It absolutely does not require soldering to replace and I'm getting tired of people saying that it does and scaring people away from a fine fightstick. All you need is one of these these to plug into the joystick of your choice. If the joystick you're using doesn't have a PCB to plug into (most of them do though) then you would use one of these in addition to the 5-pin adapter cable. It's super easy.
Amazon Japan link for those of you who want to preorder the game. I'm super excited about this release, I've really enjoyed every single games in the M2 Shotriggers series and Ketsui is no exception!
Haven't played it myself but aka to blue is meant to be very good - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.tanoshimasu.akatoblue&hl=en_GB

You add the game to your wishlist here:
Radiant Silvergun has heavy focus on levelling up the weapons your ship is equipped with. But no buying new weapons. Also if you try to level up all of them you will die horribly: you have to choose just two or three in each playthrough, there's not nearly enough EXP to upgrade them all.
There's a weird GBA game called Sigma Star Saga which is really more of an RPG with shmup elements (imagine a top-down RPG where instead of turn-based battles you get shmup levels). There's a gigantic number of different weapon combos you can make with the different chips you collect in the game (on the order of 15,000 or something).
There's also a freeware game called Hydorah that's a bit like this: it's a Gradius clone in which you can choose your path at certain junctions, unlock new weapons at specific stages, and have to select and level up said weapons as you progress through the game.
Super Hydorah is right up your alley. It's pretty much a tribute to oldschool side-scrolling shmups, and is super fair with its level, weapon, enemy and boss design while having some nice difficulty later on (really smooth curve).
Free download for the original version (Hydorah)
Hello, dev here. Didn't expect this to get posted in this sub but I found it by accident while scrolling through my Reddit app feed, thank you so much OP! :D
Re: being in development since 2011, the game was actually slated for a 2013-2014 release but both real life and inexperience got in the way, and since I'm the only guy working on the game the whole thing got delayed for 5 years which is my fault. I was only able to seriously update the game once I left home to work in other places (in fact I was on overseas work last year), and here we are today.
For reference, the game is currently in the middle Beta stages and undergoing a lot of changes and additions based on feedback, mostly from the Shmups forums. My aim is to eventually get the game on both Steam and GOG, maybe Switch too but I know jack squat about porting.
By the way, there's an upcoming itch.io summer sale on June 21st all the way to July 1st, so if anyone wishes to help support the game's development and save a couple of bucks, I'll be giving Papilio a 40% discount during that period. :)
Ghost Blade is ok, nothing special. Not one of my favorites, but I’ve honestly not spent too much time with it. It looks nice, that’s for sure. For audio I used an HDMI audio extractor like this:
avedio links 4K@60Hz HDMI Audio Extractor, HDMI to HDMI + Optical Toslink SPDIF + 3.5mm AUX Stereo Audio Out, HDMI Audio Converter Adapter Splitter Support HDCP1.4 Full HD 1080P 3D https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07H94D77V/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_glt_fabc_JFT0F2T1SD3VHJAKTHX6
It is possible to get multi-platform arcade sticks like this one here, which apparently works on PS4, Xbox One and Switch (although it looks like you have to plug in an official controller to make it work on PS4 and Xbox One). You could mod a stick for one platform to work on other consoles, but IIRC it can be complicated.
As for recommendations, you really can't go wrong with Crimzon Clover or Danmaku Unlimited 3, both of which are amazing and available on Switch.
Anything by Cave is worth checking out too if you're willing to set up a Japanese PS4 or Switch account. However, if you live in the US and can't be bothered to do that, you can still get Ketsui Deathtiny, which many people consider the greatest shmup of all time.
Ikaruga is a pretty interesting twist on the genre that is half shmup and half puzzle game if you're looking for something a bit different.
If you're on iOS the DoDonpachi ports have been updated to run on recent versions. No luck for ESPGaluda II and the Mushihime ports.
On Android (and iOS) I found this pretty fun: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.AnnulusGames.HannyaDanmakuDen
You 100% do not need to solder to replace stick. All you need is a cable.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07D27SJ9P/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_fabc_S6PC4ZMYG9M4859A7A3J
It will plug in directly to the stick and then to the left side of the connection you removed from the stock joystick.

