FINAL UPDATE
It's live! https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sixtostart.zombiesrunclient
Thanks for all your patience, everyone - it's been a long, long 24 hours for our amazing team here, and we've had to put up with a lot of slowness and problems with Google's servers, but we're finally live.
Raise the Gates!
EARLY MORNING UPDATE EDIT:
I grabbed a couple of hours sleep while we waited for Google's servers to do their thing. Currently it's 8am here in the UK, so I'm expecting to hear from the devs very soon about where we're up to and I'm optimistic about being able to give good news when I pop back in.
END EDIT
Hi everyone - Six to Start team member here. To clarify where we're up to:
We've been battling Google's servers for most of the day now trying to get the update to play nice. We're not quite there yet, but we're still working hard after a very, very long day.
We haven't given you an update about the situation this afternoon / evening as we've felt about an hour away from saying "it's live" for much of the past six to eight hours, and we thought that'd be preferable to saying "soon" every five minutes. Right now, I'm still hoping to say "it's live" very, very soon (I'm waiting to go to bed!).
I'm sorry this has been so frustrating for you all, but we're hopeful to have real news very soon.
Thanks again for staying with us throughout all this and being patient! I'll let you know what I know as soon as I know it.
Not sure about the weight loss side. But one app I used to use gamifies running which was super fun.
Zombies,Run!

No idea what its like now but years ago (like 6 or 7) I used Zombies Run!! For something new to listen to on runs and rides. It has some great voice acting and is really a passive app in that you don't need to interact with the screen while exercising. Ingress was good depending on where you are (same company as pokemon go and existed long before pogo started). It has a decentish community around it and you can chat with your local faction to plan your map takeovers.
Zombies, run! might interest you. It simulates running away from zombies and has a surprising amount of depth to it. It works well with walking and jogging too, not just running.
Zombies, run! it's free!
Zombies, run! 5k training it costs $1.99
Zombies, Run! <- for iOS
Zombies, Run! <- for Android
Good tips. I'm going to follow one of the tips tonight, about varying your training, as I've downloaded the Zombies, Run! app for my phone, which apparently motivates your running by narrating a zombie apocalypse through your headphones. Should be interesting :)
I'm still very much an amateur, but here are some other tips I would suggest...
Looks like they have the original and a new 5k trainer now.
Ah yes, Zombies Run!
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sixtostart.zombiesrunclient
Never personally tried it though, but I do wanna give it a look. Not exactly sure if I'd pay those amounts to get full access
Not sure if this would appeal to you, but i enjoy using Zombies, Run! It has a fitness tracker integrated as well as applying fun "minigames" and such.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sixtostart.zombiesrunclient&hl=en
You're a legacy user. You need to download and keep both apps, but only use the newer version.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sixtostart.zombiesrunclient
Login with your old info and you should have access to everything except the newest season 4 content for free.
> Wouldn't it be really cool if there was a game that gave you in game rewards for IRL achievements? Like maybe it could connect to a Garmin/fitbit type device so if you do 10,000 steps or some sort of sport you get a weapon upgrade card etc.
There's something like that for interval training for jogging; Zombies, Run!
Been a while since I tried it, but it was a pretty neat combination of audiobook and a little base management game on your phone.
It makes you sprint out of nowhere and if you ain't sprinting fast enough the zombies "get you" and you lose items you collected on that run. Can be quite a bit stressful, so it didn't really work for me, but maybe somebody else enjoys the extra "pump" during their runs.
I remember playing some zombie games that used your GPS to determine if they got you. Was fun back in the day.
Edit: this isn't the game but it's similar. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sixtostart.zombiesrunclient
If it once was an exclusive, I'm happy to say it's not anymore!
I'll toss my support for the app as well. Was great when I was stuck inside on the elliptical because Minnesota winters are cold as hell!
Great! You might also want to visit /r/bodyweightfitness and try to do plenty of cardio. This app is great too: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sixtostart.zombiesrunclient&hl=sl . If you need any help make sure to PM me. Oh and i guarantee that you will feel better but unknowingly so. I guarantee that you will notice a difference! :D
Recently started doing 5km jogging sessions trough the woods to lose some weight and just get out of the house for a while. I keep PoGo running in my Pocket while listening to music and playing Zombies Run. It's pretty cool in case somebody's interested: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sixtostart.zombiesrunclient
It's like an interactive podcast story.
Zombies, Run is a fun app if you like a little undead motivation.
I also like Endomondo for keeping track of HR, time, and distance.
> I wonder how other app developers, if they would have access to Google Map features. Or only official Google Devs get access.
There's a few games that do similar things, like this.
I also found this from a $2 bundle on Bundle Stars, but it looks like it could use some polish.
It also kinda reminds me of Streets of Sim City for some reason.
It's for running, but you can do it on a bike. You put on headphones and listen to a story. Sometimes ull come across zombies and have to go faster.
You can do missions where you pick up Supplies, and you bring them back to your base and upgrade your base. Find more survivors. Etc.
I also did a lot of cycling when I played Ingress. I still think it is astronomically better than Pokémon GO.

