There is always l'hiver mod which not only increases the difficulty but also makes the world a lot more beautiful but ,personally, I'm not a fan of it. If you only want an increased difficulty, you can do it yourself with NOTR Customizer.
I don't know anything about the whole Steam situation, but i assume all patches, etc. are already applied.
What i do know: You are currently playing one of my all time favourites! I must have played Gothic I & II a ridiculous amount of times. I love those games. Especially I & II. So you better enjoy it as much as you can!
Regarding controls: First few times i played as intended with keyboard controls. Later on i mapped the keys to a PS2-Controller via Xpadder or Antimicro to make it a little more comfy. Keyboard controls are fine though.
Is this going to be your first playthrough? If it is, good luck and have fun, it is truly one of the best games of my childhood.
I wouldn't recommend you getting the game off steam, it doesn't have the latest patch, just get the game from the Internet, and the community patches and mods from http://www.worldofgothic.com/gothic3/
You should download the latest community patch, the quest pack and another patch I cannot remember it's name right now.
Also, I haven't played forsaken gods, but I have read about it a lot and watched gameplays, and..I'm pretty sure you shouldn't get it. If you'll finish Gothic like 4 times and and get sick of it, only then you should get it. Getting the game/mods/patches shouldn't be so hard, but feel free to PM me if you're having problems.
Edit: Latest community patch
There are more audio files assoctiated with the string "You're in for it now": SVM_1_DieEnemy.WAV SVM_4_YouDareHitMe.WAV SVM_5_DieEnemy.WAV SVM_7_YouDareHitMe.WAV SVM_10_YouDareHitMe.WAV SVM_11_DieEnemy.WAV SVM_14_DieEnemy.WAV SVM_16_DieEnemy.WAV SVM_17_DieEnemy.WAV
Beside GothicVDFS, you can also use ANX Game Audio Player to scan sounds.vdf and speech.vdf (not sure in which vdf are the ambient sounds), and if I am not wrong, to export the desired file.
https://github.com/AntiMicro/antimicro a software that emulate keyboard\mouse on controllers
check this configuration.
u/VaanaCZ once posted it on our discord that you can find in the stickied. I am just reposting the knowledge.
Gothic 3: Metamorphous font
Done
Theoretically you can of course use different font, if you know the name.
Alright I've just looked in the steam forums, and it's actually possible to use community patches over the steam version, and now you made me wanna buy the game. *sigh*Time to leave my job and start exploring Myrtana again. -About the quest pack, I personally do not like it because there is no voice acting, and when you acquire the new quests it is just silent and weird. -I think that I gave you by mistake the 1.74 community patch. -Your RAM and processor are fine, not sure about the GPU, go to CanYouRunIt and check. Good luck and have fun.
You can spawn usable objects but I've never heard of spawning buildings. As far as I know this would be the complete list of insertable cheats. http://www.worldofgothic.com/gothic3/?go=g3insert
You can compare to this list if you like but I don't think you'd see any difference. ftp://ftp.sequr.info/PUB/Games/Gothic%203/G3iMap/LANG/English/cheatlist.html
Yes, that is correct. One of the paladins in the castle will tell you where three of the four dragons are (I forget his name, but Garond will tell you to talk to him). The dragons are in the new camp, at the old tower Lester was at in Gothic I for the focus stones quest, near Cavalorn's hut (two dragonhunters will help you), and the other is just to the south. You can see them all on a map here: http://www.worldofgothic.com/images/g2karten/oldworld.jpg
During my first play of G3 few years ago (before the mods) I was quite packed and I was liberating cities one after one. In the end, I only got 11 chalices and I couldn't get the last one and now that You said that, I don't remember talking to Bengard. However, if You find him and you don't have any dialogue option, just beat him and take the chalice. Or, should you fail to do so, try cheatmode http://www.worldofgothic.com/gothic3/?go=g3cheats and "insert It_FiremageCup"
Oh, it's a must-play for the series! The story is fantastic and the options are just amazing. NotR is especially a good detour to gain experience before heading to the Valley of Mines.
I just got through my second-ever playthrough and would recommend following this post on GOG to enhance the game with a few patches and graphics mods: Gothic 2 Patches and Mods on GOG Forums
I would avoid the IronKeep community patch, as people have reported that it unfortunately makes the game less stable. I played without it and didn't run into a single crash or game-breaking bug.
Night of the Raven does make the game a bit more difficult, sometimes frustratingly so (though many do enjoy how brutal it can get). Since I was aiming for a quicker, easier playthrough, I used the NotR Customizer to tweak a few things this time around.
Enjoy playing! You'll have a blast. :)
You can find a few patches/community mods here that should improve the graphics! I haven't actually tried any for Gothic 2 but I have used one from that site for the first one. Enjoy your replay!
Do you have a link? I don't use Amazon so I don't know if what I found was relevant, but it listed compatible Windows versions and it ends with XP, so I think this is the old version of Gothic. It is not compatible with Windows 10. I saw some posts about people trying to get the old Gothic to work, but it was a lot of trouble for buggy result. Just buy the updated version.

