her previous bowl over and splashing water everywhere. This prevents her from getting too messy, haha.
It's all the same drop-shipped Chinese stuff so it doesn't matter which brand you get really. I grabbed mine on Amazon for $10.

This is the crate we got; https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000QFT1RC
I like that it is easy to move and that it has an adjustable partition so you can adjust the inside as s/he grows. And it has a tray/pan underneath that is easy to remove and clean in case of accidents.
We also go this water bowl to put inside so ours have access to water while in it. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000MD3NLS/
Lmao that was totally an unintentional pun 😂
For what it's worth I don't believe a pin brush with balls is the cardinal sin show people make it out to be, but these ball-less ones are definitely far superior brushes just in general.
I have a 20mm oblong pin brush. I am debating getting a wider one (more like regular hairbrush sized) to go with it, but I like the versatility of the smaller one. It can do feet, feathers, under ears, etc.
This Resco Comb is the one Catherine and I use and IT IS AMAZING (and slightly cheaper than the one you linked although the purple sparklyness of yours is mighty tempting).
Oh that's fun!! So awesome to see dogs still going strong at 10 🤩
I use the Furminator Grooming Rake Furminator Rake
It has rotating “teeth” which makes it easy to get through small knots. It also is super easy to clean, and the teeth’s movement makes the hair stick together really well, so it’s not just falling off the brush.
I don’t have a Samoyed (how i want one...), but I have a wooly (long coat) husky who absolutely loves it. It doesn’t seem to cause her any irritation like some of the other rakes I’ve used!
Walky Dog (which you can find on Amazon) is the most well-known and quality one. The Springer attachment is another.
I bought a cheapy cheap one (something like this) and it works just fine with my dog. My dog however was already in good condition, has directionals well enough on cue, has no prey drive that he'll act on/won't pull dangerously, and naturally paces at a gait comfortably.
We use a back clip, non-restrictive harness with it.
Unsure if you can get this where you are, but this rake is pretty close to the one we have and it is the one grooming tool our breeder sends home with every puppy.
Are you flying the pup home in cargo or as a carry on? If the former, I would just ask the breeder about what size 10-week-olds would be in their line and get the appropriate airline-approved kennel (I think it differs between carriers). If the latter, I would actually see what the airline regulations are about the size of a carrier since it will need to fit underneath the seat. I would then crosscheck this with the breeder to see if the puppy will fit comfortably under the seat at that age; otherwise, you'll have to go cargo.
Whatever you choose, I would suggest to get something off of Amazon or something and just ship it to the breeder's address. It'll mean less luggage for you and more time for the breeder to get the puppy acquainted with the cramped space it'll have to be comfortable with for the duration of your flight.
I flew my 9-week-old male puppy in this underneath a Jetblue seat. He was the largest one in his litter and he barely fit in that carrier, which barely fit under the seat. I expanded the carrier during the flight (zipped up only when landing and taking off),and he just slept through the entire thing.
I used to use their soft slip collar and they are really nice, but my guy was too much of a puller when he was excited and he would choke the crap out of himself. They basically are a martingale collar, just made out of a soft nylon. If your dog isn't a puller at all, they're really soft / gentle and don't leave fur marks.
I've ended up moving to just not having a collar on him most of the time (apartment life) and after trying several kinds of harnesses I've settled on this one: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B01LW5128J/
Using the front clip avoids pulling because it pulls him off to the side. It's really adjustable and doesn't need to go over his head (i had a ruffwear he hated for that reason). When he does start pulling because he's excited / being an asshole, I can control him without him struggling to breath.
Would highly recommend it rather than a collar for walking, but I still throw the soft slip on him when we're away from home and he needs ID for a few days.
Three tips: 1. Socialize like crazy! 2. If there's one thing you should have in your house it's this: https://www.amazon.com/Professional-Strength-Stain-Odor-Eliminator/dp/B00CKFL93K 3. It'll be tough for like two months, trust me they come a long way in a short time!
We also got our first samoyed (and first dog) three months ago!
Crate training works like a charm for the night! Also this article was a life-saver for our Sammy (it was too bad we read it too late (at like 4 month old)), hopefully you can start sooner and have better luck!
Also we used this turf potty training mat for training him indoors so that the surface was close to the grass/turf he used outdoors and didn't confuse him. In order to minimize cleaning, we placed training pads under the turf and that worked well for us. Make sure to treat him every time he goes on the mat indoors! :)
I give my pup these Jack and Pup bully sticks and have found they're very odorless. This Jumbo Thick size also helps it to last longer and he has to work harder at it. When he was younger, I would let him chew on the bullystick for 1.5 hours each day and found that 1 of these jumbo sticks lasted almost a week on average. He goes through the thinner sticks more quickly because he's able to chew pieces off more easily.