A couple tips
Don't start running off the bat,
Just find a good path and walk and speed walk,
Make sure you are not bored,
I highly recommend making yourself a Spotify playlist or find a good podcast you can listen to so you don't get bored,
If jogging becomes boring you will try to avoid it,
I also recommend this app its amazing!
It's called Zombies run,
Apple:
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/zombies-run/id503519713
Android:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sixtostart.zombiesrunclient
This app is amazing it has a story you follow through and it progresses depending on the distance you move,
Each time you do a story chapter you get "supplies" which you can use to upgrade your base giving you a sense of reward,
It also tracks your time and distance covered evey run,
You can play the Spotify playlist or podcast you want to listen to and then start a chapter/episode,
The app will play your music and pause it for you every time a character in the story says something its great,
There is also a feature called "horde mode"
You can enable it every chapter or run you do,
Basically at random time you will get a audio cue telling you there is a horde chasing you,
You will then have to run fast to avoid the horde,
Its a great feature which encourages you to pick up your pace if you move slowly,
I'm not even sponsored by them I just really recommend you download that app,
Here is a link to the Google play store (also available for iphone) so you can learn more about it (its actually Zombies, Run!)
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sixtostart.zombiesrunclient
The Zombies, Run! app offers a fun change of pace! Just a heads up to watch how much data it uses if you do try it out tho https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sixtostart.zombiesrunclient
Not exactly the same but IIRC among other features Zombies, Run! lets you collect supplies as you run which lets you upgrade your survivor base. Lots of cool other features too.
It’s a running app that, using your own playlist as a backdrop, turns it into a “War of the Worlds”-style audio drama narrative experience. It’s set post-zombie apocalypse. You’re a supply runner for a local town and get guided by the radio announcer as you do various missions, occasionally being chased by zombies (essentially it fictionalizes interval training). Good voice cast and sound effects, story written by a novelist, good running stat tracking, integrates with Apple Health, etc. I funded it when it was a Kickstarter- it’s really taken off since then and now it has virtual 5k and 10k races, at-home workout plans, and more, also including non-zombie stuff if that’s not your bag (there’s a dinosaur-themed adventure, one about ancient British history, one about running on Mars, one about catching Jack the Ripper, etc).
https://apps.apple.com/us/app/zombies-run/id503519713
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sixtostart.zombiesrunclient
They also have a separate 5k app which is their version of C25K.
I don’t know if its worldview is right, but Zombies, Run! is an exergame with many series of audio plays. Now there’s a part of the main story called The Home Front, in which a zombie horde has trapped many people inside. (I also play regular episodes while walking indoors.)
The Walk by the same creators is another exergame with an audio story, but I don’t know much about it.
I don't have any experience with these apps but maybe it's what your looking for? I've downloaded them but never got started
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sixtostart.zombiesrunclient
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.habitrpg.android.habitica
If you have money to spare then I can recommend that you get a VR headset (new or used) and buy Beat Saber. It will be the most fun you've ever had "working out".
Woops, two different games. It's this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sixtostart.zombiesrunclient&hl=en
Have you heard about "Zombies, run!"? I feel like it might make a difference for your running. Give it a try, it's awesome!
Here is the link in the Google Play store. Basically it's a zombie adventure story told in the 1st person, like you're one of the characters. You run missions for supplies, or to rescue people, or to find information that could potentially stop the zombie apocalypse. The story is really interesting, and it's easy to get so caught up in that that I don't realize that I'm passing my house for the 3rd time...
Everyone around here uses the loseit or MyFitnessPal apps for that sorta thing. You can also find TDEE calculators online (total daily energy expenditure). Zombie run is free https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sixtostart.zombiesrunclient&hl=en
hows the game? wanted to buy it two or three years ago, never came around to, though.
>So here I am, a Runner for Abel Township. Oh, I know I'm not the fastest Runner here, or the strongest. I'm not one of Sam's elites to be sent on special missions and daring rescues. I'm just a Runner.
>No, I'm more than that. I survived the world going mad. I survived the zombie apocalypse. I outran the grey horde that consumed so many others.
Zombies! Run confirmed
Playstore bot please
If you need something to get you outside still, give Zombies, Run! a try. iPhone link
I know it's not the same, but it's an excuse to stay active.
I don't really listen to music while running. The silence helps me clear my mind. I have been waiting until I can run a little longer (only just started and can't make it more than 10 minutes before having to rest) to try out Zombies, Run!
There's some interactive games you can play like Zombies, Run! that encourage exercise but still feel like you're playing a game. Might be a fun alternative.
I'm getting a new phone this week, so I need to try to remember how the remindme bot works...
RemindMe! 3 weeks "Zombies! Run! app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sixtostart.zombiesrunclient&hl=en "
On the subject of health/fitness, nothing was more motivating to get me off my ass than Zombies, Run. It's free now too.
Reminds me a bit of Rick's (from Rick and Morty, god I love that show) philosophy to deal with existentialism "don't think about it". I think we all feel this way at some point or another, some of us more than others but we can get past it by having a constant state of improving little by little and always have something to look forward to. I also really like to contemplate how amazing even being alive is to begin with. That we're naturally occurring self-replicating bio-mechanical beings on a huge ball of dirt spinning through space. There's so much to see, do and consider about the nature of life.
I think you have the right idea overall to improve health. Set small achievable goals and work toward them and build toward overall life goals. If you're a bit down I'd suggest two thing. First, if you get a bit bored walking, maybe look to gameify it a bit with Zombies, Run! or Pokemon Go. Second, I find I'm happier if I have regular interaction with people that don't suck. Either good friends or part of some local group that shares local interests. Something like Meetup can help with that. Lastly if you're more than a little "in a dark place" emotionally, I'd suggest talking with a concealer to worth through whatever is getting you down. Also there's some amazing science behind micro-dosing on psychedelics and it's affect on your mood and outlook on life. Worth googling if it'll help.
Anyhow, good luck; life is frikken crazy for everyone but definitely full of worthwhile experiences.
Apparently it's even free right now on Google Play.

