Not going to be as bad as previous years. We're still going to be above zero but if you're just standing around and not moving, it's going to suck.
Your example is just silly. A Subway franchise almost certainly has money set aside beyond just insurance. In fact, I wouldn't be surprised if the franchise contract required an emergency fund that's setup before opening. It's rolled into the prices already, not just snagged away.
Edit: Hey, what do you know:
> Interested in buying a franchise? If so, you’ll need to do some preliminary calculations and determine the amount of money you’ll need. Calculating the amount to put in an emergency fund is also a smart idea that will get you prepared for unexpected circumstances.)
> 3. Don’t neglect your emergency fund
> Buying a franchise entails paying an initial franchise fee, plus start-up costs, an ongoing royalty fee and other fees, such as for marketing.
> And, while a franchise may come with brand recognition and other benefits, it could take months or years to turn a profit. Too often, new franchisees don’t fully account for the financial risks.
> “That’s the single biggest problem: Going into a business that costs $200,000 to get operating and they don’t have any backup capital to get them through lean times,” Batchelder said.
> Libava agreed. “That’s a big mistake…not having enough of a cash reserve to last through that first year, especially including living expenses.”
Lucky there are no disasters here at home in Wisconsin where those Wisconsin resources might be better utilized.
Dam breaks, roads crumble after destructive flooding across Michigan, Wisconsin and Minnesota
Heavy rainstorms wipe out roads, burst dam, kill 2 in Duluth-Superior area
Walker would rather squander our state resources to give his white supremacist supporters some immigration porn to watch from the Republican party's child concentration camps than lend assistance to our people here at home.
Any reference to Minnesota as the "Land of Ten Thousand Lakes" has to also refer to Wiscosnin as the Land of Fifteen Thousand.
I see that Eau Claire is literally in there too!
I got a Rexing V1LG front-and-rear camera for $100 a few years ago, it's pretty easy to figure out and the peace of mind is worth it. I took it to a Best Buy and they hardwired it in about 30 minutes for ~$70. Haven't needed to use it to file any claims yet but there's enough randomness on Wisconsin roads and I'd rather not be waiting for months on a claim because of some he-said-she-said nonsense.
Another purchase to consider, if you do decide to get a dashcam (and you really should, it's a few hours of effort for a huge amount of peace of mind), you should also get an SD card that's marketed as weather-resistant or, like this one, "High Endurance." This should last much longer through the winters than a standard SD card would.
>>creating a structural deficit that could serve as the smokescreen for the next manufactured crisis to further gut essential community services.
>So now it is a manufactured crisis? What happened to all the rabble about austerity measures? This reads damned if you do, damned if you don't.
Well...yes. Prior to Act 10, Walker called a special session which ushered in millions of dollars in new spending and lost revenue. In fact, the Legislative Fiscal Bureau claimed in their projections for the period right around Act 10 that their "analysis indicates that for the three-year period, aggregate, general fund tax collections will be $202.8 million lower than those reflected in the November/December reports. More than half of the lower estimate ($117.2 million) is due to the impact of Special Session Senate Bill 2 (health savings accounts), Assembly Bill 3 (tax deductions/credits for relocated businesses), and Assembly Bill 7 (tax exclusion for new employees)." (Archived Link).
I think it's fair to call slashing the state's income and then crying "we're broke!" a manufactured crisis.
Your broader point, though--that the op ed is garbage--is spot on.
I would hardly call that the "same picture." Sure, it's the same place, but that's not THE EXACT SAME PICTURE as this one https://500px.com/photo/49209104/pewit's-stitch-gigapixel-by-robert-stebler.

