Demon's Plague. It's a zombie apocalypse book, but unlike every other one it takes place in a semi-realistic version of Medieval England instead of a modern / military setting. When I say "Semi-Realistic," it means a low-fantasy world where the cities and characters are fictional, but the weapons, places, and technology are authentic or at least plausible within the setting. No magic, dragons, or other fantasy creatures. The zombies are heavily inspired by Max Brooks, no runners. The author also did his best to avoid common tropes for the genre. Characters are intelligent and learn quickly how to handle the infected. And best of all, the story focuses on exactly zero children or babies.
It's available on Amazon now in digital and paperback.

Let's look at this reasonably.
Most people will not have access to an aircraft or the capability of flying one, so I'm crossing that right off. Leaving: automobiles.
The route sketched is approximately following the path of US Route 50, a "highway" that stretches approximately 3,000 miles from Ocean City, MD to West Sacromento, CA.
Although a car would get better gas mileage, a truck could carry more equipment, and a SUV would be better able to cross terrain...
I think I would go with a minivan - perhaps this Chevy Venture. It has a cargo capacity of 2393 liters with the third row of seats removed.
1) Assuming 20mpg (between the EPA estimated 16/22), a 3000 mile journey would take 150 gallons of gas - let's assume worst case and take 200 gallons, because you can always barter with the remaining fuel. That's about 1200 pounds of fuel, which is ~ 800 liters of cargo capacity (ie significantly less than the carrying capacity.
2) Considering the minivan is designed to hold seven people (assuming 200lb apiece), it should be capable of carrying four (800lb) plus 600lb of cargo.
3) Once you get to the destination, after most of the fuel is used, you'll have a lot more room in the back - just secure the empty containers to the roof (just in case). Instant somewhat secured living/sleeping arrangements! Not the most comfortable, but it'd work - and be somewhat more resistant than a tent to incursions.
4) Chicks totally dig minivans.
How about this one? ^.^

Full disclosure, I mod the forums and I know the developers. It's looking pretty fantastic right now, we've got an alpha released already that's playable by anyone who's bought the game (and a very old demo that's playable by anyone), plus it's only about $8.
Absolutely horrible idea.

They don't make it.
Overall skyscrapers are one of the worst places to hole up in a zombie scenario. They have little to offer in resources, they are in densely populated areas and with no power they are dark tombs.
Better to head into country where you can live off the land and see what's coming. Go where there is low population density for maximum chance of survival.

If you haven't yet read Stephen King's 'On Writing', now's the time. I've never been mad about King's style and I'm not keen on books about writing, but this one's an exception: it's forceful and concise and brutally honest. Here's an excerpt:
"Mostly when I think of pacing, I go back to Elmore Leonard, who explained it so perfectly by saying he just left out the boring parts. This suggest cutting to speed the pace, and that’s what most of us end up having to do (kill your darlings, kill your darlings, even when it breaks your egocentric little scribbler’s heart, kill your darlings)...I got a scribbled comment that changed the way I rewrote my fiction once and forever. Jotted below the machine-generated signature of the editor was this mot: “Not bad, but PUFFY. You need to revise for length. Formula: 2nd Draft = 1st Draft – 10%. Good luck.”
For what it's worth, I think you've got to hack away at anything in this piece that reduces immediacy. Throw us into the action and don't drag us out again. I suspect your worst enemy here may be what you consider your greatest strength: 'fine' writing. That's the stuff we love to write but very few love to read. That's either because all readers are bastards or because what we've written is too self-conscious. In short, I think the good things in this are lost whenever style rather than story seems to drive the writing.
Hope it works out for you.
There's the ebay auction they 'shopped...
So Max Brooks came to speak at my university. His recommendation was to get a small handheld pump/ purifier. As boiling water can be time consuming/ fire can attract attention this may be your best bet. This system would be ideal when traveling (light, portable) and all you would need to find would be a source of water. Another option I saw in this show "The Colony." The participants (who have a secure fortress set in an apocalyptic setting) are able to filter their water through this <a href="http://www.ehow.com/how_4880648_homemade-water-filters.html">home made filtration unit</a> . This would be more ideal for long-term stability in a safe and secured area. This option can also be more complex as it involves finding a way in which to transport water into your camp to filter (ex. manually carry, well, rain collection, pipe system). Hope that helps!
EDIT: tried to post link correctly, failed... help?
Have you read Tooth and Nail? Tells the story of an infantry battalion returning from the mid east that gets tasked with securing a portion of NYC during a "flu like" epidemic that turns into a zombie outbreak.
My favorite zombie book, even if it is pretty rough around the edges.
Zombies, run! it's free!
Zombies, run! 5k training it costs $1.99
Mine isn't a framed pack, it's just an over sized day pack with straps on the bottom I picked up at an REI yard sale for $3 sorta like this one.
I was going to mention that attached building too. Looks like some demolition is needed.
I've always liked <strong>this building</strong> in Minnesota. Not as high off the ground, but the only connection to the ground is one elevator and a couple of staircases.
The issue of piled bodies is always going to be a hazard, no matter the building. But one solution to that is the "slurry pit" <strong>shown here</strong>. You just need to have some time every so often to get to the ground and wrangle the corpses into the pool.
(And as a survival option, I like the idea of the river barges this person came up with.)
For clarity, I am one of the developers.
Patient Zero: Day One is a top down infect-em-up where you must infect as many victims as possible to stop your timer running out, but you must then compete with the infected for more victims.
Edit: Thanks for the support so far. If you enjoy it I'd appreciate your support by following and sharing on FB and Twitter. (I'm not allowed to post links but its easy to find).