Well while you ladies are working on your fitness may I recommend my favorite running app Zombies, Run!
it comes in three flavors
Zombies Run (The Original) - in which you are Runner 5 and your runs collect food and supplies for your survival camp. Plus heavy story in your ears while you run.
Zombies, Run! 5k Training - Same thing but with 5K training.
The Walk - for those who want zombie action in their walk.
I used to do the original flavor and it's a lot of fun. If i wasn't at work 12 hours a day and had time to exercise I'd probably start it up again. I only got about half way through my season.
There are some, one interesting could be this one? https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sixtostart.zombiesrunclient
Never played it but this looks fun: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sixtostart.zombiesrunclient
Might wanna try /r/androidgaming too
"Zombies, Run" ...I tried it when I tried running... I couldn't get into it ... but I also hate running.
Essaie peut-être une app comme Zombies Run
That reminds me, there is some game where you run from zombies. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sixtostart.zombiesrunclient
Yes. Android
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sixtostart.zombiesrunclient
I never tried it since you must wear headphones. You get "chased" by zombies and collect supplies to build your base.
Title made me think you were using the Zombies! Run! app.
>Get ready for the run of your life. Join 2 million runners on an epic adventure!

Deym, tried Zombie, Run last night. As a Walking Dead fan, I enjoyed this one.
Oh, and for anyone who is interested in running "Zombies, Run!" is a really good motivator

Zombies, Run! is a running game.
Well there is Zombies, run! .
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sixtostart.zombiesrunclient saw it some time ago, can't really recommend it since I'm not active at all, but it seemed quite interesting
This is a fun running game: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sixtostart.zombiesrunclient&hl=en
I've got a friend who loves Zombies, Run! but I'll admit I've never tried it myself.
Check the app "zombies, run" out, you'll never run without story content again :-) https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.sixtostart.zombiesrunclient
Sure, here's the link. They have a 5k version and then a full blown running app version. Not free, mind you, but worth it.
It is free on Android.