I highly recommend spending a bit of cash and purifying your own water for drinking at home. I use this system specifically and it doesn't cost much at all to maintain for the long run.
I wish we could count on our water being clean, but since we can't I would assume take charge and take it into my own hands to make sure I know what I'm drinking
I was a little surprised at his tone because my SO had to go to some committee hearings (Homeland Security) that he participated in last summer, and apparently he was constantly citing his inexperience and "being new here" as an excuse for asking terrible questions.
For the record, here is what he said after the hearing, and here's what he wrote about it.
Here are the states with RTW. Now, look at this list, see any correlation with the majority of them?
Special mention here for Beerntsen's. Classic ice cream shop, sundaes, sodas, malts, and a whole lot of candy. Not the touristy-trap stuff, but the real deal!
I think there's a mobile version. Right now, it's good up until Eau Claire or so (Between miles ~50-70), and after that it's crappy.
Eau Claire has some decent hotels (avoid The Plaza, it's kind of icky), maybe you can pit stop:
http://www.tripadvisor.com/Hotels-g59843-Eau_Claire_Wisconsin-Hotels.html
Unbelievable as it is, this is genuinely from Walker's campaign site.
You can verify this from the Wayback machine, since it's been lost in subsequent site reshuffles.
Well, they already have donated to the Republican Governors Association. But you're being slightly disingenuous. It's not like the Menominee and Seminoles wouldn't have given big to Walker if they had gotten the casino.
Besides, the Potawatomi, Onedia and Ho-Chuck gave almost $1 million to Jim Doyle in 2002 and then proceeded to run ads endorsing him as "pro-environment" (see link, or the copy of the original article as it was printed in JS). A few weeks after taking office, Doyle gave the tribes with casinos their sweet compact amendments with the clawback provisions.
Well, I wouldn't say election day inducements don't happen. Businesses have been known to have specials that require an "I voted sticker" as proof. However, I agree that professional campaigns know better than to try something like that. Just look at the fuss over Romney's comment about sandwiches.
Here are the states with RTW. Now, look at this list, see any correlation with the majority of them?
Are you sure? I could swear that wasn't true since they're private institutions & can deny students based on their own guidelines. I'd be interested in learning more if you have more info.
Are you sure this is still a things since Education Secretary Betsy Devos recinded 72 documents outlining rights for disabled students? Do you have any insight on this move?
Sweet. You can tour it now... it's parked in Norfolk, VA at the museum there. I was out there for work, the USS WI has its guns pointed right at my (former) company's HQ building.

Edit; I should also mention that I'm personally very concerned with racism in our society and how our political parties, especially the GOP, has historically exploited it for political gain. That said, I think they're doing what they can to make this right and understand this isn't the sort of campaign they want to be. Hopefully, anyway, I'm just trying to give them the benefit of the doubt.
And ultrasonic testing is done at much lower levels than what mothers and feti (my new word) are exposed to.
Medical procedures use up to 2K mhz. I've gone up to 35mhz in my uses (certified UT tester).
I'm blown away that there is that much energy used for ultrasounds, but then again, the human body doesn't consist of tightly compacted grains of semi uniform material. You gotta get through all that stuff.
Thanks for the link!
If it helps, I learned BASIC on Tandy computers in middle school. Even made a simple text RPG with a couple classmates, based around being lost in a school. We pretty much borrowed the concept of text-adventure Amnesia.
My mom was a programmer/analyst for 35 years and taught computer science at a community college during that time (they had day care and easier hours for teachers raising young kids). The first machine she worked on in her couple college courses is sitting in the Museum of Science and Industry in Chicago. We had an Apple IIe about the time I hit elementary school. I was making web pages in HTML in college, with a pirated copy of Photoshop 1.
tl;dr - Computer science evolved very, very quickly. Many "Xennieals" like me were the first generation exposed to a home PC and can still remember green screens, "Cannon Fodder" on the 1gen Mac, etc. I'm only mid-40's.
Wait, what?
Details. I'm curious. I looked up Thomas Albers who resigned in 1997 and ran into the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. And this where he apparently resigned on July 31st, 2000. There's no sign of him again until now with politics or even holding another position.
I mean they had an interview with him didn't they? And donated to the Republican Party. So he has to be alive. Unless you mean Richard Burke?
A magnifying glass is the quintesential example of an optical zoom, its glass. Most phones, ipads or digital devices use digital zoom. This is very common knowledge, digital zoom sucks, ask any photographer, designer, hell any instagramer.
Google "optical vs digital zoom", there are tons of articles about it:
This is the first result on google, scroll down to "which is better". If you want to learn more you can but in those 5 minutes of discourse between the prosecution and defense the defense was being 100% right
And as a graphic designer i felt astounded the prosecution was trying to argue about a fact of real life.
By the FAA's new definition, it was probably used as a drone. See, the FAA isn't allowed to regulate non-commercial RC planes as long as they stay below 400 feet. But recent rule interpretations mean that flying using the first-person camera alone, letting you fly out of direct line of sight, means it's no longer a simple RC plane.
See: http://hackaday.com/2014/06/26/congress-destroys-a-hobby-faa-gets-the-blame/
That fascinates me, that someone could get laid off. Not speaking to your brothers talents or lack thereof, but just... the need is so great. Poor companies do choose to outsource, though, which I suspect is what happened.
Yes, pass this link on to your brother: https://www.producthunt.com/e/find-a-remote-job - I'd also mention to check the hacker news monthly job posting thread (posted on the first of every month) -- that's where I got my current job.