I just looked in my amazon history. I bought exactly this in 2014:
https://www.amazon.de/EuroVideo-Gothic-Complete-Collection/dp/B0074258BI/
But maybe this version isn't being made anymore. At least I couldn't find any store that has new copies in stock
Thanks, I used GoMan which you can download from http://www.worldofgothic.com/dl/?go=dlfile&fileid=84
It’s a tool that lets you edit game files. Unfortunately it’s not so simple. You have to use the tool to go into the data files and find the default player skin and overwrite the file. I extracted a few files and used photoshop to edit my own texture, then replaced the player texture. I would love to find out a way to just make it into a mod and create more textures but I have no idea how to do this lol. I can upload the texture if you want though.
it's really great to know that you used G2A.
If you're happy with shopping and you have a free moment, we'd be super glad if you dropped by and gave us a rating on <strong>Trustpilot</strong> - (just like Mario we are collecting stars). If not, please share with me any feedback you might have to improve the quality of your shopping.
All the best!
This is what you're looking for. Keep in mind, however, that compared to the latest full version of L'Hiver, the graphics in this one are somewhat unfinished
I found a post on WoG from 2007 where unfortunately all the links were down. Therefore I simply created a profile myself. So all of you who want to play lazy Gothic 1 from the couch without mouse and keyboard, this is for you.

How it works:
A freemium program called JoyToKey allows us to simulate keyboard and mouse input with a joystick.
What you need:
- Gothic 1 installed on Windows
- Xbox360 Controller with USB Adapter
- JoyToKey
- A Profile with key bindings for JoyToKey
Tutorial:
Did you pass the dead paladins looking for him? You should pass a couple of dead bodies before finding Diego at his campfire, but if you don't see them, you may be in the wrong place.
This may be the map you're using, but should be correct: http://www.worldofgothic.com/images/g2karten/diggers_and_ore.jpg
He's in a small box canyon just SW of the castle.
I think Dark Secrets and Dark Mysteries is the same thing.

You can find it here: http://www.worldofgothic.com/dl/?go=dlfile&fileid=154
It's older version but noone knows what the new one does besides horrible difficulty settings.
Here's a complete overview of the claw on the world of gothic website, has everything you will ever need to know about it!
Just get the gothic 2 notr customizer, you can change a lot of things if you think gothic 2 notr is unfair http://www.worldofgothic.com/dl/?go=dlfile&fileid=100
The weed gang limits you out of the two highest tiers of magic, unfortunately (circles 5 and 6). You simply won't be given the opportunity to learn them.
If you don't know, the ability to cast magic in Gothic 1 (and 2, for that matter) is depended on having learned magic circles. There are 6 of them, and you learn the circles in order. Each spell requires you to have attained a certain circle of magic.
If you want to know the spells and the required circles (to see what you miss out with the weed gang), you can find them here.
There is a notr patch, which was done before Gothic 2 Gold released with English dub. It basically is english subs only, minus console commands and ch and sh. Worked over steam version for me - install german version, install systempacks required to run NotR, then install it from http://www.worldofgothic.com/dl/?go=dlfile&fileid=24
So do it! German voice over rocks, compared to English version. I installed german steam version, patches required to run game and then applied community translation patch, which was done before English release, from here
in gothic 2 I think you can move the camera to any x/y maybe z point you want, so maybe he just moved the camera like that http://www.worldofgothic.com/gothic2/?go=g2cheats
Maybe it works for gothic 1 but usually gothic 2 cheats are a bit better documented, so I'd look on both lists if I were you.
P.S. I think he also removed most of the character texture from whta it looks like. He left his hands though.
There is a "mod tool" that allows you to make custom difficultly for G2:NotR. I am not sure if it works with other mods, including L'Hiver Here's the link: http://www.worldofgothic.com/dl/?go=dlfile&fileid=100
Apparently, for Polish version of survivorless version of the mod there's a submod that restores G2 Gold difficulty
Looks like what you want is ItWr_PaladinLetter_MIS, which is supposedly the letter to Lord Hagen. If that's not it, check here (http://www.worldofgothic.com/gothic2/?go=insert_g2missionitems_kap2) and try some other codes. The link you posted is for the add-on codes, so it seems like you were just looking in the wrong place. Hope that helps.
You can get a free armor in the New Mine without even joining a camp. It's not very good, but it's better than nothing. Here's a list of all teachers in G1.
Can't really recommend anything in terms of guides, but I'm sure someone else will be able to. About sneak though, I've never put any points into it, pickpocketing, or lockpicking in G1 myself, so I can't really talk about how useful those are
A bit late to the party in here, but have you tried the Gothic 2 Customizer?
It basically let's you alter some numerical values, like how many hitpoints or learning points you get every level up, the damage enemies and you deal, the gold value of items, stat requirements for weapons, etc.
but from the main website (NOTR)
trolls have a negative arrow protection.
http://www.worldofgothic.com/gothic2/?go=addonmonster
I did however tried to kill one with the best bow, they get no damage. so I suppose using a master sword will be a must vs very few monsters
This mod adds craftable weapons, I'm not sure about any others. http://www.worldofgothic.com/dl/?go=dlfile&fileid=131
There are also some mod kits on the site, but I haven't tried any of them so I don't know how powerful they are
I was just browsing through the top posts here and I saw your comment, what a coincidence! Anyway, you can try this mod to make Gothic 1 look better.
Oh man I'm excited for you! Haha I loved Gothic 2, especially with Night of the Raven. It's probably one of my favorite games of all time (at least top 3). Here's a link with some mods/community patches that should improve graphics and gameplay :)
While were talking about older games with a different camera perspective: Sacred Gold is also worth a shot. (dont get me started on the sequels, theyre all shit)
Once upon a time i used a program called Winebottler (WINE) on a mac which worked for a number of windows applications. What it does is it creates a WINE prefix and everything required (dependencies, windoze crap, etc) and throws them into a standalone mac .app file. You can even move the file from one computer to another without having to even install WINE on the second machine, or Winebottler for that matter. Though I havnt tried it in a few years so it may or may not work out of the box like it did back then.
WINE however on Linux works great!
I was lurking and saw your old post. You may have resolved your issue but amazon has a downloadable version of vanilla gothic 2 and that’s what I use.