No, but here's some stuff
Food http://www.instructables.com/id/Brain-Cake/ Normal food wil do beside that, blood lemonade would be cool though http://www.mybakingaddiction.com/homemade-strawberry-lemonade/ Scale it up and add red food coloring
Games
If you have nerf weapons you can split everyone up into survivors and zombies(inside)
Same with water weapons(outside)
Blind Man's Bluff- Split a few people off as zombies, turn off lights, hilarity ensues.
Videogames - Most video games have a zombie mode these days, cod being the most common household games. You could have one group do that while another plays a different game
<ovies - Get some of the funnier zombie movies so they are haing fun , no shitting their pants
Zombieland Shaun of the Dead Return of the Living Dead etc
Out of curiosity, and since your sidebar doesn't specify, how is this subreddit going to differ from the conversations that already happen in /r/zombies?
I guess what I'm asking more specifically is, is it going to be more for zombie-enthusiasts who like to discuss the realities of the zombie apocalypse (while, of course, understanding that zombies are fiction and the discussions are hypothetical, at least for now anyway), or is it still going to have a lot of the "lol, this looks cool so it's a zombie weapon" nonsense we see a lot of in /r/zombies?
here is a quick video i found of it. it's not the actual episode, it's just random clips. so maybe it will stay active for longer.
what they fail to show you in this clip is that the Marauder can't handle going through a drive-through.
edit: that video is created by the manufacturer of the Marauder. so it should stay active indefinitely.
Hey! This is an excerpt from a chapter in my zombie outbreak novella, The Collapse: Book 0.
If anyone's interested in checking it out, it's up for preorder on Amazon as eBook and KU: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09BDFBN89
That's a bleak outlook on humankind. Perhaps it time for a new perspective on that, by realizing that most people are naturally good.
This book explains it better than I can: https://www.amazon.com/Humankind-Hopeful-History-Rutger-Bregman/dp/0316418536