Here it is. In the box it had a sheet of paper that says they’ll send you a free holder for the switch. I just got mine in today and since it’s made for a full size switch I had to modify it with a little packaging foam and some gaff tape so it can fit my switch lite securely.
Hi there!
I am a hobbyst game developer and last year I teamed up with an artist friend, and we challenged ourselves to make a full "commercial" game. B . So after 8 months we just released Hyper Cell Defense! It is an arcade shooter with some tower defense elements.
A friend of mine told me it resembles a lot a shmup, alhough you don't actually control a ship, and he told me I should post it here. So here it is!
The game includes 80+ stages with bosses and minibosses, permanent upgrades, endless mode with global leaderboard and more.
The game is free with rewarded (optional) ads and contains in app purchases.
You can find the game on the playstore:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.infection.pom&referrer=utm_source%3Drdd
Have fun, let me know what you think!
Well, there was Ikaruga on AppStore/PlayStore but it was removed for some reasons...
You can try Darius Burst SP (it's a port of the PSP game, just like the PC/PS4 version but it's optmized for smartphones, of course).
9€ in my country, high price but it's a true, complete game, not a smartphone game, so worth the price, imo.
you can find lots of great new indie STGs on itch.io. sales go directly to devs too. Steam has a few Cave games but unfortunately not very many (and it doesn't look like any will be coming soon), although there is quite a diverse selection of STGs on the marketplace that aren't Cave titles.
Yeah, there are quite a lot on steam, I'm having trouble remembering any as I tend to avoid them like the plague, once I see analogue movement or obvious mouse control, I'm straight out of there.
I remember this one looked interesting though, - https://store.steampowered.com/app/443250/Legacy_of_the_Elder_Star/
That's the way you have to do it, I reckon, utilise the freedom of movement and precision of the mouse and make a new way of playing. Something like guwange would work great on mouse and keyboard, using the keyboard for movement and controlling the shikigami with the mouse.
https://store.steampowered.com/app/332480/Phoenix_Force/
Phoenix Force was designed ground-up to be played with a mouse.
Additionally, SoundDodger is also mouse-controlled. https://store.steampowered.com/app/247140/Soundodger/
It's this one ? It plugs into the console or the controller?
I haven't been able to reproduce this bug, but this info should help. Thank you.
Orb Shifter is a Shmup based around the polarity mechanic also seen in games such as Ikaruga and Kyotokei. Players can absorb enemy attacks of the same color as their shield and must alternate between red and blue in order to survive.
Available on the Play Store: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.orbshifter
Those who want to get a feel of the game or see how it runs on their device should try the demo, Orb Shifter Lite: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.orbshifterlite

I'm afraid of got some bad news for you. You've already got one of the lighter sticks on the market, and going lighter comes with some considerable drawbacks. Your only options are things like The Qanba Drone, or The Hori mini stick for Switch. Both are pretty cheap, so you may want to/ end up having to upgrade to better joysticks, buttons, and even PCBs, on top of buying the new stick.
If I were you, honestly, I'd just stick with the 8bitdo instead of blowing money on a new, probably lower quality peripheral.
The JP release is still up for preorder on Amazon JP, for anyone who prefers that option.
It's a shame that LRG couldn't get the R-Gear pre-order bonus included with their editions.
Honestly? Some people might look at it and scoff, but I just bought this stick to use on my Xbox to play my emulation, and it works perfectly fine. And considering it's only $40, it actually feels good to use too. It also has any button I could need, even an L3 and R3 (little buttons in the top right).
I use one of these cheap stands and a pro controller. It’s not technically handheld, but it does the job. When I lay on the couch, I simply put this thing on my belly and bam, shmup away in Tate belly mode! https://www.amazon.com/HORI-Compact-PlayStand-Officially-Licensed-Nintendo/dp/B01A9UATJC

I think Drifting Lands is on Steam and have a Mac version. I've played in my Mac the demo when they launched. I've made a simple shump if you want to try it out it would be a pleasure!! http://gamejolt.com/games/ace-of-space/232298
It's a wired pad but I've been eyeing this as my universal Controller.