I'm sure there are other brands and whatnot and this was a product I assumed wouldn't work that I put into a Christmas gift bundle, so you may want to look around and see what's up because I did basically zero research on this. It ended up working well but who knows what's out there.
I highly recommend 'The Shock Doctrine' to anyone who hasn't read it. Naomi's hypothesis fits eerily well to a lot of major political moves over the last 30-40 years. A lot of the events she analyzes are downright sickening, but I feel like people need to know this stuff. It's not all Glenn Beck conspiracy theory shit either, there are a good 40-50 pages of references at the back.
And before you ask, the app is WeatherBomb. There's no better weather app in my opinion. Highly configurable and extremely dense with data. It can even display odd maps such as soil temperature and humidity, wave height (for coastal regions) and UV index, among many, many others.
You can also take the bus to the Point Cinema: link.
LA County is not CA. There's so much more to it than that and by looking at the 2^nd most expensive county in one of the most expensive states, you're focusing on the upper outliers.
Also, $570k median price with a 10% down payment is just over $500k, which is the new mortgage limit (even if you need an income around $98k which is questionably middle class), so the mid won't see the change.
However, none of this matters as the MID is still regressive and one of like 6 programs that all economists agree should be killed as the 1% make more off of it than the average American who make more off of it than the lower quintiles.
This completely misses Brenner Brewing Company that got its initial funding with a Kickstarter.

This is a really nice day hike in mountain wi. Some really nice views and a small water fall. There is a place to park across from bear paw road. Trail is marked by flags. I’d skip the second part (south of hwy w) because it is not marked well right now. Just follow W back to parking spot.

No evidence of Russian hacking - thats absurd!
"The United States Intelligence Community has concluded with high confidence that the Russian government interfered in the 2016 U.S. presidential election.[1] A January 2017 assessment by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence (ODNI) stated that Russian leadership preferred presidential candidate Donald Trump over Hillary Clinton, and that Russian President Vladimir Putin personally ordered an "influence campaign" to harm Clinton's electoral chances and "undermine public faith in the US democratic process"