"The World Itself Departed" by J.B. Beatty is unique in its causation for zombie apocalypse, and some of the structures of society that still persist (like Amazon drone packages & Twitter frozen in time).
I recommend the 2 book series Xombies:
https://www.amazon.com/Xombies-Walter-Greatshell/dp/0425197441
Normally I am not a big fan of unkillable anything, but the author does a good job of building tension and explaining why they are nearly impossible to kill. The only time I have ever found zombies scary.
User selling that generator has one other transaction in the past, but the item is no longer online (would've been great if that was another survival item).
Feedback was general: "¤º°°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º°
°º¤ø,¸¸,ø¤º TOP eBayer"
Edit: He is also currently selling a (water pump)[http://www.ebay.com/itm/Water-Pump-2-Honda-Engine/320827932219?ssPageName=WDVW&rd=1&ih=011&category=26261&cmd=ViewItem#ht_500wt_1156], could also be useful if the zombies come.
I agree but unfortunately the answers where multiple choice and we did not have the option to pick another weapon, I personally would go for one of these http://www.ehow.com/how_2294133_make-lobo.html but you still want a gun for those times when you just can make a quiet exit
True, but animals in the water raises another point. If said animals try to eat the zombies, you have an entirely different threat to worry about. A shark out of water, without the need to process water through its gills would be terrifying.
Edit: I say we test this theory on humans first
Looks really nice man! Only advice I would suggest would be to add some 'spider' veins around the "infected" area. I would compare it to Bob Ross adding Happy Trees to a painting. At first you think WTF it's fine the way it is and then afterwards...even better! Also, I agree with Sped21 in lightening the skin. A good concealer/foundation blends a lot better than using a face paint or SFX kit.
There's a good how to for veins that I've used, here... http://www.ehow.com/how_7773741_paint-veins-halloween.html
Excellent idea! The time gap gives you a lot of freedom to put the force of human innovation in difficult times to great use. Otherwise questionable gaps in technology can become much more believable when the people in your story have to McGuyver it or die! For example, in the short story 'The Highest Treason', this trope is done exceptionally well. Writing about humans doing everything they can to survive taps into a well of awesome. the short story can be found freely at Project Gutenberg https://www.gutenberg.org/files/24302/24302-h/24302-h.htm
Hmm. Seems my earlier response is lost now. Anyway, the point I was making:
Most of the measurements that you want, are defensible on the grounds that they make good sense even if some insensible person should not be worried about the zombie apocalypse. Emergency kits, self defense training, crowd control etc.
Now, given that we already require people to have emergency kits, adding a zombie-fighting shovel is only a small step. After all, it has many practical uses in gardening, snow shoveling etc, and it is a weapon that is more effective vs. zombies than vs. humans.
Now, given that we have armed people with lobos, and are giving self defense lessons, it wouldn't make sense not to teach people how to fight with the lobos, right? Function creep is a very powerful weapon for policy makers...
Check out his newest video: The Ultimax Machine Gun
Specifically, it's a machine gun with the same low-recoil idea as the AA-12. There's a point about half way through where he shows how easy it is to get head-shots with it.
Just make sure you pick up some of these during your costco raid and you can use the TVP for fun experiments like Globaltouch mentioned.
http://freecomicsdownload.com/ you'll have to find a program to red them with. I use CDisplay: http://download.cnet.com/CDisplay-Image-Display/3000-18488_4-10162238.html
that's also where I've gotten all the Scott Pilgrim books(which I also plan on buying), The Watchmen (which I've bought but since lost) and a whole bunch of other great graphic novels
This is actually something we are trying to adress to some degree with our new game Zpocalypse: Survival. Being a big zombie fan and game player I wanted to make something that took inspiration from a lot of other great games (not just zombie games) and pieced them all together into something I hope will be what zombie gamers have been looking for.
Very welcome! If you do, I really hope you enjoy! It has been well-received so far.

I found it on Amazon, here’s a link, Hope this is the correct way...
1) Sun Tzu. If anyone can get me through this thing alive, it's him. He brings a copy of his book 'The Art of War', his sword and his armor. 2) 'Top Shot' season 1 winner Iain Harrison, for obvious reasons. He brings a Beretta 92F, an AR-15 and a Mosin-Nagant. 3) Rasputin, if for no other reason than the bastard is so hard to kill, there may have been a zombie cure in his blood somewhere. He brings a sword, his own Mosin-Nagant, and hopefully the salvation of all mankind in his bloodstream...
Reminds me of an Android app game that came out a few years ago called "Brainsss", also where you play the zombie trying to recruit more zombies. Any relation?

They’re stand-alone, but I have a couple novelettes on Amazon that are about survival.
Return is about a boy who goes into a city for supplies, but it turns into a fight for his life.
Red Christmas is about a boy in a pitch black mall trying to retrieve a star to finish a tribute to his deceased mother, but the plan goes awry.
Despite the low gravity of the Moon, I doubt any human alive is capable of kicking a zombie hard enough to achieve escape velocity. Earth is safe, once again, from your zombie-kicking antics.
That's not the Byrd.
> Return symbolizes the hope of making it back to the people who need you despite all odds.
> In desperate need of supplies, Elijah ventures into a city teeming with undead. But when his perilous journey goes awry and he’s backed into a corner, the only thing keeping Elijah fighting for his life is the promise he made to seven-year-old Lionel—to return.
ARC is Advanced Reader Copy. I give out free eBooks in exchange for a review come launch day/week.
Title: Return

I’d give a free digital copy in your preferred format, of course: ePUB, MOBI, or PDF.
It has been professionally edited and proofread and is awaiting its launch on preorder: Return.
I can also provide parts one and two so you can see if it’s something you’d be willing to ARC:

The Necrotic Apocalypse series is a LitRPG series (novels where characters exist with 'game-like' powers, such as stats, skills, etc) featuring a zombie apocalypse.
The main character accidentally started it, and now he's just trying to help humanity survive...and get some revenge.
One of my favorites. Highly recommend the audio.
:...a new rabies-like plague infects millions, America recalls its military forces from around the world to restore order. Lieutenant Todd Bowman got his unit through the horrors of combat in Iraq. Now he must lead his men across New York through a storm of violence to secure a research facility that may hold a cure. To succeed in this mission to help save what's left, the men of Second Platoon will face a terrifying battle of survival against the very people they have sworn to protect--people turned into a fearless, endless horde armed solely with tooth and nail..."