I don't care about audio and what not But the D-pad looks nice and if the sticks have some give It'll be just what I need.
>rebind
This will let you rebind literally anything on steam, or otherwise. It allows you to bind keyboard keys to your controller of choice.
I can verify that it works with x-input, d-input, any android controllers.
I recommend you pick up a controller that can swap from at least x & d input. exceed 3rd for example doesn't work with x-input.
Yeah too many videos have excessive intro's but at least you can use things like SponsorBlock to automatically skip them in many cases. It also supports skipping other categories, such as outros and reminders to subscribe.
If you don't wanna get caught hammering CTRL a billion times, here's an auto-key presser which I have not tested lol, but I really think it would work.
Currently $53 in Amazon.jp Just be aware of taxes and shipping, still a good deal:
No mods! Using the Brook Wingman SD.

I was just looking up some options yesterday (wound up getting a hori split pad) but if you want to be able to use the joycons w/ a flip grip, this could maybe be a cheap and easy solution.... not sure how great it works:
https://www.amazon.com/Skull-Co-Button-Nintendo-Switch/dp/B07LGF9WWY
It’s a dpad that you literally stick over the existing buttons lol. Reviews says the pivot isn’t great, sounds like it might not make firm enough contact w/ the joycon body. If that’s really a problem, and not just improper attachment, I was thinking it could maybe be padded out with little pieces of electrical tape.
When it comes to playing docked, your options are basically limitless. Aside from the Pro controller with it's notoriously poor Dpad (which I'm going to attempt a mod on when I get around to picking one up), I'm a pretty big fan of the 8bitdo SN30 Pro+, which has a fantastic dpad for shmups and platformers. There's also hori controllers which have a nice Dpad as well.
An adapter like the Mayflash Magic-NS or the 8bitdo adapter is a fantastic investment if you have some extra PS3/4 or Xbox One controllers lying around. They work great and any input lag they add is quite minimal. I own both; If you're only gonna get one I'd recommend the Mayflash since it's a bit more versatile it seems.
When it comes to joycons I do agree that it's more of a mixed bag. There's the Hori dpad joycon, but that has the very obvious limitation of being wired-only, which basically gets rid of the possibility of using a flip-grip with it. Same with the split-pad pro. There's shell mods for joycons that earn't too bad to install, but I found the dpad to be just sort of "alright" at best on the Extremerate ones I installed.
Personally, I'm a fan of the dpad on these. Imagine the dpad on a 3DS, but a lot bigger. It's stiff and clicky, but very precise and responsive. I've never had any dropped or incorrect inputs on it. No idea how it'd fair for fighting games since I don't play them, but for shmups and platformers, I find it quite nice to use.
this or the hori split pad pro completely fixed this issue for me Best d pad I have yet to try.
Thanks for asking! It can be picked up on Amazon here...

As far as I know I'm not breaching any guidelines by dropping this link. If I am, someone please let me know!!!
Yeah, here is a link to the game on Japanese amazon https://www.amazon.co.jp/MD-MD%E4%BA%92%E6%8F%9B%E6%A9%9F%E7%94%A8-%E3%82%B0%E3%83%AC%E3%82%A4%E3%83%A9%E3%83%B3%E3%82%B5%E3%83%BC/dp/B07QGYLB73?pf_rd_p=9d2bdfad-5ca9-407b-88b5-b8fd9e5a4e4c&pd_rd_wg=xBvvX&pf_rd_r=K8HZ6D87M75MD0TJTPJB&r...

Do you mean with a lot of customisation and upgrades for the ship ?
You can try mine (totally free, no ads), a simple shmup for Android, with some upgrade and "drones" but not as much as Raptor etc.
Space Unknown is a classic-style vertical space shooter with a very simple hook: get a higher score and climb the leaderboards! We designed the game to be 'mobile-first', meaning this game doesn't feel shoehorned into a touchscreen. No microtransactions (single in-app purchase to remove ads) and pure, fast-paced, intense, addictive score attack gameplay.
We are a group of lifelong musicians who decided to become game developers. This game represents 3 years of learning how to develop games; including programming, game design, and artwork. We put a lot of love and care into every aspect of this game, but you might particularly enjoy the soundtrack if you're so inclined (the music came before almost anything else!).
Hope you enjoy the game!