hello?? Look at the 10 year gas price chart. Prices haven't been this low since 2008. Yes, there are seasonal swings, which you can see on the chart. This is a global market force driving prices this low. Yes, prices will again eventually rise, which is why I would support a "price sunset," where if prices go above say $2.25 / gallon, the tax reverts back to current levels.
Because they are paid to. Your questions are better suited for those that own them.
Starving the Beast did a decent job of laying out the most recent attacks and trying them to the right wing's longer-term goals. Forgot one, it'll be harder to find in libraries. "Slowly Downward" by Stanley Donwood. He's very much more my own style, but British.
The Fall will take a little patience, the style is hard to wrap your head around at first. Bukowski...well, you'll want to take a shower and consider never drinking again, but he's so good at illustrating an unchecked male ego.
I wrote short stories in college, but the school lit mag was run by a prof who was firmly planted up Robert Frost's ass, fellated Emerson and HDT, you know the kind. I was considered "too dark" or "heavy handed on sensitive topics", and the rejection after rejection was discouraging. The life happened and well, you get out of practice.
One tip that applies across the board (stealing this from Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance) is to look at the roads. If the roads are practically all straight, the area is likely flat, maybe boring. If the roads are curvy, there's likely hills, which is nice.
That said, I really enjoyed Perrot State Park when I was there, Devil's Lake is also quite nice. I'm not sure if you'd want to spend time on water at this time of year, but there are canoeing companies along the Wisconsin River, you could easily spend 3-5 days on the river, it's quite scenic.
You can even get heated pads for them!
If you are in an apartment it isn't likely you will need to shovel, unless you have a private entrance. Most pet friendly buildings have enough people with dogs that the snow will be tramped down pretty quickly so you will just walk on top of it.
> Also, animal materials keep you the warmest.
As explained in the documentary The Empire Strikes Back.
On a more serious note, I bought a $60 heated vest off amazon for this winter and its pretty great at keeping you warm. 10000ma battery pack kept it going for about 5-6 hours. Keeping your core warm goes a long way.
Got a set of heated winter gloves too, great for snowblowing/shoveling

There’s a book call Polkabilly written by the professor that runs the folklore department at the UW. It’s probably a little later than what your asking about in particular, but it’s a legit source for information on regional music of the upper Midwest. Wisconsin in particular. He’s written several books on the subject. Good guy too, I took a class with him once when I was there.

While my local Wal-Mart started about $1.30 over minimum wage last I checked, Googling seems to tell me that most Wal-Mart associates earn over $9 an hour.
I'm mostly going off various Cato-backed propaganda studies here, but I get the impression that minimum wage is for
a) teenagers
b) people who will shortly get a promotion or a better job
c) people who quit a lot
d) a very small percentage of adults who earn minimum wage full-time, year-round, like it's their career, to feed their families with.
> We aren't in a weak economy anymore
The US hasn't had a 3% GDP growth since 2005. If not weak, then anemic.
> Borrowing should be used to expand, not to maintain.
I don't agree with this one bit. Borrowing should be used to advanced projects that you don't have the cash on hand to take care of. Growth, expand, maintain, anything as long as you spend $1 (including the expected interest) and get more than $1 back.
So I guess we're just coming at it from different personal expectations of what/how the government budgets should be used on/for.
Here's a book that pretty much lays it out. You can find interviews and articles about the author, Katherine Crame, where she goes into it. https://www.amazon.com/Politics-Resentment-Consciousness-Wisconsin-American/dp/022634911X
It's also impossible to overstate the influence of right-wing talk radio and media in Wisconsin. People in red areas eat that shit up, and it's made them increasingly angry, resentful, and radicalized over the years (not to mention misinformed).
They take the governmental data and make it fuzzier - usually increasing the chance of precipitation because no one ever gets mad when you say it is going to rain and it doesn't but they hate it if you say it is going to be sunny and then it rains. It's pretty funny to go to the NWS site, then weather.com and see how they are exactly the same except weather.com will be 20% more likely to rain/snow.
The majority of investors, which I'm assuming you mean people who own stocks, are not the middle class. The top 20% of Americans own something like 90% of the stocks
I understand the R orthodoxy - tax cuts for the rich create jobs, pay for themselves, etc. But it has never proven to be true. Tax cuts only result in less tax revenue.
The backstory of how she got to Wisconsin is even wilder, she was basically recruited into the cult of Frank Lloyd Wright's fellowship and pressured into a marriage with one of his top apprentices. Someone in the thread shared a high-end water filtration system they installed in their home to make sure all the water is cleaner than straight out the tap. Little spendy ($300) but cheaper than long term health risks or medical bills. Worth maybe looking into! Definitely grabbed my attention.

