It's nice of you to think they're beautiful, they're like stupidly simple compared to most other gifs.

I use OBS to capture my desktop, so I just watch the scene I need and record it. Then I edit it with DaVinci Resolve, pretty easy to use and free. I'd like to get fancier with stuff like After Effects and PS, but I don't have time to get super absorbed in gifmaking.

Windscribe is pretty on the up and up, though they're based in a 5 eyes country, so be aware of that when/if you sign up.

They don't require any PII to use their service though, which is a plus IMO.

Gonna hijack the top comment while also responding to you to say that there is a really good graphic novel that picks up on the gillian/kirk/whales plot threads after TVH. It's called: Debt of Honor and is actually pretty good.

In the near future I plan on doing a podcast episode for United Federation of Reddit Podcast that talks about the Star Trek RPG scene on Reddit and will probably hit you up for a guest spot

Alright so my process (and keep in mind not everyone does it this way, usually people host their gifs on gfycat but I'm a stubborn bastard) is I use VSDC to get the clip I want from a particular episode/movie, it has tools for adding text/shake effect/whatever, and then I go here to convert it to a gif. The key for this method is to export from VSDC as an .mpg or an .mp4 as those seem to have the highest overall quality.

I've never had issues accessing Netflix through PrivateVPN. I can occasionally get it to work with the Opera browser's built-in free VPN by switching countries and restarting the browser to get a different VPN server until I get one that hasn't been blocked yet.

Yeah the gestures are only when you can directly touch the screen. Quite a few phones have next and previous track set to the volume buttons when you long press them though, and if they don't, you can download something like Frinky Music Controller to enable it.