Absolutely agree.
I think the problem is that it's hard to right. Subtlety is hard.
Manuel Loreiro did a series. Here you go.
That's about as close as it comes.
I have a zombie outbreak novella available on Amazon. The Collapse.
I also have another zombie story coming out Oct. 31, and it’s on preorder. Return.
I’ll have another coming out in December, too. The Collapse’s sequel is still in the works, and Return will have a prequel eventually.
I’ll also recommend Everything Dies by TW Malpass, The Enemy by Charlie Higson, and Feed by Mira Grant.
Thanks for the shoutout! I also have this one. and another coming in October! (: super excited! I’ll most likely have another coming in December, too!
Working on many more!
Hey! I’m a zombie author and have a couple books on Amazon if you’re interested:
I also have another coming out in October!
They’re only books at the moment, but I have a zombie outbreak novella called The Collapse and a post-apocalyptic romance called Destination: Tomorrow. I have another book coming out in October.
There's a comic book about historic zombie outbreaks that ties in with World War Z: Recorded Attacks by Max Brooks.
I am very fond of Olivier Peru's and Nicolas Petrimaux's zombie comics Zombies and Zombie Nekrologien - English translation of the first run is: Shambles - A brief history of decay (see here).
I've got an Anti-Read zombie book for you. Aftermath of the Dead. It's so bad that it is almost kind of worth checking out just for curiosity sake on how bad it is. Seriously check out some reviews.
As with the first trailer, all clips were taken from royalty free websites, listed at the end of the video! I added the sound effects, music, and audio (none of the audio is original to the clips). The background song is You Are My Sunshine.
If anyone’s interested, I mentioned before on the first post, but the novella is still on sale for $.99 this week: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09BDFBN89

> What else could the dead rising be other than a sick joke?
> Karen Gallagher is a mother, a wife, and a scientist, and her past is catching up to her. As the world falls victim to a viral pandemic, Karen struggles to keep her daughter safe, forced to turn to the people who burned her all while harboring an awful secret.
> Modern science is meant to progress humanity, and scientists dare to cross boundaries seemingly impassable, but when Anne White's unethical and immoral experiment to cure the incurable goes awry and is shut down, Clinical Pathologist Frank Eastman secretly takes the project into his own hands, accidentally releasing a bioengineered chimera virus that not only spreads like wildfire and kills its victims, it reanimates them, turning them into voracious flesh-eating husks of their former selves.
> Karen Gallagher only wants to do right by her family, and when horrible news and videos air of crazed people attacking others, her husband convinces her they have nothing to worry about, but what else is she supposed to think when a man who was shot multiple times gets up, unfazed by his wounds, to attack the officers who gunned him down? Karen knows all too well there's more to this story, and her only goal now is to keep her seven-year-old daughter safe.
> Told from dual perspectives, The Collapse follows the how of a zombie outbreak, taking you on a heart-wrenching journey of familial love.
Only Book 0 is out at the moment, which is the story of the outbreak: THE COLLAPSE.
It’s sequel, however, goes more into what you’re talking about above as it’s set 10 years later, so society is rebuilding, and humans have a better understanding of what they’re dealing with, hence the knowledge of the two strains of viruses and the different infected either creates, along with how to handle them.
The sequel is coming out this summer.
There is a book by Jonathan Maberry called Zombie, CSU that covered this topic really well. The author interviewed law enforcement, military personnel, doctors, scientists, theologians... about what they would do if a zombie outbreak occurred. Fun book.

I think there’s 8 in the series. By far my favorite zombie book. It’s a mix of Days Gone and Call of Duty in book form. As a US Army Infantry Vet, I’d say this is how I’d see the military dealing with zombies.
This movie was made in conjunction with a 2D beat ‘em up game starring Jesus. It’s got the same name.
Thanks for the correction. Yeah I thought I had heard that someone guess I should check my info first before running my mouth.