So...how accurate are the temp sensors on a SpyPoint camera to throw a 10 degree difference?
Why this video in the hands of the local PD can't get the driver's details from FedEx via the location and timestamp in a month is beyond me.
The "promotional videos" this person made make me question their ability to have critical thinking skills, so I'd love to see a police report on this and the person getting nailed to the wall.

100% this. And in addition, put this little handle on right where the bend is for maximum leverage and back saving:
To answer the question, I shovel at a diagonal to reduce snagging on the cracks. I have two shovels, the push shovel for light snow and the bent handle shovel with this little attachment for heavy snow.
I use this…no scraping or products ever. Turns stickers into window clings. It’s great.

Outdoor Research makes excellent gloves that balance warmth and dexterity.
What you want to look for is grams of insulation. The typical winter glove has around 40 grams of thinsulate (a common brand of insulation). This is a fairly warm glove, but if you increase the insulation to 60 grams it is much warmer. If you add to that I breathable waterproof/windproof shell (like Goretex) it is much warmer, and if you can have a glve that has all of these attributes, plus an excellent design that makes for good dexterity, then you get something like the Outdoor Research

Cell coverage is almost nonexistent if you are on trail or in the National Forest itself, you would have to go to a town like Haywood for any cell signal. Morgon Falls is an awesome short day hike, Black Lake is another easy day hike. For longer hikes or backcountry camping, the unit in Medford on the ICT is very remote and a has some classic Northwoods Lakes but would only recommend if you are willing to camp or if you can leave early.
There are tons of hidden gems in the National Forest in Wisconsin if you can get farther north I would also recommend Amnicon Falls State Park and Brule River State Forest as well. Check out alltrails for more trails in the National Forest: https://www.alltrails.com/parks/us/wisconsin/chequamegon-national-forest
If you want something midway from North and Southern Wis Black River Falls State Forest is very nice, isolated, and great for camping. But if you can make the couple hours trip farther North i would recommend it more. The Medford Unit is the closest and has a campground as well called Chippewa Recreation Area but I believe it is closed at this time. Anyways hope i can be of any help. :)
Get yourself a shovel like this one. The handle near the bottom is a lifesaver and I couldn't imagine shoveling without it.

Clearly not, as you haven't answered the questions I asked about them.
> Assumption unsupported by evidence.
That mods don't have to outright ban everyone who makes veiled threats? Can you cite what it is that compels them to ban every user who utters a euphemistic threat?
> It's certainly one you worded, though not accurately.
Guess you'll have to take it up with The American Heritage Dictionary that their definition is wrong.
> Not that it matters much since I never so much as implied pursuing or punishing anyone, and holding Rittenhouse accountable doesn't require vigilantism.
Alright, what do you mean by "hold accountable" if it's not a punishment doled out based on one's perception of the legality or morality of his acts? In what way might someone "hold him accountable" if not through punishing him?
> A heavy indicator like associating and accepting aid from white nationalists? Which Rittenhouse does.
That's nowhere near an indicator, even if it were true (which you haven't provided proof of despite numerous requests to do so). This is called "guilt by association" and does not logically follow.
> It could also be an indicator of a suicidal bipolar person off their meds. Which Rosenbaum was.
I can't say I've seen too many suicidal or bipolar people people start tossing around hard-r's. What kind of suicidal and/or bipolar people are you hanging out with?