I came up with the name but wanted it spelled like Koda...however my wife said Coda because of this book:
https://www.amazon.com/Black-Noses-Coda-Polar-Bear-ebook/dp/B01HOWCVLC
She wanted some type of wintery meaning to his name.
It is all about being consistent, immediate consequences, and showing it right and wrong. If it pees or poops in the house, you need to catch it as it happens. Anything after, maybe can bring it to the accident, yell and bring it outside but it will be far less effective. I overdo my anger(i mean it is going to happen) and rush the puppy outside. When you take them outside and they pee/poop, offer a lot of praise.
Our current samoyed(16 weeks) was slower to train than our priors on other things, but she only had 1 or 2 poop accidents and 5 or 6 pees in the house. At night I made her sleep on the bed with us and now keep her in our room(she lays on a cool mat on the floor most of the night). She never peed in our bedroom. At first, I would bring her out maybe once in the middle of the night. During the day, I worked from home early on so she would be in her crate, or within site of me and I was pretty attentive. Of course, I kept her on tile or something easy to clean when possible. Being close and really bonding with the puppy will also likely make them care more what your reaction is.
In summary, immediate anger when they fail, praise when they do well. Bring the pee pads back, they are a crutch. There is no right place to pee in a house. When it does happen, this stuff is amazing for cleanup. Later you can use it for the occasional throw up or other bio issues.
Try Fromm That is what the animal shelter used on new dogs because of its track record for being easy to digest. Most dogs can switch in one meal and have normal stool immediately.
I use the green bag adult Fromm for my 2.5 year old. He's been on fromm for 10 months now, not gotten bored or anything.
All of that sounds pretty normal, we let Orion sleep uncrated (he did sleep in a crate up until he was 2 years old but now we can trust him 100% so the crate is optional) and he gets up a few times during the night to change position, have a drink of water etc. We use crate water buckets in our dogs' crates, they work very well.
At 8 months old he should be able to hold his bladder through the night even if he drinks, unless he has a UTI.
How much exercise does he get during the day? My dogs tend to sleep better the more exercise and playtime they get during the day, on slow days it takes them longer to settle down.
The X-pen I got for fencing mine indoors turned out to be too lightweight for other than temporary holding pen for my puppy. I gated off two rooms closest to the back door. You can get gates that are adjustable to a fairly wide range of opening, and get additional panels for making dividers. I got this one and it's held up well. She hasn't been able to climb it because the slats are mostly vertical.
*adding-gating has definitely been helpful when I want her to have some freedom outside the crate but can't keep my eye trained on her every second. She'll pick up anything not nailed down in a split second. Right now everything in my house is up on something counter height and pushed to the back. Getting a Samoyed puppy is a great incentive to minimize clutter ; )
This might sound a little odd but I recommend frozen bottles of water. Our puppy goes to bed in her crate with one. If I put one in the middle of the floor she'll take a nap with it. It really calms her down especially for down time or sleeping. I've been taking one along in the car when we have to drive somewhere like the vets. It has to be something with a fairly large cap that you can screw on tightly. Flat sided is good like a big juice bottle or Arizona Tea.
She only sleeps in her crate, which she likes to do, and once she's awake she's baby-gated into a tiled air-conditioned room that's been puppy proofed as she picks up everything she finds especially paper or plastic. I tried putting her into the bigger crate in "her" room and she had a crazy fit when I closed the door. So now I leave her gated because I don't want her to hate the bigger crate where she's going to have to eventually graduate to sleeping. This gate is pretty good and not that expensive. I got the taller version
My first one I didn't crate or gate off at all but with this one- I liken her to one of those rotary cutting machines they use for clearing trees and brush from the side of the highway.
Hers is fine, I've shown her at dog shows since the whole incident and none of the judges commented on her coat being wrong :)
Just make sure to brush him regularly, can also use a spray in conditioner to smooth any stray hairs out and make the coat easier to brush. This is my favorite one for my dogs.
Canned pumpkin is about $2.15 per can, though when I see them on sale I try to buy them in bulk and 1 can lasts me a week for 2 dogs.
Grizzly Pollock oil is $36.99 for 64 oz on Prime, lasts me for about 6 months for 2 dogs.
Solid Gold Seameal is $25 for a 1 lb tub, lasts me about 2.5 months for 2 dogs.