Oh that seems like important information I should have definitely included in my post lol. Yikes. It should pop up first thing in Amazon Kindle when you search the name. Alternatively, here's the link.
If I remember correctly, The Last Stand: Union City has a sanity meter. Bear with me because I don't know if I'm remembering this right. I also think there's a sleep and food aspect, where if either goes low your screen would be all weird.
Or I could have just told you all the wrong facts because I haven't played the game in a while, so forgive me if I just did so.
here's the video. it was recently demonstrated on an episode of top gear (s17e01). it can drive through walls, and withstand 7 pounds of plastic explosive. also, not demonstrated in the episode is that the Marauder can go 4x4 or 6x6. as well as it is fairly agile - designed for urban environments it has a high turn ratio, and can even climb over other cars.
it is a very neat vehicle!.... but it has been reposted to death.
I can only assume that typtyphus was referring to the Marauder that was shown on Top Gears episode 01 of season 17. here is an active link to some clips of the marauder from the show. this video will hopefully stay active longer, as it is uploaded by the manufacturer.
Undead minions...my brother DJ Poostick is having a show in DeKalb, Illinois and we need your help to spread the word.

It’s Book 0 in my series, and Book 1 releases next year.
Came in to mention the Morningstar Strain series ಠ_ಠ
The Monster Trilogy by David Wellington. Sometimes the writing seems a little derpy (which I hope is intentional), but it's a pretty good, if somewhat sort, series.
Jonathan Maberry wrote another zombie book, Zombie CSI, which, while not necessarily fiction, is pretty boss.

Dead Nation (on ps3) The walking dead video game is coming out soon also :) Resident Evil 4/5 (excited about re6) Also try this online game: http://armorgames.com/play/12009/the-last-stand-union-city I've played through it like 10 times so if you need and help you can message me. It's pretty fun. Takes a good 3-4 hours to beat.
Here are a few more that aren't on the list I think
according to this it uses fuel cells. don't know how long it would last before needing replenishing. but odds are it'd be long enough. the only downside i can see to using an AT-AT is the fact that it is massive and loud. zombies would be able to see/hear the thing from miles away... and they would swarm. granted, they wouldn't be able to climb, or hinder you in any way. but they will be there when you try to leave the AT-AT to gather supplies.
edit: star wars wiki states that it uses a fusion drive
I want steel toe without the weight and athletic shoes with a little more protection. My favorite so far is the very affordable Carlie Boot made by Catepillar. I wear them almost 7 days a week, most comfortable steel toe boots I've found.

In my opinion, the absolute best zombie book is The Living Dead, an anthology of short stories with some amazing fresh takes on the genre. I've never found another zombie book I liked as much.
One of my favourite book series is The Undead by RR Haywood. It's set in England, and follows a night-shift retail manager through the beginnings of a zombie outbreak.
I know right! I just saw they have one without the I heart bwains here too!

I write the Planet Dead series it’s all about a mother fighting through the zombie apocalypse to reunite with her family. I have killer clowns, cults, serial killers, voodoo and ghosts through out the series. I think of it more as Z-Nation more than The Walking Dead
The two book series Xombies does a really good job on the how and why. I normally don't like fast very hard to kill zombies, but this series made them work.

They have the kit on amazon - Zombie Apocalypse Survival Kit
It's out of stock, of course, and no price listed.
Hey, Reddit, dropping a book I wrote. PDF is the top link, here’s the PDF formatted for Kindle: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/86979180/Jova%20PDF%20Kindle.pdf
A bit of synopsis: Leading the group of teens is sixteen year old Jova, a shy Christian girl who goes from reading the Bible to wielding a bow and fighting off zombies and cannibals to protect her best friend, Kiki, the girl who saved Jova from her abusive mother. The last boy in school is Clements who's busy building bows and spears in the old woodshop class.
It's also on Amazon for only 99 cents: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00HEOF8GQ
The story’s fairly dark but also really hopeful. Give the first chapter a shot! I’ll be answering any questions you guys and gals might have on this fine Christmas day.
Was it about simulating a zombie outbreak on a GPS map? There was a flash version on onemorelevel.com back in the day, but I know there's an android version just called "Zombie Outbreak Simulator." Uses a lot of the same sounds and graphics, so I'm pretty sure it's the same thing.

Kind of surprised I don't see any love for the monster island series by David Wellington. Great series and I've never read anything else quite like it. Amazon blurb & reviews
Another series that I REALLY liked the first book and maybe the second (if I’m remember correctly) is this series. Gave me some DBDA vibes for sure. Dude was holed up in his house, scared, didn’t know what exactly was going on, making very calculated decisions, etc.

I just found it. Strange, on my Amazon page there is no link for the ca book version so I had to go through the kindle link and then look for it that way. This link should work. I'm glad you brought this to my attention. I'll have to figure out what the problems is.
This is one of my favourites https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mammoth-Book-Zombie-Apocalypse-published/dp/B015VA7E84/ref=mp_s_a_1_10?keywords=mamoth+book+of+zombies&qid=1565400272&s=gateway&sr=8-10-spell