According to the Center for Responsive Politics, as of August 25, 2010, Johnson had invested $4.3 million of his own money into his campaign, which represented 71 percent of his campaign funds, while 27 percent of his campaign funds ($1.6 million) came from individual contributions.[13]

Many of us have been watching for many years. Prosecutorial misconduct, lack of funding for public defenders and court-appointed defense lawyers - these are huge issues in Wisconsin and across the country. So now I make money by spending money (cliché awareness) on things that I actually need (gas, food, clothing, etc.), which is nice.
I will say that Costco has not, nor would it ever, totally fulfill my food shopping needs; while they have many items, near all of which are in bulk, there exists plenty of things for which I travel to the Woodman's nearby instead.
Also, their food court has a hot dog + fountain drink deal at $1.50, which is nice.
some disappointing reviews here: http://www.tripadvisor.com/Attraction_Review-g60403-d622390-Reviews-or30-Storybook_Gardens_and_Timbavati_Wildlife_Park-Wisconsin_Dells_Wisconsin.html#REVIEWS also, the timbavati portion will remain open "Timbavati, however, will continue. Schoebel is building a new park for his lions, tigers, giraffe, zebras and other animals. It is scheduled to open in June up the street at Riverview Park & Waterworld. The aging waterpark, once one of the largest in the Dells, is being removed to make way for animal exhibits."
For example, if you're looking for something small just to start with, here's a house with an estimated mortgage payment of $300 a month: http://www.zillow.com/homedetails/736-N-Barstow-St-Eau-Claire-WI-54703/68501405_zpid/
Looks to be about a 15 minute walk from the heart of Downtown, and Eau Claire really has a beautiful downtown that's just starting to get brought back to life. The Chippewa River is great to float down, we just spent about 2 hours floating down it this past Sunday.
There's a budget theater downtown, which plays movies between the time they are in the real theater and when they come to DVD, $3 normal, $2 on Tuesday's. And there is a Drive-In theater just north of town.
I was there and I watched them physically drag out and arrest a man for holding a crucifix while his daughter cried. This article fails to mention the republican legislator that called Rep. Larsen a liar while he spoke.
Hard core is not what I consider myself but when I come to this kind of scene after midnight on a supposed "debate" of the use of this legislation I am not happy either.
The idea that we are going to have the Corps of engineers pay to do the restoration at the federal dime at the same time that we reject federal rail funds in grandstanding gestures shows the absolute sell out that the ALEC GOP party in this state has become. They need to have to debate this stuff and they refuse to.
They wonder why there is protest and a lack of respect when this is how Fitzgerald called for adjournment to after midnight http://tinypic.com/player.php?v=3501cib&s=5
4:01 PM now Fitzgerald has cancelled the last public hearing.
Fitzgerald isn't going to get away with scheduling at midnight just so we don't see his crooked games.
>There's nothing bad about running for office specifically because you think the government is doing things wrong.
That's a very whitewashed view of what I said. Literally, it's "government doing everything wrong", translating to "the private sector and industrialists do everything right".
Sure, that sounds exactly like a couple of conservatives who just have a problem with government and want to change policy. /s
>Again, I'm not defending current republicans or what they stand for, but it would be silly to demonize running for office to change policy, because that's the basis of our governmental system.
They are not running to change policy. They're running to act as proxy candidates for corporate, religious fundamentalist, and wealthy interests.
It's called Freedom. You can use it on your desktop and phone to block websites and apps. You can build your own blocklist or choose the premade ones ("shopping," "news" etc.). I have it block EVERYTHING on my desktop at bedtime until wake up. Can't use iTunes, VLC, nothing. I can read ebooks on my phone and receive texts/calls. You can even set it so that it's nearly impossible to circumvent via task manager or VPN settings.
If you don't want to pay, there's a browser extension called StayFocusd that does some of the same things, except you can't schedule it. You can say "during the week, allow 2 hours of reddit + twitter per day" and then when your time is up it blocks them. Or "do not allow any distracting sites for the next 2 hours." Or "only allow sites that end in .edu." It doesn't have a phone app though.
